YouTube Premium: Individual TRY ₺29.99 (~A$2.57), Family TRY ₺59.99 (~A$5.14) @ YouTube Turkey (VPN Required to Sign Up)

8080

If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze (albeit a slightly higher cost monthly), especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address - took me like 10 seconds).

Google is increasing the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan etc. This means Argentina is no longer the cheapest and most OzBargainers will be migrating from Argentina other countries.

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

Notes

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

How does this work after I signed up Family Plan@Turkey?

  • +1

I had similar issues with various cards being declined in the past and I used this work around:

Set up a Turkish payment profile here -https://pay.google.com/ for the Google account you are using prior to trying to sign up for YT Premium.

One this is setup then proceed to the signup page and it will automatically use your Turkish payment profile info to complete the transaction (you may need to enter card CVC for re-verification).

    • How does this work do you just set a turkish address as your default, what card are you using?

      • +1

        Yes, Macquarie

    • +1

Thanks mate. This worked for me.

  • +1

Try YouTube India but using a Turkish VPN location and address. For some reason the Turkey location didn’t require credit card verification, so it went through ok. But I got the cheaper India price.

    • I'll try that now! Is that on family or individual??

How did you choose a Turkey address when the state dropdown box only shows Indian states??

    • +2

      It doesn't work for me.

Connected to Turkey VPN, changed youtube location to India, still shows Turkey pricing.

  • +3

Or just get Brave Browser and then download Youtube Vance for your phone.

  • +1

Thank you OP for posting this with instructions on how to transfer from another country.

    Laughs in Argentinian.

      Laughs in check your email…

  • +3

Has anyone transferred with a Family plan? Just wondering do you need to go through the process of setting up the family group again after you move locations?

    • Yep, I was wondering the same…

    • +5

I just did. Cancelled my family plan by following the steps in the post. Very straight forward. No need to set up the family again.

      • Great thanks for letting us know.

      • I just did the same. Just follow the steps above and it works no issue whatsoever. I previously had it setup in Thai Baht (so about $12/month for family) but $AUD 5 via Turkey is just too good to pass up.

  • Any free VPN option?

    • +1

      Windscribe

Does this offer anything over using YouTube vanced?

    • Free YT music

    • +2

For me, it's just ultimate convenience and support for creators. At this point, a few bucks a month to have full access to ad free experience on ANY device I use, combined with the fact creators actually get supported through me using it, I'm down to pay it.

Also, let's not forget Google has been actively trying to take down Vanced, so it's a bit of a cat and mouse game that you can fully get out of for just a few bucks.

      • -1

Wait a sec, if you truly into supporting the content creators, should you be paying the full Australian pricing instead of this cheap Turkish pricing?

        • +1

YouTube Premium membership fees are split between the creators a member watches based a percentage of their total watch history and behavior that month.

          • @CodeXD: Then what is he on about paying this subscription to support the creators?

            • +2

@edfoo: Anything is better than nothing tho right? Since YT premium AU is so expensive, most people won't get it, so content creators won't get any. This way content creator and viewer wins.

              • @CodeXD: Exactly. Also, an important thing to note is that even with shitty Turkish pricing, creators are likely to end up being paid more than an ad supported viewer. This has been extensively researched; ad supported users give VERY little to creators compared to Premium views

              • @CodeXD: But if he is so adamant about supporting the creators, should pay the full Australian fee. Otherwise people shouldn’t keep using that reason to justify subscribing via Turkey or India YT.

                • +1

@edfoo: There are other ways to support content creators. Something like being a channel member or donating directly to the creator (this way 100% will go to creator and nothing goes to google/youtube)

                  • -1

@Confabulatron: So you think Google should provide YT service free of charge to you and other content creators,, and you can still get paid for the number of views, but all the ads should be blocked, denying Google the advertisement revenue to help pay for running this expensive YT service? Now doesn’t that concept sounds thick and dumb?

                      • +1

@Confabulatron: Nope, not accepting your point. Saying to pay for a sub to avoid the ad is fine. But claiming to “help” out the creators by paying a cheap sub fee, while “abusing” the system to deny Google their fee, just make you a hypocrite.

        • I'm not doing it to solely support creators. I'm doing it to block ads primarily across all my devices. If this means creators get SOMETHING instead of nothing by me constantly using adblock, it's a plus for us all.

OP asked if there was any benefit to buying premium. I'm giving the reasons. Pretty obvious.

    • I’ll cheers my kebab to that!

  • +1

Plus the Turkish economy is in shambles and there's a reasonable chance the Lira will get increasingly favourable exchange rates.

    • +1

"Lowering interest rates is deflationary" - Erdogan, probably

  • Possible to add extra photo storage to this?

    • +2

You can't add it but you can get it separately from this deal

      • Thanks!

  • I’ve got the Indian deal, so just a question on the blocking of cards. Are they blocking cards on new signups or blocking exisiting aswell?

  • I do have surfshark but so once i get the account, do i have to be connected to turkey or india vpn all the time or whenever i use youtube?
it will hamper the browser experience for others….

so, how about i make somebody in turkey or india make a new account, ask them to pay from there and use that account here, will it work?

    • do i have to be connected to turkey or india vpn all the time or whenever i use youtube?

      No

how about i make somebody in turkey or india make a new account, ask them to pay from there and use that account here, will it work?

      Yes, will work still

  • +3

    Thanks, super straight-forward.

I just downloaded UrbanVPN for free to desktop, set it up to Turkey and renewed without having to change address/do anything special. Easy.

  • India still works for me, last month was $2.61AUD

Was going to say what bank I'm with but don't want to jinx it 😅

    • +1

      Which bank?

  • 5$ a year or, hmmm might just invest in a android device and shove in a pie.

  • +1

Would this work using (AUD) Google Play gift cards? I'm guessing the answer is going to be a no, but I guess no harm checking.

    • +1

You can try it and let us know.

  • -1

    it's free, iykyk

  • Connected to several Turkish servers via nordVPN price in pounds $19.99 a month for family.

    • Same here. What are we doing wrong?

      • Use free Windscribe Chrome extension.

I'll remove NordVPN from OP as I can confirm from my side it's not working either

        • Tried Windscribe Free via Chrome.

Got CZK first, then when went incognito, went back to Pounds. This is frustrating.

          • @macmine: I got it showing TRY through windscribe. DM me if you want to go halves

          • +2

@macmine: Disconnect, then reconnect and refresh the YT premium page. I had the same issue but worked the second time round

            • @allegiance86: Yep, this is the solution. I tried turning Windscribe on and off a couple of times. First time it was CZK, then became TRY. I was on an incognito browser window the second time. I used my Up bank card. Like some others, it did not ask a specific address.

          • @macmine: Nevemind it keeps declining my card… Can't complete the annual sub purchase. So I'm giving up.

          • @macmine: Keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY

      • I've tried 5 different servers now. £19.99 even in incognito.

      • +1

Reconnecting multiple times in NordVPN worked for me eventually (Turkey #62).

Was seeing pounds before I got to #62.

Some of the NordVPN servers must be known to Google and they know you're not a legitimately in Turkey…

        • This was the key I think, a mate was seeing UK still.
I didn't even need to put in an address

        • Confirming I just used NordVPN Turkey #62 for this too. Worked fine, no address required. Paid using wise digital card

    • try UrbanVPN and clear all ur cookies

  • Luckily I'm still with India youtube premium.
Last time my NAB debit card expired and I tried to update payment information to new expiry date(same card number but expiry date and cvc changed) but failed. So I gave up, however, a few days later google took my money from new card and still works! I have no idea… I used Surfshark VPN.

Last 3 months foreign currency is increased a lot.
Google took my money $3.39 on Aug, $3.55 on Sep and $3.85 on Oct…
5% increased Aug to Sep and 8.5% increased Sep to Oct… How about Nov?

    • Can I be in your family???

      • Sorry already full squad of my family.

      • got a spot for $20 edit: per year

    • +1

Yeah, I'm still on the India one as well. They kept asking me to do a manual transaction before a certain date, which I didn't.

They're still taking the $2.59 so I guess it's still on.

      • Yeah, I had the same email. Fingers crossed.

    • ughhhhh i just cancelled my India membership because i thought it wouldn't work…

  • +1

thanks op. easy peasy. just moved from argentina to turkey.

    windscribe vpn. family plan.

  • +2

    Student plan is TRY 19.49

    • Thank you! Will add to OP

    • Confirmed, used Windscribe in case it makes a difference.

    • can you choose student plan and does it verify anything?

      • They do use SheerID to verify student status, yes.

Pretty funny as SheerID being international allows you to verify as an Australian student for the Turkish student discount, but no, probably no workaround for non-students unfortunately.

  • Signed up to youtube premium using Google pay

  • +2

Strange. I turned on Turkey VPN and signed up, YouTube showing one month free trial and TRY ₺29.99 afterward. When I entered my credit car detail, it did not ask me for a Turkey address?

    • +1

Same and it just allowed me to go through lol.

    • +1

Me too! No address needed, it was easy.

    • Yup :) Enjoy

  • +1

Every card I have tried it says "We couldn't complete this action"
I did try with India first and got refused with all of them too, maybe all my cards now are on high alert or something and are refusing international payments? Not sure.
    Anyone experiencing the same issues?

    • Have a read of the comments in the Youtube Premium India post - basically you mostly need a bank card thats verified by an Indian bank- or its Upbank or 28 degrees card. It's not working on most people's cards.

      • 28 Degrees not working for me on India or Turkey.

        Other cards not working either.

    • Yes 2 of my cards declined. Error ending with _32

    • Sometimes it's the VPN that gives the issue as well and a different VPN may work. Sometimes turning VPN on or off, or mucking around with the payment site. I've done way too much testing previously and have encountered your issues, and managed to bypass them by mucking around.

      See this thread also: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/710753

      • I tried with 2 differnet VPN…it could be all the requests to the cards have hit some kind of red flag after trying in India.
        Ill try again tomorrow tahnks

      • +1

Tried a day later, it all worked well, confirming that likely my cards were just stuck because of multiple requests form different countries in a shot time.

        • Good to hear and thanks for reporting back!
