500Mbps & nbn fibre upgrades

As I mentioned we're now offering 500Mbps/50Mbps, which with a 12 month discount is a great option if you're eligable for nbn's fibre upgrade program, which you can find more details about at https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-fibre-upgrade/.

Existing customers

If you are an existing customer and have not had a promotion in the last 12 months we will be happy to provide you with this discount. Please just contact our support team which you can do very easily at https://leaptel.com.au/contact/.

In any other circumstances also just reach out and see what our team can do, we are willing to assess any reasonable requests on a case by case basis.

Opticomm

If you're in an Opticomm area we have different 6 month offers which can be found at https://leaptel.com.au/opticomm-plan/. We'd love to match the nbn offer but Opticomm's wholesale pricing is more expensive (and they just put their prices up again!) than nbn and we presently absorb a $99 ex gst activation charge for all new connections alongside other charges.

Speed & Service

We are with nbn directly on 121/121 nbn POIs which means guaranteed no CVC congestion as we control our own CVC and have lots of headroom.

IPoE/DHCP is our standard connection method (no vlan tagging required) and we are happy for you to BYO modem. We do support PPPoE as well should you wish to use that connection method.

All connections are CGNAT by default, however you can disable CGNAT and receive a IPv4 dynamic IP at no cost through our portal, full details at https://leaptel.com.au/faq-cgnat/.

We support IPv6 in a trial/alpha configuration and can be toggled on in our portal.

We have points of presence in data centres in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney with peering and transit in each. You can check out our looking glass at - https://lg.leaptel.com.au/.

Our support team is located in Box Hill, Melbourne, so when you have a problem you're talking to someone local. Wait time are kept to a minimum and we support livechat and email tickets as well.

Who we are

Many of you won't know who Leaptel is. And that's fair, we've mostly been focused on providing services on the Opticomm network which has allowed us to do what we're now doing on nbn.

To keep it brief, this is who we are:

We are 100% Australian owned and operated.
We are 100% committed to providing a high quality product.
We are 100% dedicated to providing the best customer service possible.
We are 100% devoted to improving every day in everything we do.
We are 100% willing to own our mistakes and learn from them.

And I think our reviews back this up.

Please check out our Whirlpool Thread if you'd like to know more about us.

I will happily answer any questions here as well of course.

Edit: 30/09/2022 - We will be continuing this deal and it will last at least until the end of October.

Got an email from ABB within an hour regarding final invoice and cancellation. Cheers

  • Does referral program stack with this promotion?

  • +1 for looking after previous customers and taking time to reply here

I'm with exetel. My plan isn't any more expensive but might go to you guys.

Just wanted to check. I have a modem that they supplied, will this do the job with just changing a few settings?

    • Looking after existing customers is both the right thing to do and also good business sense… it's easier to retain than gain a customer.

As we support IPoE/DHCP your extel modem should work without any changes I believe. I can't guarantee it because its not our gear but most equipment just works with IPoE.

    • Yep really good to see current customers can get the same deal if they've been there for a year. Hopefully a sign of things to come…

  • I'm currently with TPG, can I use the modem came with TPG to connect with you guys?

    • I would think so. We use IPoE like most providers these days and its just plug and play. But I cannot guarantee that TPG hasn't locked their router in some way either.

  • Great timing! Just got the email from iiNet that they're jacking the prices - so definitely looking at switching now.

Sadly, I've been using my iiNet email for years - and only been using gmail more in the past year or two - the nervousness to change away and losing that email is severe!

    • +4

Totally understand the email thing. All I can say is the sooner you bite the bullet and give up the ISP email the better.

Companies like to give you additional "products" because it makes you more sticky… you might be able to get a better internet deal but moving emails is so pesky… so you never move.

That said, I still can't get my inlaws to give up their Telstra internet for the same reason

  • Have been using their service for a year and it is really good. The internet connection is very stable at night and meets the typical speed listed on the website.

  • Been with Leaptel for a while now (Opticomm Network) and I've never had any issues with them.

I've always got the advertised speed with them.

  • When I put my address in, it is missing this

    100Mbps 40Mbps $84.95/Month

But has the other slower and faster options, and has a 24 month contract , what am I doing wrong

    HFC is my connection type

My Aussie BB month to month expires on 29th September. Will this offer be still running?

    Thank you

    • This promo is presently ongoing, meaning we haven't set an end date. It will at least run through September.

Whith the plan, the 100/40 is an upload boost on the 100Mbps/20Mbps plan on our form, so if you scroll down you'll see it under data options.

If you have any issue jump on livechat and speak to our team, they're open until 9pm tonight (although they're getting alot of calls and chats today so please be patient!).

  • I have ABB at the moment but also have home phone with them (live with elderly parent). Does anyone know if i can churn the nbn away but keep the phone with ABB or is it package type thing. I see it as two separate services on the support page. The reason i would stay is it's $10 cheaper than leaptels phone.

    • +1

The best thing to do would be to port your home phone number to a third party VoIP provider such as Crazytel. That way you can easily port between NBN providers to take advantage of the latest deals/promos without having to worry about porting the home phone all the time.

      • Might be the best way to go.

  • Any residential gigabit plans? 1000/50?

    • Not with Leaptel.

      • That’s unfortunate. I’d happily try another ISP if they offered a sub ~$150/month plan for 1Gbps

  • @LeaptelRep do we need to put a promo code or referral link here is our only option?

    • No need for a promo code. Its an offer option by default on our website. The referall link is for refer a friend where the person who refers you gets $50 after you stay with us for at least 2 months. - https://leaptel.com.au/refer-a-friend/

      • Thanks for quick reply. But the link you shared said both will get $50 each? "Get great internet for you and your mate to earn $50 Credit for you and $50"

        • Yes you will need to check the T&Cs (https://leaptel.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Leaptel-Re…). The refer a friend program is a promotional offer, so you can't benefit from two promotions.

As per the T&Cs: The referee will receive a $50 credit upon paying their second month invoice unless they have obtained another promotion during the online application process. This $50 credit will be applied to their account for their third month invoice.

  • How does international transit compare to Superloop, AussieBB and Telstra? I'm pretty sure those three own their own whereas Leaptel would be on Vocus?

How are pings? Who do you use? Thanks.

    • We do use Vocus for international transit. Domestic peering is all managed by ourselves with links to IX AUS, MegaportIX, Equinix IX etc.
You can access our looking glass at https://lg.leaptel.com.au/ if you want to check any traceroutes.

    • +1

I did some international ping tests on some AWS servers here if you're curious (Leaptel use Vocus): Google Sheets link
It's of course not reflective on speeds or reliability.

  • How does Leaptel compare to ABB in terms of technical support, gaming pings?

    • +1

Our support team is Australian based. We've been providing nbn services since 2015 and you can check out our reviews here - https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/leaptel

In terms of latency, you shouldn't experience any jitter because our CVCs have plenty of free capacity. You can use our looking glass to check latency from our core network to the location of your choice at https://lg.leaptel.com.au/

  • -3

    So the plan jumps $20pm
    After 12 month. Meh

    • +2

Welcome to every introductory offer since Adam and Eve

    • +3

You should think as more 20x12 in your wallet

    • Lol. I haven't seen someone be negative about a deal because it is normally a higher price before.

  • +1

Any reason not to swap from AussieBB, even if only for 1 year so I save a couple of hundred bucks? Both fully staffed by Australians and don't outsource so why shouldn't I?

    • +1

Loyalty doesn't pay… 15+ years with TPG with multiple accounts.

      • Similar experience. Twenty years plus with TPG and price rise not negotiable.

  • +1

How long does this promotion go for?

    • +1

This is an ongoing promotion with no set expiration rate. It will at least go for all this month, but we may continue it as well. We haven't decided.

  • Do I get 50/20 $59.95 on the 24 months option?
    Is there a credit check?
How long is this promo? I would like to switch but have to give 30 days notice first, I think.

    • There is little value in a 24 month option unless you want to get the router from us for free and we're offering the discount for 12 months only. It is likely your present providers router will work with our network.
We credit check 24 month options as we're required to under ACMA's TCP code. But month-to-month contracts don't require it, so they are not credit checked.
Promo presently has no expiration date.

    • Who need 30 days notice?

  • No Promo for 25/5 as it shows as a pricey $59.95? Don't need any faster as thats fine for Netflix, Kayo and more.

    • Unfortunately due to the way nbn structures its wholesale pricing, 25/5 is a very low margin product which is difficult to offer promos on.

  • I signed up and applied for the FTTP upgrade (from FTTC). Will I churn with my existing connection before the upgrade, or will it wait and I stay with my current provider until the techs upgrade my connection?

    • If you're not an existing customer with us, then by default we will just order an upgrade and your connection with us starts once that goes live. If you'd prefer to move your current connection to us before then then reach out to us at anytime via our contact options.

  • Hi. What’s the usual churn time once I put in the request? Lets say first thing Saturday morning.

    • So we still manually check all orders once you hit submit, so during business hours its within the hour for it to be submitted to nbn. And then nbn normally completes it within half an hour I want to say. But if something goes wrong it can take 1-2 business days for the order to complete. The occasional order does get stuck with nbn unfortunatel and getting it unstuck is just a matter of being patient. But the incidence rate on this has to be something less than 1%, and is generally restricted to HFC (where they detect a signal level issue on the NTD and refuse to activate it automatically).

  • How easy is it to switch to another provider? Haven't switched to another ISP since ADSL2/Cable days and there was always 1-2 week between, back and forth with router changing/technicians. Currently with AussieBB and prices are way too high compared to other ISPs.

    • I think the rep have answered your question, see above

  • Do you use the Sydney - Tokyo cable?

  • +2

Is there an option to see the CVC charts like with ABB/Superloop? As a gamer latency is important for me, I don’t want to sign up only to experience ping spikes or packetloss during peak hours due to my POI getting hammered each night.

Currently with Telstra and my ping is usually around 5-8ms with barely any spikes (if any) but I’m paying $110 for 100/20

  • I plan to sign up.

Who has a referral code? 🙂 first come first serve

    • You better read all comments on this thread from page 1… slowly…

      • +1

Isn't it if I use a referral code, that person can get $50 credit?

I don't mind not get the $50 fee since I'm moving regardless.

  • How much does a ipv4 static IP cost?

    • As per below, you can purchase a static IP for an additional $10 per month. CGNAT is on by default but you can turn it off at 0 cost through our portal.

  • +1

I’ve just cancelled TPG because of non-negotiable price rise. Inclined to try Spintel. Has anyone got experience with them?

    • Whats the promo with spintel?

From what i read here, abb, superloop, leaptel, all three are ones of the best. Maybe more can gointo this group, i am not sure.

Wont go wrong with one of them, so just pick the cheapest.

      • $54 a month for first 6 months, then $64.95 a month for NBN 50/20. Product Review average 4.3 from 940 reviews.

        • Wow.. similar promo price with superloop. Good find… dilemma…

          • +1

@CyberMurning: Product Review decided me. Spintel 4.3 vs Superloop 3.2.

    • Same Spintel deal from 2021 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/650041, see the comments section. Also check https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/716605

I might just sign up with this Leaptel deal, I don't want to hunt for a new deal every six months if I don't have to.

      • thats what i thought. 6 months is very quick

  • Finally got one on 3rd attempt, coral (red) 92% battery health. Very happy. Looks new

    • Ok bro

    • Sorry my bad, posted in wrong thread.

      • +1

I…. want to know what you got now.

  • Good enough, I swapped over from ABB, see how it goes…..

  • What’s with the shitty upload speed? 250/25?!?! I get better upload on my fttn 60mbit max line! And 500/50 just wow.

    • As twix pointed out on page 1:

Yep the nbn AVC is 250/25 and 1000/50. There is no 250/50 AVC.

  • Do you guys use CGNAT?

    • +1

They do by default, but you can easily opt out of it from your account page.

    • +1

It's mentioned in the advert under Speed and Service.

  • I would like to sign up with you for a FTTP upgrade on a 500/50 plan. I'm currently with ABB. I believe FTTP upgrades will be offered in my area on Oct 4th (as per Launtel's address checker). I don't want to miss out on the introductory price but I also don't want to start it now given I would get a bigger discount once on the higher plan.

If I was to place an order via your website now, is it possible to only have it go through once the FTTP upgrade is available at my address?

    • So if you sign up now it'd just be a normal service transfer. Once your address is ready for FTTP upgrade (which you can check through our page) just get in touch with our team and we'll organise it for you.

  • Is porting as easy as like porting mobile service provider?
No need for me to mess around with the router and my wifi password will still the same?
    Thanks

    • Landline porting is sadly no where near as quick as porting a mobile phone number (although my own personal experience with that a few months ago was a nightmare…). It's relatively easy in terms of what you need to do to port it, which is provide us the number and a bill proving it is your number, and this is all collected as part of our online signup form.

You likely won't need to reconfigure your router to make the internet work if you're currently configured for IPoE/DHCP with your current provider. If they're using PPPoE (which is an older form of authentication) then you will need to login to the router. But generally they all have a good wizard and detect IPoE is available. But every router is different.

If you have VOIP you will 100% need to reconfigure the router to make it work as you will need to input some settings we provide.

  • a bit out of topic, but has anyone have experience in upgrading from FTTN to FTTP in terms of the location of NTU?

my nearest room to the utility box is bedroom. concern that would be the case.

tempted to go higher speed taking the promo opportunity. but I don't want to have sleep depravation as well

    • +1

The best I could find for you was the information on the nbn page at https://www.nbnco.com.au/residential/upgrades/fttp-upgrade-w…

      Specifically:
The nbn® technician will advise where the best location is to install the nbn™ connection box
In most cases, the nbn® connection box needs to be installed:
      * Reasonably close to a power point
      * Near the nbn® utility box (outside your home) to allow easy access – this means usually near the front of the property
      * Away from busy areas where it may be knocked or damaged
      * A cool, dry, ventilated area (nbn® equipment cannot be installed in a damp or wet area such as a kitchen, bathroom, laundry, or under a window that opens, and away from existing utilities such as gas lines or external water systems)
      * Somewhere where blinking lights won’t be distracting, but easy for you to see and check the indicator lights
      * In the same building as the main electric meter box or distribution board (i.e. not in a separate detached garage or outhouse)

Not sure that really helps answer your question though.

      • Thanks Op, it looks like, it is a the hand of the tradie who does the cabling

      • The best I could find for you was the information on the nbn page at https://www.nbnco.com.au/residential/upgrades/fttp-upgrade-w…

There is no mentioning of the option NOT to install the FTTP battery backup.

        • nbn will 100% be happy not to install the battery backup if you don't want it. Let our team know after your order is placed and we will see if we can modify or flag the order as such.

But nbn doesn't really want to install battery backups if it doesn't have to.

  • Anyone want me to use their referal code just post under here, may need to submit after the churn, but should be fine.

  • Do I need to cancel with my current ISP prior to signing up a new connection, or can I do it without cancelling with my current ISP?

    • +1

So you can do that, but the easiest way is to signup with us and get us to "churn" or service transfer your connection to us. What this means is we will lodge a connection request to nbn to transfer your service from your existing ISP to us. This will result in nbn sending a notification to your old ISP advising them the service has been transferred.

I do always advise contacting your previous ISP yourself to be sure they have stopped billing you for the service, as under most T&Cs the onus is on you to advise of cancellation and not rely on a 3rd party. However most ISPs will have systems in place to advise that they've received the transfer notification from nbn and you won't need to do anything.

      • okay great thank you. If I am due to be billed by my old ISP on the 30th, would churning on the 29th be enough time (i.e same day transfer) to ensure i dont get charged another month with my disconnected ISP? (They do not do prorated refunds unfortunately.)

Thanks for the succinct and prompt reply btw!

        • +2

In almost all cases a service transfer are carried out within 30minutes or less. However if the order got stuck in nbn's system it can result in a 1-2 business day timeline for them to resolve the case as per their service level agreements with ISPs.

So I guess it's up to you to make an informed decision about whether you want to risk it or not.

Personally I would feel comfortable churning my service on the 29th, but I'd do so knowing their is a very small risk I had to pay for a month of internet I didn't use with my old provider.

Edit: quick edit to say we do manually approve your signup, so I would suggest getting your order in ahead of time, but you can select on your order what date you want it to happen. Select the 29th and our system will automatically lodge it through to nbn on the 29th at 00.00h. So then there's the entire day for the order to proceed.

  • Hi OP, I signed up the other night for connect date later in the month (16th).

Is it normal for my credit card to already be charged?

    • +1

Not the OP but I signed up this evening for a delayed connection and I've been charged too. I'd say it's normal. Account is created and in credit to pay the service in advance on connection.

    • I assume if it is credit card based, there will be no credit check. some (profanity) just ID theft me, and I was suggested to block my credit check.

little that I know the electricity provider that I planned to move into, did a credit check, and fail.

this (profanity) create so much inconvenience

    • Yes we collect the first month's payment in advance, as advised during the signup process. It is also how we verify your details are valid.

If you decide to not proceed (for whatever reason) we will refund the money no questions asked.

  • Hi Op, if I am coming from FTTN and going for FTTP with NBN100 with leaptel, do you upgrade to FTTP automatically or we need to request?

and the 12 months period with nbn100 to avoid penalty, when does it counted from? from the day we sign up with nbn100 or from when the fttp is ready?

    • If you signup selecting to do the fibre upgrade then yes you will get FTTP. It's a concious choice you make on the signup form (you can't miss it don't worry!).

The 12 months starts from the day you connection goes active.

If you have more questions please check out our fibre upgrade page (https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-fibre-upgrade/) and also speak to our team on livechat they would love to assist.

      • thank you

  • The CIS is still showing 30 days notice for cancellation, kind of stopping me from signing up. Is this getting updated anytime soon?

    • +1

The revised language was approved yesterday and the CIS should be updated today. I don't have the precise language to hand but the 30 day notice of cancellation will be removed.

      • I am now advised it has been updated and upon checking I have confirmed this for myself. The new minimum term text is as follows:
Leaptel’s NBN™ Internet plans are supplied on either a no lock-in contract term (service automatically rolls over unless cancelled before the roll over date), or 24 month contract term (early termination fees apply). See the Minimum Total Cost applicable to each plan in the information about pricing section. Pro-rata credits are applied upon request. Any post paid costs will also be applied.

As per the CIS link locatd on https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-plans/ and the signup form itself.

        • Great, thank you. Signing up now
