    • What issues?

    • teething issues,

      Such as?

      (Genuinely curious)

      • -1

Some games are not compatible yet. Battery isn't great yet.

        • +3

That will never be sorted. Steak deck being a Linux system using proton will always result in issues with some games.

Battery is same thing if you look at what you want (tdp vs performance)…

          • @Jokerchris2000: It'll improve and version 2 will be quieter, faster, etc.

It's a great first run though

            • +1

@hamwhisperer: Actually looking at the hints of valve they target the same performance level for the successor.
They just are trying to squeeze a better display and bigger battery in it. So could actually be the same chip still.

              • @Jokerchris2000: Of course they would say that, they want us to buy gen 1 and not wait for gen 2.

If you look at the very first smart phone, smart watch, VR, they have a lot of "teething issues" compared to future gens.

                • +1

@congo: Yeah that’s correct but nowadays the supply chain is nearly impossible to keep locked away. And people got pretty good in picking out manufacturing information to predict future products. All the iPhone rumours always start with order lists and the like from Foxconn.
So again, I guess that Gen 2 is still a bit away just because there was no real hardware related rumour or info leaking on it. Everything came from Valve direct.
And they said it won’t be more performance but display and battery improvements. So might only be a revised Gen 1 before a real successor follows.
Would be great if a new one comes out soon as I would love more speed but I doubt it.

                  • @Jokerchris2000: Fair point. I would personally wait for gen 2, as the display and battery is important to me.
I regret not waiting for the OLED switch and am now stuck with the non oled switch.
Hope the wait isn't too long.

        • every new release i've seen is compatible so far

  • Is the screen coating worth it on the 512 GB model?

    • I have a Switch with a tempered glass screen protector on it, sometimes you need to angle it in the right way to see everything on screen properly. Like if the afternoon sun is coming in the window and I’m sitting facing the window, light will still bounce off my face onto the screen and it’s quite annoying. I just want to be able to pick it up and play without bothering with angling it properly.

For that reason alone the 512 gb is worth it to me, it’d be a nightmare playing outside or on a train or something with reflections bouncing everywhere. Maybe manufacturers will make matte screen protectors for it (unless they’re already available).

You obviously wouldn’t put a tempered glass screen protector on the 512 gb version, so keep in mind you’ll need to be careful with not scratching the screen.

I purchased a 64GB model for $759 from vchain (and a 512GB Sabrent 2230 SSD on Amazon) last night and I just received an email saying it has been shipped, tracking number too. Impressed and excited!

  • +1

I purchased 256GB model from Kogan, see if they ship tomorrow as showing on order page.

    • +1

      Yes. Also this: https://www.jackdeal.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=steam+de…

See my comment above regarding Expansys. Someone else on here used Jackdeals via Paypal without issue.

Frankly my opinion is that Kogan is hot garbage and not worth anything in regards to warranty, so you may as well go full grey market, save as much money as you can and pay via Paypal/Credit for some protection.

The Steamdeck is unlikely to need a warranty repair within 1 year IMO, and even so, it should be repairable by yourself if you can't claim a repair through the supplier as they are championing 'right to repair' with parts supply and so on.

      • Order the Jackdeal one via PayPal, fingers crossed it arrives without issue!

    • Although people say they are legit and receive the deck via those retailers remember that these are still no official Valve units sales in Australia.
So if someone says it is legit that does not imply that they are retail partners of Valve. They just buy it themselves, import and resell it here.

  • I cracked and YOLO ordered one last night, 512 gb, used discount I have via work.

Ordered 512 gb mainly for the matte screen, I have a Switch with a tempered glass screen protector on it and it’s horrible when it comes to reflections so wanted to minimise that problem, figured Valve’s acid etching would work better than a matte screen protector (if they exist).

Says it’s been dispatched in the Kogan app now.. I’d be surprised if that’s the case.

    • +1

Wow, lucky you! :) I purchased 256GB yesterday as well, no movement so far. Currently on their site it shows 'Ships in 1-2 business days' for 512GB while 256GB is on preorder. Looks like they have some 512GB in stock.

      • Yeah it must be because there’s stock of the 512 gb. I read Gaben himself said that the 512 gb model is doing well in terms of sales, but maybe the 64 gb and 256 gb are selling like hotcakes on Kogan.

        • Was your 512 already shipped/tracking number provided? I was just about to bite the bullet also but now this one says it wont ship until 13th of March =( (The other 2 models still say Feb..)

EDIT: Oh nevermind, refreshed in realtime and back to 10th of Feb. Nice ;)

Just purchased a 64gb for $699 from Catch, not sure of delivery times but happy to wait! I haven’t seen cheaper?

    • Probably cheapest just briefly looking at past posts here. Let us know how it goes! What charger they sent, delivery time, etc. $700 is pretty tempting for me 🤔 (or 800 for 256)

      • Just got a message saying it’s shipped, super quick. So not bad for $699.

        • You ordered ~4 hours ago and already shipped? Hard to believe, but hope they are not lying :)

          • +1

@raspudala: They likely just got the shipping code ready and it sits in their warehouse until it gets picked up. Otherwise the docket is lodged. Pretty common.

        • Got tracking number as well, fingers crossed it will be picked up by delivery company soon. Only worry is that courier company is listed as ec-parcel, never heard of them before.

          • @raspudala: Same here.
Just got the tracking number from unheard ec parcel. And the no results on track page yet ..

            • @angelsdsd: There is zero information about Meta Trader Company and ec-parcel on Google, looks suspicious :(

              • @raspudala: Let’s see. It’s through Catch anyway so it should be covered if it does go wrong, hopefully not :)

        • Was your shipped via ec parcel? Have you got any movement on the order so far?

          • +1

@angelsdsd: Mine was ec parcel, it changed to "Document received by the courier', so some movement at least. I suspect they're shipping from China etc., was hoping it was local stock, oh well..

Edit: oh, just realised you probably asking Dekard06, would love to hear update from him as well..

            • @raspudala: Yeah, to the Dekard06 as his/hers was earlier than ours :) mine changed to document received by courier too.

              • +1

@angelsdsd: Yep, just checked, same, documents submitted to carrier. Now we play the waiting game…

                • +2

@Dekard06: I have sent a message to seller via catch on couple of questions and will report back if I hear from them.

                  • +2

                    @angelsdsd: The seller replied below:

                    Hi,

                    1. Every orders is shipped from our Melbourne warehouse within 3 business days upon order received. Delivery lead time is estimated within 5 - 7 business days after order dispatch.

                    2. AU charger is not included. You can charge the device with any 45W chargers / adapter.

So it a local stock but won’t have a AU spec charger. Anyone in Melbourne should be able to get it pretty quick I guess.

        • My status changed to "In Transit to Destination", but only in mobile app, website doesn't reflect this. Hopefully will be updated to 'Onboard for delivery' so at least I know when to expect it.

          • @raspudala: My is still on parcel collected by courier, which was updated last night and no more further movement yet. Are you based in Melbourne?

            • +1

              @angelsdsd: Sydney

              • @raspudala: Mine became in transit to destination last night too

                • @angelsdsd: I got another update, but strange one - before I had "Parcel collected.. -> Sorted -> In Transit" and now it changed to "In Transit - Sorted - In Transit". No idea what it means and why does it have two In Transit updates.

                  • @raspudala: It might be a middle sorting centre sits in between the 2 transit but I’m 100% guessing here.

Mine changed to booking arranged from transit and that term doesn’t make any sense to me at all. I’m in Melbourne not sure why it takes so long /so many steps to send the parcel from Melbourne to Melbourne lol

                    • +1

@angelsdsd: My updates are all over the place. I think they lied to about shipping from Melbourne warehouse, more likely it's from HK etc. and would explain all those multiple in transit and hubs.

This is how my status updates looks now, the order keeps rearranging, times changing etc, really weird system:

Feb 09, 08:10 pm In Transit to Destination
Feb 09, 08:10 pm In Transit to Destination

Feb 06, 04:13 pm Document received by the courier

                      • @raspudala: Wow, indeed that's super confusing especially the first few all had the same time stamp..
They might lie to that I tend to agree. Hope it arrives sometime next week, don't think it will be this week.

                        • @angelsdsd: All the same time stamps are actually current time when you open their status page and not the actual time stamp.
Yeah fingers crossed we get next week.

                      • @raspudala: Hi @raspudala @angelsdsd - How did you with the order? I ordered from Catch (Meta) on FEB 08 and i'm at the same point as you with the updates. I'm based in Melbourne. Cheers!

                        • @[Deactivated]: Still waiting, status changed to "Arrived Depot" so hopefully soon.

                          • +1

@raspudala: @raspudala - Thanks mate, will keep you posted if anything changes with my order.

                        • @[Deactivated]: @korhan1989, mine is couple of steps later than @raspudala’s, so still at in transit to destination. I ordered on the 3rd and Melbourne based too.

                          • @angelsdsd: @raspudala @korhan1989 @angelsdsd
I've been following this thread quite a bit as I've also ordered the SD around the same time you folks ordered it.
I received a Toll tracking number today saying that it's out for delivery, the sender's location is Hong Kong, so yeah, they did lie to us about where the package was shipped from..Hope you folks get yours either today or tomorrow, I'm in Melb.

                            • @Changy: Thank you @Changy.
I ordered on 3rd Feb late afternoon and also Melbourne based. The in app tacking still shows in transit to destination. Can I ask when did you ordered yours? @raspudala also received the same SMS this morning as posted in another comment. Great news for you!

                              • +1

                                @angelsdsd: @angelsdsd
I also ordered my SD on the 3rd of Feb, and it says it was despatched on the 6th Feb. I got a Toll tracking number this morning sent to me via SMS. I hope you get yours soon!

      • The reason I went with Kogan is because they explicitly say they add in an AU charger. That was the main reason I was waiting for an AU launch.. but if they’re adding in a charger then there’s really no difference except warranty.

I would be interested to know if Catch actually include a charger.

    • Cancelled my order with Kogan due some issues with delivery address and reordered 64GB version from Catch as well. Now to find 1tb SSD for a good price.

      • I'm exactly the same. Just got a 512GB SSD from Amazon (US).
Let's see when the SD will arrive. Mine hasn't been shipped yet and guess will see what happens early next week.

  • Received tracking earlier this morning after ordering a 512GB model last night. Feeling the most excited I've ever been about new tech. So many things to do with it!

I hate having my PC on when just relaxing with an indie game, so I think this will be a gamechanger for me. Also can look into emulating titles too.

Don't know if/when the SD will make its way here, but I don't think the price will be too much different when it hits shelves here.

Edit: Also purchased a 1TB SanDisk Ultra SD card off of Amazon. Read that load speeds don't vary too widely.

    • I ordered a 64gb soon after this was posted and just got a message that mine won't ship for another week. And now the price has dropped as well.

  • +2

Got mine a month ago.l from eBay for around $760. Installed a 512gb SSD. Man I love this device. Can play AAA games without any issues and the graphic and screen quality is surprisingly good. Plus the support of emulators and ticketing. Very happy in general. For those who are considering, I think 64GB is fine, microsd is not that slow either plus you can upgrade the SSD.

  • Ordered one through VChain on 2nd Feb. Recieved a tracking code on the 3rd. Fingers crossed I get it.

    • Yeaaahhhh, i ordered mine the day before you and it still hasn’t actually shipped yet. I think their equivalent of “dispatching within 2-4 business days” is them just registering the tag with Aus Post. Hopefully it actually gets moving soon.

      • +1

Ordered on the 3rd from vchain. Auspost says they have it but hasn't shipped yet

        • Which model was this? I ordered the 256GB on the 1st and it still says “Ready for processing” for me

      • Auspost just updated. Delivery expected 9th Feb.

        • May I ask which model this is? I’m concerned they’ve sold me stock they don’t have, as now their listing has dropped

          • @Bohlin: Mine was the 256gb as well. Looks like mine has some more movement. Is in Victoria now

            • @spk123: RIP, idk how, but you ordered two days after me and you're gonna get yours before me hahaha. I think I'm cursed, first Kogan and now VChain :( Doesn’t look like mine is even in the country yet sadly

          • @Bohlin: 64gb

  • Just got email from kogan they eta has changed from 10/2 to 22/2 so cancelled and placed order with jackdeal.

    • This must have been a bluff, after cancelling yesterday they suddenly have the 64gb in stock ready to ship in 1-2 days at a higher price lol

  • +3

My 512gb model arrived today. Timeline for anyone wondering:

Feb 3 1:57 am - Ordered on Kogan
Feb 3 12:35 pm - Shipping information received by Australia Post
Feb 3 6:24 pm - Received and ready for processing
Feb 6 7:58 pm - Item processed at Sunshine West VIC
Feb 6 10:40 pm - In transit to next facility in SE Melbourne
Feb 7 1:26 pm - Onboard for delivery
    Feb 7 4:46 pm - Delivered

I also received a 45W Cygnett wall charger, which is white, and has no cable, so that kind of sucks lol. Luckily I have a couple of USB cables sitting around and a Switch charger.

    • Was this through vchain?

      • No, just Kogan.

I guess they just have stock of the 512gb model, which is why it shipped so quickly.

    • Thanks for this. Useful to get a rough sense of the timeline (or at least 'a' timeline).

I ordered the 512gb version over the weekend. Received a notification on Monday from Austpost that it was ready for processing, but haven't received any updates since then.

      • +1

Cool, I must have waited just a little too long by ordering mine on Monday morning.

Been zero activity for me at all and it's still sitting on 'payment processed' for 3 days now :(

        • +1

Just checked the tracking then and it has changed to 'item processed at facility'.

          • +1

            @G-Dawg: Grats!

Waiting for this is getting harder now that I just picked up Hogwarts, and things like Midnight Suns just got Deck verified the other day 😅

            • +1

              @Stoibs: 😂 I can definitely relate.

I've been obsessively checking the tracking website and looking through the games in my library that are verified.

              • +1

@G-Dawg: Refreshing auspost every hour lol. I think I'll get mine tomorrow or Friday. Annoying though won't be able to play Hogwarts until the 11th unless anyone knows a way around it?

      • +1

        Mine arrived this morning.

I ordered the 512GB model on weekend and it arrived today (Sydney).

Unit came with Steam Deck charger with US pins and this Cygnett 45w charger.

        • +1

Knowing nothing about the charger or what cables it needs, do you know if it matters which USB slot you charge it from?

          • +1

@Stoibs: I checked and there appears to be only one port; a usb C port on the top.

So I believe that means the answer to your question is 'no'. :)

            • +1

@G-Dawg: Cheers (My status changed to 'processing at warehouse'! getting closer :P)

              • +2

@Stoibs: Not sure if your question was answered properly; on the Cygnett charger there are two 45W PD USB-C ports, it's probably best to use those ports to charge the Steam Deck. You can probably use a USB-A to USB-C cable for the other ports, but it might not be enough to charge the Steam Deck when it's on.

I use a Switch charger for my Steam Deck and it's been working fine.

                • @Ghost47: Awesome thanks, good to know.

                • @Ghost47: Oh! Yeah, you're right. I didn't read @Stoibs question correctly. My apologies.

                  Thanks @Ghost47

                  • +1

@G-Dawg: Hehe all good. Yeah that's sort of what I was curious about, not that I'm complaining but I found it a little weird that Kogan would splurge and give us a multi-port adapter like that instead of just a single USBC-to-Wall charger.

Mine has shipped! Delivery by early next week 😃

                    • +1

                      @Stoibs: Nice!

                      It's a cool device.

Yeah, I had the same reaction when receiving the second charger.

Unfortunately, I have too many of chargers so have to get rid of it — preferably in a way that doesn't contribute to landfill.

                      :P

  • Anyone ordered on catch of the day received yours yet?
I ordered mine on the 3rd and it hasn’t arrived yet. The courier used is ec-parcel and the tracking info doesn’t make much sense. Fingers crossed it arrives sometime next week.

Not yet, but I’m in Perth…

Mine changed to "Arrived Depot" on Friday, hopefully it's in Australia now and ready to be delivered.

Got SMS this morning that parcel was loaded to Toll vehicle for delivery today. Entered provided tracking number into Toll tracking and it shows that parcel was sent from Hong Kong on 8 Feb. Not 100% sure if this is Steam Deck, but weight is 1.7kg so must be it :)

I also ordered 1TB SSD, but it can't be this heavy :)

      • That’s a great news! Please let us know what’s in the package :) That’s super exciting for a Monday!

      • Should be it mine days 1.7kg on package when delivered
