The only workaround is "time". You can alternate tap and pay b/w your card and your wifes card with different amount. System usually decline after like 7-8 taps per day.

And you also need to tap from Google Pay/Apple Pay to avoid Least Cost Routing.

And after 3-4 taps Google Pay will give you error that you need to get out of the app and go back in again to get it to work.

          • @samehada: Thanks mate, much appreciated.

          • @samehada: Hi again, I've added it to Apple pay and unlike Hiver, I don't see an option for the user to select between Visa/Eftpos.

I'm lucky all the transactions I made today were eligible for cashback(assuming it's categorised as Visa) and I've already received the bonus.

        • The only workaround is patience. Tapping your card multiple times in a short period of time can be an indication of someone trying to fraudulently use your card. I mean, if you accidentally dropped your wallet/purse and someone dishonest picked it up and lifted your HSBC card, the first thing they would probably do is go to a store and tap-and-go as many transactions as they can before the card issuer (or you as the cardholder) block the card.

I would also be careful with HSBC and the 2% cashback offer and this deal, as HSBC have written in their cashback terms and conditions that they will not provide cashback to you if they think you are not acting "within the intent and spirit of the cashback offering". (Refer to page 12 of the terms and conditions.) They could determine you are "abusing" the offer by putting through multiple $99 transactions in a short period of time to get around the $100-per-transaction limit. I'm not sure whether this is something that has actually happened to someone before, but it wouldn't overly surprise me if this has happened in the past…

            @WookieMonster: Thanks mate, much appreciated.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: I was warned by ING previously (back in the days of 5% paywave), in fact I was even booted off the promo verbally but my transactions still went through with cashback.

Also got a warning for making too many $200 withdrawals/day ($2200/day in $200 blocks)

    • You can buy the $100 ones, no need to split. But only one at a time.

      • +3

hsbc wants us to pay less than 100$, i.e. 99.99. So….

        • Yeah you have to split it. It does work. If you’re buying the $100 you may as well get the $250 as it’s already at about 7%

        • thanks all

          • +3

            @Techefy: 🖐️ $100 + $5 =$105 *0.9 = $94.50

The $100 card costs only $94.50, no need to split.

If only the $100 cards are available, you basically get the same discount, using the HSBC 2% back.

            • @shoppe: Oh man, thanks for that, I was in the mindset of cashbackking 😄

          • @Techefy: Let us know how u go w the splittin

    • sure you can, just select amounts just under $99 on the first two payments. I used mixed payment all the time to get my 5 card payments out of the way for ING (I do 5 x $0.01)

      • Thanks, just wanted to know whether splitting is allowed with gift card purchases

        • I can't see it would be any different to other purchases

Can you use these to BPAY your own account?

    • +1

Well if you have regiatered for bpay then maybe? I mean are you a business ?

      • Not at all :(

        • +7

Then you misunderstood what is bpay

  • Thanks, just in time to pay my ato tax bill.

    • It appears the card issuer may have blocked ATO ? Have been paying every day for the last 5 days but it’s declined today?

      • Ooo intersting. I completed all of my 100+ cards already.

      • I think this might be correct. I was about to finalise my ATO payments today and both through the ATO login and the Gov EasyPay my cards are being declined.

  • Can you use these on been it for bpay?

  • Good timing for the Pixel 7 Pro/Optus deal.

I normally wouldn't, but it'd be an easy $70 saving!

  • +2

Exactly What I needed to pay my taxes, good on me for not having paid my taxes in full yet.

And ready to spend all so not much chances of getting hacked hopefully.

    • Cc surcharge right?

      • Still better than paying direct cash

      • The surcharge to ATO is only 50c for $250 card, well worth it and less than for CC's.

        • +1

It appears the card issuer may have blocked ATO ? Have been paying every day for the last 5 days but it’s declined today?

  • +2

Can you call and block these until you’re ready to use them? With the old grey-colour cards, you could.

  • +1

Can you buy these using a credit card, or will it count as a cash advance?

    • +2

It will show up as a regular Coles purchase, your CC provider won’t know what you bought.

      • +1

        Many thanks!

      • Does that work for cash outs at the counter as well, or that is a cash advance?

    • +2

As far as your credit card is concerned you spent x dollars at Coles. They don't know if you bought cards from this deal, groceries, laundry supplies or anything else so it won't be a cash advance.

  • -3

Last time I bought these, i loaded them to Transferwise and then withdrew to my bank account. Easy peasy and much safer than leave it there to be hacked.

    • Didn't a few people have issues doing this? I think it was a case of it worked for a couple of cards and then there was a lockout period or subsequent cards weren't accepted by Transferwise.

    • how load to TW?

      • Means transfer or pay your own tw account

  • +4

    Really missing Hiver cashback.

Recently signed up and lasted only 1 month.

  • I've been lucky not to have the MC Gc's hacked.
Re scams; I wonder whether the Indian Call centres are aware of these Gc's! Tiktoc has them asking for Target GC's but poss. 'Target USA'.
Those who had cards hacked - were you able to determine how long it was after your purchase?

  • Can I use these to pay a credit card bill?

    • -1

      i wanna know too
such as BPaying the CC statement, etc
edit - seems like not online /

how about paying it at the postie??

  • Can I use multiple of these to pay a tax bill?

    • Yes. ATO accepts these.

    • +7

You can only redeem a maximum of 5 cards per day on the ATO online portal, although you can redeem another 5 cards per day via the Government EasyPay portal.

The ATO charges a 0.2% surcharge for payments from these Coles Mastercard gift cards, so the maximum amounts you can send are:

      • $99.80 from a $100 Coles Mastercard gift card
      • $249.50 from a $250 Coles Mastercard gift card
      • +1

Thanks for that! I think I'm going to give this a go (if I can find any cards LOL).

      • +1

Any tips on how to get rid of the remaining balance if it's less than $1?

          Split payment at supermarket

        • +1

If I'm not wrong, the remaining 20c/50c would go towards the surcharge and there would not be a remaining balance if you are paying the ATO

      • hi, can we use this one to pay centrelink debt ?

        • No idea!

        • +2

In case anyone else is searching this or if OP never tried, yes - can use it to repay a Centrelink debt and surprisingly the Centrelink payment portal didn't charge any additional card fees so it was a straightforward $250 card pays off $250 of debt.

          • @daanish: thanks, it did work for me as well…. i tried later but forgot to put it here. … i had collected centrelink debt for over 3 years and sorted all out now.. with 7% discount as well… !

i was going to pay $100 per month to the suckers forever but then decided to keep it clean as i wasn't sure if it impact my credit rating as i was trying look for property in next year (if i can afford obviously).

  • can you purchase these cards with visa/mastercard giftcard?

  • Time to go treasury hunting these hidden gift cards in the freezer isle

    • +1

For you to know this…. Either you've hid it there or you've found it there!

      • Nah it's well known to be Ozbargain's favourite hiding spot in Coles

  • Thanks OP

  • +3

Umm, I am shocked. So there is a pattern of some of these cards getting hacked and Coles hasnt fixed the issue or more importantly, havent come to the party with a quick and efficient method of refunding / providing replacement credit / cards to the customers with hacked cards. If its a known issue, Surely they are liable to fix the problem.. Surely they cant be selling a product with the idea that a certain percentage of cards will be hacked and the customer has to take that risk everytime they buy the card?

    • +1

not only that, Ozbargain shouldn't be promoting these kind of deals or allowing these deals to be posted. For new members, this leaves a bad impression that deals are being advertised here that will result in hassle & stress.

      • Yes thats true, especially if its a known issue that the company hasnt really resolved and even worse paid back the customers that were rorted.

        • what percentage gets hacked?

          • +4

@capslock janitor: First time compromised from my sample size, 3% (from combined 100 cards)
Second time compromised, 15% (from 20 cards)

            Seems like it's getting higher.

      • Same could be said for EDR points offers. Such a high rate of fraud in that program

        • +1

Id say based on what Ive been reading EDR points are being refunded if youve been hacked? Ie. Woolworths is taking responsibility

        • OH really? I didnt realise EDR accounts were being hacked.

    • +3

probably coles isn't in the position of 'fixing' this shit? i assume any prepaid cards, no matter sold by coles woolies or aldi would be hacked the same way? the way i see it, visa/mastercaed got to stop this fiasco of letting prepaid cards be used online without the cvc

      • True, although Coles being the retailer / name on the card, its up to them to put pressure on their supplier to fix the issue. We cant really contact Mastercard to fix it as its a Coles provided card. At least thats usually what i have been told in terms of rights of the customer. You need to contact the seller and its up to them to resolve the issue for you and then work it out with their supplier.

  • Mount druitt store has none left. Probably also hidden somewhere.

    • No stock left in Roselands either.

  • Can Flybuys dollars be used on these?

  • +1

My local’s $250 ones already all “disappeared” lol, only the $100 ones left.

    • probably for a good reason aka staff to put them aside behind counter hopefully

    • Did you ask for a raincheck?

  • +2

Can Coles gift cards be used as a payment method to buy these Mastercard gift cards?

I have successfully done it in Woolies, never tried at Coles.

    • How did you do it in woolies?
