Someone want to comment on if this is worth 700 or so bucks

    • +3

nope, i would get the grinder and machine separately. also prefer a dual boiler.

      • thanks

        • +1

A few friends have either the barista pro or the express
They all make good coffee, the grinder makes a difference
the pro has its perks, like heat up in 3 secs, a clock/timer for the grinding and extraction

I own a bambino plus and now waiting for it to be old to justify the upgrade
I will go for the barista pro

        • +2

I doubt that bloke has even used this machine. Yes it's worth $700 but if you'd like to go into the $1k+ category there is the option he recommended.

          • +2

@Budju: Its RRP was $1400 or something like that.

I have one and the coffee it makes is better than thr cafes once you get the hang of it

        • +1

I bought one of these for $790 and its great. Way quicker and better to use compared to my brother's express. Heats up WAY faster… don't want to stand around waiting that 30 seconds every single time you make a coffee…

I'd definitely buy this at this price if I was looking to get one right now. Especially with the free 1kg coffee, 2 x glasses and other bits you get from the breville gift pack redemption.

      • -1

Definitely go for a dual boiler at this price

        • +4

Let me know where I can get one for this price!

        • +4

Isn't a dual boiler with grinder double this price?

        • +4

What's the biggest difference between this and the dual boiler? Is it just the ability to make and expresso and use steam/hot water at the same time? If so I can wait the 30 seconds.

I'm no coffee connoisseur, but am happy with my Barista Pro.

      • +3

Horses for courses. I had a smart grinder and infuser that finally packed it in.

Thought long and hard and ended up selling the smart grinder and bought this. Been very happy with it. Only thing I miss is the pressure dial.

Dual boilers are great but that + smart grinder is a serious benchspace investment compared to this.

This has a place for those not looking to spend quite as much nor give up so much space.

    • +1

Yep, I have one and it's excellent. Especially for someone with limited bench space. The grinder is pretty great too.
Those suggesting dual boilers - these have super quick heating elements that are ready for a coffee in three seconds. Not sure a dual boiler is worth it for home use

      • Dual boiler will allow you to leave 30 sec earlier to work cause you can froth while coffee extraction in progress 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • +1

It is, I have one and it makes fantastic coffee.

Dual boiler and seperate grinder is better (frother and basket size imo), but it's more expensive and takes up more space.

This will be 90% as good as the dual boiler and you'll be making coffee as good as a cafe in no time

Is good guys down for anyone else?

    • +2

Yes. Can’t access. Looks like their website had crashed!

  • Wonder if amazon will match.

I have Barista Pro since Xmas last year. Got this as a starter expresso machine where I make about 3-4 coffees a day and produces great-tasting shots (once you have it dialled). The 2 in 1 machine was also very appealing given my limited kitchen space and an improvement over the Breville Barista Express (quicker heatup times, more grind setting adjustments, better steaming wand).

Watched a few youtube clips (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiBK63yzOF4), with a few accessories, and learning to dial it in, it produces some great shots. I've gone a little overboard with accessories (dosing cup, scales, palm tamper, WDT, IMS precision basket, single dose hopper and puck screen).

Knowing what I know now, I would have gone with a separate grinder/espresso machine (Bambino Plus + Smart Grinder Pro is the commonly recommended beginner setup). Gives option to upgrade to a nice grinder in the future (which you will if you go down the rabbit hole).

  • +2

I've had this machine for a few months now and it does the job real well and as a first machine I couldn't be happier.
I got this over the cheaper (analog version has the pressure dial) which is the Barista Express because of the LCD screen which makes things so much easier to do weekly/monthly maintenance, shot timer is shown (pre-infused & shot pull). The coffee grinder (included) also has a better grind range than the Express.

With the savings you will get I would recommend these accessories to get better coffee puck consistency:

Coffee Distributor & Tamper —- If you only got 1x upgrade this would be the one as the included (tamper and razor leveling tool are not adequate, in my opinion for first time users).

    Dosing Cup or alternatively
Dosing Ring this helps with spillage and you get no mess
Coffee Needle Distribution tool this helps you remove grind clumps.

With the 20% discount and the cashback offer total price is actually $680.37 which is a complete bargain.

    $899 - (20% = $179.8) = $719.20
    Shopback Cashback (removing GST from $719.20) = $647.28 x 0.06% = $38.8368
    Total = $719.20 - $38.83 = $680.37

Unless you are consistently making 3+ cups (in a single session) or someone who entertains a lot of people regularly this machine does the job for the home barista.
You aren't waiting around at all for the water to get hot (it is near instant) the moment you turn the machine on and coffee making process doesn't take long.

    Highly recommended machine.

Revision increased cash back offer (9th November between 12pm and 11.59pm only), reverts back to 6% after it ends.

      $899 - (20% = $179.8) = $719.20
      Shopback Cashback (removing GST from $719.20) = $647.28 x 0.10% = $64.728
      Total = $719.20 - $64.72 = $654.47

An absolute bargain and don't forget the Breville promotional offer as well (refer to OP) for redemption link above.

      • Actually I got $49 cash back yesterday with 6%

      • Any chance still can get this price

        • They usually have similar discount twice a year according to OzBargain’s history.

          • @sicaboy: will it still have the 2xx bonus accessories ?

            • @adpaholic: Yea. Last time during the Father’s Day promotion they have pretty much the same promotion like this time.

    TGG website is down

  • Note for others. Seems like the gift card function on the payment step is down :(

Sorry, we are unable to process your gift card at the moment. Please try again later or visit your nearest store to complete your transaction.

    • Note for everybody, looks like the gift card function is working again. Just grabbed one with a $200 + $500 gift card.
Remember if you go the gift card route, you can only use up to two gift cards when buying online.

One more note, I had to finish the remaining payment through Paypal. Trying to finish the payment with my credit card showed that I would be charged the full price i.e. it ignored the gift cards 🤔 Best to double-check exactly what you'll be charged before you submit. The website is a disaster.

      • +1

I tried at least 20 times. Sometimes no gift card works, sometimes only one works and sometimes both works but still need credit card info. I know it’s a glitching so I keep trying and finally I paid with two gift cards.

  • The coffee machine has literally saved me over $1000 since buying one about 4 months ago (2 Large coffees per day)

  • Successfully bought one and picked up in-store :)
great timing as I was ready to purchase last friday but delayed it a bit. :D

  • After 12pm today you get 10% cash back.

  • Will the cashback work for paying with StoreCash?

  • How long does it take you guys to receive an email invoice from TGG? I got an SMS with a link to download the digital invoice, but it says the dock is invalid. Not sure if you guys meet the same problem? I need the invoice for the bonus pack.

    • -1

Check your good guys online account and go to orders.
You should be able to print out an invoice but maybe in your case contact The Good Guys online support.

They have to provide you with an invoice either way.
I got a digital invoice (via sms link) which is valid provided you take a full screenshot of the digital invoice.

Do a Google search of your model phone on how you can take full screenshots.

Alternatively, just copy the url and open it on a computer and print to pdf.

    • Same issue here. It's not good enough that the invoice cannot be downloaded from online account and no one in the local store picked up the phone…

      • I called the local store where I picked up. They said their website is glitching and ask me to wait for some days it will come and they said there is no ETA.

        • +1

I just went to the store and asked for the invoice. They printed a copy and sent me a digital copy immidiately via email.

  • Does anyone know how long it usually take to receive the bonus gift after Approval email?

    • Doesn't take long they normally deliver within 7 days once they approve it

      • Thanks @xecutor . Did you get a dispatched or shipped notification after the approval email?

        • I don't recall recveiving a shipping notification only an email saying that the promotional submission was approved.
You should get an email from Breville with the subject title "Gift Approved".

They might be delayed with the Click Frenzy deals that were going on if you still haven't got it after a week.
Contact Breville and they should be able to sort you out.

          Hope you get it soon.
