Resharing after 6 months for those unaware of the workaround to get YouTube Premium at a fraction of the normal price (with credit to HiDave for the original find). It's also around $0.27 cheaper per month now. Personally been using this for over 2 years and works flawlessly with 28 Degrees MasterCard (no fees). Stay safe, and enjoy :)

Very straightforward process:

  1. Use a VPN to connect to an Argentinian server (required only for registration).
  2. Open an incognito browser window.
  3. Sign up via the main link in this post (or here).
  4. If an Argentinian address is requested, use this link and Google the postcode.
  5. Pay with a card that has no foreign exchange fees.

    Invited my main and family members to join Google Family on a secondary Google account I had.
    Setup Australian payment profile.
    Got it verified.
    Turned on VPN.
    Went to YT premium link and subscribed - it automatically created Argentina payment profile.

    One issue I'm having is that my secondary Google account is currently on 1 month free trial of YT Premium Family. Is it possible that because of this none of my other accounts can see YT Premium at all?

      Tried delete profile, readd profile for family member in Argentina, reinvite etc. still does not work.
      Not sure if it is because of free trail.

  • I logged in to an old unloved Gmail account from Argentina - thx to VPN. Added cc for pymt and got YouTube premium.

    Good news is I can now see YouTube Premium on my Samsung. Bad news is my region is now set to Argentina and I can't download Seven+ because it's not available in my new country.

    Was my region supposed to change to Argentina?

    • Maybe that account had not been connected to the play store before so region automatically defaulted to Argentina when you subscribed to YouTube premium? Once I wanted to access the Korean play store and connected an old unused account to the play store while on Korean VPN and was successful. Just checked and that account's region is still set to Korea.

      You can just use your usual account on the play store to download Australian apps, that account would still be set to Australia. Just like how my usual account is still set to Australia. You can easily change the account within the play store app.

    Youtube Families..

    I followed the instructions above from lenjet (thank you)
    1) Burner email
    2) Created Family Group Account
    3) Invited my terrors to the family account
    4) Checked they were all part of the group
    5) Activated VPN via Tunnelbear (Express VPN is a let down in this department)
    6) Subscribed to Youtube in Argentina and added my holiday address there.
    7) Successfully activated, paid and welcome message to confirm
    8) All members are part of the same group

    9) None of my accounts in the group are sharing the premium either activated or unactivated VPN.

    Am I missing something? tearing my hair out.

    • I had the same situation, automatically fixed in 48 hours once everyone in the family gorup got the YT premium email.

    • just with this wondering if you invited yourself and can change to be the manager?
      Not really a burner email if you have to keep it to be the manager?
      or doesn't really matter?

      I have a secondary email for 'less important' stuff, i'm pretty sure Google could still track you to the gmail as its linked in Google pay.

      Just thinking I need to start again and add the family member's first in AU, plus 3 spare spots then continue to change for payment as per steps.

    I did come across this problem.

    My additional steps if you followed lenjets process previously.

    1. Use VPN (tunnelbear)
    2. Verify ARG connection using www.whatismyip.com or similar.
    3. Use Chrome use incognito mode or private mode.
    4. Go to YouTube and login using the family manager details.
    5. Go to purchases and subscriptions and confirm premium membership.
    6. Once confirmed premium, watch a video. I watched some movie trailer.
    7. This will activate the family membership.
    8. You can then logout of YouTube.
    9. Disconnect VPN.
    10. Check YouTube premium with each family member.
    11. Each member should also receive an email saying they are accepted into the family membership and have use of YouTube premium.

    Always use the family manager with the Argentina VPN. If you don't then Google does suspend or block. The rest of the family members doesn't need a VPN to watch.

    • I had not heard this before about the family manager account needing to use VPN else Google will suspend of block. Is that confirmed?

      By the way, I am sooo enjoying YouTube Premium! Had not expected to like it this much. Makes a world of difference.

        This is only in relation to lensjets process at the start of you get stuck. It may have to do because new Argentinan accounts get 2 months free to start.

        I believe if you use the Argentina gift card way or an existing account that was used like in India or other country you don't have to use VPN on the family manager account because it's already activated.

      Got the family plan but didn’t invite any one yet. If I invite anyone who is in AUS, will it work for them ?
      Do they need VPN too ?
      I'm using the family manager account in AUS without VPN at the moment, its working fine so far..

    dont wana sound ignorant but cant people just get adblocker with a chrome plugin? to stop ads (best use case of youtube premium) or do people mostly use youtube on their ipads/iphone

      I use YouTube on my PlayStations and smart tv, none of which you can block ad without premium. And for less than $1.50/month, why even bother?

  • Canceled my India subscription and try to subscript to Argentina…With VPN it won't accept my payment, always got error "Your request failed. Ensure that your payment method info is correct or add a new payment method to your Google Account. Learn more [OR-CCSEH-05]"

    Tried a few times and always failed…And for now even though I want to subscript back to India, also got the same error…

    Does anyone know how to fix this?

        • I was actually on India subscription at the beginning as well, then cancelled to move to Argentina, didn't work so tried to go back to India and realised Amex couldn't be used anymore for India… Can't remember if I tried out other cards for India I was kinda determined to move to Argentina so must have gone through subscription process more than ten times, rotating around my 3 cards with all different addresses.

          Maybe you could try subscribing to Turkey instead, when I did so it didn't require an address so was really simple.

  • Thought I'd consider setting up a family YT premium again (get the folks add-free youtube).

    Just wondering if it's worth cancelling my individual YT premium membership (119 ARS, location Australia, next billing date mid-Jul) then convert to Family and set it up again, or convert to family membership (didn't see a link to do so) without cancel. Since the billing location is Argentina I didn't think you can invite family members outside of that country (and have tried it before and didn't work)?

    In the purchases and memberships area, I don't see any links or anything about Family.

    ie. no:
    Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships on a web browser.
    Click Get family plan.
    Click Get family plan again.
    Click Upgrade.

    Good not to mess with some stuff, not sure if get a part-month refund.

    • I don't think it's possible to change to the family membership without cancelling the individual one?

      In any case, it should be easier to set up the family group first before you subscribe to the family membership (if you haven't set it up already), at https://families.google.com/families with VPN off.

        Have activated, added a family on the Google side of things, nothing to do with YouTube premium yet

        Seems like a long running price, could wait till before next billing date..

                  @G-rig: Well for me, I have/had several payment profiles:

                  Australia - as you mentioned, has several duplicates of my home address
                  India - Has Indian address
                  Turkey - no address because one wasn't required when I signed up
                  Argentina (which I've deleted now) - Argentinian address

                  Unless you originally subscribed without an Argentinian address, the address should be there. And if that's the case, should be showing no address at all like my Turkey payment profile.

    created family,
    added few AU family members,
    but fail to add overseas (like DE) family member
    obviously as if being in different country.

    Tried to invite using AU, AR or DE VPN.

    Should fiddle with Payment Method?

    But the currency I see to sign up to YT premium is Japanese Yen for some reason?!

    Tried changing the country to Argentina in YT as well, same issue.

    • Whilst your VPN is active check the reported location on https://www.dnsleaktest.com/

      • it says Buenos Aires, Argentina.

        • its most likely the vpn server is already detected by google. you need to find another server.

  • I registered using the Argentinian VPN and it’s being billed as such, but YouTube takes aaages to load. Like I’m talking 1 minute+ for some videos. This same issue happens on my phone or TV, both using the same account.

    Any suggestions?

    • It shouldn't be any different once the VPN is off.

      What happens if you are signed out (/incognito) or signed in to another non-argentine account?

      What happens if you're using another ISP (mobile data?).

      It might be worth having a look at your “Stats for Nerds” on desktop and see if anything seems out of place - I'd be surprised if it had anything to do with your billing country.

      Not sure other countries but in case you can't find any and do want to become Argentinian, can try Tunnel Bear. Their free level will be sufficient to cover this.

    • Maybe try a different VPN. See. A ma y have had luck with Tunnel Bear. Def gets to Argentina.

  • What worked for me to add family members in post sign up

    1. Family member goes to youtube, top right click your name change country to argentina
    2. Family admin account logs in via VPN, sends invite
    3. Family member vpn to argentina*
    4. Family member accepts in incognito mode
    5. Family member can change country back to Australia and disconnect

    *The family member might not need to VPN to Argentina and changing the country to Argentina could be sufficient

        i think you can update your entire google account to a different country (so i assume that would mean all google services such as gmail, docs etc)

        in this case I only changed the youtube location

  • Can I confirm that it doesn't need the family manager who signed up for YouTube Premium to be able to share it among family members? It can be any (existing) family member who signed up YouTube Premium Family plan and share it with the family members.

    Edit: And I wonder what's the difference between the family manager who shares and the family member who shares.

Seems like they want to confirm the address for youtube premium via contacting them either phone, email or live chat. Anyone experienced this and how they got around this?

    • Maybe check at https://pay.google.com/ to see if your payment profile has been suspended? If it has, you could try the method I posted before.

    • I had this exact same problem when signing up to Google One via Turkey. I found that actually turning off the VPN just before clicking payment (but after VPN to show Turkish prices) and the payment subsequently went through.

  • Free Tunnelbear, a spare email that I used for an earlier free trial and sanity restored on Foxtel YouTube.
    Well worth $1.30/month for a dozen sessions a month on the TV. uBlock origin protects my PC.

  • I used a spare account to join and deleted all my google pay method on the main a/c before accepted the invitation.

    Now under settings, general, account, doesn't have any country in it, should I add it back but it won't allow me to just add address have to put C.C. in.

    Because without adding pay method, seems like have issue with search Aussie apps.

      Yes I just did this with no issues, you can follow these steps:

      1. Go Here while logged into your existing India subscription.
      2. Drop down "Manage Membership".
      3. Press Deactivate on your next billing date and go through the prompts to cancel your membership.
      4. Signup to Argentina using the method in the OP and it should start a new subscription for you in Argentina.

          I did it with a family account too. If you cancel the existing India subscription, it'll continue until the renewal date and keep all your family members tied but it'll mark it as "cancelled" and just works until the expiry date in your sub.

          From there, you can just sign up again with the Argentina method and it will apply against the whole family and shouldn't have any issues with family members using it. I'm not sure exactly what will happen if your renewal is a few days away, mine was today and it signed me up to Argentina and charged me for it today.

          That's how it worked for me at least.
