Apple iPhone SE (3rd Gen) 64GB $619 Delivered @ David Jones

700

Same pricing as the Amazon deal (now on back order). David Jones actually had this deal on last week, took it off yesterday & put it back on again this morning. It's $100 off across their iPhone range. https://www.davidjones.com/brand/apple/iphones?q=iphone&redi…
Should be able to get price beat @ Officeworks as well.

  • Looking at buying a new iPhone for my partner. None with larger memory?

    • +5

The 128gb look to be $699. Price match with Officeworks for ~$664 before they drop the price to match it.

      • Thanks Whorl, took your advice and bought the 128gb at OW online. Dont forget to use your Flybuys card if collecting points

      Get the 11.

      • +7

This has a 2-gen newer cpu with hardware based security improvements. I would get this if you in any way care about privacy etc

        • +3

New tech in old guts. For most people this is a good deal though the storage is limited.

          • @Caped Baldy: Cheers.

Her main uses are the camera and web browsing.

            This or the iPhone 11??

            • +1

@ToonarmY: Screen is much bigger in the 11 with same physical size as se has huge bezels. 11 has dual cameras vs 1 on the se.

              11 better on both fronts.

            • +2

@ToonarmY: The SE will have a bit longer update support but if she uses the cameras the 11 might be the way to go. They are just wide and ultrawide though.

edit: the 13 is $999 at Telstra.

Having a look at the iphone 11 it lacks 5g and has an LCD screen

            • +2

@ToonarmY: Consider the 5G vs 4G, if plan to use this phone more than 2 years, I suggest to get a 5G phone, like this SE3 or iPhone 13 from telstra deal. I’ve already felt slow speed on 4G when in 5G coverage area. Telstra/Optus will close 3G in 2023/24. At that time,4G will be slower and slower. If you plan to get another new phone in 2 years, 11 is better than SE3.

              • @sydracing: $999 for the 13 is a solid deal. Normally have to sell an organ for the latest iphone.

It's a shame that they fragment the camera system behind the pro moniker. Wouldn't be that expensive to give the cheaper models a telephoto lens.

    • Storage space or ram?

    • -1

Just be aware that the iPhone SE 2 (2020) has very poor Wifi reception.
There are complaints about this problem all over the internet and the issue remains unresolved as of iOS 15.5.

Hopefully this has been addressed in the SE3.
At this stage when I search for poor Wifi reception for the iPhone SE 3 (2022) nothing comes up in Google Search.

  • +1

128gb is $699, if OW do the price match, it will be $665

  • There should be no reason for OW to reject the price match/beat for this deal.

    • +9

Never underestimate the creativity of an Officeworks employee… talented people

      • go to a different OW and find a less talented employee :D

        • +3

I used to work in an OW and honestly, most the team members had no clue how to process price beats despite plenty of training. It's a pretty simple guideline. Ensure the product is in stock at whoever it's being beaten at, is it genuine Australian stock with all included warranties. Pretty much If I saw it was at a well-known reputable seller (i.e David Jones) I would match it no questions asked. Random online stores took a bit more investigation. To be fair to some team members though, some managers would flat out deny price matches because they didn't want it to affect budget and margins.

  • Is there any difference of how many years of the warranty for the phone if I buy from David Jones or Officeworks, comparing to if I buy directly from Apple Store?

    • +2

No. Apple gets a record of product purchases from all sources. So just go back to Apple for your warranty claim

    • +2

Officially suppose to be no difference. However, it is not as perfect as you think. Within device official warranty, especially the first year, no issue.

After the first year, depends. If Apple can detect the warranty based on the official date of activation, then it is fine. If not and you cannot produce some proof, then Apple could fallback to device manufacture date approximation, which reduces the warranty period. It's probably only a few weeks worth of differences. Ideally, keep your invoices.

On my most recent trip to Apple store, date of manufacturing was used to approximate (because I didn't bring my invoice). It was over 2 years anyway so it was at Apple's discretion. Apple declined to provide warranty repair. No, Apple did NOT know where I purchased the phone from. The staff asked me and I told him it was from Officeworks.

If you have 10% discount Apple cards, plus education discount, the price is technically cheaper than this (assuming you count that 10% discount in Woolies/Coles reward points as cashback).

    • +2

It's the same one year Apple Limited Warranty regardless of where you buy.

      https://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/au/

Outside of the warranty, for coverage under Australian Consumer Law

Who to contact to make a claim
      The seller

Technically for coverage under ACL you need to take it back to the seller (aka David Jones or Officeworks).

      • Apple will honour coverage under ACL regardless of the place of purchase.
        https://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/au/

        • Yes, but they're not obligated to - it's the seller responsible for coverage under ACL, not the manufacturer.

That's why I said 'technically' - Apple is going above and beyond even though they're not obligated if you bought from Officeworks or JB HiFi or David Jones, etc

    • Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge.

  • tried to price match with apple. Apparently DJs is not on their list of "authorised" resellers………

    • Apple won't price match this. This is over the percentage discount Apple AU is willing to price match.

      • not this item, I'm looking at a 13 mini - so less than 10%

        • Sounds like the Apple staff is providing a BS excuse.

          • @netsurfer: called twice - 2 different people, both said no

            • @Anonymous18: Must be iPhone 13 Mini? Telstra doing the $999 iPhone 13 deal again ($1499 for iPhone 13 Pro). If you have Telstra Plus points, can lower that even further.

              • @netsurfer: I got myself the 13 from Telstra, wife wants the mini where discounts seem to be harder to come by. Rumours are that there win't be a mini refresh, so this is as good as its going to get I think.

Any one tried price match OW online? (by calling 1300 633 423)

    • +2

Office works are taking phone orders and honoring the price match with discount. Its only available click and collect.

      • +1

I managed to get free delivery when I called so it might be dependent on who the rep is?

    • Price beat honoured without any problem for iPad Air this morning and delivery too!

  • Ok, apologies for hijacking this thread. Bit off topic but still apple related.

Anyone ever managed to claim price protection on 28 degree/latitude for the purchase of an apple watch? I know dumb watches are excluded from policy.

  • -1

not even that good of a deal considering the new SE comes out in september no?

    • +1

You got confused. This is the 2022 model (released 18/3/2022), A15 chip. That CPU is what makes this phone enticing.

    • The iphone 14 will be out in September, not SE4. If Apple will release a SE4, it maybe 2024. SE1 was released in 2016, SE2 2020, SE3 2022.

    • did they charge for delivery and how much it cost?

got a link for the officework product code APIPSE32?

If you buy this phone from 100 years ago at the price they're asking I laugh at you. Ha!

    • +1

Imagine going back in time 100 years, digging up Alexander Graham Nell's 7 day old corpse, and showing him what his invention has become

      • Nell is not Bell but yep, he'd be flabbergasted!

        • "Mr Watson, come here, I want you…to see these cute cat videos!"

  • Hi, I'm in the market for a replacement iPhone, considering one of these 'SE' models or an 11… tend to keep my phones for a few years, so support with ios updates and newer cpu is important to me. But I do prefer the larger screen of the iPhone 11.

I saw a while back that Coles were offering the iPhone 11 for $499? but can't see it at that price anymore ??

    • Those were refurbs

      • Would be quite happy with a refurb, AFAIK Coles were giving a 12 mth warranty?
Even people with used iPhones on FB Market place are asking these kinds of prices for well used / damaged iPhones… :-?

  • Am I missing something? Why a 3rd gen iPhone is sold at $619 and still considered a deal and people still willing to buy this?

    • +2

This is 3rd Gen of iPhone SE. This one is from 2022 with A15 Processor (same processor as iPhone13) but iPhone 8 body and parts for other components (screen, touch ID, battery size). Most likely this phone will perform FASTER than iPhone 13 as it has a lower resolution screen.

      • -1

Thank you for that. I didn't know.

      • The battery is actually about 11% bigger in the SE (2018 vs 1821mAh) and the screen no longer has 3D Touch, otherwise the same.

  • Awesome thanks OP. Bought a 256GB Starlight for the lady. She loves the form factor of her iPhone 8 and wants to use it forever but it will be out of support next year probably. Given the A15 was released last year I expect IOS support will be available till 2028.

    • +1

So they cancelled my order due to no stock, yet you can still buy it online. Funny to see they are still a garbage dinosaur Australian retailer that can't get a basic online ordering system right in 2022.

First and last time I buy from DJ's.

  • Thanks OP. I bought the 126gb version for $699. It's already in the mail for (free) delivery. A great price.

It tried to buy from Officeworks (price beat) but got the run around so just got it from DJs. Far less hassle.

  • Thanks OP. Price matched at OW physical store in WA no issue for 128gb @ $664.05 Midnight.

  • Have not seen any good case deals for the 22SE put up yet. Anyone spotted any deals?

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/incipio-organicore-case-f…

    • Hold up, that case is only $1?!

      • Isn't the SE 2022 is the same size as the 7, the 8 and the SE2020?

        • Yep! Technically it’s slightly bigger by 0.4mm.

  • Just price matched this at OW, for $644.05, no issues at all. Last one on the shelf! Brilliant deal, thanks OP, love this community :)
