This is no deal. Just marketing RRP. Why is it being upvoted, besides 'fans' with an agenda.

    • +6

You are clearly the one with an "agenda", based on your 6 negative comments already.

      • tell us about your agenda. most of your recent posts are pro china and anti western world/media. is that you Xiongmao?

        • My "agenda" is to shine a light on banal or erroneous posts - and yes, yours qualifies under both headings.

Why don't you post some links to my pro-china and/or anti-western world and media.

  • +2

This is pretty ugly ngl. But the BYD Seal when it comes is gonna be pretty awesome and competitive pricing hopefully.

  • +2

who came up with their English name… was the person proud? Lol
Their Chinese name says nothing about "build your dream".
Just the stupidity of the English name puts me off…

  • +3

not a deal. these RRP posts simply promote the brand's product on this site for free. Only bargain here is BYD saving on marketing costs

  • +7

It's meant to be OzBargain, not Oz"I think the RRP for this product is reasonable and represents good value".

  • +1

Overall you get what you pay for, a small battery, low power, good for 1 or 2 people as any more and you will kiss that ultra fast 12sec acceleration and their quoted range goodbye. Service for these BYD is similar to ICE vehicles too.

  • +8

pre-ordered the premium version tonight for my wife, who will be using the car for kids school run…. looking forward to Sept/Oct :)

originally ordered a corolla ZR hybrid hatch back in Dec 2022 but dealer has no clue of when the car will arrive….don't want to wait any longer…

    • Nice congrats. Btw do you know if this has ancap rating?

  • -1

I prefer cars with under 5 seconds 0-100km acceleration

    • buy the EV6 GT

  • +6

Shopped around a few weeks ago, isn't this RRP?

  • +1

Great car and more affordable car. I just travelled in China, quite a lot of DIDI driver using BYD vehicle here.

  • The colour choices are quite something. Sand white, Gray, Purple and Pink.

  • +2

I'm still waiting for the car for freedom, the car for hot excitement, the car for the man who is alone against the elements. The Maibatsu Thunder. Because after you get struck by lightning, there's thunderrrr.

  • 0-100 acceleration > 12s for an EV, nearly double the price in China… ok

  • +5

FYI, this one is nearly double the price in China where it’s 20K dollars.
Personally, I am disgusted at BYD. I worked at one of its contractors supplying some components. This company NEVER pays the money on time even if our work is done. In the meantime, it asks for more than what it pays.
Generally it will pay the money half a year later or much longer, which will be a disaster for small businesses.

    • +2

And yet, you gave the deal an upvote….

      • How did u draw this conclusion? There are downvotes, one of which is mine.

  • +2

Would this car work out to be $32890 after the $6000 rebate in QLD?

  • +1

BYD - Bring Your own Dolphin?

  • +8

Prefer the MG4 personally. Lacking a little in the tech features of the Dolphin but bigger battery, more power and RWD.

And at the end of the day, I’d rather not deal with EV Direct or any company Luke Todd is associated with!

    • +1

      What about him?

    • +2

the MG4 is no brainer compared to the Dolphin. For this price, i don't care so much about tech, as long as there's android/apple auto, it should be ok.

    • What has Luke done? I’d love to know

      • +3

He's acted like a 'typical' car salesman. Generally overpromised and underdelivered. On delivery times, pricing, servicing details, vehicle specification and loads more. You know he's lying because his lips are moving…

  • +8

If this is a bargain, shouldn't the mg4 be as well? Looks like the better choice in terms of specs for only $100 more. Bargain!

That $100 buys you twice the power! A bigger battery!

    • I wonder why the MG4 wasn’t posted as a deal then?

      • Prob because the MG4 is more expensive than this.
        “Australia’s cheapest ev”… for now.
When a cheaper ev comes along I’m sure it’ll be posted.

        • +4

Cheapest EV but I maybe not value, well only in terms of battery capacity and power…

Regardless good to have some competition!

          • @milobob: Value is subjective. As it’s been seen already multiple times in this post.

  • +3

We want to fund the enemy? No, don't do it, buy something European or Japanese.

    • +7

how long do you hold a grudge? Japanese/germans were the enemy once and last i heard we haven't had a chinese uboat in our waters yet

      • +2

That's a really good point. I'll let go once their government surrenders and we rebuild their country, like we did for the Japanese and Germans, how does that sound?

        • +11

A bit hard to surrender when you aren't in a war isnt it

          • +2

@May4th: Annoyingly, another really good point. Well played sir/ma'am/other. Mind you, a similar fate to the Soviet Union would do quite nicely.

            • +3

@conza: Are you saying you've never bought anything made in China?

              • +6

@WatchNerd: He is typing on it.

                • +2

@bbcw1980: lol, I'd hope he could get rid of all his made in china stuff that is produced by the 'enemy'.

  • +3

doesnt sound like a great deal compared to the atto3, for the equivalent range you are looking at only 3k more for a much roomier better looking car

    • The base model Dolphin is where the saving is. Quite a bit cheaper than the Atto 3, even the Standard Range version.
Yes, you are getting less car/battery, but there's quite a drop in sticker price also.

I agree with you though - if you go up the 60kWh Dolphin, you would definitely be looking hard at the Atto 3 for the price difference.
The only caveat to that, is that the Dolphin isn't all that much smaller according to the specs. Only 165mm in length, 100mm in width and almost nothing in height.
It will be interesting to see how this translates into real-world internal space. For example, do they take the 165mm out of the seats or the boot, and have they done anything different compared to the Atto 3 to make it closer still in internal size (or maybe worse). Very interested to see a Dolphin in the flesh (as it were) and compare to the Atto 3.

      • I suppose if you just need a city run around and don't care about range it's a much cheaper option. I read they overinflated the bumper size to make it appear a size class up on the dolphin - so likely to see more interior space in the ATTO 3. looks are subjective but I wouldn't be caught in a dolphin whereas the atto3 shape at least seems more polished

  • +4

    OzRRP

  • +8

RRP in China seems at $25k. Aussies must be crazy to pay $40k for this car. I’ll wait until the pricing isn’t that dramatically different.

    • +3

      it won't.
you have to pay all the taxes, tariffs, politicians, etc….
this price will probably be the lowest it would ever be, lol.

    • +2

Agreed. Australia GST is 7% lower, but labour cost for warranty would be higher and being a small market here unit cost is higher also.

A 60% mark up seems fat, it's probably just greedy local distributor taking their cut

      • +2

A 60% mark up certainly makes it not a deal.

    • you;'re dreaming
the onyhl way you're paying 25k is one with 100,000kms on it

      • +2

AFAIK BYD cars hardly keeps all right after 100,000 kms, it won’t worth a cent.

    • OMG finally someone else that sees this… this BYD should have cost half as much…

  • +4

0-100 12s in 2023 on any car is a crime, let along an EV. I would happily pay $100 extra for the base MG4.

  • very deceiving. the minimum i would buy is the 50k configuration, but that would probably be 55k out the door.

  • +3

This is significantly more than the forecast pricing, puts it on par with the MG. It may be reasonable value, but not a bargain.

  • +2

    Thanks OP, got 5

  • +1

So can u expect BYD seagull to be much cheaper on launch?

    • The seagull is not 5 stars safety rated, it will never come to Aus unfortunately.

  • Many have blown up in china, dont think I would ever risk buying a BYD

  • +1

This has the chassis equivalent of a 2012 Honda Jazz.

  • +2

Prefer MG4 with this price. I value more the battery size and engine power than gadgets.

  • +3

This is not a deal this is sockpuppeting. Please remove this ad only deals here

  • -4

OzRRP. Not to mention the EV hype is ridiculous. EV is not the way forward and is a big mistake. Give me an ICE or hydrogen power any day over this crap.

    • +2

Which hydrogen car would you get?

      • +1

Toyota's seem to be focusing on only hydrogen now instead of ev cars

        • +3

Toyota seem to have been "focussing" on hydrogen for quite a number of years now.
Haven't seen too much come of it so far.
Maybe it will still happen, but I suspect hydrogen won't get much of the research love compared to EV's over the coming years - much like battery tech stopped developing back in the early days of petrol cars and it has taken many years and a concern over climate for interest to be renewed.
I suspect if the battery side of things continues to attract interest, there will need to be an "issue" (eg, no more metals to construct batteries) for hydrogen to get more attention again.

        • +2

          Not at all.

On a global scale, Toyota plans to invest more than $70 billion in vehicle electrification by 2030.

          https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/08/toyota-to-spend-48m-on-new…

      • +1

I'm referring to the technology, not specific cars.

        • i think he is indicating there is none that you can buy…

          • @overlook: Well duh, that's pretty obvious. I'm saying EV is not the right way for the future of the automotive industry IMO.

    • -1

      ok boomer

      • +1

Quality comment right there. And fwiw I'm in no way, shape or form anywhere near being a boomer.

  • +7

This is ozbargain not ozcheap, just because it's cheap doesn't make it a bargain.

    • +4

Bingo. Most people don't understand the difference.

    • it is a cheaper car, but it is not cheap.

  • why pay 10k more compare to stonic? anyone educate me?

  • +4

As long as people keep shopping by price tag, we will keep having these CCP subsidise brands practically dumping in our country. Huawei, Xiaomi, GM, BYD… . how sad!!

    • +3

Not sad at all, a good product is a good product.

      • You guys think its a good product because it is cheap. They can be this cheap because of government subsides hen I call it dumping.

Then there is the national security issue. God knows what what kind of stuff CCP order BYD to put in the car?

Good product from CCP is usually a bad product for us.

        • +4

Lol, can we draw an equivalence, and say Australian product is bad for China, that they are paying for products from a hostile country and trade is bad for them?

Taking moral high ground is stupid, and will kill trade both ways - just happened with Scott Morrison and his time.

          • +1

@YRT: Not taking a moral ground is ok with you then? May be you support maintain trade with Russia from their blood money?

        • +3

Will my made in China iPhone, Ryzen CPU, Laptop, Dreame V12 and TCL TV has security issue? All bought from major retailer.
Don't know about BYD, so can't comment about it.

          • +1

@stevelo: iPhone is moving away from "made in china" which is a good thing.

I personally will not buy a China brand laptop, although my work one is a Lenovo, but that is out of my control. I certainly will not buy Dreame or TCL

            • @syswong: You should let’s your boss know stop using Lenovo, I believe your boss care about security more than me. I prefer made in Germany, Japan and Korean things, but most of the time they are out of my budget. I got Toyota if it make you happier.

      • This isn't a good product though. It's poorly made, performs poorly and is poor value for money.

  • +3

MSRP, still a wait time.. where is the deal?

Just be patient, car availability is about to improve a whole lot now that the government has significantly reduced the tax write off benefits for businesses. Give it a 6 more months into the new financial year and there should be no wait times on any vehicles anymore, except maybe the super popular ones still playing catch up like the 300.

  • +7

I own a byd atto 3. The name is cringe but I've been a bit surprised by how much I like the car. So much more comfortable to drive than the multiple Subaru Foresters I've had for the past 20 years.

I'd like to see the BYD brand prosper in Australia but I struggle to see why anyone would buy the Dolphin over an MG4 if you're in that market.

  • +1

I'll keep my hybrid order thanks.

    • +1

wait for toyota's price hike call then,

  • +1

Do you know if this car does V2H or does the MG4 does it?

    • MG4 has v2L

    • +1

No V2H or V2G is just not on.

If I had an EV as 2nd car, I'd like to use that 60kwh battery and solar to live off grid.

    • The Atto 3 has V2L and the spec sheet for the Dolphin says it has the same.
      No V2H or V2G though.
