Get 5% Extra Value on Woolworths Supermarket Promotional eGift Cards @ Woolworths Gift Cards

2520

This popular deal is back for a limited time only!

Some tips:

  • If you do not see the bonus 5% value added to a gift card when you add it to the cart, do not worry. The bonus 5% value will be applied to your gift card after you purchase it.

  • In my experience, the Woolworths Supermarket Promotional eGift Cards is only redeemable at Woolworths and Woolworths Metro. I have attempted to redeem it at Dan Murphy’s, EG and BIG W, and have only ever received error messages on EFTPOS terminals (and confused reactions from staff members).

  • This offer cannot be combined with any offer from a partner portal (e.g. automotive clubs, Student Edge, Entertainment Book), as the Woolworths Supermarkets Promotional eGift Card is a special type of gift card that is not sold on partner portals. If you attempt to access the webpage selling the Woolworths Supermarkets Promotional eGift Card whilst you are logged into a partner portal account, you will be asked to log out of your account before you can access the page.

    5% additional face value = $5 off $105 = 4.76% off

    • -7

dunno why this deal so popular then,,

      • +12

If you're spending hundreds, if not thousands, at woolworths anyway why not get free money?

    • could you explain why you are doing "$5 off $105" when you are paying only $100 to get $5?

      • +1

They use formula discount = bonus / (1 - bonus), but they completely ignore they are basically getting money back that they will spend immediately next week, so from budgeting perspective bonus = discount.

        • +4

This disagreement on how to calculate the discount % creeps up all too often on this forum.

    • -1

Not really, if the bonus is some kind of money then bonus = discount. If I give you $100, and you give me $105 back, and I spend $100 regularly then my next shopping will be $95 instead of $100. Saving 5%. This assumes you shop at Woolies regularly but most of us do.

Your calculation works for things you cannot trade anymore. E.g. you buy 1l of soap for $10, and you get 0.05l of extra soap then you saved 4.76% as you cannot use the extra soap on whatever you want.

      • +4

Don’t overcomplicate things, this is simply the basic maths of the value of what you pay vs what you get…

      • You can't really ignore the extra $5 regardless of when you shop.

If my regular shop is $50, I can say that one stop cost me $45 so I saved 10% and the next was $55 with no savings but it doesn't really work like that.

    • 4 16/21 % off if we are getting specific  😉

  • +15

This is equivalent to a 4.761905% discount (approximately).

    • +1

      arent woolies gc regularly 5%?
edit- more like 4% reg now oops

      • +5

        I still get 5% discount with a senior's card.

        • +1

Can the senior card discount stack with this promotion?

          • @seniordoc: Any transactions made by members of a partner portal or corporate users registered with Woolworths Gift Cards are not eligible for this offer

          • @seniordoc: sure, in about 30 yrs (by judging your dp lol) m
            but good point ;)

How to Buy Discounted Woolworths Vouchers in 2022

          • @INFIDEL: Thanks for this. I have a relative that exclusively shops at Woolies that could take advantage of this.

Problem is, I think the process will just be far too confusing if I'm not there to do it for them each week

            • +1

@lancesta: I moved an elderly relative to discounted physical gift cards easily. He had been paying by cheque!

He had a carer do his shopping. Explained the limited value on the card meant fraud was less of an issue than cash or cheque. And the docket showed the remaining value. I bought the cards for him.

But egift cards would have been next to impossible - he refused to use a mobile.

What may be easy for most, some people may struggle with.
He was very upset when I moved him to a Rewards card - instead of receiving the 4c/l fuel discount on the docket.

Check it out as physical gift cards most likely will be available for Seniors!

Each State or area has different benefits for Seniors.
Doesn't seem available where I am, in QLD. But we received $175 towards electricity increase, plus Seniors get a rebate of $340/yr. And free dental, glasses, & off peak travel in some areas.

              • @INFIDEL: Thanks heaps for this, you make a lot of great points.

I might be giving my rello less credit than they deserve here then. Literally use their mobile more than I do but definitely needs help with it.

We got them ordering online during lockdown and that actually worked surprisingly well apart from the odd 3kg of apples instead of 3 kind of order (and others that were more expensive). They're just not all that frugal (unlike my grandma that got excited over savings).

I think the carer does the shopping now, so maybe this would work for that. Glad to hear the docket shows the value remaining, that would make it more simple. Probably if someone else buys the cards it should be attainable.

Do you know if they check the senior cards once the giftcards is bought or is that only for getting the card in the first place?

                • +1

@lancesta: Doubt the gift cards would be any different to normal, so not checked. But a carer using a Senior's gift card would not raise any suspicion.

The Senior would likely enter their Seniors Card number only when ordering. So could be done for them. Most likely it's a Govt portal accessing Woolies gift cards.

Even I can struggle sometimes using online grocery ordering! Only do it if get free delivery.

Had a small wallet for carer to take shopping with his shopping list (checked before leaving - so no mix up of quantity etc), gift card, & place for the receipt. Never had any problem.

                  • @INFIDEL: Thanks. Yeah she's got preferred products and stuff so has gotten into the habit of writing that down. The quantity thing happened online, just didn't really check prices when ordering. Got 3 $20 jars of Kalamata olives once lol.

                    • +1

@lancesta: Stores generally give credit for incorrect purchases like that - especially to established elderly customers.
He had a Woolies "Preferred Customer" card - which allowed him to pay by cheque.

Had to do a few returns - where the preferred product was substituted for the one on sale. Carer was trying to be helpful.
I love Kalamata olives, but $60 worth is a bit much.

Seems like you're doing a good job!
PM me if you have any questions.

                      • +1

@INFIDEL: Thanks that's great to hear they're supportive. You've got me reflecting on my own need to always know my account balance at, definitely wasn't always the case.

I think she didn't want to deal with the "stress" of returning it but I didn't hear about it unti I saw a large (already opened) jar in my fridge after my dad came back with it.

Thanks for all your help, I've passed it on so I'll have the conversation next time I'm over. I'll definitely hit you up if anything else comes to mind.

                        • +1

@lancesta: Woolies Money app shows current balance of gift cards. And points / $ on Rewards cards. Just add cards to app. Have multiple Rewards cards from family.

Most of my purchases are on points, or to gain bonus points. Got $130 Rewards points for less than $10 spend in a Deal!

Gone over to Coles with ShopBack Deals of up to 22% cashback on Coles egift cards!. Certainly better than other offers here.

        • how did you get 5% with senior card?
          thanks

      • Coles and Woolies dropped from 5% to 4% on most platforms, some were even straight up removed. I figured it was pandemic related. But yeah, anytime I see a 5% deal, I do jump at it 😅

    • It's 4.76190476190476%

      • 4 . 761904 761904 761904 761904 761904 761904 761904 … %

        or 4 16/21 %
(if you want to know where the denominator or 21 comes from, you'll have to ask me about 5 times… 🤪 )

I’m still rocking the 10% off through concierge Rewards when they come up on special promo. (Although they have recently added a credit card surcharge which can’t be avoided).

    • I can't see this anymore. Note that the old concierge page has been made obsolete with the new one direct off the good guys website, no credit card surcharge anymore and better percentage off for e-giftcards. No more physical ones that I can see though.

      • Does this mean no dealing with Pegasus group? They were criminals. Good riddance if so.

      • Link? Mine still goes to the same old page

    • +8
      • Thanks 😀👍

  • can I use with Woolies online?

    • Yes

    • +3

I was gonna ask the same thing. I think it’s Coles you can’t use online.

  • I get an error message: "The page you are looking for couldn't be found." when clicking the link.

    • Deal hasn't started yet, check OP.

  • +1

    Starts 9 am today

  • +4

Meh, in the last few years I stocked up on this kind of deal, but now that banks start paying interest again, it's hardly worth the effort any more.

    • +12

Recommend me a bank that gives a 3-month term deposit rate of 4.76%.

      • +3

        After tax too!

      • It is certainly a factor. The deal may attract less upvotes compared with two previous ones.

      • +6

Think Teri is just saying it’s not worth the effort to stock up on gift card for extra 1% savings (probably a little more with tax on interest rate). There are banks that give 3.5 or even 4% now.

Even with Hiver 5% stacking with 4% I wasn’t willing to stock a lot of gift cards when it ended. The “rational” thing to maximize savings would have been to max out the 5%, but that would have required me to buy 4k of gift cards. I personally do not want thousands of dollars locked up to a gift card.

        • +9

I think you missed my point.

Woolworths run the same promotion every 2-3 months or so. Aug 2022, June 2022 etc
So the smart way is to buy only what you need in the coming 3 months.
          That's 4.76% of savings for a 3 months period.

On the other hand, your bank only gives you 3.6% for a 1 year term deposit.
That's equivalent to 0.9% interest over a 3 months period.

Teri thinks it's too much effort to save 4.76%-0.9%= 3.86% over three months
that's not the OZB way. lol

          • +9

@TanedaR: Don’t consider term deposits to compare. You should really look at it as money taken away from your offset account for your home loan. Which might be around 4-5% now.

          • +5

@TanedaR: Teri probably has access to a 4% everyday discount so the only real savings here is 0.76% which is not worth stocking up on. Better returns in offsetting a mortgage.

But if you don't have access to a Woollies discounted gift card portal then yes this is a good deal.

            • @capslock: But buying smaller amounts of 4% gift cards regularly is more effort.

      • +2

The question really is effort vs. how much you save. A lot of factors come together here that over time add up to the point that it's not worth it for me any more. Personal situation, not the same for everyone. I didn't down-vote the deal, but it's not for me.

        The TL/DR:
There was a time, when rarely, but sometimes, Wish gift cards were to be had for 10% off, and interest rates were a lot lower than now. That's when it was worth the effort for me.

Then Wish gift cards were to be had always for 5% off via Entertainment card or cashback sites. A regular supply any time they were needed. I used them.

Now it's down to store specific cards, only sometimes.

At the same time the store has become a lot less attractive. I hardly buy from Woolies any more. In part to do with their general price levels, in part with the lacking quality of their specials (including bonus point offers), and even more: they are no longer on Pricehipster.

As a result, right now, I still have more than half of the gift cards I bought back in June. And believe me, they weren't many compared to past purchases.

  • Wonder if it will combine with the 4% discount from insurance or mobile?

    • No.

  • +1

Can I use this gift card to purchase the Ultimate gift card and score the 20x Rewards points?

    • it took me 3 mins to arrive

      • First one this morning took 3mins. I still haven’t got mine bought at 4pm AEDT

    • Depends on verification process. Normally within 30 minutes to a few hours.

Sometimes it can take longer if it require manual verification. The longest l had was 48 hours. This is why its important to buy during business hours so you can call the gift card customer service.

  • Payment didn't go through and my Wespac Altitude card just got blocked because of that! LOL!!

  • TCN MasterCard from Moccona Promo worked directly. ID checked via SMS to the phone number registered upon MasterCard activation.
