Hasn't been this low for a while. Update: As bargainsgrabber pointed out, lowest was this year lighting deal, and before that was last year's Black Friday deal 177.37 for $2.62 cheaper.

For those who want to hardwire, here is the kit that I bought with this DC: HK3 Hardwire Kit

2K 1440P 60fps+1080P 30fps Front and Rear Dash Camera with Wi-Fi GPS, Parking Mode, Emergency Recording, Super Capacitor, Motion Detection.

Product description copied from Amazon:
【2K 60fps+1080P 30fps Dual Dash Cam】A129 Plus Duo is the upgraded version of A129 Duo dash cam, front and rear camera shots road ahead at 2560*1440P 60fps and road behind at 1080P 30fps at the same time. Much more details can be easily captured including license plate and signpost. 140° wide angle is enough to cover the whole road and will not distort the image.
【Super Night Vision】Both front and rear camera is loaded with super high quality Sony Sensor which has better night vision than any other sensors. WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) technology, provide clearer view than most other car cameras in low-light conditions for nighttime driving.
【Built-in Wi-Fi & GPS】By connecting to wifi, you can view real-time video, transmit video, etc. on your phone at any time.. With GPS logger, dash camera can log the current speed and GPS location, also automatically correct the time by synchronizing with the satellite. Timestamp can be embedded in the video. Real-time speed would display on car camera screen in KM/H or MP/H.
【Parking Mode】Parking mode will be able to record events leading up to an impact / motion that has been detected. This is an excellent feature and completes a true parking mode as there can be a lot of vital information in the lead-up to whatever triggered recording. To use parking mode, it is better to buy VIOFO HK3 hardwire cable separately.
【Ideal Choice of Dash Cam】G-sensor, motion detection, auto start/stop, loop recording, time lapse recording, built-in microphone & speaker, mobile APP, support up to 256GB SD card, support optional CPL and Bluetooth remote control, one year warranty. A129 Plus Duo is the ideal choice for your dashcam.

Cheapest was when they had it as part of a lightning deal for $99
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/702818

    • Thoughts on waiting for a cheaper deal like this or getting this one? What price is this normally?

      Edit: looks like $270 normally

      • +4

Don’t wait for $99, it’s like waiting for $99 AirPods.

      • Thoughts on waiting for a cheaper deal like this or getting this one?

        Ask your broker…

    • That was crazy low, isn't that a price error or sth?

      • +2

price error or just some strange anomaly, either way i doubt it will be repeated, they seem to sell like hotcakes with normal sales and have a great reputation.

      • Not an error. managed to get one for $99

        • I managed to get fuel for $1.34 a litre the other day. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t an error though.

          • +1

@Ridiculous Panda: buying online is a different story, much less chance that I would have got an error online as there is time to cancel orders before they ship vs going to any 7 eleven fuel station straight away and getting fuel

    • This one or 4K, i was looking into buy one of these but still not decided.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/VIOFO-Buffered-G-Sensor-Detection-…

      • +1

4K version only does 30fps. Many think QHD at 60 fps is more than enough.

        • +1

Based on other ozbargain comments in previous deals and reviews online, it seems like you can choose 2K 60fps on the Pro duo 4K version.
          https://www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/viofo-a129-pro-duo-revie…

        • Agreed, I think most people go QHD at 60fps for more frames to capture details/reduced blur, but 4k defintely looks clearer. It's a trade off.

From my understanding, the biggest reason people opt for the Pro version is so they can use buffered parking mode, which isn't available on the Plus.

        • Can you do 60fps with dual cameras? I know some can do 60fps, but only when there is one camera, when you connect the second, it drops to 30fps.

      • That one supposedly faster for wifi downloading?

  • How do we get these lighting deals?

    • It was for a short period of time and already over. Might or might not come back next year

      • it is still available, I just checked. I paid when it was $240 bugger, already opened and installed too. :(

        • It’s on $199 now

  • +1

Would installing this with hardwire kit affect car warranty?

    • +2

Why would it? You aren't modify the car if you use fuse taps.

    • +2

I believe it wouldn't if you connect it to fuse taps.

      • +1

        Ok thanks

    • +3

You can connect to odb2 port. Saves ripping open the console.

  • Question: Instead using the hardware can we use this below car jump starter power bank instead? ist safe? Thanks

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09QS4QVPB/ref=ppx_yo_d…

  • Is 4K worth the upgrade?

    • +1

Note that 4K version only does 30fps. Many think QHD at 60 fps is more than enough.

      • I have blackvue in one of my car . I wanted to buy another one for my other care and which is cheaper than blackvue. So basically I can buy this and ignore the 4K version ?

      • I guess resolution is more important than FPS? I am using a 2K cam now. It's sometimes hard to see the rego. I wonder if a 4K cam will be better in this case.

    • +2

The Pro Duo (4K) one has the option to set front camera to 2K 60fps if you don’t want the default 4K 30fps.
      https://www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/viofo-a129-pro-duo-revie…

Edit: here’s a previous deal about the 4K one. Basically the advantages of the 4K one is obviously having the option of 4K 30fps but also the buffered parking mode.

  • Interested in buying, anyone installed in a Honda Odyssey? Is it difficult to install? Thanks

    • -2

      Is it difficult to install?

      Depends on your skills.

    • installing the front camera is easy - you can route the cable under the roof lining, then to the right side of the car, then tuck it under the A frame (?).
I have not attempted mounted any rear cam, so no comment on that.

edit: the cable for the rear cam is apparently 6m long so it could be not long enough for Odyssey. You can buy the 8m cable though.

  • Hi OP. How does the hardwire kit work with the rear camera?

    • it has a long cable, which my installer hid it in the roof liner, running from the rear to the front.

      • Thankyou

      • +1

How much did the installer charge you?

    • +1

i dont have the pro, but the standard one A129.

the rear camera is connected to the Front Camera, so its powered through the front camera, and passed through to the rear camera. the rear camera isnt wireless - ive run my cables through the trim or as others have, through the floor and back up.

      • Any idea if you could connect it to an existing reverse camera as the camera would have to be installed outside the car (ute with canopy not clear enough to see through)?

        • No. It needs to record to the chip in the front camera. It's not waterproof or designed to be installed outside.

          • @dassaur: Thanks. I ordered one anyway, so I'll see what I can do with the existing external camera.

            • @RichardMelbourne: wouldn't the reverse camera burn out if you manage to fix it up as a rear recorder? i red somewhere that they are not built to constantly record images, unlike the actual rear camera that is built for such purpose

              • @HG Dendrobium: Never heard/read that, but also didn't search for anything like that. It's still in the box, so I haven't tried it yet: 101 other things to do, first.

      • Thankyou

  • Usually high resolution 4K cameras are not needed, just as long as the camera picks up the other car doing something illegal or crashing into you, you don’t even need to pickup the plate number, you can provide the video footage to the police and the many street cameras all over Metro areas in Australia will pickup the culprits rego if they do a runner.

    • you don’t even need to pickup the plate number

How can you prove who's is the other car without video of the plates?

      • At that point it's probably close enough to be pretty clear :)

    • +6

Sorry but if you think police would bother… You're sorely mistaken. They're way too lazy to do so unless it leads to a fatality or gets major news coverage.

  • Automatic parking mode?
I believe it doesn't have it - hard to tell.

    • I think you need the hard wire kit to have it work

      • No, it's not related to that.

        • How do you power it when your car is off and parked?

          • @chinaman: There are fuse taps that power seats, lights etc even when car is off and you tap power from there to the camera.

            • @dealt: That's just going to drain your car battery. You need a hard wire kit to prevent that.

    • It is literally in the title of the Amazon listing.

    • -1

Can someone who is aware of this issue answer?

      • What was mentioned above is correct, the hard wire kit connects to two different fuses.

If you do so, if you turn off the ignition it will effectively switch to the other fuse which if you connected to an always on then it goes to parking mode, once you start the ignition it then switches back and exits parking mode.

It's a bit iffy in my experience and I've had to do a few resets due to the device freezing.

    • +1

I am referring to this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12188522/redir

If you haven't read that or aren't aware of this issue then there is no point commenting.

Edit: Thanks to irarelycomment for the answer

  • One review says:

Turn on the WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) on day time and off it at night time. With WDR on at night the videos coming out with lot of noise and merely useless.

What do current owners think about that?

    • +1

Unless the camera does it automagically … an annoying pain in the butt!

  • I have the VIOFO A129 Duo1080P model.

Is it worth upgrading to this?

    • Any Issues with your footage? Are number plates hard to see for the front camera? If so, get it, otherwise don't

  • They have so many versions now, it's getting to be a joke.

Bought the one with built-in 16gb memory yesterday for a couple of dollars more, which seems like a much better deal.

Been using an a129 Duo for some time now. Fairly happy with it. It has a couple of shortcomings that my old BlackVue DR-400 didn't have, but for the price, they are hard to beat.

  • I bought this one awhile back but then I bought a car with BlackVue installed so I don't need it anymore. Where is best place to sell it?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07SRQH4R7

    • OzBargain classifieds?

      • Whats the main diff between 119 and 129?

  • I need one for my car, is it worth getting it for this price or wait for more deals, thank u

    • I'll just go for a drive and check…

    • I reckon worth it.

    • If you can, get/wait for the USB C one. The microusb connector is very outdated.

      • It's a permanent connection, what difference would USB c make to the experience.

        • Hardwire kit HK3 has been known to have issues with certain batches so easier to avoid that.

Better future proofing and ease of wiring if upgrading to a newer unit or the current one fails.

  • Thanks OP!

  • +2

I got the 4k model on prime day for 216.

    • +1

      That only does 30fps

    • I did same and prefer the flexibility to pick and choose 2/4k as I wish

      • Same! Plus buffered parking mode

        • Same! Plus 5ghz wifi. Faster download speed

  • What's the difference between this and the VIOFO Dual Dash Cam, 2K 1440P 60fps+1080P 30fps Front and Rear Dash Camera with Wi-Fi GPS, Parking Mode, Emergency Recording, Super Capacitor, Motion Detection (A129PlusDuo with16GB EMMC) https://amzn.asia/d/9Z4G2uS

    • Includes 16GB internal storage.

  • So would this A129PlusDuo with16GB EMMC be considered a better option? Only asking because I got this one in my car

    • The 16GB EMMC would be better. It provides a temporary storage solution if you took out the MicroSD card and forgot to put it back in or if it malfunctions.

      • Thanks for the clarification

shitty cheap chinese product. Blackvue is the go

    • Blackvue is also made in China, even if it is a Korean product.

  • +2

The HK3 Hardwire Kit for these cameras has got many negative reviews from Australia on Amazon. Avoided the impulse of buying the A129 pro yesterday through the amazon prime deal for that reason.

  • Would this also work as a reversing camera?

    • +2

Maybe in a pinch. One could technically use the WiFi feature and watch the rear camera through the Viofo app.

Personally I think people should be able to maneuver their vehicle without parking aids… The more drivers use the tech, the worse off they are when it stops working.

      • Yeah totally agree was asking for a friend but yeah def not workable for them.. thanks very much!

  • Has anyone used these with utes?
I am wondering (if) how the rear camera can be used. Presumably the cameras are not waterproof so can't sit out of the cabin.

Parking mode on these seem to be pretty useful for cars parked on narrow streets.

  • I have the same model bought from Amazon during the sale. The biggest surprise it has given is that it stops recording once the card is full, unlike its previous model A119 which would override older files this just stops recording. I have tried updates and factory restores but none seems to have resolved the issue. I now have a 256GB card and periodically I manually do a card format to clear the card.
