    • Best to put a small payment towards your rates and then see how it's classified a few days after when it clears

    • someone else said it prob doesn't as it will come up as govt payment…and it isn't a utility….only electricity, water and gas are utilities

  • Anyone in Perth received the card yet? Still haven't received mine and it's been a week and a half.

I can also see this offer going tits-up: the other day I saw a mob called Bano Financial. Up to 1.8% cashback. Nowhere on their website does it state what cashback applies to. Message their Instagram support and message in Chinese characters comes back. Apparently they're registered with the Aussie financial authorities. Looks dodgy

    • +1

      Yep, got mine today.

      • Nice, damn still nothing for me :+

        • +1

In Perth. Australia Post generally holds all your post and then delivery it all at one time.

    • +1

Got mine a week ago. Came after a couple of days. Activated straight away and tried to add to Apple Pay. Said it needed to be activated via a phone number. I waited a day and checked and it was activated on Apple Pay itself.

  • Unable to verify after added to Google Pay so i sent them a message. I've mentioned specific that I'm adding to Google Pay.

Got a message later from them said "successful add to your Apple Pay" !!!!!

Well, at least now the card is activated in GPay

    • Your lucky. I got told to wait 24 hrs to give the systems time to talk to each other!

  • +4

I do hope they have some method of keeping this sustainable, even if it means adding a few “hoops”. I’d be happy to jump hoops for 5%. Rather not see it go down to 1%. I’d close the account if it went that low.

  • This looks interesting. Signing up tomorrow. Can park HSBC for now.

  • +1

Great. Received card and used online for Woolworths Gift Cards and at Aldi. Really handy.

    • did you tap or eftpos - i wonder if it makes a difference?

      • Unlike HSBC, it should not make a difference as long as the merchant's MCC is on the list of eligible MCCs.

      • I tried Eftpos but kept getting a pin error as I was using the pin that I set up to access the app. This was my first time using the card. Then I tried tapping the card and it went through but got charged the 0.05% surcharge.
Later I found that you can set a pin for the card in the app. I will try Eftpos again next time.

      • +1

I shopped at ALDI recently with the card and just inserted and selected SAV. Used the card pin I had set in the app but I'll have to wait until end of the month to find out if it tracks. From my reading SAV accounts go through EFTPOS not Visa so I'm guessing it won't pay out. Does mean that you'll have to eat the CC fee at ALDI but still a 4.95% discount at ALDI which is better than nothing.

  • I don't see that Hiver Bank should have an issue with the purchase of Woolworths Gift Cards — the final spend from those gift cards will mostly be for groceries.

    • I stupidly purchased a Coles GC through Union Shopper but doubt that it will be rebated as the description is The Ambassador Card. The transaction is currently pending so I will check when it clears but not likely.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if there is a monthly cap in place for the rebate/cashback, or is it simply a $250 annual limit?

    • If there was a monthly cap it would be mentioned in the terms.

      • I couldn't find anything, but there was some discussion about monthly spending targets earlier in the thread. No reply from that poster.

I've sent an email to Hive to query it, otherwise technically you could collect your full $250 rebate in the first week/month if you had a massive spending blitz.

        • +1

If there was a limitation, it would be published.

If they don't pay up, lodge complaint.

  • Is the cashback only applied to Visa transactions? when I insert the card at WW I only see Saving option.

    • +1

      Visa transactions only.

As an aside, why do people still insert their cards?

      • Sometimes EFTPOS terminals will give you errors if you try to use contactless and will force you to swipe or insert the card. This happens all the time whenever I try to use contactless on my credit cards at Ampol, and it also happened to me a couple of weeks ago at Woolworths.

Another explanation is that a lot of businesses still haven’t opted into Least Cost Routing (LCR). I prefer to use EFTPOS Savings/Cheque for debit card transactions in Australia, because:

        • Money is either credited to or debited from an account instantly, whereas it can take a number of business days for funds to be credited or debited if I use Visa or Mastercard.

        • You can avoid the Visa/Mastercard surcharge levied at some businesses (e.g. ALDI).

        • It may mean cheaper payment processing costs for some businesses.

Some people also have two separate savings and cheque accounts that can be accessed by the same debit card, so you’ll need to actually insert or swipe the card on the EFTPOS terminal and specify the account from which you want to credit or debit. One of my older relatives has this setup, and they got a little cranky with me when I selected savings instead of cheque when I was showing them how to get cash out at Woolworths…

        • Sometimes EFTPOS terminals will give you errors if you try to use contactless and will force you to swipe or insert the card.

Correct me if I am wrong, if you go through EFTPOS then there will be no cashback the next month, even if the transaction was eligible.

This also means I can't pay my utilities and internet bills via BPay or bank direct debit, and cop the surcharge for paying using my Hiver card.

Reading: https://hiver.bank/products/everyday/ >> Footnote (6): There are references to Visa's MCC, however there is no explicit instruction that you must use your card's credit / debit facility.

          WM, any thoughts on this?

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: I think nobody can confirm until receiving cashback next month.

But they have mentioned about MCC which only available through Visa/MC network though.

          • @DoctorCalculon: My guess (and it is a guess) is that you will not earn cashback when you use the EFTPOS network, because the interchange fees for EFTPOS transactions are generally lower than Visa debit transactions. Hiver would really want you to use the Visa network, as it would be much harder to justify the 5% cashback offer if a lot of people were using the EFTPOS network (and consequently lowering Hiver’s revenue).

Btw, MCCs are also used on the EFTPOS network, but Hiver would be going off the Visa MCCs, as Visa is the network that enables credit transactions on Hiver’s debit cards. (Think about it, if MCCs were not available on the EFTPOS network, The Restaurant Card wouldn’t work at all.)

            • +1

@WookieMonster: I don't see why not. EFTPOS transaction also has merchant code.

Hiver is showing Merchant code of 628000 and Category is Grocery Stores and Supermarket for eftpos transaction at WW.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: I can now confirm eftpos transaction is eligible for the cashback.

  • +1

Added my card to GPay via the add a card option in the app. Was given the choice to verify the card via SMS or email and successfully verified by SMS. Not sure if this is a new development from Hiver or other people have been trying to add to GPay in a different way.

    • I had to send them an in app message cos mine was telling me to call the 1800 number. Sent them message and they said by the morning it should be fixed.

Checked this morning and it gave me the option of texting or emailing instead

    • did you add after receiving physical card or before? I cant see option to

      • +1

I received the physical card and then scanned it into the GPay app. You have to wait for the card to be delivered.

  • There are references to overdrawn account fees here: https://hiver.bank/products/everyday/

I can't see in the app how you can switch off the overdraw facility, assuming this is switched on by default.

  • Would local council rates fall under: 'Utilities' - MCC 4900?

Confirmed that Myki recharge hits the right MCC

  • is there a way to check a merchants MCC before you make a transaction?

    • Haha! I asked the exact same question a long time ago for a Revolut promotion.

There definitely is one, but just not exposed publicly, AFAIK.

  • +1

I am a member of teachers mutual bank and tried my luck signing up, but received this email one day after - despite them posting me a debit card. Damn- don’t understand why that makes people ineligible for this :(

“Thanks for your interest in joining Hiver.

It looks like you’re already an existing member of one of TMBLs industry banks Teachers Mutual Bank. At the moment, if you’re an existing member of a TMBL industry bank you’re unable to also become a member of Hiver.

Apologies if this was not made clear enough during the application process.

At this time we have closed your application.“

And they’ve completely closed my account!

    • I got the same message. All you need to do is to close your existing TMBL membership and get a new one with Hiver. You also got a bonus of $10 to offset the troubles. I don't understand what is their rationale behind this.

      • You also got a bonus of $10 to offset the troubles

        Not a cash bonus.
That $10 is immediately invested into shares under your name.

        • It is. When you terminate your membership you got that $10 back as cash, transferred to your nominated account. When you sign up again, you get another $10 for free.

  • +6

I contacted Hiver bank (their in-app support) regarding the cashback and they confirmed that Eftpos (selecting Savings not just Credit) is supported too for cashback, as long as the transaction fits into one of the eligible merchant categories.

So this will be helpful Aldi so you don't have to pay the CC surcharge and you still get the cashback.

By the way, in Apply Pay, you can select for the transaction to go through SAV instead of the Visa network.

  • Does this work for restaurants and such? or ONLY on the small list Hiver specify..?

    • +1

You mean for the cashback? Im sure itll only be for the categories listed

But of course you can use the card for everything else for no extra benefit

      • +1

        Ta, answers my question

        5% for the categories listed
2% with hsbc for everything else

  • Anyone know how to contact them? Can't log into the app to message. Tried their online form and it has been a week with no response. Tried calling and the IVR disconnects and tells me to email/send message via app.

    • No, but if you like, I can send them an in app message telling them to contact you about your account. No guarantee it will work and I'd probably need an account number or phone number or something. But send me a message if you want me to do it.

      • +1

I sent a question to their Support Team on 13 May (no answer yet), in chat I was given this as the email address: [email protected]

The email didn't bounce back, so the address appear to be valid despite its unusual configuration.

      • Thanks for the suggestion! I've gotten a family member to message in-app for me to get them to contact me (hopefully) and I've also sent an email to [email protected] and [email protected] so hoping to hear back soon.

Shame they don't have phone support at all as they try to be all digital.

    • They were pretty responsive on Facebook messenger when I messaged them earlier. It’s a shame they don’t have phone support.

  • cannot pass id check, it is so annoying

    • Are you a bot?

  • Does anyone know if you can deposit funds at a branch or Australia post into your Hiver account?

    • +1

Why would anyone want to do that when you can do that from home?

      • Unless, of course, you have loaded of cash or cheques.

    • +1

No. They are a digital bank.

  • +1

Hmm having trouble verifying my ID, on my drivers license are two middle initials. I've tried signing up with no middle name and full middle names (which usually works) the OCR also isn't working so maybe it's just a tech issue.

Was anyone able to sign up after contacting them via email?

    • +1

Try putting your full middle name in the section where it asks if you’re known by any other name.. it worked for me after a while

      • So: Mikey Smith in the first ID and then Mikey Adam Chris Smith in the other name?

        • I just tried this with my passport, but still unsuccessful

    • I tried my passport instead of driver's license and that worked

    • I'm having the same issue. I also tried online chat, they could not help, so now tried online form and got nothing, not even acknowledgement of the form to my email. Pretty poor first impression!

      • Have you tried a passport? Only useful if you have one.

        • +1

          Thanks sween, passport worked.

  • +2

Hiver app seems to be not working?

    • +2

Uh-oh. There appears to be a slight problem!!!

  • I just noticed an 'Interest Debit' entry Tuesday 31/05 for 7c. Not sure why as my account has definitely had more money in it than I've spent. The account balance is 7c less than it should be, so they've definitely charged me 7c, bit given me 7c interest. I've sent them a message via the app, I'll see what the response is

    • +1

Hiver refunded the interest charge and replied to my message saying it has been refunded but didn't say why there had been a charge in the first place.

  • +1

I just bought 10x$50 cards from the recent Woolworths TCN seal with my Hiver card (gotta double and triple stack where you can) and then when I went to buy another couple my Hiver card was declined. There are definitely funds available so not sure what happened there. Anyone been able to spend more than $500 on their Hiver card in a single hit? Wonder if this was a "fraud prevention" situation.

    • +1

Yes, give them a call and they will remove the block
same to me when I was trying to pay 1K to telstra :D

  • Trying to add a new payee, but I'm not receiving the verification text. Anyone else having this problem?

    • Edit: They've fixed it.

  • +2

Response correlation does not match Request.

Has anyone else had this error on their app? I've lost all functionality and it was fine just earlier this morning.

  • +1

yes i had it , just don't use the account for a hour or so and it will go back to normal.

  • +1

Anyone received their rebates yet for activity in May? Hoping to get full confirmation from someone, especially, that Woolworths GCs attract the rebate. Thanks.

    • +1

Cash back will be deposited into the member’s Everyday account in the first five days of a new month.

Should be within the next couple of days.

    • +2

The Woolworths gift card site is eligible if that's what you mean. Got my cashback for it.

  • Does payment need to be physically with tap n pay, insertion or nfc apple/google pay only? what about online payments?

    • +2

Mode of payment is irrelevant - it is the MCC that matters.

      • Thanks fella

  • does direct debit of utility bills and strata count?

    • No. The MCC value will be missing or may be different?

You can test it yourself, and tell us.

    • DD from the Visa should be fine for utility bills (except water seems to be touch and go, some are "government services", others come up as utilities), but strata almost certainly won't be under one of the eligible categories.

  • +6

Got first cashback today, everything checks out and rate was 5%

  • +4

Cash back received - unlike HSBC they don't do it per transaction but rather aggregate it into a lump sum.

    • yeah, very hard to know which one actually got cashback if we have many transactions. I presumed the one today is for May only though?

  • +5

Got my $250 cashback from the 5k in Apple Gift Cards from Woolies, so I’m done until next calendar year

    • +1

Now keep those reward points safe.

      • Those scammers sure like the Everyday Rewards program. Mind you, the kids go through those points almost as fast as OzBargainers kill a freebie

  • +4

I can confirm that you do get cashback on EFTPOS transaction i.e Saving for those shop in the eligible list. You don't have to use Visa transaction for the cashback.

    • +2

Nice work. That will make our ALDI shoppers 0.5% happier (full 5% vs 4.5)

  • So if u made a purchase on 30 May and it stops pending 1st June, do u get the cash back in May or June ?
