YouTube Premium: Individual TRY ₺29.99 (~A$2.57), Family TRY ₺59.99 (~A$5.14) @ YouTube Turkey (VPN Required to Sign Up)

8080

If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze (albeit a slightly higher cost monthly), especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address - took me like 10 seconds).

Google is increasing the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan etc. This means Argentina is no longer the cheapest and most OzBargainers will be migrating from Argentina other countries.

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

Notes

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

        • I downloaded the desktop version and it worked. Pretty smooth

          • @hohoisme: Nope - I downloaded the desktop version, connected to Turkey, opened the incognito tab and got the exact same error again.

EDIT - I can't add a "payment method" for any of my cards, even with everything set to Australia and the VPN off. I think it's all broken for me.

            • @MrGareth: I FINALLY got it - my on the payment method page, after multiple attempts I managed to get my NAB debit card added (using VPN connected to Turkey).

I was then able to go back to the Youtube page, which then had the payment details already there and I only had to put in the 3 digit security number.

              I'm on!!!

  • Thanks for the instructions, setup and working well.!

Only thing I've noticed is my actual google account on my pixel, when I go into play store now its now showing to purchase apps in TRY and apps like SBS on Demand aren't visible.

I was trying to keepy actual account seperate to the dodgy family manager account I made.

When I go into pay.google.com settings the country is still Australia.

    Any idea.?

    • If you set up the Turkey YouTube with a different google account you should be able to switch the accounts in Playstore?

    • I have/had the same issue as you. I left my family group and everything is back to Aus prices and I can now see region specific apps like SBS/STAN/Foxtel etc. Issue I have now is that I can't rejoin the family group because I get the "not in the same country as the person who invited you" error.

  • Worked with CBA Credit card. AMEX declined.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Got it to work. Was getting secure your account error, but just opened up in incognito browser and it worked.

  • I might have missed this in one of the comments, however, has anyone had any experience adding family members once you've activated the Turkish membership? Would it be as simple as having the family member to connect to a Turkish VPN before clicking on the "accept family invitation" link?? :)

    • -1

You. Missed it right there in the body of the deal…. Under instructions:

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group before signing up.

      • No no, I got that bit… I’m after the process for AFTER you’ve signed up if you want to add more members to your family. I’ve had this for a while now but have identified a potential new family member I want to add. They failed to accept as it says they’re not in the same country.

        • When I signed up for Argentina subscription previously, I skipped the adding family member process and later just went to https://families.google.com/families to add. No VPN required for me or family members. Don't know if it still works.

          • @renarune: Yeah it's strange because I added one family member and then signed up to the Turkish plan, and have now identified a second I would like to add to my family. I added them no worries, however, when they attempted to accept the invitation they were thrown an error saying they weren't in the same country. Might it be as simple as changing their address on their Google account and making it Turkey? haha

            • +1

@wellzi: I had the same issue. Ended up cancelling the subscription, deleted Turkey payment method, and changed my account back to Aus. Got everyone to accept and then redo-subscription.

Your existing sub will continue until your next payment so you wont have any downtime using yt premium.

              • @CodeXD: amazing - i'll consider that approach, thank you. This was just an olive branch to someone who really deserves no ads in their life, but I can certainly wait until I have a larger family base to create my full family. :)

man, I only realized after I got charged the ~$7 for my Argentina account today.
need to do some work now to save ~$3/m

    • Yeah i just noticed they deducted ARS 699.00. Still thinking whether its worth going down the road to changing to subscription to India

      • +1

I did some calculation here on the forum post

Basically, no point in changing because inflation in Argentina is so high, conservatively by May next year it'll be the same price as India.
        Realistically, most probably Jan-Feb.

i.e. just wait and I predict everybody will be changing back from India to Argentina.

Note: Turkey and Argentina have about the same inflation rate so if you can get Turkey to work that's most probably a good option. From what I read, it's not easy to get it working via Turkey and I've personally tried without success in the past.

Anyone paid for it using Up? Did it work?

  • If some of my family members are already on premium, do they have to cancel there subscription before being added to the family account to benifit from this?

    • yep, better cancel current one and join this deal. When you cancel, it won't stop you from watching youtube immediately (your most recent payment will determine how many days left for watching) as youtube won't refund the remaining days. When it expired, you can start invitation.

It works well for me! Just applied and showed sucessful in youtube memeship page

  • Can a Parent of a family group (but not Family Manager) sign up for YT premium and share with members of the group?

  • Once you sign up via. YouTube Turkey, does it start recommending turkey videos once you go to the Aussie YouTube site?

    • no, videos looks the same as what you get now

        Sweet thanks. Worked for me!

Thanks OP. Switched from India to Turkey which went off without a hitch. It didn't ask me for a Turkey address interestingly though. I assume it worked though as I have a pending $2.41 AUD charge on my ME Bank credit card :)

  • Hey guys wanted to ask, will I have to keep my VPN on after to use youtube or can i just buy it thorugh the vpn and then just turn my vpn of.

    • can turn VPN off after subscribing

  • What VPN are you using? As it's not changing from AUD when I'm using surfshark & nord

    • Windscribe browser based. Free acoount

      • Worked great thank you!

  • Was signed up to India, used a vpn, signed up to turkey annual plan no problem.

  • Not sure if this is mentioned further down the thread, but I kept getting errors with every card I tried and it wasn't able to process my payment.
Only when i swapped from Chrome to Safari, did it accept my payment with a Westpac Mastercard. Now I'm in! Thanks all!

  • Unfortunately I signed up for an individual plan prepaid for 12 months via India. There is no cancel option on the page. Is there a way to upgrade to a Family plan?

  • I'm trying with a turkey VPN but google keeps saying I'm in Great Britain, can't work it out

    • Use Windscribe VPN
I tried other VPNs and they wouldn't work.

        Thx ur comment helped me.

I had some issues with payment due to Google deciding my account was not secured (no actual warnings about it though).
Solved by logging in through an incognito tab as suggested in the thread!

Shifted from India to Turkey with no issues.

Back enjoying Premium again after the kids were very quick to make me aware of ads now showing up on YT "all the bloody time".

I have paid surfshark subscription but when I connect to turkey, i get the amount in pound. After trying almost every location i got amount in TRY when i connected to greece server. What vpn did you use?

      • I use Getflix as I already have a lifetime sub with them.

It would not work on my iPhone though, I had to do it via a PC browser.

      • thanks for this, i was having the same problem with surfshark and oddly enough greece worked!

  • Has anyone tried this with Windscribe recently?
Just tried this morning since my India one seems dead but after adding the extension to Chrome it doesn't allow me to create a Windscribe account due to certificate security issues

    • Disregard. Must have been a restriction on my work laptop. Got it working perfectly on my personal laptop. Cheers OP, successful move from India 😄

Argentinian YouTube Premiums seems to have gone up in price. 699 ARS = ~A$6.20 per month now!

EDIT: FYI Up from 179 ARS per month. More than tripled. Time to check out Youtube Premium India…

    ALL GOOD THANKS
    WORKS WELL ANNUAL

Thanks for the guide, I subbed without issues.

  • +1

Thanks for the guide OP - worked well with free Windscribe chrome extension for the family sharing

  • +1

follow "Instructions (Transferring from a different country)" using windscribe chrome addon worked perfectly…no need add TUR address

  • +1

Yes got this working with my free Windscribe account on my iPhone!

  • However it didn't let me change my billing address when I checked out…hopefully it continues to renew

  • I’m stumped I’ve used proton VPN urban VPN and they both show me the correct pricing but when I go to purchase with my westpac card ,up card ,transfer wise card with Turkish dollars on it it will not allow the transaction I’ve set up a payment profile in turkey I’m lost please help me

    • Did u try this via YouTube app or browser?

I had trouble with the app but everything worked opening a new Chrome mobile tab here https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships

Maybe not your issue but worth trying. FWIW I didn't even need to use a TRY address & did not create a payment profile.

(payment screen had auto detected turkey and was enough).

      ING card used.

  • Odd. Was only charged NZ$3.73 this month for YouTube Family (Argentina). It was NZ$7.22 last month due to the price hikes. Was NZ$2.17ish prior to that.

Works a treat thanka so much.

  • First time posting, do let me know if there's a proper culture for this.

I saw a previous comment by Jhonka about the google play store changing region. I signed up using an alt gmail but my main account got changed as well. Does anyone have any ideas how to change it back to the australian store? I've checked the payments profile and it seems isolated from the alt account as well

    • AFAIK, I haven’t reallh found a solution to fix this.

What I did to get around it was to just create another google account (Australian) and use it purely for downloading apps

Let me know if you have paid apps

      • Happy New Year!

I actually do have paid apps and it's showing prices in TRY even for in-app purchases. One thing to note though, when I actually proceed with the payment in-apps, it seems to automatically convert into AUD prices.

Honestly the only issue is that some apps are region restricted but not a big deal.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just renewed yearly membership using your methods and it worked.
The only problem it has charged me TWICE the yearly fee, not sure if I did something wrong.
The membership expiry is still 31/12/23, so it didn’t add two years, so not sure what to do to get refund?!

    • not sure what happened, if the charge goes through keep me updated please

      • Thanks, I just checked my account today and the duplicate charge has disappeared :)
The only thing I’ve just noticed is somehow I have a google one membership even though I’ve never signed up, it must have charged me several months ago and says it renews in March 2023.
There is NO way to cancel it or stop the auto renew. Any idea how to stop it? I’ve looked and tried different things but there is no option to do it! I don’t want to renew it.

  • I have an individual Turkey membership valid until November 2024 that I paid for yearly (twice by the looks of it) . I don’t have any ability to change this from an individual membership to a family membership.

I had an Argentina family membership previously without any issues but changed because they increased the prices. My family members got ads again which is when I realised that the membership went from family to individual. I have removed all other profiles except Australia and then re-added the Turkey payment profile but nothing is working. I do not get the option to change to a family membership at all.

    Anyone have a similar issue?

    • Are you using VPN while trying to change @Syd Bargain Girl

And are you doing this through the uoutube app, or website?

      • I am using VPN when trying to change to Family membership. I have tried to do it through youtube app, through the website both on my phone and also tried laptop.

    • How do you subscribe to yearly membership?

  • I was a subscriber via India, got a message that payment failed for December month. So I tried the Turkey as per instructions (cancel, sign up via turkey).
On the payment page, it refuses all my cards (couple of credit and debit + coupe of visa gift cards tried), all failed with error OR-CCSEH-21 for bank cards and OR-CCSEH-05 for gift cards.
Then I got a message from google to verify my identification by uploading a copy of passport or driver licence! :)
I guess I'm not going to use paid services by google from today, as there is no way I'm going to upload my documents for this.

    Anyone else had this experience?

    • Yeah experiencing this now, no card has worked.
      Any workaround ?

  • +1

    worked a treat - thanks
i couldn't get surfshark to show turkish lira, and my google location was sometimes UK… even after many disconnects+connects
first attempt with windscribe chrome plugin worked
    thank you

    • Surfshark didn't work for me either, but Windscribe worked too.

  • Anyone else hit "buy" in the purchase steps but then a blank white page loads with no response?

Checked bank account and have been charged, however it still doesn't have premium listed under active subscriptions.

  • Worked a treat via windscribe - annual individual for $24.04 AUD.

Had to use YouTube.com incognito mode in chrome, then login to Google account and then add payment details. CBA card worked without a hitch.

  • This was driving me crazy with rejecting my credit cards as 'not secured'.
I finally got it to work by downloading Windscribe desktop version. opening the link in incognito mode, signing into Youtube, then paying.
Phew - thanks OP and to those whose comments finally got me over the line.

  • Oh man what a headache.. my old card expired and the India membership wouldn't accept any of my new cards. Used Windscribe to subscribe to Turky and worked, thanks mate.

  • Indian gov has been a pain in the butt. Thank you Turkey!

  • It was the most sublime experience signing up via windscribe. I would rather pay little more to have a better sign up experience than trying to fail numerous times with Indian YouTube. Thanks OP!

  • Sign up worked after I changed VPN. Only issue I'm having is that each of the family member's Play Stores are now in Turkish currency. Is there a surefire way of fixing this without leaving the 'family'?

  • Argentina came in at $3.30 in Jan after being $6.30 last month. Still not the cheapest but happy with that.

  • +1

Thanks so much for this. I just emigrated from India to Turkey - really hospitable place so far.

  • Payment successful using NAB card
    Thanks :)

  • Thanks poster.
My CC expired and wouldn't allow the India deal to renew.
Cancelled that sh!t and jumped onto Turkey deal via windscribe.
Gobble Gobble Youtube. Stuff you and your Australia tax.

  • Just tried Qantas premier card and worked first try for monthly family plan thnx op its also $4.61 right now prices have gone down as our currency has gone up or turkey has gone down.

  • Foiled. This is using PIA to Turkey:

We couldn't verify your country. If you are using a proxy or VPN service, please disable it and try again.

    • Works for me. Must be an A/B test.

      • Maybe. Could be because I'm using OpenVPN with a PIA config instead of their own client. Worked fine with Windscribe.

    • I was tearing my hair out with this exact error as well. I think the PIA servers have been blacklisted by Google or something, none of the Turkey ones I used would work.

I tried it with Windscribe on Chrome and it worked perfectly.

  • Forgot to update the credit card on my India before it cancelled.

Moved on to this one with the Family Plan via Windscribe - no issues.

    Thanks op!

  • +1

This guide is amazing. Just moved from India (as my card had unfortunately just expired and I don't have a card that the Indian gov recognise) to Turkey, still paying $2.20 a month. Love it.

  • Hey all, I have just cancelled my India Premium account. Tried to invite my partner and brothers to join Family Plan and none of them could as it indicates that we are in different countries. Secondly, I connect a VPN with NordVPN to the server in Turkey, when click on the link to Youtube Premium site, it takes me to Great Britain and shows me British Pound instead. Has anyone had this issue before?

  • Just switched from AU to TUR, no issue with above steps.
Also, I use revolut virtual card which is safer to use for Turkey and the exchange rate seems better.

    • i get this error Your request failed. Use a different payment method, or contact us. Learn more [OR-CCSEH-21]

  • Just tried to get the annual membership and it worked. Thanks for sharing.

  • when switching from argentina family plan to turkey family plan, does all the family get transferred automatically or do i need to remove and add before I subscribe to turkey?

  • Thanks, just purchased individual membership for a year with UP Bank

  • Worked perfectly, legend

  • +1

My payment this month for India didn't go through. Doesn't seem to recognize any card on my account. They have all previously worked. Looks like I am moving to Turkey.
