  • reading this, Hiver started mid last year - with a 1% cashback. Wonder when this was increased to the current rate and given it’s now been posted on OzBargain, how long this CB rate will last?

Surely it won’t be 5% for long?

    • +3

Changed from 1% to 5% on the 22nd of February according to their Facebook page

    • +2

Might go back down after this post haha.

      • Haha can just imagine them logging in tomorrow morning

      • Or when people try and argue their Kayo and Binge subscriptions are groceries… :P

  • Signed up - but how do I enable Google Pay?

    • You have to wait til physical card delivered… :(

  • This offer may be withdrawn or changed without notice.

It is 5% now, but they might downsize it to 1% later if too many people jumps onboard.

  • +1

Not another app only thing. What the matter with these people? Or me?

  • +1

Do they have any referral system?

  • Google pay supported?
edit: Ah yep - scrolled past it.

  • Are students with TAFE in vic eligible?

  • Joint accounts allowed?

    • No, according to the FAQ they are not at the moment.

  • I ticked the essential worker box on signing up and have successfully logged in. Is there a way to check that cashback will apply to me now?

    • +1

You have to wait until the next month. This bank isn't like HSBC where you get to see the cashback instantly.

  • Does anyone know if shopping gift cards through woolie mobile/insurance website is eligible for the cashback? https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/

    • I’m fairly sure the gift card portal you access via Woolworths Mobile is hosted at https://giftcards.woolworths.com.au. If so, it should be eligible for cashback through this promotion.

The main reason I say should is that the last time I checked, the Woolworths Group gift card portal had an MCC of 5411 (which is eligible for this promotion), but there is always a chance Woolworths Group changed the MCC since I last checked.

      • +1

        will give it a test

      • how did you check the MCC?

        • When the transaction has settled, click on it and it will show the MCC in words.

  • Trying to find places that fall into the right categories will drive me nuts ahaha - Up bank is bad at it atm

  • Assuming ALDI falls under the 5411 MCC which I expect it should, has anyone seen whether the payments need to be made via credit/tap n pay or do we have an idea of them tracking via Savings payment at ALDI to avoid the payment surcharge for credit/tap?

    • +1

Can't use EFTPOS. So, you have to eat that 0.5% surcharge for the 5% cashback.

    • Confirmed eftpos works, so can put it through as savings.

  • +1

Would Strata and council be considered as bills? Or only things like water and electricity?

    • bump
      would also like to know

    • Strata and council will be unlikely to work. You could try a small amount, but I'd say 99.99% it won't work, some have tried and none have worked so far. It's only "Utilities" or "Telecommunication Services"

  • How would one go about transferring funds from a non-Hiver account directly to the SAVER account using BSB & Account Number?

I don't think it can be done without setting up a PayID.

    • Did you read your welcome email?

Your BSB and account number are shown in there.

      • -1

Yes, of course I saw the welcome email. Your account number = member number.

Did you actually notice that there is a letter within the account numbers for EVERYDAY and SAVER? Otherwise, they both have the same prefix which is the member number.

        • Did you actually notice that there is a letter within the account numbers for EVERYDAY and SAVER?

Not in the welcome email, there isn't.

          • +1

@YesPleaseThankYou: There are two accounts, but only one account number in the email. If you use the account number in the email it goes to the transaction account. They want to know if they can transfer directly from an external account to the savings account.

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: If you go into the account details screen of the app or internet banking (browser) there is an account ref of 9 digits. Use this for transfer into Hiver rather than the digits before the S (which are actually your member number)

      • If you go into the account details screen of the app or internet banking (browser) there is an account ref of 9 digits. Use this for transfer into Hiver rather than the digits before the S (which are actually your member number)

        • There is no 9 digit "account ref" that I can see. The digits before the S = member number are the account number of the Everyday Account. As Doctor Calculon wrote the only way to directly transfer to the Saver account is to link your PayID to it.

          • @Stingo: Was blind. Now I see! Have you used account ref instead of the member number for transfers into the Saver account?

    • +1

In the app settings you can change the default payment account. Looks like you can choose the savings account instead of the transaction account.

      • Yes, I saw that afterwards.
So, It is a single account, but internally it is setup as two sub-accounts (which are not directly accessible outside).

      • Funny thing I noticed. They let you set a nickname for the everyday account but not the saver account.

    • If you go into the account details screen of the app or internet banking (browser) there is an account ref of 9 digits. Use this for transfer into Hiver rather than the digits before the S (which are actually your member number)

  • Hmmm I didnt get the access code and I can't seem to log in after signing up. need to contact support ahhhh

EDIT nevermind, it took a while to come.

Anyone figure out how to add to google pay as it says "Start transacting instantly" - implying you dont have to wait for the physical card to arrive? Didn't find the option within the app

    • There is a sentence somewhere can't remember if it is in the email or on the site when you join that says that initially you will need to wait for the physical card to start transacting.

Getting Started -> "Once my account is opened, can I start transacting immediately?"

*During the early days of Hiver, you will need to wait for your physical card to arrive before you can start transacting with your card. Don't worry, it only takes up to 7 days.

You will still be able to make OSKO payments, make EFT & BPAY transfers as well as setting up direct debits from day 1.*

  • Has anyone tried Sniip to see if the cashback works for the 'bill payment'?

    • Considering Sniip's MCC is reportedly 7399, I wouldn't expect any cashback from Sniip payments, but it is always worth a shot.

I'd assume Beem It would be the same too.

      • I saw that, but I'll give it a try and report back

  • Card received in post today, metro melb

    • to get it to manage PIN stage I had to close app and re open
    • to activate on Google Pay I am prompted to call bank
    • edit: I sent them a message through app and they activated Google Pay for me

      • Thanks, I received card in the mail today and wanting to set up Google pay which prompted me to call bank (after hours). Have sent a message on app :)

  • +1

For those looking to add to Google Pay, you will be prompted to call their 1800 as verification method. Just send them a message via their app messaging instead, verified in no time.

    • I did that, they replied: I have to choose verification by SMS or email, when there's no such option :(. Their system is rather poorly built compared to other online bank, tbh

      • +1

I sent them this message :

Hi, I'm trying to add my Hiver debit card to Google Pay. The only option given to proceed with verification is to dial the 1800 number. I dialed the number and none of the options corresponds to this and I wasn't able to speak to anyone about it. Can you assist with this? Thank you.

And the reply within 30 minutes was :

        Thank you for patiently waiting.
Your card is now verified to Google pay.

Perhaps it depends on who is on the other side of the messages.

The 1800 options were so limited, and the one I selected basically had a recorded voice telling me where to find the FAQs for answers, and then press something to hear it again, or press something to return to main menu. Should have a stay connected if you want to speak to someone. Not very helpful.

        • True. I sent a 2nd msg explaining that there’s no email/sms verification option. Only 1800 number to call but no options. Just checked, it’s activated now

        • lol the lady i asked about this to on the chat said the phone number doesnt actually have any option to speak to someone.
          basically just an expensive decoration…

  • Will I get 5% cashback if I pay car registration bill with this? HSBC doesn't allow government organization payments for 2% cashback

  • Their support is meant to be open until 7, but looks like they were closed by 6:30. Don't think anyone else will be able to add their card to Google Pay until Monday. The only thing they have going for them is the 5%, definitely wouldn't stay if it were no longer offered.

    • definitely wouldn't stay if it were no longer offered

Haha! I think we will all go back to HSBC then.

I don't think Costco, or Officeworks is covered.

    • Or I'm an idiot. I work only weekdays. I knew I was working the following day. Still somehow had it in my head that it was Friday. Not much of one, but in my defence, I am on holidays after today.

      • Sometimes it feels like a Friday whatever day it actually is. Enjoy your holidays without the fear of Mondays!

  • Does Paypal pass through the original MCC codes? Is that true for Pay in 4 as well?

  • Does Sydney Water count as a "Utility" MCC? nothing was found on their website.

    • it should, as it is a utility

  • +1

Looks like when you perform a transaction, if you go to the details of the transaction on the Hiver app you can see what Merchant Code it was classified under.

I recharge my Launtel Account and it was classified as "Telecommunication Services".

So, if in doubt, do a test small value transaction and see how it classifies.

    -
Reamped Energy also doesn't accept the BSB of 812 812 - maybe it's too new?

    • +7

Confirmed Woolworths gift card website is grocery stores, supermarkets.. Bought with Student Edge discount.

      Added both to forum post,
trying to start a list of merchants where we can get casback.

      • Wondering though that because MCC is stated as 3885 and not 5411 as stated in Hiver T&C's, will cashback still be received?

        • +1

That's not the MCC. Not sure what it is, but all of my Visa transactions have the Acquirer as 3885 and there's a 10 digit number for the eftpos ones. They don't list the actual code, just the category.

          • @Miss B: No worries thank you didn't know that 😊

Fingers crossed we all get our cashback at the start of next month

    • Have you managed to get reamped to accept it yet?

      • Yep, worked via credit card. I had a brainfart moment and forgot the BSB/direct debit from bank account option had nothing to do with Visa :)

  • +2

Anyone else having trouble signing up, with ID not verified? I tried tonight and didn't get verified, and my mate independently had the same problem.

    • +1

      same here

      • Same here. Maybe cos the FAQ says must be Aust citizens to join.

        • I am Australian citizen, still no go

    • +1

      same

  • +10

I've set up a forum post so we can track where you can get cashhback with Hiver. Will just have to see whether it goes anywhere.

  • Do ATO Payments attract the 5% rebate?

    • Interested to know as wel

    • Why would they? They are not in Hiver's stated categories.

  • +1

I'm a bit annoyed. I signed up and now it is only 1% and max $50.

    1. Hiver Members will earn 1% cash back for every dollar spent (less refunds and excluding cash advances, cash-like transactions, interest charges, fees, credit or debit adjustments) on the following categories: Grocery purchases (classified by Visa's 'Merchant Category Code' as 'grocery stores and supermarkets' MCC 5411), Public transport (classified by Visa's 'Merchant Category Code' as 'commuter transport and ferries' - MCC 4111; 'passenger railways' - MCC 4112; 'bus lines' - MCC 4131) up to a maximum of $50 per calendar year. Cash back will be deposited into the Members Everyday account in the first five days of a new month. This offer may be withdrawn or changed without notice.
    • …it still says 5%/$250 at point 6 at the bottom of https://hiver.bank/products/everyday/ ?

    • I got this email too about the 1%

      • Was it in your signup email or a separate email after you signed up a few days ago? And did you qualify as an essential worker/graduate/etc?

        • I signed up the same day this deal was posted and got the email today and qualified as a graduate.
The email today was “ Hi xxx get more from the Hive with these simple steps…”

          • @FujiFruit: Wow, I missed that at the bottom of the welcome email. I can confirm the same text was on the bottom of mine. I wonder if it's an old template they are using?

Will flick them a message to confirm.

            • -1

              @bdl:

Wow, I missed that at the bottom of the welcome email

Footnote #6 is not in the welcome email.

It is in the email that was received around 3PM today, with subject: "Hi XYZ, get more from the Hive with these simple steps…"

I guess I am sticking with HSBC for now.

    • +3

I messaged them and they confirmed it was 5%

      • Be good to know how much longer it will last. I suspect they have a customer aquisition target.

  • So the 5% cash back isn’t sustainable after all.

I thought my earlier comments will come true, but not this fast.

    • +3

Maybe it was sustainable before it was posted to Ozbargain haha.

      • Yup yup yup! The hive has been OzBargained. :-(

  • Before we speculate from the email, we should wait for their reply message to confirm whether it has changed to 1% because their website stills state 5%. Either they used an old email template or they had reached a cap of customers earning the 5%. For those who have made transactions, can check on the app what cashback they got.

    • Cant check because cashbacks are not itemised, they just give you all your cashback in one go… which is not really helpful.

Got my cash back from last month, still 5%.

  • +1

I followed up with them on Facebook and confirmed it’s still 5%:

Hi x, thanks for contacting us. Hiver members will earn 5% cash back for every dollar spent (less refunds and excluding cash advances, cash withdrawals, other cash-related transactions, interest charges, fees, credit or debit adjustments) on certain categories up to a maximum of $250 per calendar year. This offer may be withdrawn or changed without notice. To find out more about our cash back promotion, please visit our website hiver.bank and check out our FAQs. Thanks again! -BN

    Followed up by this comment:

Hi x, are you able to send me a screenshot of the welcome message that mentioned the 1%? I can follow up with the team to get that corrected. -Tom

  • Anyone know if council rates payments are eligible for 5%? I cant find anywhere that says what MCC the payments will fall under.
