Do you live near a hotspot?

  • -2

Just went on chat with one of their reps and apparently this offer isn't valid anywhere right now…

    • You just sign up on the link?

      • +2

Havent yet as unsure if it will be honoured, looking to switch from Belong as they increased the price and decreased speed lol

        • No I meant you can sign up through the link which says it's 54.88 for 24 months, so you could point the rep in that website

        • I thought it was just me. I've moved to More on the cba plan. I asked the Belong call centre if it was a real email as it is ridiculous. He kept going on about wait to November for a better deal. If you gonna p1ss off customers with an increase in fees and a decrease in speed have the alternate plan ready. Keep customers 101.

  • Just chatted with their customers service and they told me that only some addresses are available for this NBN light up program. I am not in this scope.

    • but the shit bastards will happily let you sign up and forward direct debit details…

      • +3

Yes those “shit bastards” are the very worst kind of bastards. Worse even than those dastardly pissy bastards or the reviled shit buggars!

I can’t believe they have the temerity to let you direct debit monthly payments, when you’re flat out trying to find the cheapest internet plan on earth and save a few pennies for the next value meal price hike!

Damn those “shit bastards” to hell…

        • lol

  • The 100/20 is very tempting, similar price for ABB 50/20

  • +3

Can I use my Belong router with them?

  • +14

    Internet prices here are ridiculous.

    • +3

Phone plans, youtube, video streaming subscriptions, coffee, food, accommodation, transport….actually make that everything!

  • +1

i get the 6 month deals cause nbn offers rebates for getting people onto the higher speed plans. not sure how they are making money on the 100Mbs plan as it's $58 wholesale ex GST

    • -2

      Maybe they sell your data?
      Cough cough optus….

      • +6

Optus didn't sell your data. They got breached like any company is able to and a lot have. It's just that recent laws have been passed that they have to provide a full disclosure or they'll get fined millions (just for a whistleblower to report it anyway which has even worse consequences).

I'm not sticking up for Optus nor am I a customer of them. Just don't fall for Telstra's current bombardment of ads saying they are completely secure. No one is.

        • Also something to note is that the Optus customer data hasn't been purchased or released yet so there's potential for no actual harm to come.

  • How do you actually sign up? It seems to be missing a sign up button?

    • +1

Sign up button appears after selecting a plan, clicking 'no lock in contract' and clicking a modem option.

  • This deal is insane

  • still my 25mb Commbank More deal is cheaper than this 25mb deal…

    • This is a 50mbps deal? I understand they've got a 25 option but you'd be crazy not to spend the extra $5 a month for double speeds.

      • pls return your username.

        • +1

Feel free to use a $1.99 Kogan SIM for your internet or just utilise the 100% cashback deals and switch every 30 days. Capping upload speeds at max 5mbps to save a dollar a week is not a fun time.

  • +5

I had OCCOM for three years in an area where Opticom was the network provider. Speed and service were both very good. Then I moved to an NBN network area and the speed and service was extremely poor. Had to do around 50 speed tests at different times but no one at OCCOM was willing to accept that there was an issue. Eventually had to switch. Would not recommend them.

  • I just switched to leap tel for 60 a month

  • Does signing up for this service automatically terminate your existing service? Or do I need to tell superloop I need some space

    • You need to notify. It is possible to have multiple services at the same premises.

  • +1

Do I need a modem/router with the plan, I already have a optus modem and router would that work?

  • wait for feedback

  • +13

NBN can shove it. It’s a government funded utility, why can’t we have at least 25mbps plans for $20-$25 a month with a health care card or something?

    • +5

      Because it's capitalism! 🥰

    • +1

Tony Abbott and Mr. Created the Internet?

Sometimes when something gets stuffed up so bad it's not economical to fix it with minimal cost to consumer

    • +5

Sadly, had we got the original full-fibre network that was planned, we'd probably all now be discussing the choice of 100 Mbps to Gbps plans for fewer dollars than current offerings

But yes, thanks to the LNP who blew $40+ billion on the train wreck we now have, our grandkids will still be paying for this mess

      • -4

The NBN was an ill-conceived plan originally tabled - if not remotely spec'ed or costed for purpose - by the then Labor Government in 2009…

But, you know, damn those capitalist liberal bastards for not fixing it properly…

        • +2

Every proper assessment I've seen said it was relatively well planned. And I've seen nothing that would have suggested it would have been close to the massively expensive nightmare we ended up with. Experiences from other parts of the world showed the tech was on track, and with dropping implementation prices very feasible. The only negative I saw was the bogus LNP review they did when they came in to power with enough bias to sink the Titanic

But if you've got anything more independent and reliable than a quick slogan, I have no stake in this, and I'm happy to be convinced otherwise. Thanks

          • @surethang: That's a bit harsh. I'd have thought "everything I've seen" was a perfect match for "a quick slogan" in terms of reliability and independence! In any event, I was just stating a fact on the origins of the train wreck, not trying to sway anyone's political bent…

There were countless accounts at the time - and subsequently available online now - that will demonstrate what a woeful job both parties did of politicizing and bastardising an infrastructure rollout which would have been handled infinitely better by private enterprise. To portray the original Labor plan as blameless in terms of the technological and economic impact in the wake of the GFC is naïve and false.

Edit - I see that you've edited your original comment deleting "everything I've seen…", so let's not get caught up in this debate. You'll get no argument from me that both Labor and Liberal's original costings totally belied the true cost, so you I certainly agree that the original costings suggested nothing close to what it would become. Therein lay half the issue, when every original assessment indicated it could never be rolled out for a anything close to the original costing.

            • @UncleRico:

              just stating a fact

              Great. Let's see these facts.

If you're referring to the propaganda pushed by LNP and Murdoch media that was rampant at the time, that's not facts. And as I said, many of their claims haven't been born out from the rest of the world's experiences

If you've got an independent assessment of the issues with the Labor plan, I'd love to see it

If you exclude the obvious biased stakeholders, the general concensus is the opposite

              • @surethang: Oh dear. The only fact I stated was pretty clear, but I'll state it yet again, nonetheless - "The NBN was an ill-conceived plan originally tabled - if not remotely spec'ed or costed for purpose - by the then Labor Government in 2009". I apologise if it challenges your assertion that the planning and implementation of the NBN was a unilateral Liberal endeavour.

Your facts consist of "everything I've seen" and yet you come in here demanding to see my facts? Spare me. My years of employment compiling and vetting the budget estimates that were common knowledge on both sides of parliament and all aspects of the media cannot compete with the unbiased, unsourced opinions furnished by your university lecturers.

Honestly, I have no dog in this fight - I'll leave you be…

                • -1

@UncleRico: Just repeating a statement doesn't make it any more of a fact. I understand the assertion well. It's the attack Abbott, Turnball, Morrison, and the LNP used for years… right up until they dropped the false argument and started offering the full-fibre NBN connections that they'd been telling us for years were a terrible plan. Their real-world per-node installation figures achieved since show that Labor had reasonable estimates. This is well reported on. You can even view the NBN Co reports to see the costs. It's the same thing many other countries have been independently experiencing in their implementations.

So you're pushing claims that the people who originally made don't even stand by. Turnball has even acknowledged that the LNP overstated the supposed "real" costs by at least $10-$15 billion. Also, the LNP sneakily sat on a report made before they even started their multi-mix technology solution that shows they knew that the real full-fibre costs were nowhere near the bogus costs that they were claiming. They saw the ample early evidence that the installation costs were dropping, just as Labor had budgeted, and many others had independently shown. It was simply a deliberate deception by the LNP, and you're still buying in to it long after they've dropped it. Just Google NBN $10 billion secret.

These are just a few of the many things we'd have to magically ignore for the gist of your argument to have merit.

But let's say you're right and Labor got the costs wrong. We'd still have ended up with a cheaper, high-speed, world-class internet service that is far simpler and cheaper to maintain, instead of a system that is being replaced before it was even finished, and losing $40+ billion dollars, while we plunge down the world internet rankings. So any whataboutism claims are just lunacy.

                  • +1

@surethang: I don't really see how the Labor years of NBN are all that relevant.

The NBN we have is 90% Abbott and Turnbull's fault.
                    They had 3 options;
                    1) maintain the course for 93% full fibre
                    2) stop the project outright, sell off the small built portion and leave the rest up to private enterprise to build (which better suits the Political narrative of the Conservatives)
                    3) redesign the network as a MTM with all of its well understood downsides

They chose Option 3 freely of their own accord, keeping Labor's poorly conceived CVC pricing structure, future price rises (despite the designed inability of the MTM network to support accompanying speed increases), Off-Budget Accounting and the Intention to sell NBNCo (ignoring it's significantly reduced future valuation due to the design downsides of MTM).
To argue that the NBN we have today is anything but Turnbull/Abbott's "vision" is to deny reality.
The vast majority was (re)designed and built under their watch.

    I am with Superloop.

Just signed ip with this provider throught their website. I was not asked which provider I am with, and when I would want the connection/transfer starts.

    • 20 hours later, my service with Superloop was disconnected. The (Optus) Sagemcom Gateway F@AST 5366 that used to work with Superloop is not working with the new connection from OCCOM, and neither the ZTE Home Gateway ZXHN H268A which works with Exetel. It looks like I need to buy another modem from OCCOM!

      • The (Optus) Sagemcom Gateway F@AST 5366 that used to work with Superloop

You need to enter the PPoE login details

Try this to see if you can access the admin login of the Sagemcom

How fast do they cut you over once signed up? I’m with spintel. Do they sort out cancellation of the other mob seamlessly or do I need to contact them?

    • I was thinking the same. what's the procedure? I guess call OCCOM to find out.

  • +4

Great deaI. I recently had TPG increase my 50/20 plan an extra $5, to $74.99 a month.

  • Just signed up with more 250nbn so will see in 12 months. Think 250 for under 90 is a great price for now but 100 for 70 is also good

    • where are you getting 250 for 90?

      • More Telecom CBA Deal

  • We are one of the lucky ones getting upgraded from FTTN to FTTP. Wondering if OCCOM support the fibre upgrade? anyone know before jump on a chat with them?

  • Is this available on HFC?

      Yes.

  • Does occom use

    IPoE (DHCP / Automatic IP)?

    • According to other comments here, it's an extra $10/month for static IP. They use dynamic/DHCP by default.

      • Do you need to enter your username and password in the router settings?

        • PPoE, user name and password will be provided by Occom

  • OCCOM advertised they have special Chinese game server tunnel (premium line). I am trying to understand what are the benefits of this service. https://occom.com.au/zh/premiumline/

    • To play games with friend back in China on lower ping, better BGP for this line, less routes

    • it says there in chinese.

    • for chinese students or other asian migrants that like to play pubg lol or similar games that connect to chinese servers. leads to lower ping and packet loss with better routing.

    • same? ive only got no locked in contract $64 for 50/20

    • Yeah same here. I switched my 50/20 TPG NBN to the 100/20 5G and have had nothing but dramas from day one with the sign up process and now having constant drop outs during the day.

    • Same here. Not seeing any of the listed 24 month contract prices.

    • Same, no discount at all.

  • Feel reluctant t to change to these budget Nbn plans. In the past been with mungi and whatever else that went bust. Lately left mates because they went down hill. Not sure if it’s worth the headache… but that price is tempting.

  • Why is this price any special? I have been with Flip NBN at the same price for a year now. Earlier I was with Superloop for a long time, again at the same price. Several providers offer $69/month for a 100/20 plan. Most providers don't charge any activation fee whatsoever irrespective of how long you stay with them.

    • +1

      because 24 months…. 50/20 $54.88 per month
yes i know you will say just pay a bit more, but at 54.88 for 24 months this is the cheapest of the cheapest right now. again, 24 not 6

  • Well that deal was short lived!

Dear valued customers and OzBargain members:

Thank you very much for your interest and trust in Occom services.

We noticed that many customers have registered with Occom with is special promotion code tonight. In our promotion page we clearly indicates that this offer referring to nbn 'Light Up' promotion and applies to eligible addresses only. Unfortunately, most of the registrations Occom received tonight are not in the eligible address list from NBNCo . • +1

I'm telling you, these guys are decent. I remember when I signed up to their 50mbps plan more than a year ago, 1 month into the plan, I noticed they are offering a 5 or 10 dollar discount to new sign ups to their 100mbps, I went in chat and told them I'm just one month in and if they can give me that discount and upgrade me to 100mbos and guess what they did! Mind you I was and still am bound to their 24 month contract because I did not want to pay the activation fee so they could have easily said no, but they just wanted a happy customer.

    • so if our address is eligible then how to get that deal?
and where is the list of the adresses?

      • Please feel free to check your address with our online/phone support team, we are more than happy to provide this promotion to those who are eligible.

As for a self-serve registration page of this promo, we will need some more time to fine-tune the details and registration process. We will let you all know about it once it's live again in the near future. :-)

        Thanks!

      • @chimot: Based on the NBN Co will begin the new year with a fresh round of discounts aimed mostly at getting fixed-line users to vacate the 12Mbps tier, in line with a recent push to set 25Mbps as its new minimum speed. Do you fall into this catagory?.

        • not sure i am noob i just know i am with crappy FTTN in my area, and now with belong 30/15 something like that. the grandfather starter plan

          • +1

@CyberMurning: In that case you do know now i.e. you are already on 30/15 which is moved off the 12/xx tier so would not have been eligible ;-)

    • So it was too good to be true

  • +1

    Some more information:

Is there any contract term or Early Termination Fee applied to P22M24?
    - No. Customers successfully signed-up for this offer will be under no lock-in contract and the discounted monthly fee will last for maximum 24 months. (Though we do have 30-day notice prior to any cancellation request). There is no any Early Termination Fee applies.

Will my current service be automatically cancelled if I have activated a nbn service with Occom?
    - No, you need to contact your current Internet service provider to cancel your service, otherwise it may keep charging you.

Do I have to get a static IP for $10 per month if I would like to opt-out from CGNAT?
    - No, we can assign a dynamic public IP to your service and it is cost-free. The $10 will only be applied when you need a STATIC public IP.

    • "Will my current service be automatically cancelled if I have activated a nbn service with Occom?
      - No, you need to contact your current Internet service provider to cancel your service, otherwise it may keep charging you."

what is that? some other provider will take over the service and straight away cancel the previous provider.
should be just like swapping electrical or gas, i think?

      • Service-wise yes, the service will be automatically churned to us once we place a connection order with NBN for HFC/FTTC/FTTN/FTTB services.

But for FTTP services, it will be a new service provisioned on the next available port on NBN NTD, then the existing service would not be automatically terminated if you didn't contact the previous provider.

Hence we always advise our customer to do this to make sure that they are not double billed should anything goes wrong with billing side of things. Hope this answers your question, thanks!

      • @chimot: Nope, as many ISP accounts systems are not linked live so letting them know ensures that they are across that you moved and they in turn they update their accounts systems. Most are fine though and know but is a general courtesy. It will note this is T&Cs where applicable.

        • thanks. i remember now that case usually applies for FTTP, i am still with FTTN but yes agree better safe than sorry

I did signup but didnt revieve any email and now it says expired. Can i reapply for this offer?

  • Hey guys ,
Just a question I just got opticomm 250/25 with Aussie broadband. It’s only been 4 days and I have been in contact with Aussie broadband regarding the speed and browsing issues. On my Samsung tvs it only plays YouTube . Netflix , Amazon prime or any other streaming service won’t open. Internet speed is also not right. Called Aussie broadband regarding it they reckon nothing wrong on their end might be opticomm issue. So just waiting for opticomm to get back to me. Just wondering if anyone here knows anything about it .

it could be so many things, firstly check your wifi speed, try connecting to both 2.4 & 5ghz bands and try different channels, use something like inssider to see if there is interference from other wifi networks (likely if you live in a high density area) post some speed test results speedtest.net
