nbn 50/20 $59.95/Month, 100/20 $74.95/Month, 250/25 $99/Month, 500/50 $109/Month for 12 Months (No Lock-in Contract) @ Leaptel

2830

Following the success of our spring 12 month promotion, we have extended the promotion to become an ongoing promotion with no planned end date.

I am happy to report that following a successful trial in October, we now use GSL for our international transit (instead of Vocus), which has made a significant difference to the quality of our international speeds.

The nbn offer

Down Speed Up Speed First 12 Months Ongoing Typical Evening Speed Down
50Mbps 20Mbps $59.95 p/m $74.95 p/m 50Mbps
100Mbps 20Mbps $74.95 p/m $89.95 p/m 100Mbps
100Mbps 40Mbps $84.95 p/m $99.95 p/m 100Mbps
250Mbps 25Mbps $99 p/m $119 p/m 250Mbps
500Mbps 50Mbps $109 p/m $129 p/m 500Mbps

All the above have unlimited data.

$0 activation including for month-to-month. We do offer a 24 month option if you need a modem and don't want to pay upfront for it.

Speed & Service

We are with nbn directly on 121/121 nbn POIs which means guaranteed no CVC congestion as we control our own CVC and have lots of headroom.

IPoE/DHCP is our standard connection method (no vlan tagging required) and we are happy for you to BYO modem. We do support PPPoE as well should you wish to use that connection method.

All connections are CGNAT by default, however you can disable CGNAT and receive a IPv4 dynamic IP at no cost through our portal, full details at https://leaptel.com.au/faq-cgnat/.

We support IPv6 in a trial/alpha configuration and can be toggled on in our portal.

We have points of presence in data centres in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney with peering and transit in each. You can check out our looking glass at - https://lg.leaptel.com.au/.

Our support team is located in Box Hill, Melbourne, so when you have a problem you're talking to someone local. Wait time are kept to a minimum and we support livechat and email tickets as well.

500Mbps & nbn fibre upgrades

As I mentioned we're now offering 500Mbps/50Mbps, which with a 12 month discount is a great option if you're eligable for nbn's fibre upgrade program, which you can find more details about at https://leaptel.com.au/nbn-fibre-upgrade/.

Existing customers

If you are an existing customer and have not had a promotion in the last 12 months we will be happy to provide you with this discount. Please just contact our support team which you can do very easily at https://leaptel.com.au/contact/.

In any other circumstances also just reach out and see what our team can do, we are willing to assess any reasonable requests on a case by case basis.

Opticomm

If you're in an Opticomm area we have different 6 month offers which can be found at https://leaptel.com.au/opticomm-plan/. We'd love to match the nbn offer but Opticomm's wholesale pricing is more expensive than nbn and we presently absorb a $99 ex gst activation charge for all new connections alongside other charges. There is presently a ACCC process underway which may result in increased regulation on Opticomm (and other non-nbn broadband) and we're hopeful that once completed we will be able to align our Opticomm pricing and promotions with nbn.

Who we are

Many of you won't know who Leaptel is. And that's fair, we've mostly been focused on providing services on the Opticomm network which has allowed us to do what we're now doing on nbn.

To keep it brief, this is who we are:

We are 100% Australian owned and operated.
We are 100% committed to providing a high quality product.
We are 100% dedicated to providing the best customer service possible.
We are 100% devoted to improving every day in everything we do.
We are 100% willing to own our mistakes and learn from them.

And I think our reviews back this up.

Please check out our Whirlpool Thread if you'd like to know more about us.

I will happily answer any questions anyone has.

Edit 05/01/2023 - As of 24/12/2022 we have been making our nbn CVC graphs publicly available at https://metrics.leaptel.com.au/dashboards

    • Have you moved since? Any feedback?

  • So no 25 Mbps with unlimited data? I guess that throws out the singles and couples then.

    • +1

Plenty of singles and couples want high speeds. 25 down is poop

      • -1

It suits us just fine. Why would I waste money on speed I don't have a use for? And what a foolish thing for you to say. Of course some singles and couples want/need faster, but most don't. Salesmen must rub their hands together when they see you coming.

        • +1

          Hi Wardaddy,

I think its great to pick the plan you need. We do have a 25Mbps plan, but its just not competitive price wise with 50Mbps for us to offer. Unfortunately the way the nbn structures it's wholesale pricing its difficult to offer discounts on the 25Mbps plan. The pricing on it and the CVC inclusions are just really low.

Sadly nbn wants to encourage takeup of plans 50Mbps or higher (really 100Mbps or higher these days) so plans like 25Mbps are going to fall further and further behind.

        • Foolish?
"I guess that throws out the singles and couples then"
          This statement is you assuming….
25 down is a single 4K stream lol
That means you're using 100% of your Internet bandwidth watching 1 UHD stream.
I'm not gonna assume anything but if you have devices that can stream 4K or UHD you would be foolish to get a 25 down plan.

          • -1

@Sammy Boi: You are quite wrong. You actually have no idea what you are talking about. This is the end of any communication with you. Enough of the Bovis stercus.

            • @Wardaddy: Quite wrong? Instead of getting grumpy and running can you actually prove I'm wrong?
I feel like my response was correct considering I can see the real-time speed when I watch UHD on Netflix and other services and furthermore it's like documented everywhere 25 down is what you need for UHD.

              Thanks for the laughs though

  • Hi,

Currently on HFC connection is it possible to have FTTP installed, if possible happy to switch

    • Hi Kyous,

There is no free upgrade program for nbn HFC to FTTP at present, probably because it supports speeds greater than 100Mbps. There is nbn's technology choice program but that is a very expensive option.

  • I’m
Currently using HFC with tpg super fast plan.

What’s the fastest plan I can get with you guys ? The 500/50?

    • Just signed up for Super Boost
500Mbps/50Mbps took 30 mins in total port to Leaptel, Jeez can't fault the port in transition time

The chat support was also fantastic

      • Hi Temptation,

Great to hear everything went so smoothly and support was able to help you as well. Thanks for giving us the chance to be your ISP.

  • NBN50 is less then $55 in other ISP. I change mine every 6 months

  • Can anyone recommend a cheap Marketplace 2nd hand type router I can purchase from to use with the NBN 50/20 connection? I left the country to travel for a year and didnt keep my old iinet router and I cant pay $150 + $20 for the modem!

    TIA!

    • +1

The telstra ones are usually under 50. They are pretty good but problematic if you're on a FTTN/B connection

      • Thanks - so any of the gen2 chunky white smart modems? When I do the address check it says I have nbn fibre to the node / building. Will it an issue?

        • +1

Okay you're in luck looks like leaptel use IPoE which means it will auto connect. But you won't be able to use it for VoIP unless you unlock it

  • +1

Currently experiencing an outage but I cant contact support as they are closed at the moment.

Pretty sure outages happen and your customers would require support outside these hours op.

    Mon-Fri – 9am-9pm AEDT
    Sat & Sun – 9am-7pm AEDT
Closed on national public holidays and open hours may vary on Victorian public holidays

    • Hi SuperScope,

I am sorry to hear you had an outage on your service.

As we employ Australian based staff, who are paid under the Telecommunication Services Award, it is simply not cost viable to provide 24/7 support for residential services at this stage.

I hope your service is back online, but if it is not please reach out to our support team so they can assist you.

  • I just transfered from TPG, just be aware bloody tpg charge you a month post disconnection! I.e. $75 which eats into any savings.
(30 days, not just till the end of you billing cycle)

    • On the 50/20 plan.

So far download speeds seem as advertised.
Upload is only 5.61 (melbourne 3:42 pm)
      Via Google speedtest (m-lab).
Ookla - upload is 18.10 so about right.

  • Thanks. Moving to Leaptel and see how it goes :)

  • any business plans available?

    • hi vee124,

Drop a message via our contact form if you're interested. We have BIS plans (including CIS) we just don't publicly advertise them at this stage.

  • When does this offer expire? My last day at superloop is 23/11/22 for the charges already given. Is changeover of NBN same day if I do the switch on 22-23/11?

    • +1

      Hi Pao2x,

This is an ongoing offer with no expiry date on it set. We have no plans to withdraw it this year and hopefully we can run it through most of early 2023.

In most cases the service transfer is sub-1hr now as we've fully automated these. But if something happens to stop the order with nbn it can take up to 1 business day to resolve.

Personally I would be comfortable churning on the 23rd but if you want to be very safe you could do it on the 22nd.

  • Considering moving from superloop… Find the connection to be very up and down

  • No problems signing up. Next day, my internet was dropping out a bit (it was already unstable wit my previous ISP). Called the support team, no bureaucracy (and surprisingly, not much waiting time either). They submitted a nbn service request, technician came in 2 days and changed some wires down the road. Got a follow up call from leaptel to confirm everything was ok. Getting ~1.5mbps more than what I'm paying for at the moment. Connection has been stable so far. Happy to continue with them for 1 year

    • Hi YeahNah1,

Thanks for choosing us. Glad to hear you got through so quickly. We're actually a little understaffed right now (we have a bunch of new staff in training though) so your wait time was probably longer than we'd like actually (even if you were happy with it).

Happy to hear everything to sorted so quickly for you and the service is working well.

  • Dumped Launtel for Leaptel.

    Same speeds and pings. Amazing.

    • Hi War,

Thanks for the feedback, great to hear we're delivering so well for you.

    • Now that you’ve had it a fair few months, mind sharing your thoughts on the switch? Currently considering doing the same.

  • -1

    Going to sign up.

But wondering if there will be any black Friday deals with this?

How long does it take to sign up, apparently nbn need to come to my apartment to install the nbn equipment.

    • +1

      Hi Weezle,

We consider this offer to be the best offer we can make in market right now so we won't be offering any Black Friday deals. We'd rather offer a consistent ongoing promotion that people can take advantage of over a prolonged period rather than just for one week. It is a 12 month offer though so I hope you'll consider it.

The time for an nbn install will vary, I would suggest chatting to our team so they can look it up for you.

  • +1

Was just about to switch to this company, but called Superloop retention team and they gave me $15 off per month for the next 6 months

    • Superloop offered me $5/month off..the didn't retain me.

  • Thanks I signed up after having issues moving house with Dodo, their support is so bad.

  • Can you schedule when you cut over from the previous provider rather than some random time after signing up? My current provider doesn't do pro-rata so any unused part of the month is wasted $$

    • Yes you can do this. We ask you what date you want the service to go active and lodge your order at midnight AEDT on that date. Generally active 30-60minues after that.

  • I still have 11 days with Belong and have the modem they supplied, how and when should I proceed to move if I decide to go with Leaptel? thanks

    • Step 1: Ask OzB
Step 2: Check your Belong agreement
Step 3: Set aside whatever your obligations are with Belong
Step 3: Sign up with Leaptel
      Step 4: ???
      Step 5: Profit

      • thanks for the obvious, I'm just waiting for the rep to reply incase there is any tech specific thing involved, I'm too outdated for any of this

        • +1

The advice you received is on point. We use ipoe/dhcp like almost everyone now on nbn so it should just work on changeover.

    • +1

Belong bills by calendar month, so you'd want to put an application in about three or four days before the end of the month.

Belong uses IPOE and as does Leaptel, so no changing of settings required. (Note that DNS on Belong modems is locked, so DNS requests would go through Belong/Telstra.)

Mind you, the Belong router is pretty junky - think about a new one…

      • Thanks mate.

What I should look for in the new modem so it isn't junky as the Belong one?

        • +1

Depends on the tech you're on. If you're on FTTN or FTTB, use the Belong modem in bridge mode to a decent router, otherwise a decent router is what you need.

I'm about to try an eero 6+ myself, after using an Amplifi HD successfully for many years (now with dad).

          • +2

@MELso: eero 6+ is good kit :) I highly recommend them for home use for users who want their internet and wifi to just work without any mucking around.

If you're a more advanced user you may find it's lack of configuration options a bit off-putting. But ordinary home users who never want/need to log in to the router will love it.

            • @LeaptelRep: Yeah - provided I can set up static IPs and port forwarding for my Plex server and NAS, all will be well. And I bought another 6+ today for $149 so that I can make a mesh network (wifi in the back of my home can be patchy)…

Roll on my NBN fibre install on Friday (and being issued an occupancy permit!)

      • This is good advice. I didn't know about the DNS being locked, that's a really shame.

  • Great timing. My 50/20 $50 Superloop special ended last month. I've asked Superloop if they can match or better Leaptel. If they can't away I go!

    • did you manage to get a good deal?

      • Doubt it 100/20 have increased in wholesale price they won't give me extension for my retention discount

  • Very happy with Leaptel thus far, going to churn my parents' account over in the next 2 days.

    • Hi jaydee4,

Thanks for making the switch. Make sure you give your parents your referal code when you get them to switch so that you earn yourself the $50 referral after they hit 2 months.

  • Thanks for sharing. I was going to jump ship from Superloop but they offered me $20 off for 6 months on no contract and lowered by base plan from $89.95 to $84.95.

    • may I know what plan was this for please? trying to get them to match if possible

  • Happy with the service (500/50). The speed is over provision and I constant get 510~520Mbps download, 47~48Mbps upload: https://www.speedtest.net/result/c/99969259-5718-4796-812b-4…

I can remove the CoDel limiter and get to 535Mbps but the latency is increase: https://www.speedtest.net/result/c/25616342-a280-4e40-b8fd-6…

    • +1

      Hi Sanglt,

We overprovision to 570Mbps on our 500Mbps plan (we're ordering an nbn ultrafast AVC (1000Mbps/50Mbps) and shaping it down). So knowing that might help you tweak your shaper on your end.

Loaded latency on speedtest.net is a rather meaningless metric in my opinion however.

  • Curious to know what yall do with 500 internet? I thought my 100 was too much haha.

    • In my case, it was to trigger an upgrade to FTTP (from FTTC) and I thought 'stuff it - it's only $10 more than 250/25…'

  • Moy family and I are all with ABB, except one with DoDo, and thinking of switching over. Couple of my family are on 25/10 as that's apparently the best they can get. Been many years since I switched providers, anyone know a site I can check max achievable speeds at an address? I'd thought NBN Co site did but no such luck, just says FTTN.

    • +1

      Hi Ebany,

Our team can help you by providing you the nbn estimated line speed. This is not 100% accurate as it is an estimate sadly and its a bit hit and miss on how reliable it is. But jump on our website and our livechat team can help you out.

    • +1

nbn max achievable speeds can be found here after you put in any address.

      • Err, that's incorrect. Your Telstra page says I can get max 250Mbps, while I can actually get 1000Mbps depending on provider.

I still remember the days that Telstra deliberately gimped ADSL to 1500kbps to protect the market share of their shitty cable service.

        Feck off.

        • +1

For HFC and FTTP go here and click the arrow next to Superfast 250/25 and Ultrafast 1000/50 appears. It checks the nbn backend for the max achievable speeds.

      • +1

Thanks a ton, the link worked well. Have a BIG family, few of whom understand anything about tech so I often do the rounds checking deals when I find the time, then we migrate together.

      • +2

This is a really good tool. It's basically showing you the nbn estimates that RSPs get before they order a service.

It does have limitations as I pointed out above, for example I ran a sample of 10 of our FTTN services through the nbn qual to compare estimates with what the nbn diagnostic results are showing the sync as and got the following:
6 were within 10% of the estimated downstream
2 were within 25% of the estimated downstream
2 were totally wrong (1 was estimating 100Mbps and got 34Mbps, the other was estimating 45Mbps and got 82Mbps).

So while it can be dangerous to treat the estimates as gospel, for the majority of services I would say it is indicative of what you will get. Just be prepared that it could be wildly wrong :(

        • I have tried to sign up but get this response:

"QUERY: SELECT * FROM online_form.form WHERE id =
ERROR: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1"

Edit: Disregard this message as I got through shortly after on one of my re-tries. I also realise now I had my VPN running

I'm unsure if it's the new standard but literally less than 2 mins after I got the message "Congratulations - Your application is complete" my internet went down, 2 mins (and a router reboot) later I'm blazing along on Leaptel ….. hot damn that was fast. Thanks for everything.

          • @Ebany: Hi Ebany,

For most orders where everything is installed on nbn its a 100% automatic process to activate. 2 minutes does seem superfast but it is possible if all the APIs line up so that orders are sent from one system to another in sync.

  • Can't see this discussed, so forgive me it is was, but why is there a "100GB Data Usage Included" when you go to sign up? Post says unlimited.

    • +1

Only for 12/1 and 25/5 plans- you can opt for unlimited on 25/5 though.
All the other speed tiers are unlimited. the 12/1 and 25/5 are not in the deal listing.

    • I was confused too, when you click on the higher plan it changes to unlimited

  • "Existing customers

If you are an existing customer and have not had a promotion in the last 12 months we will be happy to provide you with this discount. Please just contact our support team which you can do very easily at https://leaptel.com.au/contact/."

As someone who just tried to get AussieBB to honor their BF deal to me as an existing customer, and got turned down twice despite them allowing some people to get it, this is a great policy and you win my business! Switching now…

  • Do I need to let my current NBN ISP that I will be switching over to Leaptel, only using Internet no phone services…
    Thanks

    • Hi Sk11,

If you are transfering your service to us then the other ISP should be notifiied by nbn as part of the transfer process. However if you're on nbn FTTP or Fixed Wireless and select to order our service on a free port on the nbn NTD then the other ISP's service will remain active with nbn until you advise that ISP to disconnect it.

I always recommend confirming with the losing ISP even if you are transferring to ensure they have no grounds to continue billing you, as some ISPs require you to cancel with them and won't rely solely on the nbn transfer notice.

  • Can a referral code be used with this offer?

    • Hi Andy99,

Our refer a friend program will give $50 to the person whose code you use, but it won't benefit you in anyway, as you can only get 1 promotional offer, and the 12 month discounts we provide are greater than the once off $50 discount.

  • +1

We have been publicly publishing our nbn CVC graphs (and some other information) as of 24 December 2022. You can find the info here https://metrics.leaptel.com.au/dashboards

It will let you see the nbn CVC for the previous 24hours (it is not real time). The graph scales depending on how much CVC we are using, but you can find the CVC limit for each POI on the bottom of the graph.

As you will see, none of our nbn CVCs are even close to having any speed issues even with the occasional spike due to someone using their full 500Mbps.

  • Hi OP, I'm looking to change Isp. Just wanted to check do you have any sign up offer ATM?

    • Hi Captain Hindsight,

The offer from this post is still on offer.

  • Signed up and was provisioned in a few minutes. Great and smooth experience.

  • Hi Rep, my new building is on opticomm. Does it mean this deal is not available for me?

    • Hi Jared17,

Unfortunately this pricing is for nbn, not Opticomm, which is a different wholesale network and has different pricing. You can find out Opticomm pricing at https://leaptel.com.au/opticomm-plan/. We do offer new customer discounts, but unfortunately we cannot be as generous on that network.

  • Leaptel is often down at night, starting from 11pm. No Netflix for me. It was still down at 1:30am when I went to sleep. I tried rebooting my NBN modem and my router, no luck. The NBN modem's optical light was blinking green. Leaptel's status page says everything was working fine, so they weren't aware of it themselves. I received no downtime notifications in the email. Was able to check their website using my mobile phone data during the downtime.

I'm stuck with them for another 6 months due to the contract for changing over to fttp.

It was down last night. And quite often in the past. Always starts at 11pm (Qld time). Thankfully always comes online in the morning, I guess once they've noticed it? Or some automatic reboot? Or unannounced fiddling of their juniper config? Although one would think with their "triple redundancy" it shouldn't cause such frequent downtime.

People who are not night owls won't notice any of this and think it's all hunky dory.

    • Hi Muppet,

That doesn't sound very good and shouldn't be your experience with us. I would encourage you to speak to our support team so we can find out the cause of this for you.

  • Hey op I was going to switch when my current Isp discount ends but what happened to the no end date?

  • Is the referral code their account number? I'm getting a 'Invalid Referral Code!' error message

  • Thanks op I have signed up!

  • Just signed up. Any idea how long it takes to get transferred?

  • In case anyone needs to know, although you can disable CGNAT for free, they seem to cycle IP's about daily. So if you need a more static IP then it's $10/month.
