    100/40 $76
    250/25 $84

  • Do some of these new plans allow you change your speed for 24hrs is it only this company? Also what do mean by “unused days roll over up to a maximum of 30 uses” what are the conditions of this and how does it work?

    • +10

You get 5 free boost days per month. If you don’t use them they will go into your speed boost bank which allows you to keep max 30 boosts to use in the following months.

      • Good idea. Thanks for the info

  • +2

Anyone else offering 100/20 for less than $80 no lock-in? these guys are rated 2 stars on productreview.com.au

    • More NBN if you have a CommBank card

      • +3

More is cheap but encountered frequent dropouts. Moved to Superloop and no issues since.

        • Oh, that's unfortunate. I've been with More for over a year and have experienced maybe 1 or 2 dropouts. Had constant dropouts with Mate. Both FTTP connections.

          • +2

@dealsforlife: The dropouts are not long, and you probably wouldn't even notice if you're not a heavy user and rely on internet for work. But its annoying even if you have to retry / refresh few times a day.

            • @expatOz: @3zzy thanks for your honest input. I am moving from More to Tangerine (More's sister company) because I'm closing my CommBank credit card and won't be eligible to access the discount anymore. Tangerine is offering a 100/20 plan for $62.90 for 6 months.

              • @dealsforlife: if you open up a basic debit card with them you’ll remain eligible for the deal

                • @theg00s3: @theg00s3 I don't need to make the payment with a CommBank card?

                  • @dealsforlife: I meant to say a commbank debit card for the More deal

                    • @theg00s3: @theg00s3 thanks. my question is - I need to make payment for the More invoice using a CommBank debit card, right? Or can the payment be via any other Bank?

        • +1

Have used Superloop for 6 months and More for 12, neither have any issue. Both are quite reliable in my area 2065

        • Me too. Also More had huge ping for most games.

    • Dodo is offering 100/20 for 75$ and Kogan roughly 78$ now

    • Dodo gave it to me for ~14 months or so for $70 without lock-in. Sold me a router that I don't need for 40 though (then again it's a good deal on a WiFi 6 Router if I didn't have a better one already).

    • +1

Yeah do some research on them first. I was with Exetel back in ADSL times… and they would offer some new deal where it was cheaper or you got "more" of something, but you had to pay a one-off (LOL) fee to upgrade. You didn't have to, but if you stayed on your current plan with "less" a couple of months later they'd send an email saying to upgrade or we'll have to charge you more. You were safe in the contract period, but once that ended, the constant "upgrade" emails started because they were constantly chasing new deals from telcos, so couldn't provide what you had yesterday for the same price. So you'd wind up paying less per month but a lot more over the long term due to the upgrade fees. And be punished if you just wanted to stay put and pay the same price - because we don't have that contracted deal with Telstra/Optus/etc anymore.

Also the "unlimited" never meant unlimited… They randomly emailed people "suggesting" they "find another ISP by this date. You got this email if you were one of the top few downloading "too much" (on an unlimited plan!) or just using it too much in peak time, or at 2am but without any pauses, whoever they felt like treating like a whack-a-mole that day… So it was impossible to know where you stood. Every month you'd be wondering will it be me who is asked to leave and have to spend hours researching prices and speeds and download quotas. There were people who had been with them for years, making only downloads like 5GB when their limit was 25GB, who would defend the company one month like, "But they keep giving us more - it's great!" and the next week sheepishly admitted they'd been kicked but hadn't changed their online behaviour in five years!

Maybe they don't still treat customers like garbage, but when John Linton I think was his name died, people were hopeful some of that foolishness might change. He seemed to have some serious mental problems. He would literally search for negative reviews or comments about him or Exetel, compare it to the Exetel logs and work out whose account matched the post, then kick them off out of revenge!

I had already left when he fell off the perch, but a few years after I saw a deal and asked if this kind of behaviour had stopped. The answer was: only partially. Maybe that has changed again for the better since then, but I would be checking first.

      • +1

They are owned by superloop now. I was with them not that long ago. They were a bit dodgy with the billing. I upgraded my FTTN to FTTP. After the upgrade, when FTTP was up, I called on the same day to cancel my FTTN connection. They reassured me that it would not be charged now FTTP is up, it would just ge dropped after a little while.

For some reasons they changed my username for the pppoe in the process (even though the old one works perfectly fine via FTTP connection). I realised that after a few days when I was going through my junk mail. It wasn’t highlighted anywhere that I would need to change it immediately after the upgrade beforehand and certainly was not expecting it.

Anyway, I ended up being charged double for the few days where I didn’t change the pppoe account, even though I moved everything to FTTP connection. Their excuse was “you were using both FTTP and FTTN connections”. It doesn’t even make sense. If it purely an issue with the old account still having traffic logged and they charge based on that, then the new account technically wasn’t ‘active’ by their logic and shouldn’t incur any charge.

That’s not the only incident either, my partner’s parents were charged for a mobile phone service they had cancelled (with confirmation email) for 4 months after. When they finally got confronted, they stopped charging but refused to pay back the amount saying “it’s not our fault”. I just LOLed

Cbf taking them to TIO. Left them after (of course…had to serve that 30-day notice when they advertise “no contract”).

So yes they are still dodgy…I heard superloop is being dragged down along with their very questionable business practices after they got bought out by superloop.

      • Pretty much ancient history.

The behaviour you described were in the ADSL days when data cost ISPs a fortune, those days are long gone.

John Linton didn’t like freeloaders, people sucking every last bit of data in the unlimited overnight period while being on the cheapest plan in those data constrained days. He generously rewarded loyal customers though.

Exetel plans are all unlimited now.

    • Mate is $79, but also offer $5/month off if you also have a mobile plan with them (Telstra network). They've been pretty good for us.

    • +3

Not sure why they would have 2 stars.
I've been with exetel for about a year now (FTTP) on their 100/20 and consistently get very near to 100mbit during peak times.
I can't remember if there have been any dropouts, but I don't think so.
Their website account management UI is really good too, not to mention the free speed boosts each month.
      0 complaints from me.

  • +6

I might give them another go at that price.

I switched from Superloop to Exetel last year after my 6 month Superloop discount ran out. I had zero issues at Superloop, but when I joined Exetel I had poor speeds and a ridiculous amount of drop outs every day. Only stayed with them for a few weeks before going back to Superloop and having zero issues again. I don't know if I just got unlucky or if that's the norm in my area.

They are supposed to be the same company right? I don't know why my experience was so different. I've heard mostly decent things about Exetel except for the ridiculous having to give a months notice before disconnecting.

    • +2

I was just from Exetel in WA, constant drop outs too and speeds would randomly fluctuate. Sometimes when I did the speed boost, my speeds actually dropped… Was on Fttn 50mbps lol. On Auspost broadband now and honestly can't fault it, super stable for me

    • +5

I went from SL to Exetel for the past 4 or so months, haven’t had any issue with poor speeds or drops outs at all. Honestly can’t tell the difference between SL and Exetel (which makes sense with Exetel using SL backhaul and links I would imagine).

      • Yeah, I was expecting the same when I moved from Superloop to Exetel. It was too bad to be true which I why I want to give them a 2nd chance.

        • Could it have been to do with your router settings?
I'm just curious because there seems to be a real mix of people reporting poor speeds/dropouts and others saying it's fine (I'm in the latter group)

    • +5

I've been with Exetel since July last year and have been pleasantly surprised with their service. No issues here (FTTP) and have decided to keep the service after the 6 month discount. I regularly churn between SL, ABB and mate depending on the discounts offered at the time.

    • My SL initial discount has ended. Only get 50/20 speed at my place, FTTN, and I don't use a great deal of data. Cameras, bit of Netflix occasionally, household wifi Meross/Xiaomi home etc, no gaming….

Looking to cut back on unnecessary expenses….but want reliability for cameras etc

Worth to just stay with SL or try Exetel?

    • Don't do it.

The speed is poor. The increase speed feature doesn't seem to do anything. And the constant dropouts. Never go back…

      • +3

I've had the opposite experience. Speeds are reliably good, no dropouts, and speed boost works fine.

    • I'm on Exetel 50/20 FTTC and haven't had any issues. Came from TPG and the speed is identical, except that Exetel offers the 24hr Speed Boost which works nicely when you want to download some big updates/games etc. I've had zero dropouts except when lightning fried my FTTC modem, didn't have any trouble getting Exetel tech support to log a ticket and NBN Co replaced the modem within ~3 days.

Customer portal is user friendly enough. Price is good. No complaints.

  • -4

    What’s the deal exactly?

    • +33

You pay less than the normal price for internet. Thanks for playing.

    • +14

That wasn't a very hard quiz

  • +1

I went to sign up via Whistleout the other day, but since the discount didn't show up, I gave up. I used this deal instead (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/756423) - over 6 months it works out better anyway, as the gift card is effectively a discount of $8.30/month on top of the base discount.

  • Man I am on 250/20… will give it a go going backwards.. not sure if worth saving $20 p/m….

Also does it port over like a phone does? I.e. will they contact more NBN to cancel my existing plan?

    Thanks

    • Depends if you’re willing to wait a couple seconds more to buffer! I wouldn’t since I love the speed

      • +3

Buffer what? What are you doing where you need 250 and would notice a drop?

        • +1

download all the internet takes some beffering

    • They may not contact more to cancel your existing plan. It's best to always make sure you confirm that your old NBN service is cancelled after your new one becomes active to avoid getting billed by both.

    • You’ll get 5 boosts a month on 100/20 to boost to 250/25 for 24 hours

  • +1

over 800 1* review for the company. I am not sure about their service.

    • +2

Not sure what the 1* reviews are for, but FWIW I've had Exetel services at 3 different premises (ADSL, VDSL and FTTC) and haven't had any problems. Customer service has been there when I needed it (rarely) and my services have been rock solid. Currently on 50/20 FTTC with Exetel and it's fast with no dropouts.

      • good to hear that you have good experience with them.

  • I left exet hell years ago anyone going their will wished they had not.

    • +2

Couldn't disagree more. I've had great service over the past year, no dropouts that I can remember, reliably reaching advertised speeds and speed boost function works fine.

  • +4

I am with Exetel for the past 4 years ( NBN 50 plan) and it has been good. Very rarely have seen any dropouts from their end. It's usually maintenance from NBN with enough notice so that we can plan around it if WFH on those days. Also happy with their tech service - needed some details to changeover from their supplied router to a WiFi 6 one and the tech was very helpful.
Just last month they decided to increase my plan cost from $49 to $59. Called them up to see I could get the promo 50/20, rep said sorry new customers only. Haggled for a bit and wanted to leave ( giving my 30 day notice) and finally the rep said the best she could do was go back to the old rate for 3 months. Have accepted for now but and am looking around for something suitable.

  • How far ahead could one set the activation date? Have another 2-3 months of Tangerine 100/200 for $62.90 left to go.

  • +3

Exetel still doing the you must provide written notice to cancel one month prior or be charged an additional month into their contracts?

    • +2

I believe so. Cancellation is 1 month in advanced

    • +1

Oh yeah I forgot about that gem.

  • No FTTC love??

  • +3

Fabulous. As a long term exetel user who just had a price increase this is pretty insulting. When my boost ends I’m out

    • Kogan still charged me the old price which is $3 cheaper than current price which is good but never seen any other promotion or speed boost etc at all for the last 3 years

    • I got the price increase notice too. But at the same time they continue charging me the incorrect price for years. In my favour.

    • swap companies, its free to do

  • +2

Superloop bought exetel for those swapping between. Network is slightly different but on parr with each other in reality.

Speed boost is great, works well from 50/20->100/40 for 24hrs. Takes 5 min to kick in.

Only issue I've had was a faulty nbn HFC booster a few streets away, and after calling it was escalated and fixed. Seemed to be affecting all my neighbours as well so no ISP/rsp specific

    • I had a similar issue with an HFC tap in the street at an old house. It was totally flooded and affecting about a half dozen houses. Was with TPG or maybe Optus at the time who were absolutely terrible support wise.

Took 3 visits from one of their "technicians", reinstalling attenuators each time with no improvement before they raised the issue with NBNco - they even tried to suggest it was my router causing the issue, which really pissed me off because I was even sending them short videos of the NBNco modem connection dropping out (which is in the chain before my router). Never again will I use TPG or Optus.

  • +1

I hated the constant network maintenance issues with Exetel and most of all I hate the 30 notice to disconnect. I'm got churning back to this mob.

  • +2

Avoid like the plague. Nothing but bad experiences from bad internet to not disconnecting my service and trying to charge me over and over again -_-

  • Any deals for the ultra fast plans? 600-1000?

  • Do these guys offer Static IPs?

    • Yes, at no extra charge.

  • +3

FYI Exetel does a credit check when you sign up

  • Does anyone know if Exetel provides a static or dynamic IP address thanks

    • +1

Dynamic unless you specifically request a static IP.

    • +2

Can offer residential static but i'd ring and ask we might be on an older plan. At the moment paying $69.95 unlimited static ip (ongoing no deal).
I can't agree with the people talking about dropouts, regardless of who your retailers are (Telstra, Aussie Broadband Exetel etc) the connectivity is via NBN so its all the same at least if you have FTTC or FTTP idk about FTTN etc. We have had no issues for 5+ years with Exetel same as people with other retailers its usually end user/equipment fault in my experience not the upstream.

  • My more comm bank discount's coming to an end. Invoice is till 23rd April. When would be the good time to switch?

Also, after this promotion runs out, can I go back to more with different account different comm banl card for discount?

    Thanks

  • I wish ABB would bring their pricing a bit down to around $80 mark for their 100/20. That way I can upgrade and stay with them. Currently on 50/20.

    • +1

I wish that they would bring all NBN costs down to a fair dinkum price and not what they think we can all afford to pay.

Not everyone is on the "average" pay. Decent speeds and data allowance should be affordable for all.

  • Warning. They put a credit check under your name .

    • -1

      Why is that an issue?

  • How long does it generally take to churn over if I signed up today? I've been using same provider for years

    • From previous experience it only takes a few days

    • +1

Churned within the same day - less than 1 hour after placing the order.

  • Fwiw I requested a speed boost at 8pm Saturday night and it didn't activate until 6am the next day.
Support have not been helpful at all.

  • +2

Been with them for ~20 years. No issues. Had to call them probably 3 times in that period. Every time I do a speed test (day or night) i get around 48/18 on 50mb plan

  • Just bear in mind you have to cancel 30 days in advance. For me that is a deal breaker, so for those hopping NBN plans for deals, just take note!

    • So does superloop

      • Is that stated anywhere on the Superloop site? They advised me "Services are charged monthly, in-advance, and will remain active until the last day of the current billing period" so that means, to my mind, you lose out on the balance of the month if you cancel too early.

        • Superloop does it a little differently. They charge you in advance, so if you cancel, the remaining is non-refundable, so it is similar to Exetel. At least for Superloop, as long as you cancel before your billing cycle, you wont be charged for the next month. If you search for "Superloop charging in advance" you should get a hit there.

  • I signed up for them last night and today I just noticed Shopback are doing $99 Cashback on Exetel at the moment. FML

    • That's via Econnex. You can't use the discount code with them, plus they're a PITA.

      • Ah right. Looks like they do 50/20 for 53.95. How are they a PITA?
