In 2021, we announced that UBank and 86 400 were coming together to create a streamlined digital banking experience. This new chapter gave us the opportunity to upgrade our banking platform and bring a new experience to our customers

Terms and conditions
>The Upgrade Bonus offer will run from 1 September 2022 to 31 March 2023 and is available to all eligible ubank customers who meet the Upgrade Bonus Offer Criteria. The Upgrade Bonus offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer (unless we determine otherwise).

The Upgrade Bonus offer will run from 1 September 2022 to 30 June 2023 and is available to all eligible ubank customers who meet the Upgrade Bonus Offer Criteria. The Upgrade Bonus offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer (unless we determine otherwise).

The offer is limited to one bonus payment per customer.

You are an eligible customer if you:

  • are an ‘original’ ubank customer with a Save account and are upgraded to the new ubank experience (customers who were previously original ubank customers and closed their accounts are not eligible for this offer); and
  • within the offer period, have or open a ubank Spend account.

To meet the Upgrade Bonus Offer Criteria, you must make 3 purchases using your ubank debit card (including digital wallets), that are made and settled within 30 days of receiving an SMS from us saying you’re ready to upgrade.

A card transaction will only be considered “settled” once it is fully processed to your account and no longer showing as “pending” in your transaction history.

Eligible customers who meet the Upgrade Bonus Offer Criteria will receive a payment of $50 into their Spend account within a few days of fulfilling those criteria.

      • I got the cars, NO sms but an email ‘xyz, you’ve now been moved to our new ubank experience’.

Do I still need to wait for the SMS?

  • +1

Just got my SMS, lessgo spend some money

  • Has anyone tried just adding the card to PayPal and making 3 small payments? That should qualify right

  • got the card and waiting for SMS

  • For those who have received the $50. How many days did it take after you made your three purchases?

    • +3

4 days - I made my 3 purchases on Sat 12 Nov and received the $50 on Wed 16 Nov

  • Or 3 x $0.01 payments at Woolies? Any min spend?

Has anyone received the $50 yet and can advise how long it took?

    • +1

      4 days

  • +1

I've received an email worded like below but no mention of the $50. I've had my account with Ubank for many years now but I do not recognise 84600 name. Does this mean I am not targeted?

We promised you a new way to manage your money, and it’s almost here. Over the next week or so, you’ll be upgraded to our new banking experience and app. Once you have been upgraded, you’ll no longer be able to use your old app or Visa Debit card to access your money. This email has all the information you need to be ready when your upgrade happens.
What happens next – wait for an SMS
All our customers are being upgraded at different times, so you’ll receive an SMS from us once it happens for your accounts.
Tip: Make sure your mobile phone number is up to date, so you get the upgrade SMS. You can check this via the ubank app.

    • +4

It’s on the letter once you receive the debit card

      • +1

You're right, it mentioned the 3 times in 30 days for $50 on the letter. But still have to wait for the SMS to say my upgrade is complete.

Another question, both the BSB and account numbers will change?

        • +1

You're not going to get a SMS. I got an e-mail

          And yes, everything will change.

          • +1

@kerfuffle: Thanks. The new app tells me I'm not ready for upgrade yet so I'll just have to wait.

            • @fufufu: But you said you got the debit card in the post?

              • @kerfuffle: Yes, there are a lot of confusing information here.

Both the first SMS and the letter the card came with says I need to wait for a SMS that says I am ready to upgrade before I can use the new card and be moved to the new system. Everything up to now is in preparation for it.

                • @fufufu: Well did you get an e-mail saying you were now upgraded? I wouldn't wait for the SMS. Most of my comms came via e-mail.

                  • @kerfuffle: No I haven't but both communications regarding the new account says I am meant to receive a SMS. Like I said I tried logging in to the new app and it says my account is not ready for upgrade.

                    • @fufufu: And like I said, I wouldn't rely on getting a SMS. I was told I would get a SMS too but I was told via e-mail.

  • +3

Got my $50! Made my three qualifying spends on Tuesday and got the $50 this afternoon.

    • Is there a minimum spend or would 3x5$ do?

      • +2

I don't think there would be. I ended up buying lunch for $5 from Coles, a chocolate bar for 90 cents from Woolies and a drink from Starbucks for $7.

        • +4

Damn Starbucks was more expensive than your lunch

  • Any idea if this stacks with the $30 referral bonus for old Ubank customers who open a new account on the new ubank?

    • +1

No because you're not upgrading; you're opening a new bank account.

  • I'm a legacy UBank customer and have already been upgraded. However, I keep getting the error " Sorry, we can't make payments to this account. Please call us on 133080" when I try to send money to someone who has also just been upgraded to the new UBank platform.

Has anyone else had this issue?

  • +2

Received my $50 in 3 days after 3x card spend
Just did split payment at Woolies 3x $0.10
    Easy peasy

  • the "use 3 times" can be online purchases?

    • +1

I don’t see why not, so long as it’s a card purchase

  • I finally got around to setting up my uBank app and I must admit I'm impressed that I can add in my NAB. AustralianSuper, Macquarrie Bank etc accounts to the same app. I don't think I have that feature on my regular banking apps.
I still can't get it set up on my iPhone Apple Pay wallet (via the uBank app) but that might be because I tried setting it up this weekend and someone might need to do something on the back end.

    • +1

Huh? Add orher bank to ubank? Not worry in case of hacking?

      • Not worried myself but that is up to people's personal risk profiles.

      • Not worry in case of hacking?

I don't think you need to worry about UBank hacking your other bank accounts, that's not going to be good for their business.

        • +3

What if a hacker hacks ubank they will say thanks i get 3 banks in 1 hack

    • Can you increase daily limit from the app with the new app?
      Sucks having to call them

      • No. have to call each time

  • My new card keeps getting declined at the checkout at Coles. Has this happened to anyone else? Its been activated.

    • +1

Physical or digital? I used my digital card at Coles the other week and that was fine

      • Physical card. Maybe I'll try digital next time

    • +3

In my case, the money from the old checking account is missing. Presumably it will get transferred over, as it did with the savings accounts.

But if the same thing happened to you, that would explain it being declined.

      • +2

Yes there was no money in the account. All sorted now!

  • My mrs received letter and the card but no sms yet, can she start spending 3x ?

    • +2

I don’t think so because you need to activate the card in the app

    • +1

Tbf, it is confusing. They sent me an email and 2 sms + the card in the mail, yet the last sms states to expect another sms before I can upgrade. Then the 30days starts from there

      • +1

yeah, just letter and card (without sms) and we can actually login to the new app, see our $ there, activate the card and start spending already.
just done 3x $1 split payments so lets see in a week or so if we get the $50

        • +2

update. got the $50 in 3 days after making.
as i said, no sms but got letter with the card on the mailbox, able to login to new app, activate card and used it 3 days ago

  • I’ve only been offered $20 after 3x spend :(

    • I think that’s a different offer for New Customers
Not users who have been migrated across

The “Welcome Bonus” offer is available to new customers who open an account using an eligible code before 31 December 2022, and who make 3 purchases using their ubank debit card (including digital wallets) within 30 days of opening an account.

      • Letter says $50 but app says $20. Either way, I’ll take the offer.

  • Received 4 new cards between my partner and I as we have 2 personal accounts and a joint account. I have a card linked to my personal Uspend and another linked to our joint Uspend. Same for my partner. Each letter mentions the “use 3 times get $50”. Does that mean $50 for each card?

    • Terms in the link below, states one bonus payment per customer

      ubank.com.au/upgradebonus

  • +1

No minimum spend amount on each of the 3 transactions right?

    • +2

Nope, as long as it clears. One of my transactions was 90 cents

      • Awesome, thanks

  • +1

i got the bonus after a couple of days. easy $50

  • +2

This bank has no competitive advantage any more now they're 86400 wearing Ubank clothing. Ubank had automatic account sweeps, daily limit of up to 100k, an app with a running balance and transactions that appear in real time, and a tap to pay facility that didn't require me to hand over even more data to Google. Now they have emojis in the app but none of those material features and nothing any other bank doesn't have.

Previously the above features were reason to put up with their non-market leading interest rate, but they are now gone. They force me to update all my payers and payees by changing the account numbers and BSBs, and if you're doing that you might as well go to Virgin.

Length of time on hold to speak to someone is usually irrelevant if the bank works well and doesn't make you call them, but you can easily spend hours waiting to these.

    • I really like how you can add in other bank accounts (including Super) to the app. Too bad I cannot add in my Superhero account to it.

      • +1

I consider a running balance next to each transaction and real time transaction listing to be absolute baseline functionality of a modern banking app (absent now in UB). If you want to trust them with your log in credentials to other banks and potentially impair the recoverability of your money in the event of any fraud (remember your obligation to not give out your login details to third parties?) go right ahead.

    • What other bank gives a better ongoing interest rate for up to $250k, while being able to add or withdraw money whenever you want?

      • Virgin.

        • Virgin:

Must make … no more than 1 withdrawal , including internal transfers or external payments.

          • @Dacs: Wrong account. You want the boost saver, not the grow saver. It has the better interest rate and no such limitation.

            • @fancytuna: Ah okay. 4.3%pa at Virgin (with $2k monthly deposit during month and 5 transactions) compared to $4.1%pa at Ubank (from January, with $200 monthly deposit)

              • +2

@Dacs: Indeed. 4.3% TODAY, not in January. Plus 8 rewards points (worth about 4c) per card, Bpay and DD transaction. Plus 4.6% if you're prepared to deal with 32 days notice for withdrawals. Plus transactions show up in the app immediately. Plus you can set a transfer limit up to 100k without having to speak to anyone. Now that Ubank has become 86400 rebranded they lead the market in exactly 0 ways. So sad to see Ubank becoming some insubstantial hipster brand that sprang up riding the wave of branchless banking that UB themselves started.

    • +1

You have pretty much summed up our disappointment, and loss of all those desirable features, when transitioning to the new Ubank.

They force me to update all my payers and payees by changing the account numbers and BSBs

I was under the impression that they have not begun the transition of customers with both old and new Ubank accounts. Have they informed you about the transition yet?

      • +1

No I had only legacy Ubank accounts. They migrated me on the first of this month with an SMS saying 'by the way- you get all new account numbers yay!' which forced me to immediately scramble to change everything to avoid lost payments and rejected DD fees.

        • +1

I see. Yeah, from all the disgruntled comments and reviews, they probably should have executed the switch better. Not sure why they rush this.

        • +2

'by the way- you get all new account numbers yay!'

Don't you just love it when companies present bad news like it's supposed to be good news? It's some kind of gaslighting. I recall ING did that too. We are not fools we know when we are being fed BS.

          • +2

            @Yola: correct. the ING was
by the way we listen to you that asking to save more so now you need to increase your balance otherwise we will not give you (bonus) interest.

i gave them mouthful feedback including dont joke on someone else $

  • Complete failure so far. Received the letter & card weeks ago. Still no sign of sms. I used to get the error message that my account wasn't ready when trying to sign in the new app - not anymore.
But none of the identification method works. Doesn't even recognize my maiden name. Asking me to reset my password - but still working on old app/website.
Tried to get a code on the phone but instead asking me to wait 1h in the queue.
    Gosh I hate them.
    /Rant over

    • +1

When you get migrated you'll get all new BSBs and account numbers. All of your regular payers and payees will need an update. Thanks for the unexpected busywork Ubank and the removal of all the desirable features. You have to just accept that, as a long term customer, they're not interested in your business anymore.

Remember when Ubank was the antithesis to all this BS? You didn't need to call them because everything is doable within the app, but if you do they answer the phone immediately.

By the way if you want to leave them because they offer nothing market leading anymore, and you need to update all your regular payments with new details anyway, the daily limit is 20k and there's no way to increase it without waiting on hold.

      • Thanks for the heads up, gonna need the funds for deposit soon hence will start transferring out. Such a pain. At least withdrawing doesn't forfeit the bonus interest.

  • Now that Ubank sucks, which bank should we move to for high interest savings with minimum conditions? Is there a discussion about that somewhere on Ozbargain? I feel like this is the kind of site where there would be…

(Assuming that I ever actually get access to my Ubank money - "upgraded" yesterday, was able to log in, transferred money and everything, but today it won't let me login and says my both my password and secret question/answer are wrong… on hold for 24 minutes so far)

    • Try Virgin

      • They seem to have a lot of confusing conditions: how do you do 5 transactions per month and lock your account for 32 days? Aren't those two things mutually exclusive?

        • You have a Go Account (Transaction) and Boost Saver (Savings). You can also have multiple Boost Accounts, which you can choose to lock (or not).

    • +1

there's a Savings leaderboard google spreadsheet available on Whirlpool
      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/145iM6uuFS9m-Rul65--e…

      • Very cool, thank you!

  • This ubank is weird. Last time they hv asked me to login via their new interface/website, but today when i needed to login, they had 2 options: new or old website, and i only could login to the old website.

  • Terrible upgrade experience. Revoked my upvote.

They only sent out the FYI SMS late night before the day they did my upgrade. Tried to login but was told there was an error. Called in and waited for about 2 hours and once connected, they told me I was one of the edge cases where the upgrade didn't work as intended because I had both original ubank and 86400 accounts. WTF? Like seriously someone surely must have thought of the different customer scenarios when planning out the upgrade? Anyway, they said they would get someone from IT to manually patch me over and would expect this to get done in less than 24 hours. I waited for about 4 days and there was no update whatsoever, tried logging in again but failed. I tried to login using Chrome browser and luckily it worked. I then proceeded to withdraw all my money out and this is my goodbye to ubank, good riddance.

EDIT - someone got offered $100 for complaining to AFCA.. anyone else wants to try their luck? XD

  • Can I get this if I have no emails from them?

  • -1

When is my turn… so weird this bank…. they should sack their mirgation manager.

    • I am not in a hurry. Enjoying having both.

      • Enjoying having both.

        Not for long!

If you haven't already, you will receive that dreaded email about account migration to the new UBank platform (formerly 86400).

  • finally got told it has been transferred…will do the 3 transactions this week when I got to the supermarket…along with all the other cards I have to do it to get bonus interest

  • This offer has now been extended to 30 June 2023.

  • i have not received anything

  • I used both mine and mrs' card yesterday in woolies - 3 transactions with each card and received 2x$50 today.

I couldn't see any mention of minimum purchase, so I paid $10 with every transaction, just to be safe.

    • Did you get the email invitation before yesterday?

      • No, I received SMS on Mar 13, saying that my account has been upgraded.
Logged in with the new app 3-4 days later and straight after that got an email with the $50 offer.

        • ok then i have to wait for sms first…..

  • I actually received a replacement debit card from old Ubank, and a new debit card from the "upgraded" new Ubank days apart. Tried logging in earlier today and apparently I've been moved to the new Ubank now and can't log in to the old Ubank platform.

They have certainly made it quite confusing for users, can understand why people are put off by it.

    • I got an SMS and an email at the same time I received the new purple cards, explaining exactly what was going to happen - didn't you get those ?

      • I did, but again why send me a new debit card from old Ubank when it's going to be redundant anyway? And now I've been locked out of the new Ubank when I was able to log in with my old credentials to activate card from "new" Ubank 🤦‍♂️

Can confirm that as an existing 86400 turned ubank customer who got a new card issued for my old ubank account turned new ubank account that I was able to receive the $50 upgrade bonus.

My old ubank accounts got merged into the “new” ubank app with my already existing 86400 turned ubank accounts.

Activated my card and made 3 purchases on the transaction account linked to the new card issued to me on Thursday night

Received the $50 bonus this morning.

TLDR: Old ubank customers who have had their accounts merged with their 86400 turned ubank accounts and have had a new card issued should be able to get this bonus

  • 3 transactions done after new card activation and $50 credited towards my acc. Thanks
