Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions

Updates:

  • 27/06/23 2pm – Turkish Lira have crashed even more, so I've corrected all prices in this guide!
    • Original deal post rates: Basic TL₺63.99 (~A$4.06), Standard TL₺97.99 (~A$6.22), Premium TL₺130.99 (~A$8.31)
  • 07/07/23 2am – Updated FAQ section to include all error codes as a result of the 30-day local restriction lockout.
  • 08/07/23 11pm – Updated Instructions section to include a new sign up method via OlduBil's Turkish Virtual Mastercard (Instructions – Method #2), with screenshots (tested and confirmed). I'll be drafting another set of instructions to separate Method #1 (Part 2) as another sign up method via a Turkey phone number. Stay tuned!

You probably know by now - if I make a guide, best believe it's going to be good and better than the previous one. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

This new guide has now been updated to include:

  • problems related to new subscriber sign-ups to Netflix Turkey. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • new statistics in regards to pricing
  • screenshots at each necessary step of the sign up process (yes, I unnecessaily spent a chunk of money to test the local region lockout and to obtain screenshots to better guide everyone through the sign up process! I hope this helps - please see Instructions Part 3 for these screenshots)

Note that due to a recent and continuing crash in the Turkish Lira currency, the TRY-AUD is hitting an all time low. All prices in this guide are current as of 27 June 2023.

Netflix Post History Notes
09/06/2023 - This post Netflix Region Lock
28/01/2023 Price Hike
22/10/2022 Price Hike
14/06/2022 Price Hike
01/10/2021

Similar to my last post, I'm resharing this guide after previous deal post expired due to Netflix imposing a lock region lock. Luckily, there are no more price hikes for now, after having the third price hike for Turkey within a 10 month period.

  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they increased prices multiple times (Example: Premium plan from TL₺54.99 to TL₺77.99 to TL₺93.99 to TL₺130.99 in a span of just over a year).
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible, so avoid this path.
  • NEW!! Netflix Argentina is now ARS999 (A$6.10) for the Basic Plan and ARS2,399 (A$14.64) for the Premium Plan (in the last Netflix post, Argentina prices were ARS699 (A$4.27) for the Basic Plan and ARS1,899 (A$11.59) for the Premium Plan - that's a 42.9% and 26.3% increase, respectively). The Argentina Peso has dropped, but plans are still more expensive.

Please note: If you DO NOT have a Turkey number, please sign up via instructions Part 1 and then Part 3. Avoid doing Part 2

There are plenty of previous threads on users commenting their experience. Please read it if you are stuck. See here and here and here and here and here

Instructions – Method #1 (If you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month)

Please read the following instructions carefully.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Direct Method - No Gift Cards - MOST LIKELY TO FAIL - AVOID)

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix on a new tab and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method

Possibly working cards from: 28 Degrees, ANZ Rewards, Citibank Debit, Macquarie

Possible Problem: If it asks for a Turkish mobile number, you will have to find a working one so they can send you verification. AFAIK, there is no way bypassing this and you will need to sign up via Part 3

Part 3 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Using Gift Cards if Part 2 Fails) - EASIEST METHOD

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership)

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card (any value is fine, even if it's not enough to cover the full month)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery (at night time AEST), they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Australian account with a VPN on gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card See this screenshot:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

Possible Problem: When redeeming the Turkey Netflix Gift Card, it gives an error (code invalid, etc)
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed. If after several VPNs and this issue still occurs, try to reach out to your place of purchase due to them possibly issuing you an incorrect code

  5. Follow the prompts of the sign up process. This screenshot will show the first page after applying the gift card. Click "Next" to land on this page. Choose the plan you want, then click "Next" to land on the payment page in step 6

  6. Proceed by choosing a backup payment method. Be careful with this step and look at the screenshot!

  • If you did Part 1 instructions correctly then your payment method is already saved within your account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom. On the next page, click "Next" (see screenshot). Now Netflix will want to confirm your details to make sure it is correct as per (this screenshot). Double check, tick the checkbox and start your membership!

  • Otherwise, if for some reason you haven't done Part 1 correctly or your debit/credit card has expired, you will have to add a new debit/credit card (see screenshot). Beward this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification (which I guarantee you don't have otherwise you would have done Part 2) - if this happens, please complete Part 1 again (see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: If you bought a gift card that has a higher value than your selected plan, you’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

  1. You’re done! Turn off your VPN and enjoy your subscription :)

Instructions – Method #2 (If you want Netflix to charge your OlduBil Turkish Virtual Mastercard each month)

Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership).

  1. Log in to your Australian Netflix account, or sign up for an account. Make sure you log in with VPN turned off (logging into your Australian account with a VPN gives an error).

  2. Activate a VPN service, and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs, where possible.

Possible Problem: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  3. With VPN on, refresh the main netflix webpage. Alternatively, go to this link:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check and/or change your VPN if needed

  4. Click on "Restart Membership" and follow the prompts of the sign up process. Click "Next and then select the plan you want. Click "Next"and then click "Credit or debit card". Enter your OlduBil Virtual Mastercard details, full name, tick the T&Cs declaration, and then click "Start Membership".

  5. At this stage you're done. Don’t enter anything on this page. Netflix will ask some random questions (just to set up your account). After that, your account will be complete, and you can enjoy your subscription!

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: It seems like every new sign-up to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This can take anywhere from as little as several days to 30 days. There are many reports from OzBargainers and others reporting this error disappears within 30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise the error will pop up). Since this is only temporary, it shouldn't be a problem after 30 days or so, andthis small hassle is well worth the savings.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN for this

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely! See Part A

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: You can contact live chat and ask them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

    • The paid to date will not be a full month. you will be billed a full month when the TL₺100 runs out. (23 or 24 days)

  • Hey mate, awesome write up and help. Got the account sorted but am region locked also. I noticed that most people are getting a “Your account can't be used in this location" - Error S7111-5095” error.

Mine reads “Your account can’t be used in this location. For more info, go to help.netflix.com Code:3-0”. Have tried to search this error but everyone’s solution is to log out/in or to reinstall app. None of these have worked.

Have you seen this one before and is it just the same 30 day lockout as the other error?

  • I went through part 1 with the signup process and activated a subscription, but I had accidentally cancelled the sub myself before contacting Live Chat for a refund. I've got the refund back now but it's still saying I have a subscription for the month, would I be able to proceed with Step 3 still or am I going to have to wait it out if I still have access?

I should be happy with having a free month but I paid for the basic edition so I'm limited to ads :(

  • +5

@I Smell Pennies My region lock fell off after 6 days.

    • When did you signup? Were you previously an AU customer?

      • +1

Yes, a Long time ago. I signed up on the 10th June

        • what method did you use? gift card or secondary number as SMS verification?

          • @meong: Gift Card. Once it’s all used up it will just default back to my credit card

    • Thanks for reporting back! That’s fast!!

  • I was the 10th as well.. still locked

  • +1

Thanks OP. Giving this a go, it behaved a little differently and asked me for cvv for payment method but after some back and forward on the webpage it sort of became the backup payment and I got to click "Skip this Step", and got through and got it all to work. Now to play the waiting game. Just used the windscribe VPN addon.

    • Was this the gift card method (step 3) or cc method (step 2)?

      • Step 3 gift card method. Followed the steps but then in step 3 it wanted me to enter the card CVV after I picked sub type. Just sort of went forward and back until it recognised the primary payment method and the I skipped the backup payment method. Used g2a for a 75 tl Netflix card.

  • Is anyone here paying Netflix through Optus SubHub? If so, is there an easy way to remove it from SubHub?
I need to enter my payment details and I can't do that if it's still part of SubHub.

  • I can confirm that PureVPN has some issue with login while VPN ON, as well as sign up new account issue with its VPN. Alternatively, I used AtlasVPN to complete this sign up, Turkey VPN ON. I am a paid member for both PureVPN and AtlasVPN.

    • You're not supposed to log in with VPN on, it will throw an error @GoodDealDave

  • +4

I feel like the region lock issue needs to be made more prominent than the FAQ. Seems a major inconvenience if you’re viewing through chrome cast or something like that

    • I think it was visible enough for me…

However, i'm keen to know how many actually got the region lock lifted before or at 30 days…

      • Yes this is my point. There isn’t confirmation this will be lifted after 30 days. A few people already have said their’s did not.

  • I've been waiting for 2 hours for the gift card to be redeemed - has anyone else experienced this amount of delays? Tbf, at the time of posting this, it's 853am on a Saturday morning there. Ahh damn, just saw the most recent posts about the region lock error people are receiving too.

EDIT: have just read previous posts of some manual handling needed from Turkey. I GUESS I'll allow a 9am start. /s

    • I receieved my TL 200 Turkey GC code after 30 mins ordered from Friday night. No issue.

    • Its 10 AM turkey time plus however long it takes to get to it

    • UPDATE: Received gift card 3 hours later. All good!

  • Regarding 30 days lock period, does everyone use TL 200 Turkey GC code to sign in Turkey Netflix account then still remain lock-in without VPN after 30 days? I read related reddot post saying that, you need to get your credit card charged with Turkey TL dollars then you are unlocked? Is it ture?

    • @GoodDealDave I'll be testing that theory. See here

      • I upgraded to premium amd test it as well. I will keep it updated.

  • I just created a new account at the cheapest rate using option (b ) and plan to cancel and sign up again using a Turkish gift card…

But I have a question, once my gift card expires, will the system auto renew the following month and will it do so at the Australian rate or the Turkish rate?

    • @Gigrantor it will renew at the Turkish rate

  • Yeah I did 200 too so more than a month. Credit expires July. I was planning on using giftcards all the time. Maybe I should let them charge cc….

    • I only signed up to watch the new episodes of Black Mirror, Sweet Tooth and the Extraction sequel.

If I decide to continue after my first month I might just stick with the 1080p plan as it's a lot simpler to purchase the Turkish 100 lira than paying for an extra card just to cover me the extra 30 Turkish lira to get 4K HDR.

    • I did 200 G C new sign up as well. I wonder if you use TL GC all the time, can you watch Netflix without VPN?

      • Im thinking you should be able to once the region lock is over. Thinking a cc charge (1) might be needed to livk it in though first then switching back to cards

        • Good ideal of getting geo lock lift first then GC.

        • +2

@DavidFW1960 if the 30 day theory is correct, then my lock should be cleared in 3 days or so. If by then the lock is there still, I'll be testing the theory (like you stated) if whether a charge to the credit/debit card is what is needed to remove the region lock.

  • My code from Turgame finally arrived after about a thirty minute wait…

My code was accepted by Netflix and when I signed in the system offered to upgrade me to the 4K HDR plan which I accepted as I only paid for the standard plan with my 100 Turkish lira gift card.

Unfortunately the system won't let me watch anything unless I am logged in via a Turkish VPN as I keep getting the message below whenever I log in without the VPN:

Your account can't be used in this location. For more info, go to help.netflix.com

    • Same for all of us but still works quite well for me

    • Reports within the FAQ mention the restriction may be lifted within 30 days.

  • +1

Finally completed it. A bunch of side quests but I got there in the end.
Saturday afternoon: 3 hour wait for the gift card only for the code to not be accepted. I had to raise a ticket with Turgame with evidence and I woke up to a new code this (Sunday) morning.
Sunday morning: New code wasn't being accepted over a number of attempts with the error being something like 'can't redeem right now, try again later', so I switched from Windscribe to express VPN which worked instantly.
Now I have my fingers crossed this location restriction lifts within 30 days.

    • +1

Yes some vpn’s don’t correctly show the tr-en when you try and redeem the code. Torguard didnt work for redeeming either. Privado worked fine though.

  • -4

Warning. Did this last month and they locked my account unless I am connected to Turkey via VPN

    • +5

That is so weird that you experienced behaviour exactly as expected in the original post.

      • Just thought it was the same rehashed one again. My bad!

    Hi @I Smell Pennies
Just wanted to say thank you for this comprehensive post. I could only imagine the amount of time and effort that has gone into this to help our community. Signed up with NordVPN and went smoothly as per your instructions! Day 1 of up to 30
    Cheers!

    • -1

Are you using vpn to watch?

      • Nah I’m not, I mainly watch Netflix on my TV. I’m a bit lazy, so can’t be bothered to VPN my router, or use VPN on my laptop to watch

        • So this will supposedly work for one month and then get banned after 30 days?

          • @Jklaro: I think he's saying he's locked out like the rest of us. I'm watching on my TV via a chromecast running the vpn and it's working well (UHD)

          • +1

            @Jklaro: Yea sorry not clear
I’m locked out like everyone else. Expected to be unlocked sometime within 30 days. After that, happy days no need for VPN to watch Netflix

            • @superjquando: Ahh k. So within the first 30days your locked out needing through vpn after 30days you should have local Australian netflix without needing vpn use like normal through smart tv etc?

              • +1

@Jklaro: Yea, the only way to access Netflix in the first 30 days is to use VPN turkey. After 30 days, or earlier if the account becomes unlocked, can watch Netflix through smart tv without VPN.

    • Thanks so much for sharing your experience and your comment is so kind, appreciate it :) @superjquando

  • +2

Um, anyone here can confirm this "30 days" lock, or is it a "they say" thing…

    • there was just someone a few posts up saying they were unblocked after 6 days. I assume that is what you are asking?

  • I get the prompt “ Your account can't be used in this location. For more info, go to help.netflix.com“ after every steps. I have my number there and even my payment method. Anyone knows how to work on this?

    • +3

You need to use a VPN till the region lock ends. Did you read anything in this thread?

  • Any idea how can I update my credit card details? It asked for mobile phone.

If can't, I will have to buy gift card and redeem?

    • OK, from FAQ, I will need to chat with them to update CC, is it necessary to turn on VPN before chat with them?

      • +1

Chat with support without VPN, they saw the account with Turkey and asked about the country of the card, did I receive SMS, I said I didn't, I ask if it is possible to update the expire date from the chat? They said they can send me the form, if didn't work I have to contact my bank.

It was mentioned in an earlier post but just an FYI for those who are region locked for 30 days, you only need to connect to VPN when you start watching. Once the video is playing you can immediately turn off the VPN to continue watching.

I found that this also works for downloading shows to a device as well. Just connect to a VPN, queue up downloads to your device, turn off VPN as soon as the downloads begin and wait for it to complete. Now you can watch your downloaded shows without the need to use a VPN at all.

    • I use VPN to watch show from other country as you said, turn off VPN after streaming started but I can only get it to work on PC browser, how can you get it to work with Google Chromecast TV?

      • Load the vpn app onto the Google Chromecast TV …

        • I tried but switch between app will be a problem

          • @superforever: The switch between app isn't a problem so much as it stops streaming when you switch out of Netflix. I'm not having any issues streaming with the VPN on anyway

    • Definitely doesn't work with a chromecast and I can't work it with my PC either

  • When buying gift cards from Turgame, there are 4 credit card options. Any of it will do or is there a preference? Thks

Choose the one with the cheapest fee

  • I've followed Part 3 but it's asking me for a mobile number now?

      Hi. Either:

      1) You didn't do Part 1, or did it incorrectly

      or

      2) You pressed the wrong button in Part 3:

Step 6.

      • Thanks, i needed to skip backup payment

  • Thanks OP, signed up last night as it's getting too hard to leech off my family in another household.

Question - anyone managed to get this to work on Nvidia Shield and Windscribe? Turned on VPN to get the show going, but Turkish servers are extremely slow and would not buffer any more than 480p. Turning off VPN would stop the show and the geo-restriction would kick in again.

Appreciate any tips on this one. The Mrs is giving me endless grief all day.

    • Maybe try a different VPN… I am getting UHD Dolby Vision at night in the so called peak and you can't tell the difference. Could also be your internet. Have you run a speedtest through the VPN?

      • Thanks. Which VPN are you using?

    • I am using Nord and when I first play a title, resolution is around 480p but gets better in about 10-20 seconds and its UHD Dolby Vision..

  • According to Netflix Support via chat the new policy started 23/05/23 to stop accounts being accessed out the country where it was created unless you agree to restart the account in your current location. I'm not sure this 30 day lock out will be lifted?

    • So far I have no problem over a year.

    Update to my test account!!!!

    Original comment (24th May): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13791487/redir

I just transferred from AU to TR on a test account. On lockout with the same error:

"Your account can't be used in this location" - Error S7111-5095

I'll update on when this lockout period is over

Today (22nd June) my account no longer has the error (just under a full month??) and I can freely watch anything and everything without a VPN. I am free from the Turkey region lock Netflix has imposed on my new sign up account

    • That's cool, hopefully they won't try to stuff you around by charging you the new fee's that were recently implemented.

Thanks for this, it was the only thing preventing me from signing up. Glad to hear no more lockout!

      Some things to note:

      • Since it's less than a month, Netflix has not charged for the next billing cycle yet (so the theory that Netflix has to charge your debit card before the region lock is removed can be thrown out the window).

      • I didn't really watch anything during the period I was locked. I only went on every few days to check if it was still locked or not (not that it affects anyone).

      • I've been watching stuff nearly every day (since 8th June) & the Chromecast is continuously on the VPN so its ready to watch. (connected to Turkey)

I hope I am not delaying the lock? I check another non-vpn device each day & its still locked.

I had wondered whether my usage in Turkey is prolonging the lock?

        • What do you use on chromecast for continuous VPN?

          • +1

@CodeXD: There are 2 options: install one of the VPN apps directly on the CCast or (in my case) I have a separate router/Wifi point with the VPN connected on it.

I think with the app, you need a paid VPN service usually(?). Maybe some providers also wont give you the router config? Not sure.

I have both a paid and free VPN service (Nord and KeepSolid).

            Edit/note: I have GCC w GTV

    • Did you get cc charged before geo lock lifted or GC all the way ?

      • My account is paid until 9th July because I bought a 200TL card. But because I signed up on 24th May, my next billing date is 24th June.

Whatever the case, I am yet to be charged as the billing date is in 2 days.

  • Just signed up and I am getting a slightly different error code when trying to use it without VPN.

Your account can't be used in this location.

    Error code D7111-5095

Not sure what the difference is between D and S codes but will wait the 30 days and pray 🙏
