The sound of the click on the D-pad on the Series controller has got to be one of the worst I've ever heard.

    Unnecessarily loud and hollow.

    • +19

      Better than mushy.

    • agreed

    • +14

      I love the clicky d-pad sound…

    • +3

Not really unnecessary. It's more tactile. I much prefer it over other d pads by far.
I think what makes it feel a bit odd is the finish on it, though

    • Same with the face buttons, can’t stand it. Ridiculously loud unless you have headphones on.

Any suggestion for 3rd party alternatives? Tried the Elite and it’s the same thing

    • +4

since when sound becomes a standard for controllers?

This gen xbox controller is the best by far… nice and clear D-PAD and shoulder buttons. firm grip and solid build quality….

apart from vibration this thing is close to perfect…

    • +2

I rather have a loud clicky d-pad than a controller that's f'd. I've returned 2 controllers so far it's really starting to annoy me, seems it's a common issue RB button not working properly. I tried blowing hack worked for like a minute than didn't, sent back to Microsoft.

      • +1

Sony cheaped out on the stick design for the PS5 and their controllers are way more prone to stick drift than the PS4. Not sure why both companies have made such lousy controllers for this generation.

Nintendo also did a crap job on the Switch joycons which develop stick drift at an even faster rate than the PS5.

        • +3

This generation is pretty weak. I've still got my original NES, Mega Drive II, Sony PSX and PS2 controllers in perfect working order. I've been through a few Xbox One controllers, up to my 4th Series S|X controller in nearly 2 years.

Funny thing, my Switch joycons have been stuffed for years… still surviving on them. But then again its not the stick drift that annoys me, the light indicators don't light up.

          • @hawktalk: Yeah same, my original xbone controller still works perfect after 12 years. I don't think the new controllers will hold up. Plus all my other consoles still working good up to ps3, ps4 thumbsticks also terrible. I'm hoping the new xb controller is free from faults but not holding my breath. Microsoft warranty also a pita

            • +1

@Bretttick: Buying physically in store most stores should replace the controller on the spot (providing you have proof of purchase). I've had a few random hiccups with my Series S|X controllers (hence why I've had 4 in 2 years!), had various issues (RB and RT playing up), B button getting stuck on one controller, had another one where there was annoying clanking noise when pressing the face buttons. Reminded me of the 2010 metallic Xbox 360 controller.

              • @hawktalk: I bought console from Microsoft and extra controller from Microsoft. Pita to deal with Microsoft but 2 years warranty compared to store 1 year but they just changeover

Yet feel the need to post on Xbox posts.
Do I detect some insecurities there?

      • He is probably also happily married but looking to have an affair

      • -8

I have an xbox series X I use it for a door stop now because of lack of use.

        • +6

Yet every Xbox post on OZB you are here!
You probably should discuss these issues with someone professional.

How do you spot a PC gamer? Don’t worry, they’ll tell you, even if no one asked.

    • The problem with the so-called "PC master race" are all the PC users…

      • +3

Nah not true, it's a personality problem of the poster. Plenty of PC gamers happily enjoy consoles too it's just the ones with issues that talk all the crap.
They have to tell how good they are which no doubt comes from their own insecurity.

        • +1

Every dude who has figured out how put 6 components together and install Windows thinks they are a god. Building PC's is so ridiculously easy these days, that they have to put lights everywhere to make it look more than it is.

  • +4

Where's the down vote PainToad? Not OzRRP remember…

    Xbox gamer confirmed

    • +8

      I’ve answered this before.

MS didn’t increase the price. Don’t do forced bundling of overpriced games.

This is still RRP, so not a bargain. Hence no +. But it’s not a complete rip off, so no -.

But stock is everywhere now. So maybe a - is warranted 🤔 You’re so concerned about my votes dreamstation - what do you think?

  • +8

XBOX is in stock for ages so not even a ozRRP post….

  • +5

I would compare with getting directly from Microsoft, which force you to bundle an accessory, but better deal if you have the Microsoft Amex offer (spend 500 get 150 back) or Xbox gift cards commonly at 10% discount.

  • +1

Cheaper than a PS5? I'll just leave this here..

First party games. Not consoles. I would imagine most play first play first party games on GamePass anyway. But nice try.

      • +4

Gamepass and console price increases will follow.

But they will start and do it slowly.

        • How exactly do you know this?

Your uncle’s friend works for MS I assume?

          • +1

@PainToad: I linked it recently. It's assumed console prices will be changed.

            • @scuderiarmani: So its gone from “will” too “assumed”.

              • @PainToad: Stop being pedantic.

                https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/…

                Will. Happy?

                Phil Spencer himself.

                • @scuderiarmani: No where does that article provide a quote from Spencer that consoles will increase.

                  • -3

@PainToad: Meh. You probably deny Covid. It's happening. No one announces it will months out.

"I do think at some point we'll have to raise the prices on certain things, but going into this holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices."

                    • @scuderiarmani: Huh? No I don’t deny Covid. If you were actually an active member on here you would know that.

Again, that quote does not say console prices will increase.

They might increase, sure. But you said they will when you have zero facts to back up that claim.

                      • @PainToad: I'll eagerly await your apology next year. Blind Freddy can see where that is coming from.

                        • @scuderiarmani: Again. I’m not saying prices won’t go up. They may. All I’m saying is you have no information to claim they will go up.

                          • @PainToad: Nice to have a foot in each camp.

I'm not a betting man, but I know what Phil is alluding too.

                    • @scuderiarmani: He said "certain things". He didn't say "one thing". He didn't say "everything". So out of:
                      1. Games - confirmed
                      2. Console
                      3. Game Pass
                      4. XBL
                      5. Accessories

Which ones will and which ones won't?
                      We don't know that yet.
I think this is what @PainToad has been saying, and I'm inclined to agree.

                      You don't know which ones.
                      You only assume.
No one is denying what Spencer said.

    • +2

All coming to Gamepass day 1 so not really a worry.

If you want to own it for playing years from now or collecting etc, play it on Gamepass on launch, then buy it once the price inevitably drops by 50%+

    • Still cheaper?
Hopefully they don't try to charge for upgrades from xbonex to series X games like PS do, although I doubt it.

    • LOL, typical ps pleb - from the article you linked

Xbox is also not the first company to have done this — Sony, Ubisoft, and Take-Two Interactive have announced $70 price points for certain new games, and Sony specifically has reported discussed raising that price even higher

      • +1

LOL.. I own a Series X buddy, I also own a PS5 and gaming PC because real hardcore gamers game on all platforms. I'm just pointing out that MS do and will raise prices, even Gamepass eventually. Companies are not your friends, I don't have allegiance to anyone.

        • +1

Still looks like XB will be cheaper though?

  • +3

these are no longer deals… available in sotck most of the time..

  • +2

They are in stock at all my local JB stores too.

  • +2

These are always in stock, if you waited this long might as well wait till Boxing Day. You never know. Amazon did drop the PS5 back down to $750 couple days ago out of nowhere

    • Down to RRP, nice. I don't agree that any PS5 over $750 is a deal, they've created a newer cheaper to produce model of the console yet at the same time try to charge $50 more for a 2yr old console. Get real Sony.

      • Yeah, Stupid Sony invading Ukraine. Stupid Sony getting frisky with bats….

        • -2

Ukraine doesn't have any part in production of the PS5.

          • @Agret: LOL you don't think a War influences prices of lots of things around the world?

            Cute.

  • +5

As of 2023 (next year ;) ) the price of Xbox games will be going up to $70 USD (not sure about AUD). This is in line with the industry, but it might be worth noting when choosing a console. Who knows what will happen, but I'd expect a rise in Game Pass subscription prices too at some point next year.

BTW, I still love this console. It's my favourite since the 360.

  • +1

Haven't been particularly reliable machines in the past for me.
Fool me twice,….I'll go and listen to The Who

  • +1

or just get it from Microsoft in a bundle with shopback 10% back on xbox gift cards and basically get an extra controller for another 6 bucks.

  • Thanks for posting, grabbed one
