Can I sit on this to keep me cool in summer?

    • +7

      If not bigger than 15"

      • +17

        I better get 4 then

  • Is this a lot better than the $15 Kmart one?

    • +6

      Four bucks better.

      • $20 better for only $4 extra

  • +2

How about this one, slightly lower with 2 fans KLIM Pro - The Laptop Cooler for Professionals - Laptop PC Support - Easy to Carry - 10” to 15,6” - Extra USB Port - New 2022 Version - White https://amzn.asia/d/cBbI9ki

    • I just bought this one yesterday and waiting to ship. Didn't get the Thermaltake as comments didn't really give confidence.

      • The blue one was under 19 a few days ago.

        • Yep! I bought the blue for around 18.50

  • +1

It's… actually literally called the "Massive"?

  • +3

    New toilet fan thanks.

  • +1

    Cheers OP! 🍻

Also there's an A23 version for 16" lappys.

  • I got something similar for my NAS which was in a cupboard and prone to overheating. Ended up just moving the NAS to the entertainment cabinet as the five hard drives were not as loud and annoying as I thought they’d be. Originally I did want this model but couldn’t justify the price back then.

    these things still exist?

    • +6

Nup, you're asleep, you need to wake up

    • Yes. They exist for people who don't know how to service a dusty/clogged laptop cooling system. I'm not sure they make a lot of difference regardless.

      • +2

Depends how well a laptop is bujilt and the surface it is placed on without one of these. When I fixed people's laptops I always reminded not to place on soft surfaces without a tray or a cooling pad.

      • +3

Or people that play games with the laptop sitting on their lap and want to avoid 3rd degree burns on their thighs.

  • +6

Ah gotta have the rgb one for better performance

    • +2

      Username checks out lol

  • That cable looks like it'd be the most likely bit to fail just because of the bend in the storage, let alone normal usage.

  • +1

Now out of stock from Amazon AU, now available for a higher price from a third-party vendor.

    • +2

The more massive A23 still available for $19 tho.

    • +1

Amazon AU added more stock at $19 for delivery January 16 - 29. Can be chosen from the "Other Sellers on Amazon" sidebar.

  • It's showing $29.87 for me… was the price just got changed?

  • +1

$29.87 now.. but the a23 is still $19

  • These are pretty much just ewaste, has no effect on cooling unless you take the bottom part of your laptop off since it'll only cool the bottom chassis at best. Believe it or not, placing multiple fans in front of each other just worsens air flow.

Installing rubber feet or if you're ultra cheap you can use spare bottle lids to prop up your laptop, will be much better for airflow.

      has no effect on cooling

That's not what videos like this show: https://youtu.be/tXvKiy65pwg

Cooling pad works often better than a stand

      • I just watched the video. I think he pretty much says that you get most of the benefit (Avg 3 degrees) from simply raising the laptop and the added inconvenience of powered fans and noise only gains you an extra 1.5 degree on avg. I'm not an overclocker or anything but is an extra 3-4.5 degrees worth much it in terms of GPU CPU longevity?

        • Not sure on the exact impact on longevity, but just wanted to share that these devices do more than having "no cooling effect"

I do strongly recommend at least a raised stand for any laptop user

These are great for a modem/router and NBN NTD to sit on.

Usually power can be gotten from the router :)

    Those NTD's run HOT.

    • +1

Glad you mentioned this, these are outstanding for cooling many electrical items under load. I use one under my drill battery charger which seems to heat the batteries excessively while charging.

  • Thank You, Got 2 of the a23's for my nuc and the ntd

  • As I side note, I use one of these for my modem. Used to get really warm, now is cool to touch all the time.

  • Is it a bad idea to place the laptop in an upside down v position on the desk to save space (connect to monitor) but will it be bad for cooling?

Received the A23 pretty happy with it. Is it worth the $30-40 retail price tag prolly not but for under $20 not too shabby.

  • Received mine - not as silent as it suggests… has a tiny rattle type sound but I can't pinpoint it.

    • you might need to add some light oil/lube to the fan spindle

      • +1

        Yeah maybe try some astroglide.

        • +1

lol i was thinking more silicone lube or sewing machine oil but you make do with what you have ;)

      • Yeah had a quick look at that, unfortunately it's not accessible via the sticker on the back as I'd hoped, which makes it a "pull the whole thing apart" affair. Which I might end up doing anyway, I can't stand the rattle/fan noise
