  • No luck with being an existing customer, discount only annual fee available for Suncorp Clear Options Platinum Credit Card with 120k.

  • Semi related to this card, but yeah I've churned through 5 different cards in the last year and it was time to churn through amex, but I got declined even thought I meet all their minimum criteria and nothing has changed since I last applied and was successful. Does Amex or other banks decline if you've churned too much?

    • check your credit score on veda

      • With Equifax my credit score is in the 800s. Credit score is tip top S far as I can see

    • 5 churns in a year may not impact your credit score a huge amount but in itself will be a red flag to the credit providers. I do 2-3 a year and have never had a problem.

  • How long is everyone waiting between credit card applications when churning (assuming you’re successful)? I’ve been doing 6 months but would love to cut that down. Credit score is currently “excellent”

    • I don't bother with waiting, probaably a month or two in between - at the end of the day it doesn't really matter too much. Churned about 5 in a year

      • +1

Didn't that affect your credit score? What is your credit score now after all the churning?

        • +2

10-20 points and then when i close them it goes up about 3-5 each time i close one

        • +1

Been churning for over 2-3 years and have a mortgage with 4 active credit cards. My credit score is still in excellent. I would cancel one, then wait week before applying for the next one but most often would have overlapping CCs. I would avoid anything with a credit limit over 15k and try to get it as low as possible when applying

      • How much money do you think you save doing this?

        • You get free holidays, free flights.
You're spending the money anyways - might as well earn something for it.

    • When I first started I used to wait a fair bit inbetween (and I stupidly used to keep each card for almost the year)
Lately I've been overlapping them (sometimes multiple) whilst waiting for the points to arrive

I assume people just buy discounted gift cards to hit the spend, and then resell on OzBargain?

It seems the easiest way to do it.

What's the most desirable gift cards?

    • +2

Anything through any form of portal you have or Woolworths / Coles / TCN gift cards. They often will have vendors like Good Guys, JBHI5, BCF etc…
They always have sales for 5-10% off and for Woolworths / Coles you can get 3-5% off their gift cards.

    • +1

You could buy $3000 of Woolworths Gift cards at a 4% discount through NRMA Blue (free subscription deal here)

Or if it's not a cash advance on the card, you could buy the discounted Eftpos gift cards at Woolworths/Coles.

Generally living expenses are going to exceed $1k per month anyway.

      • I am thinking just to resell at same price?

Do people on here but those at 4% off?

I would of thought like JB 10% off or something 😂

        • Generally Coles and Woolworths will have 10% off TCN/Ultimate Gift Cards, or 20x Rewards Points (or convert to Qantas Points), sometimes 15%. So that is around 10-15% discount in gift cards, but they are limited to specific retailers for non-essential goods.

Selling gift cards always comes with a risk, if possible you would simply put your normal expenses on the credit card to meet the spending criteria, most people would spend more than $3000 in 3 months, it would be rare for someone to spend less than this unless they are living at home and work from home and are incredibly frugal with no kids.

I had this suncorp card about 6 month ago. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670340
I can't find terms and conditions for a new customer. How long do I have to wait before I can apply for this Qantas one?

    • 6 months?

      • It's not listed in their t&c.

        • With some of the Citi cards, there is no waiting period. Maybe it's the same here?

    • Would like to know if you were able to apply again? I just cancelled my Suncorp normal Clear Options rewards card so looking to see if there's a waiting period to switch over to the QF Clear Options

  • Is it a card that can link to my main account?

I think ANZ frequent flyer black will be better if you spend $5k over 3 months instead?

Cheaper fee, 110k Qantas points and 1 Qantas points per $1 up to $7500 spending

    https://www.pointhacks.com.au/credit-cards/anz-frequent-flye…

    • Yes but for those who are in the 12 month exclusion period this is worth considering

    • +1

$170 for 110k Qantas point in the end… is this a deal?

      • I decided to go for it. I can easily spend $5k over 3 months and this has the best QFF point per $ and I'm a churner. Hope that helps

        • +1

i was thinking for my next card i might try the westpac altitude qantas platinum.
get 70k QFF points with $49 reduced fee(if you are westpac customer) and $50 Qantas rewards fee(what a joke they charge for this) so essentially $99 for 70k points - spend 3k within 60 days i think (which is achievable)

    • Could have been interesting, apart from the $325 fee incurred here with ANZ

  • Don't cancel the card until points are credited to QFF. If you cancel after spending $3000 and expecting points to be added to QFF it wont happen.

How do people handle applications when they already have a credit card open? Bank west was good because they ask in their application if you plan on closing another card when opening their card, but I’ve been declined for the Qantas premier card a couple months back even though my plan was to close the bank west card.

  • +2

Close the current card and have the closure letter and final statement showing a zero $ balance on hand as proof of closure if the new card application/bank requests for it. Never had to jump thru hoops like this until responsible lending BS became the norm.

  • I currently hold $30k total credit limit across 3 citi backed cards. I was surprised when the third one got approved, and I'm not willing to try my luck on a fourth!

    • Would you mind sharing rough figures for your salary / outgoings for comparison?

I have just applied for this with a $6k minimum and currently have $9k in credit from Amex Essentials ($3k) and Virgin Money ($6k). No home loan or other loans.

Salary of approx $90k excl super, total taxable income of approx $110k (capital gains / dividends, but not consistent income). Outgoings approx $1500-$2k per month.

Just trying to figure out how far I can push applications / how concerned I must be about closing a previous card before opening a new one.

      • +2

        go for it imo

        • I've already applied! Which will bring my cumulative credit limit up to $15k. Just want to know if I can push it further given Endolphin has $30k total credit limit, so knowing his financial circumstances will assist in assessing my position.

  • Anyone having issue applying for this card?
I'm getting directed to a page saying "Sorry this information is not available at this time." after I fill out forms and click apply.

    • +1

Same here – called 13 11 55 and they suggested applying at the branch.

  • +1

Is this a better deal than the suncorp card that gives 120,000 points?

    • If you want QAN point then i'd say yes.

  • Any idea of the minimum credit limit?

  • +1

Not that great of a deal… The St George Amplify CC is $99 annual fee for 60,000 QF points and is also 0.5pt per $1 spent.

  • I can only transfer the rent to BSB/AccountNo. Can I pay rent using this card without paying any fee?

  • +1

    capped @ $8000 *0.5 points is 48,000 points a year.
    hardly worth the fees.
only worth the 70k bonus if you want to open and close again :/

  • +1

has anyone been able to use Payall (free for now) or any other free service to pay their mortgage to get points? been renting for the past 5 years and just got a mortgage a couple of months ago and didn't even know about Payall or other services that let you pay your rent and earn points. kicking myself for that now hahaha.

    • The holy grail.

  • -1

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/612955
$99 fee for 60k points much better points/fee ratio

  • +1

I've just applied so touch wood. I've churned through St George, Westpac, ANZ, NAB in the meantime. Currently holding an amex (long-term hold) and Virgin Money (churner).

Got rejected for the Citi prestige so am holding off for a little bit before trying again. Want to wait for the Commbank Ultimate until I'm travelling. Next up is possibly Suncorp Rewards if we're allowed / if I like them, or otherwise Qantas Premier for 60k if there's nothing better. I'll be eligible for St George 90k Qantas points again soon, but they were a bit of a hassle to deal with and not sure if I can be bothered again.

  • +1

Applied for this one, autorejected at the very end. Since Suncorp Clear Options cards are handled by Citi, they probably already know that I have cancelled 2 Citi cards in a matter of a few weeks, which might have affected things. The Citi cards were not yet marked as closed on the credit scores as well.

Also churned a Suncorp card in 2021…

    • surprised that didn't happen with me, i closed a virgin money credit card a few weeks ago and still got approved with suncorp.

  • anyone get the bonus qantas points credited yet?

  • +1

If you've recently closed a Qantas or Citi credit card account do not apply as will be auto rejected . Basically any CC owned by NAB has the 6 months waiting time now .

    • I applied 2 weeks after I closed my virgin money credit card which is owned by NAB iirc. No issues, still got approved for Suncorp.

    • I have closed Citi and NAB in the last 6 months and was rejected for this card without any reason. I didn't any notification email for the rejection but when I called up after 1 week to check the application status CS rep told me the application has been rejected and a rejection email has been sent. Still waiting for their rejection email.

  • Has anyone had any luck with linking the Suncorp CC to zippay account? I’ve tried doing this but it comes up with error each time. Hoping to be able to pay council rates using Zippay and paying balance off using Suncorp CC to meet spend requirements. Thanks

    • Maybe Suncorp CC not able to do it

    • "you can't use Zip to make BPAY payments for credit card bills,"

  • Sooooo …. how long has it taken for other people to go from approval/conditional and uploading docs to getting their card in the mail?

    • 7 days

      • Took 3 business days to be approved after uploading the docs. It's been 7 business days since being approved and I'm still waiting for my card. This is the longest I've had to wait for the card to arrive in the mail.

        • mine was approved in a day, and shipping took about 6 business days, maybe a bit more. But yep this was the longest I waited for a card too.

Even worse now I have to deal with setting up internet banking, don't know if I have a telephone access security code so tried to find out today. Spent 30 minutes listening to elevator music and eventually gave up, gonna try again tomorrow.

          • +1

@Wimothy Jongingtons: I applied and and uploaded my docs last weekend and status tracker still shows "under review", haven't received any other communications from them asking for more stuff or issues. Didn't reckon Suncorp is that small of bank that they would have delays in processing applications.

            telephone access security code

Oh god not looking forward to that since I'm also not an existing customer. Might be easier to just open one of their free everyday transaction accounts and then use that to get into their internet banking and activate your actual credit card.

  • Application process for these guys is ridiculous. Never had the run around with any other cards before. They don't know the difference between gross or net salary, even though my net is way above the required minimum anyway.

Now they want confirmation of employment even though pay slip says I'm permanent FTE.

    • That's pretty common though

  • Is this better or below is better

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/762921

    • +1

If you want qantas - this

  • I didnt choose a credit limit and they gave me $60k! Thats on top of the $35k I already have in CCs. In the future I'm always choosing a credit limit now, $60k is nuts.

    • +1

      always choose a credit limit…

  • Anyone that has had qff points credited yet? I'm up to my 3rd statement…

  • My super fund accepts credit cards for personal contributions. Anyone know if a super contribution will count towards the spend criteria?

    • Wow so the card doesn't treat it as a cash advance?

      • I just tested with a small amount and seems to go through as a regular purchase.

  • Bonus points showing in the first statement, but only regular points credited to QFF account yesterday.

    • +1

Same here, I’m going to be contacting them today

      • Let me know what the outcome is please.

        • It’ll be credited in the next statement period apparently

          • @citrusreduction: I’m in the same boat. Sorry a can you please clarify your circumstances / your comment?

            My statement received today says:

            Base Points earned 1,501
            Bonus Points earned 70,000

Then my QFF Activity Statement is only showing the 1,501 points. You contacted them, and the outcome is that the 70k bonus points will be credited to our QFF account on the next statement?

Anyone know if we cancel the card now, we will still receive 70k bonus points?

            • +2

@ts13: yes, the rewards customer service agent said that it would be credited next statement. But as for cancelling before receiving the points, I wouldn’t personally as it may risk not receiving them.

            • @ts13: I have the same, pretty rubbish having to hold onto it for another month if youre a churner. I might just reduce the credit limit to the minimum so I can still apply other cards.

              • @CheapBrah: Yep. Sucks. Mine was always at $6k min. I’m just sitting on it waiting for points to come so I can drop it. I’ve hit all the minimums on my cards so shame I can’t be spending on them towards mins for EOFY.

                • @ts13: Has anyone got their bonus points yet? My first statement showed the 70K bonus, but it has never reached my QFF account. Just received my second statement and the regular points have been posted, but still no sight of bonus points.

                  • @richrichie: Per this comment, I was expecting it to come on my second statement.

Maybe give it a couple of working days leeway? My points showed on my first statement but they weren’t credited. Hoping it will come on my second.

                    • +1

@ts13: Same it's been 3 statements for me. Had to call and now waiting for 10 business days for them to get back to me.

                      • @ilovefood12345: I was willing to wait one extra statement for the bonus but not three. I might call them to annoy them as well to get it sorted asap.

                        • @ts13: The T&C say 8 weeks from the spend being met. This card is turning into a mistake.

                          • @CheapBrah: yep my hubby also had so much trouble with redeeming points. defs a suncorp dud

                            • @ilovefood12345: Damn pity then since citi and NAB (which someone earlier said this card's under?) have always been same month statement payouts for me. Though maybe that's changed this year.

                              • @johnjones8: So was on hold for 1.5 hours today, 3 different operators and now waiting for 2-4 business days for another reply.

                                • @ilovefood12345: Suncorp moved their credit card call center to Philippines two weeks ago. Maybe the new agents are catching up. Give them few weeks.

                                  • @Sweetsugar: Funny that - my 2nd transfer was to an Aussie and I said I spoke with someone overseas and he was like 'all of suncorp staff are australian but are heavily multicultural.'

                                    • @ilovefood12345: I called them today and got through instantly.
They advised I’ll get points 6-8 weeks from meeting minimum spend. Sigh.

  • Bonus points can't be converted to QFF

    • Bonus Qantas Points not Suncorp Points

  • First statement (5 days ago) show the 75k + 1.5k points earned, but nothing in my QFF account.

Should I be patient or call them (overseas so can't really be bothered)?

  • This is starting to sound like a dud given you have to wait an extra month for the points. Slowing down the churn rate for what was a pretty average offer to begin with.

  • any idea how to link my qantas account to this card? apparently qantas account details wasn't asked during application and now i've received the card but no signs of qantas being linked
