I must be getting old because I thought it looked just fine.. Would be happy to bang around in it.

Would be happy to bang around…

Back seats look a bit small eh

      • +1

Ah yes, I do the sex all the time also. And around my car is my go to spot

      • -2

I must be getting old too. It doesn’t look bad at all.
Plenty of space to bang around.

      • +2

gets you from a-b ….. shape space and size are trade offs u less you have a tardis so,you get trade offs …. for me it’s internal space and visibility out the windows …..no mortgage, money in super, don’t need a flash car to attract the gold diggers

        • i dont think the ladies are lining up to steal your gold by the sounds of it. You need more than a flash car to attract woman.

          • @[Deactivated]:

You need more than a flash car to attract woman.

But that's all you need to attract a gold digger. You assumed all "woman"?

  • +6

I thought Teslas looked ugly but this is even worse

    • If Tesla's look like a big toe, then what is this?

      • +4

        Ingrown toenail

      • Moose knuckle.

      • They are more Darkwing Duck than toe for me. One thing is for sure… they ugly.

    3k rebate - NSW/VIC/SA
    6K rebate - QLD

    • +4

Isnt VIC stopping rebates after June 30?

      • Yes that's right. This won't apply to vic orders as the discount is applied after the car arrives at the dealership and you're about to pay for the vehicle (point of sale)

        • You have until 30 June to make the purchase and they'll honour it.

      • WHYYY

        • +4

They need tax money for useless shit

    • +2

      so buy in QLD?

  • How much is this normally ?

  • +25

I love how MSRP is considered a deal these days.

    • +2

That’s because you usually can’t get a car shortly with its MSRP

      • +12

It's 4-6 months away from delivery. Just like many other cars currently.

Unless something is discounted, it's not a deal.

      • +2

You cant though, there is a wait time on these too.. Not a deal.

      • You couldn't 1.5 years ago. Now it's much better.

    • It's the new Oz"bargain"

    • How's the car market

    • +2

When you can see a car stealer charge more than $11k for a Toyota CH-R, MSRP absolutely is a bargain !!!
      https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2023-toyota-c-hr-gr…
I wonder if there's really stupid buyers will pour their cash into the sea like this?

      • more than $11k for a Toyota CH-R

Car you linked was nearly 55K. You saying it's worth no more than 11K or they're gouging on top of MSRP? Because it's been this way in the UK/US for decades.
Without consumer laws in place to prevent predatory pricing strategies, these multinationals will always take advantage.

        • +1

Sorry I mean they charge $11K more on top of MSRP which is only $43K

          • @kaikor: Cool, but it's the GR (Gazoo Racing) version, so that's supposed to be special lol?

  • Limited Edition - Unlimited Ugly!

  • +84

Looks fine to me. It's basically a city car. Acceleration is a bit slow for the base model (a lazy 12.3s/100km), but people rolling around our cities probably won't mind too much.

Bring on the EV competition. The more the merrier.

    • +28

I don't get all the ugly comments either.

      • +28

        what's not to get

ozbb is a microcosm of australian society and they're soaking up the Chinese phobia stirred up by traditional media

these people need an enemy in their lives so i get it

        • +1

This site, based on the deals, votes and comments, has a big Chinese presence (CHinese-Australian).

Anything negative about China or its products is downvoted.

          • -3

@ram4ram: Even worse if you lay down concrete hard evidence as to why BYDs are an absolute hazard as evident by the numerous cases of it just exploding and catching fire, you will get smashed by the Nationalist Wumao 50 Cent army and you will be called a racist.

        • +2

Objection your honour. Facts not in evidence.

        • -1

Yeah, it's just mainstream spin. They definitely are not conducting a massive military buildup with the clear intention to attack a neighbouring country….. And dictators ALWAYS stop at just one don't they?……

        • +1

Anti-fascist Ozbargainers (even if most of the stuff posted on here is made there).

    • +5

Couldn’t agree more, it’s just a vehicle for going around the city, I don’t mind the cheap car with any brands.

      • +1

This is the Lada Samara of our time.

    • +4

Happy to see more EVs especially more affordable ones like this, but saving cost to limit the charging speed at 60kw is a really bad and irresponsible practice, the charging time is doubled comparing to mid tier EVs take 100+ kw fast chargers not to mention 350kw super fast ones.

Think about during holiday seasons you are waiting for this thing to charge 60 mins but yours can be done in 15mins.

      • +1

Cars like this certainly aren't for everyone, and I would be hesitant to take it on a holiday road trip.

        • +1

Agree. Target market is surely city dwellers who are already a one vehicle household upgrading to this. Then hire an ICE vehicle as required for longer road trips.

          • @drprox: The goal is to have EV only not as an addition to an ICE.
Every EV should have the capacity to fast charging otherwise it’s waste of public resources and not environmental friendly.
I hate companies selling incompetent EVs to the market just for the market share.

And, I have seen many times Nissan leaf having road trip. So many people WILL take it for travel. You never know.

            • +1

@NoBargainNoLife: As has been mentioned, this car's sole purpose is as a city car.

If you buy a little petrol city car to act as your runabout, you're likely not also using that to go on an 8 hour driving for a camping trip.

While it'd be great to have faster charging, it probably isn't necessary for 90% of scenarios.
You'd be driving around the city during the day, then charging the car overnight - every morning you wake up, you've replenished all the range you'll need for the day ahead.

              • @Deviner: I drive a model 3 I know exactly what you mean. The main argument is that I don’t believe it’s too costly to have faster charging capacity, they chose to save cost on this part is really bad gesture and fast charging should be set as mandatory standard in my opinion.

Regarding your comments about charging overnight at home, you are right many people buy this affordable ones to drive around city BUT it also means very likely they live in the city apartments don’t have a garage or charging facilities at all. They reply on public fast charger charging every week or so. In Canberra the two Tesla supercharger stations are always full let along those third party ones open to any brands. It’s also the same issue in Sydney.

Ultra Fast charging is the ultimate and the only way to roll out EV in the future. I am dreaming to get 0-100% in 5 mins then no one would miss ICE anymore.

                • +1

@NoBargainNoLife: Yep, I think in a perfect world, the car would be kitted out with better charging capabilities.

They probably had a price point they were aiming at for the given market of a small city car, and assessed the needs/wants of the stereotypical city car driver and came up with this solution.

I've a M3P for around 2 years now and I think I've got to a SC on three occasions, and a public charger maybe twice - I do have more range than this BYD though.
I live in the suburbs and travel into the city, so I don't necessarily need any kind of fast charging.
Admittedly, I'm not the tarket market and there might be some challenges if you live in an apartment complex and solely rely on public charging, as you mentioned.

But I reckon people would rather charge a bit slower on the 1-2 occasions they need to charge per week, over a more expensive EV (or an ICE where each trip to a petrol station adds up as well, or contributing to the pollution in a major city (if that's your reason for purchase)).

                • -1

@NoBargainNoLife: Need to be 3 minutes. I can fuel up my RAV4 in that time and get 1000km range.

      • How long would this car take to charge on a normal power point? Say at a powered site in a caravan park?

        • +3

Normal GPO is 10A. I get about 1.9Kw/hr into an EV (after losses etc).
So the smaller 44kWh battery would take 23 hours to get from 0-100% (assuming you drain all the way down to 0% of course) and the larger 60kWh battery would take 31 hours to get from 0-100%.

If you found an outlet at a caravan park that had a higher rating (and you also had a suitable cable/charger) - say 15A, then the charging time would be roughly 2/3 of the 10A time.
And if you found a 32A socket and could charge at around 6.8kW/hr, then you would be looking at around 7 hours or 9 hours depending on which size battery you have.

      • -1

Add to the equation for daily use.

To fast charge with Solar, which is the most economical, requires you to have a storage battery or two.

eg a Fast Charge Tesla can draws 10Kwh from your power. A Telsa Battery can only supply 5Kwh at a time, two Batteries can do the 10Kwh.

So Solar needs to be at 5Kwh output when you have a battery which supplies the other 5Kwh.

If not power is taken from the grid at Grid prices.

Remembering one Powerwall battery is $14K

        • +1

          Talk about fear mongering.

Are you honestly saying, for daily use, you "need" to fast charge and the most economical way is to buy 2x 14k Tesla Powerwalls and probably another $5k on solar….?

      • +1

The base model is 60kw , the higher specs are iirc 90kw

Tbh i cant envisionage people doing all that many road trips in a base spec

    • 12.3s/100km is pretty fast.. 28,571.4286kmph fast

  • +2

    This makes Teslas look good

    • +6

you can blame the Libs for that… "wreck their shit"… seems to be their motto…

    • +4

Please…China is 2/5 parts Communist at best…. Probably not even that.

      • +3

well let's not get hung up on semantics

you cant expect the avg. ozbb brain surgeon to know that its really a centrally planned hyper capitalist surveillance nation

also we sell $150 bn a year of raw materials to them and we buy $50 bn in finished goods back (like this above pile of Dolphin shit)

as long as this painful relationship continues we got no F'ing hope

      • +5

You wanna complain to the CCP, just book a flight and go there. This company has nothing to do with CCP or the Chinese people. Stop with this sinophobia behaviour.

        • +3

People are usually fine. Govs are the prob.

        • -1

Do you recommend wearing a Winnie the Pooh & Tigger t-shirt on 4th June in Tiananmen Square as the best time and place to complain to the Chinese Communist Party?

          • +1

@mathew42: Why don't you go and find out yourself?

  • +9
    • Wow

    • +12

Surely dumbest video ever? at Holdens peak, they had thousands cars sitting outside the factory, same with Ford.

      • +8

They aren't waiting outside the factory, they are dumped across the entire country just like the ebikes were to inflate numbers

        • +3

Best to practice a bit of skepticism here. You'd think they'd sell for cheaper price than just leaving it in the field. would take that video with a grain of salt, something not adding up.

      • +4

This is not waiting to go to dealers or export… They are being dumped… Left to rot so they can get gov subsidies… This has been going on for a long time in China

        • unless gov subsidies are higher than the cost of making a car, which is unlikely.

          • @madanielong: The subsidies is not per car… They need to reach numbers … The cars are registered so cannot be exported.

      • +2

exactly, they would do exactly the same here today if they had the chance

    • +23

Classic questionable youtube. Big on accusations, light on evidence, high on scare mongering.

    • +2

Oh damn, companies looking for profit. I guess you don’t like any company that targets profits then!

    • +1

Yes, the video is shocking, but for me there is not enough information to say that BYD is the bad guy although it may well be. Suppose it happened this way: The cashed-up car share Ponzi scheme ordered 50,000 BYD electric cars for delivery in x months. BYD begins manufacturing cars as per the order. Before delivery, the Ponzi scheme goes belly-up, all money is lost and so no money to pay for the order. By the time BYD discovers that the money is irrecoverable, they have 1000's of cars that are not the latest. What do they do? Flood the market and drive down the price of their vehicles? Or claim the loss as a tax deduction? Or something else?

I would love to know who the really guilty party is here, and it may be BYD, but not enough info for me.

    • +5

Why are you getting your news from a South African who who makes China bashing vids on youtube for a living? I would debate you on his claims but you cant argue with stupid.

      • +2

Dont know him personally so will not vouch for him. Although, I've watched his vids on/off over the past few years.

He moved to China when he was younger and made a career in teaching. Married a chinese medical doctor. Got fed up with the constant CCP harrasment and left the country with his wife.

So yeah, I tend to agree with his views rather than MSM.

        • +1

A career teaching in China is actually a one week TESOL course. No degrees or real qualifications. And a youtuber with a grudge is not the alternative to MSM unless you've already made up your mind and would prefer to live in that echo chamber.

    • +3

Seemed interesting, but the majority of that dude's recent videos are all just shitting on China for one reason for another.

      Hardly an unbiased source.
