YouTube Premium: Individual TRY ₺29.99 (~A$2.57), Family TRY ₺59.99 (~A$5.14) @ YouTube Turkey (VPN Required to Sign Up)

8080

If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze (albeit a slightly higher cost monthly), especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address - took me like 10 seconds).

Google is increasing the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan etc. This means Argentina is no longer the cheapest and most OzBargainers will be migrating from Argentina other countries.

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

Notes

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

    Worked for me.

Just hit cancel and then renew and the currency will be in TKR.

  • Is there any point to Youtube premium if you have adblocker and don't use any android or ios devices?

    • +1

A few days ago I heard YT plan to provide 4k and higher for only premium user in the future.

    • +1

if you use YT only on a browser, there is zero point to get premium. I need it cos I watch a lot of YT on my Android TV

        Use SmartTubeNext for Android tv.

        • Yeah Ive been testing it in the past couple of days, maybe it's matter of getting used to it, but I still prefer the original app tbh

      • Yeah most people use phone and TV as well.

Zero point not too get it at this price!

  • Using Windscribe -

Was with 28 Degrees and MacQuarie. Spent over an hour trying India and now Turkey :/

    • I have same error with 28 degrees on both India and Turkey haha

I don't have my citibank card with me atm but will try it out tomorrow.

      • Just to add that I am trying to transfer a family account from Argentina so I can save all my history/likes etc., and not have to create a new profile (and new family etc, as that is a pain in the ass - last time I had to have each child on a VPN to join the family as well, and they won't want to create new profiles and lose their history either).

Didn't work with ING with either India or Turkey. Also didn't work with Commonwealth on Turkey.

I added a Google pay profile with my Turkish address as well.

All just frustration and wasted time so far.

        • Reading the deal for youtube premium India, family plan won't work at all.

Turkey Family should work with ING from what I've read.

        • +1

I finally got it to work on Turkey Family Plan with 28 Degrees card!

You need to create new payment profile in Turkey with the 28D card before trying to pay for the family plan.

          • @CodeXD: With your payment profile, did you use a Turkish address for yourself, and your Australian address for the Credit card?

I did try adding the profile too but it didn't work.

I ended up going back to Argentina paying 2.5 times the previous price.

            • @Maltopia:

At the top where it says:

              Payments Profile for Google Pay

If you have Turkey profile, choose it, if not, go down to Payment profile and create one.

              • Then go to payment methods and add your card in here, you do NOT need to input any address for Turkey payment. If you already have the card you want in there, click remove. If it asks you to input a card to replace it, just type in the same card number again.

              • Finally, go back to Youtube Premium Family and try to pay. Enter CVC and click Pay. It should process correctly now.

I did it all in incognito mode but I don't think it matters that much.

              • @CodeXD: May try that & already have a turkey payment profile. Currently on single via Argentina with no option to upgrade to family. I've got a turkey payment profile but address in Argentina so may as well delete the address.

Is it easy enough to add the family members later as long as VPN on when they accept email invite, don't want to install VPN on their devices.

Probably easier to set up in AU with a new email and add everyone including my primary one I guess then sub to yt premium turkey.

Otherwise may just change to individual India and not worry about it all.

              • @CodeXD: So Addresses can be blank in the Turkish payment profile, but when you add a card to payment method it asks for an address (would have to be the Australian address for that card)?

          • @CodeXD: I cancel old one and renew from here https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships with VPN unlimited chrome extension, family plan and no need to enter new address just asked for credit card, all gone through and no change to existing memeber

            • @superforever: So because I tried to VPN to India first, it set that as my payment method, even for Turkey youtube premium family. Which just kept failing.

These steps won't be applicable to everyone, but it worked for me.

              • @CodeXD: Just remember, no need to remove every single profile to make it work. I have 4 different payment profiles (4 different countries) on my account right now. As long as you have it - then it should work

    • Sometimes it's the VPN that gives the issue as well and a different VPN may work. Sometimes turning VPN on or off, or mucking around with the payment site. I've done way too much testing previously and have encountered your issues, and managed to bypass them by mucking around.

    • Today I started a family group, created a Turkish payment profile, then cancelled my current Russian individual premium membership.

Used Surfshark VPN for Turkey, and then signed up to a family premium account using 28 degrees.

Worked ok in that order for me.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Worked for me changing from Argentina to Turkey on a Family plan. Didn't even ask for a Turkish address either. Using ING card.

    • Didn't ask for address as well. Individual account.
$25.98 showing as pending on my Ubank account.

    • How did you get it to change across?

      • Followed the updated process in the OP. Ridiculously simple to go from Argentina to Turkey.

        • Yeah I just did it. Thanks

    • No worries and enjoy :)
Mine didn't ask for address either. Whole process took like 10 seconds lol

  • +1

Successful via NordVPN. Took a while however I realised that VPN number 49 I believe showed the currency in Lira whereas every other number displayed the currency in GBP.

Got stuck at payment processing hence switched to Incognito and did the trick

    • +1

The one that worked for me was #52. I didn't get the Lira one but the others did the GBP thing as well.

  • Thanks OP. Already had an existing family that I transferred over to Turkey. Worked with my 28 Degrees.

  • Your request failed. Use a different payment method, or contact us. Learn more [OR-CCSEH-21]

    • I had that error once with Google One

Pushed it and it eventually worked

    • Im getting same error. Did you try to do india first then try this?

  • How do you get a family member access?

Do they have to have YouTube through a VPN in the same country?

    • Are the members in the same Google family atm? Or have you not invited them yet

  • +1

Thanks OP, signed up to Family. Does anyone know if there's any issues when adding family members? Do they have to set their addresses to Turkey before accepting the family invite?

    • Glad to hear! Have you tried adding any yet? Let me know

    • +1

Have to be in the same country, so add everyone and get them to accept whilst in Australia before changing countries (or changing to premium). Still don't know how you can add more users after that, maybe make some spare emails up first?

  • +1

Finally stopped being lazy and did it! Super easy! Didn't need to put my address in either. Thanks a lot! Good instructions.

  • India still works for me. Has for years. I also changed my card a couple of weeks ago with no issue.

    • Glad it worked for you. Didn't work for 99% of us on the family plan. Only works for Individual prepaid monthly/yearly plans AFAIK

      • Maybe I got in before they updated something? I'll know for sure on the 1st I guess. My family has "lived" in India for 3.5 years now. Really don't want to move…

  • +1

Thank OP, moved from Argentina to Turkey.

  • Does doing this change your recommendations?

    • Mine hasn't, as for main Youtube I'd say no. Maybe for music initially, but will update to your music taste after a while

  • winscribe gave me CZK 179.00/month

    • Keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY

Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

      • Got it with VPN unlimited chrome extension.

When I go to https://www.youtube.com/premium instead of existing https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships. I have option to pay individual annual plan TRY 299.99

Family plan only have monthly TRY 59.99 and renewed and no need to enter fake address, all existing memeber still the same, no need to change.

But not sure why asked for credit card again, already have it in the google pay method.

    Many thanks OP
work without issue on my free WindScribe VPN

MIgrating from ARG to Turkey as per others.

I joined Argentina 3 weeks ago it was like 119 ars a month and got email today saying it's gone up to 389 ars which is just over $4 so I cancelled.

  • Swapped no worries. Question though, has anyone managed to add some family members who weren’t able to be added due to being in “different locations”. Any fixes, aside from creating a new google account?

    • That used to be a problem too with Argentina sub. I'll give some fixes you can try in a sec

      • Invite family members as per usual, and when the other person accepts the invite, try accepting it with VPN on. If that fails, turn VPN off and then try again.

Let me know how that goes

      • Unfortunately still isn’t working. Even tried creating a Turkish payment profile

    • To add family this worked for me
      1. Send family member invite
      2. Ask family member to create the payment profile with the same address as the host using VPN
      3. Host must have only one payment profile
      4. Join the Invite using VPN
      5. Family member can then remove the payment profile once added to family

      • I can't imagine my folks doing all that so cancelled premium (was on individual Argentina).. send invites to AU family.. they've joined so about to renew the premium sub once i turn on VPN. should be all i hope. My Payment profile could be argentina still

Members shouldn't need to pay at all that's tht point of it (but assume you're saying if already in a diff country)

        • No the members don’t pay but need to have the payment profile added to their account. In my case I had already signed up for premium plan so I had to follow this method to get family members added to the group.

          • @FreebieChaser: i've added to my group before changing to turkey premium.. i thought that should work now and they don't need to do anything, or am i missing something?

  • I am getting this error with both India and Turkey: "Your request failed. Use a different payment method, or contact us. Learn more [OR-CCSEH-21]"

    Any idea why? Thanks

    • +2

I had that error once with Google One. EVentually worked

Thank you ,, It finally worked now :-)

  • +1

Perfect! Took a bit of effort but finally got this to work, Family Plan on 28 Degree card. I think would have worked straight away if I didn't try India first.

    • Since I tried to do the India method first, my Turkey payment was trying to go through that payment method and kept failing.

The trick is to connect to Turkey VPN, make sure you create a Turkey payment method before paying. If it is trying to use India payment method it will 100% fail with this error:

"Your request failed. Use a different payment method, or contact us. Learn more [OR-CCSEH-21]"

  • +1

Updated OP to explain things better

  • Everytime I hit pay it says failed - secure my account.

    Any idea to fix?

    • Me too! Were you able to fix this?

      • +1

Yeah, I was! Use an Incognito browser to sign into YouTube.

  • Sorry, how to get Turkey VPN? New in this VPN thing, unsure how to do it pls? Thanks

    • Try adding free Windscribe Chrome extension into Chrome. Create an account and login & select country as Turkey, Istanbul server to connect.

  • Where's DisabledUser388768?

  • +1

Thanks, just bought the yearly individual membership x 2. Used a new google account, Hong Kong credit card, Windscribe and didn't have to enter a Turkey address.

  • +1

Thanks for the post OP. Got premium though Turkey without address but charged my card $2.62

    • +1

prices fluctuate due to exchange rates. Enjoy :)

  • Great! Worked for me following the instructions, had to turn windscribe on/off to get turkey lira. Let's hope this lasts!

  • I cancelled mine

$1.5 a month was okay for something I rarely use.

$2.5 a month when I probably use once a week or fortnightly is too much.

Can I ask why people want this? Is it just to skip the ads?

    • +1

Can I ask why people want this? Is it just to skip the ads?

Play in background and youtube music

    • +3

Yes I think it’s worth it even if you only watch 1-2 times a day, particularly for family with several users. YouTube has inserted more and more ads to the videos and I found it almost unbearable whenever I had to watch something without a Premium account these days.

However if you hardly use YouTube and don’t mind the ads too much then it’s probably not worth it for you.

      • Exactly this. It’s very beneficial for many others like myself who has a family of 6 members in the group

        • Did you use a difference account or your main a/c on your phone to subscribe or accept invite? I found it did affect Google Play Store, Aussie apps didn't show up, some won't allow to install.

          • @superforever: I subscribe to all my services on the main account. I have 4 different country profiles on my main

            • @I Smell Pennies:

I have 4 different country profiles on my main

Do you have problem search or install apps on your phone ?

Some app have location restriction like Stocard won't allow to install.

              • @superforever: My family does not use android so it does not affect us. It does affect one person of the family group whose only profile is in Australia, but that isn’t a problem for us

    • +1

Skip the ads while still giving something to the creators.

Also the ability to play audio only with the screen off is handy.

  • Can confirm that this worked with my 28 Degrees card.

Note that I entered the card details when requested, but I did not provide my address. I just clicked to continue and - luckily - it accepted my card!

  • VPN worked & Got in TRY. Declined all my cards for year/individual.

    Anyone have same issue?

  • Youtube took my payment but premium didn’t activate, anyone have similar issues?

  • Has anyone got the Premium feature removed from an account in the family subscription? Like many I used a burner account as the family organiser, and added my main account to the family. However after a while my main account no longer has the premium no matter what I tried. Had to replace it with another burner account to get the premium back currently.

    • How is it a burner email if you have to keep it (to be the admin?), Wouldn't you still need it to log on?

Wondering if should let main single account premium sub lapse, change county to au, convert to family, add members, change to Turk? It's odd my account doesn't see an option to change to family now.. prob not the end of the world starting a new one, just add the sub channels again?

May as well get fam for an extra dollar if Argentina is going to be $4

  • +1

    Thanks

  • +1

Had India subscription before. Cards declined. Moved to Turkey now. All good. Thanks OP! Used my NAB debit card.

  • +1

Today I learned the currency symbol for the Turkish Lira is the same as the Japanese hiragana character "mo".
    Thanks OzBargain.
