NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 60,000 Bonus Velocity Points with $1,000 Spend in 60 Days, $95 Annual Fee @ NAB

3390

I was browsing NAB website and noticed this popular deal now available directly through NAB.

The 120K points were awarded to me very quickly (approx ~5 days after spend criteria was met) and I ended up using it to redeem $650 worth of gift cards (before it auto redeemed into velocity points)

            @fLaMePrO: thank you flamepro

            • @victimize: What documents did they ask you to provide? Been on holidays recently so only have 2 weeks of recent pay slips atm

EDIT: Applied anyway, approved within 3 minutes w/ no pay slips or anything even though casual employee
Quickest approval to date, closed my NAB Qantas card Feb 2023 (this probably helped the most) and equifax credit score 1000

    • Have you heard back yet? Partner also applied last Monday, no response, application status says 'to do' despite tasks being completed (upload payslips and ID verification at branch), can't reach case manager. Slowest credit card application process I've ever seen.

      • I applied with no response, i've followed them up MULTIPLE times with no updates. - Im at the same stage of your partner, case manager is fkn useless and unreachable

My partner also applied, instant approval. Card is on the way.

        • Have you been approved yet? I got instant approval but partner still waiting for approval for a few days now

          • +1

            @Brick50: Cheers for following up

I ended up complaining to NAB saying the case manager ignored me, they escalated it and a few days later they approved it. Card is on the way

            • @victimize: Probably got the same useless case manager!

Partner also called NAB and had it escalated last Friday, finally approved today (Tuesday). Took 2 weeks and 1 day.

              • @heytherehoney: good to hear my friend, strange how we're like the only two people who had issues with this card. 1st time ive ever had any issues from 4-5 years of churning cc's

  • just wondering. i’m looking to use this card linked to paypal to make a purchase, will that be classed as an eligible purchase.

i see this in the t’s&c’s where it says these aren’t eligible: “where a Card is used to access linked transaction accounts”

would paypal be classed as that?

has anyone tried not to activate auto redemption and not to add FFY membership number and still get the 120K points?

  • Got the 60k points after 6 days meeting the spent criteria + added my velocity card.

Noting only the discounted gift cards I could see were Airbnb and a swap gift card…

Could only get $550 in gift cards and I’m stuck with a little over 9000 points.

Has any one tried to remove the velocity number from the account to stop the auto renewal and simply spend another $200+ haha?

    • If you've already received your $550 worth of gift cards and you wont be using the the balance as velocity points anyway, you could try remove the auto redemption.

  • Approved 30/6
    Met minimum spend 3/7
    Points arrived and redeemed 8/7
    Account closed today 8/7

Wonder if I'll still have to pay the annual fee?

    • Did you receive VFF or NAB rewards points?

      • 120k Nab rewards points.
If not redeemed they auto convert to VFF on Mondays at 9 am.

        • @BrunoBear

can I not to activate auto redemption and not to add FFY membership number and still get the 120K points?

          • @jjj123: Not sure since i didn't try that. Best to play it safe and add the velocity auto redemption

  • Bought stuff for $1000 using credit card (linked with VFF). Received only 1000 points after 2 days in NAB rewards. Not sure when would they send me bonus points 1,20,000 now. I’ll keep an eye.

    • I only received nab rewards points for the purchases I made (above 1000). No bonus points. And, now today they have been converted to VFF. Do I need to chat with NAB loyalty team and ask about the bonus points?

      • Maybe because you have turned.on auto-redemption which is why the rewards points were transferred to VFF?

        • @hohoisme

can I not turn on auto redemption and not provide VFF and still get NAB points?

          • +1

@jjj123: Some people mentioned in the previous post that they were told by the rewards team they could still receive bonus points without providing VFF.

I haven't linked mine or turned on auto-redemption yet. Will update and see if I receive it or not.

  • Is car rego count for $1000 spend? Thanks.

    • +1

I paid my bike rego, just over $400 with this card. DoT WA and it counted towards the $1000 spend.
I spent $1011 for the 60k bonus velocity points.

      • Mine was (Vic for reference)

  • they accepted me instantly.. never had that happen before

  • So, I'm new to churning. I just got accepted for a ANZ card. Can I now apply for the NAB card or do I need to wait?

I know the banks can see what cards I have, as ANZ alerted me to a 28degrees card I had long forgotten about. Wondering what they think when they see a recently opened card?

  • Quick application & approved within an hour i think with no documentation required. Received the card the next week and started using it.

About 10 days later received a text that my lending application requries additional verification, ignored it thinking it was a scam. Tried to use the card and says not honoured at the register. Called NAB, they confirmed the verification team has blocked the card and asked me to provide 2 payslips and 3 months bank statements showing deposits into my account for secondary verification and no other reason could be provided. Once info received they said it'll be 48-72hrs for them to verify and unblock the card and I'll receive a text message.

Why bother having an easy application to be embrassed at the cash register for a card not working. Never had to provide bank statements to any other bank for a credit card before.

So I got my card, made a purchase a few days ago and now have 1500 NAB rewards points, anyone know how much longer for the bonus points to show up? I had a NAB qantas card in the last 12 months so just worried I won't get the bonus points.

    Thanks

    • +1

My bonus came through within 5 business days. In their terms and conditions it does say it could take up to 3months, so it may vary.

      • And then you need to use before the points get converted to VFF (every Monday) is that right? Is there an easy way to check when points are credited via your phone?

        • Yes, if you go to your cards tab on the NAB app it tells you how many points you have. I would recommend checking frequently after you have met the spend limit as I'm not sure which day the points auto redeem for velocity.

          • +1

@TechNerd: Every Monday morning 9am as per NAB T and Cs

            • @bargainhunt2020: Yeah I just hit the spend, so I'm not sure how long it takes for the bonus to be credited (and whether I can check on my phone rather than via desktop internet banking)

              • @dinglejerry: I am in the same boat.. have been waiting for the points for 4 days now. You can check the rewards points in the Cards section on the NAB App(verified on the iOS App) by selecting the Credit card. It shows up as “NAB Rewards Points Balance”

                • @bargainhunt2020: Ok great thanks for letting me know.

                  • +3

@dinglejerry: Update: Got the 120k bonus points this morning. I hit the spend criteria last Friday..

                    • @bargainhunt2020: Did you provide VFF?

                    • @bargainhunt2020: Thanks for the update. I hit the spend yesterday. Hopefully they don't credit the points just before the weekly transfer over to VFF!

                    • @bargainhunt2020: Seems like it's better to meet the spend requirement on Friday so they do not have enough time to convert the bonus points on the next Monday.

                    • @bargainhunt2020: Did you mean you made the transaction last Friday or did the transaction settle last Friday? Just wanting to understand the exact number of days from the date of transaction to the day of receiving bonus points.

  • Why are people linking a VFF number? You still get the bonus Nab points first and then it converts to VFF. No need to link it if your only after gift cards.

    • +1

Read the thread. Lots of people not wanting to take the risk of not being credited the points because Ts and Cs imply you need to supply your VFF to be credited the points.

    • @Duece1995

      have you tried?

      • +1

Yes and i received the points.

        • Cheers, i will then not link the VFF>

          @Duece1995

          • @jjj123: I linked my card. Just didn't select auto redemption.

            • @Duece1995: Did you say you linked your VFF number but did not turn on auto-redemption, and that you still received 120k bonus points?

  • anybody try to link with flybuy card too? can we stack this with flybuy promotion

  • So would Monday be the best day to complete the $1000 spend if you want the 120k nab points?

  • Would buying gift cards count towards the $1000 spend?

  • +3

Redeemed $500 Amazon gift card, $50 Eg gift card, $10 homeless donation, 3000 points transferred to flybuys. Left 200 points balance and let it go.

Closed the credit card account by messaging the Nab broker from the app.

Tried ask for waive / prorata the annual fee and confirm not getting any back:

*In regard to annual fee pro-rata refunds, effective 30th November 2022, we’ve made the following changes across all consumer credit cards (except StraightUp Card):
    - Annual fees will no longer be automatically refunded where a credit card account is closed within 12 months from first use. First use of card is when the first-year annual fee charge is triggered.
    - After the 12 months since the first annual fee charge the pro-rata refund rule will be applied.

In your case, I can see that your card was opened on the 29/06/2023 - As it is still within the first 12 months of use of the card, you will be ineligible for an annual fee pro-rata refund.

As this annual fee was agreed to upon application we are unable to waive this for you today.

If you still wish to close your credit card account today, please confirm and consent to the details above.*

    • +1

Yeah unfortunately I don't think you'll get it back, I signed up to a Qantas NAB card prior to 30/11/2022 and I still had to escalate it to resolutions team and threaten AFCA before they agreed to refund it as a once off. And they only agreed as I signed up for the card prior to the policy changing.

  • +2

I have closed my card and I never got charged the AF. This has been a great deal.

  • The QFF card is a bit more annoying experience in comparison, there is no way to see (or at least I have not found a way) how many points you have and the NAB loyalty team has no concrete answers on when the regular or bonus points are credited. For sure a candidate for closure after the points arrive.

  • ‘Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer’

I have an old NAB CC - if I open this and close the old CC after my points are debited. Is this okay? I intend to keep the new NAB CC for the year

  • applied and spent more than $1000, follow the instructions below to check the Reward status

    Log into NAB Internet Banking.
    Choose "Cards" from Menu.
On left-hand side, under the picture of your card, click on "Redeem NAB Rewards Points"

but in the new browser window, when I tried to set up auto-redemption, it says "login required"

looks like Rewards account not yet linked with credit card account, anyone had the same issue?

    • You don't need top setup auto redemption, when you click redeem nab rewards points does it actually log you in? Does it say 0 points or nothing?

      • it says 0 points, and not log in automatically in the browser window

        • Try the app instead, I couldn't set up auto redemption as my email was not in my NAB rewards account. But once the points arrived I was able to call them up and redeem the NAB rewards instead of doing it through the website

Points came through probably a week after $1000 spend

          • @Brick50: thanks for the reply
I tried app and web, both unable to log in the reward account, my first transaction was on 14 Jul, do you know when Rewards points balance will likely be updated from 0?

            • +2

              @excite: Paid 7/7
              Settled 10/7
              1k points added 11/7
              120k points added 14/7

              • @Brick50: Did you close the card? If I pay of the balance and cancel the card before the first statement is generated, would I have to pay the annual fee? Believe the fee is charged on the day statement is generated.

                • @dealsgrabber: Unfortunately I had to return something that I bought on the card, It was paid via Apple pay and still waiting a refund after a few days. But yes I have redeemed my points and technically could have closed the card already without paying AF.

            • +1

@excite: I have the exact same issue. I called up and they acknowledged that there seemed to be a problem with my account. He logged a ticket for me but said 3-5 business days to resolve. I mentioned that I wanted to set up the auto transfer for the promo and he said not to worry, they would honour it any any event.

              • @endolphin: Thanks, which number did you call?

                • @excite: 13 22 65

                  • @endolphin: my reward account linked, but transactions before were not tracked, will have to contact NAB again

  • +1

After spending the $1k requirement and 5 business days later I received 60,000 NAB points..

    • You should have received 120K NAB points. Do you mean 60K Velocity points?

      • That’s what I was expecting, no it was only 60k NAB points. I called support and spoke with the rewards department and they said they will look into it…

        • Did you link your Velocity Frequent Flyer number?

    • Hey @maheroz did you end up getting this resolved at all. I to have had the same issue. Called NAB and they said they would raise it with their admin team and gift the extra 60k points and may take up to 10 days. Just wanted to know if NAB resolved this for you.

      • Hey yes I had to raise a complaint. I made about 2-3 calls to follow up past few weeks and I just recently received an email with an outcome. They said they will award me the remainder 60k points out of good will lol. They said it may take 2-3 statement cycles to come through.

        • Ok thanks for the follow up. I suspect I will have to go through this same process. The person I spoke with advised that I needed to sign up from the velocity site and that it says this in their terms and conditions. I read the T&Cs again but it did not make any mention of this. I’ll keep on them until they sort it out. What a pain.

  • +16

Also I'm surprised that no one is mentioning that the better option is to immediately convert the 120k nab rewards points to 120k flybuys points. That is worth $600 of Coles money (more than if redeeming for a Coles gift card directly using nab rewards) but more importantly they can sit there and be converted to 60k velocity at any time.

    • Great idea, hadn't thought of that and removes the nasty odd numbers from gift cards on NAB.

    • Damn wish i thought about that earlier

    • Any tips on how to convert it to Flybuys?

      • +1

I believe you can do so via NAB Internet Banking, then the LOYALTY PARTNERS page where you can set up auto redemption with velocity, to the left of the page you can find flybuys where you can do a one time transfer once you receive the 120k points before they are converted to velocity points.

    • This is ozbargain innovation!

    • How can I convert Flybuys to Velocity?

  • Wth. Just checked my points and it shows -117! How come it is negative?

  • Well my partner has been declined for this card, we both had NAB Qantas cards approx. 6 months ago. She makes 2.5-3x more than I do
Has 1x 15k ANZ credit card, whereas I have 2x 6k limit cards. First time we have been declined for a CC, I got instant approval

    • +1

It seems so random sometimes. I've gone through NAB Qantas, Citi Premier, Suncorp Clear, Kogan Black, St George Amplify all within the past 3 months (still have 3 open - 41k limit) and got auto accepted for this last night.

  • What time do they load up the bonus points? Has been 4 days since meeting the spends but nothing came through

    • Look up

      • Did you also setup the Virgin automatic transfers? If yes, it was about 6 days for me after spending the $1000. The virgin automatic transfers happen every Monday, so you need to keep your eye on it to avoid it if you don't want your points to transfer to Velocity.

        • Yes i have set up the auto-redemption and some reward points from my spendings have been transferred to VFF points on Monday.

Yet to receive the 120k points. Just worried that they will automatically converted on next Monday before i stop it.

  • Does this card have the perks of international travel insirance, etc? I couldnt seem to see anything. But i need a credit card that has it. Just closed my anz black 15k and have been declined by westpac for black 15k. Im so angry and upset that ive closed anz, to only be declined due to "serviceability". Anyone able to help?

    • +1

It does, yes. You need to spend at least $500 on hotels/flights pertaining to your holiday on the card to get it

  • Thanks to TechNerd and everyone else, I applied and was accepted to the card in 5 mins.

Now, re the auto redemption, I found the section where we input the ff number, but I see some verbiage that says:

“Enter your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number below. We will transfer your NAB Rewards Points balance to Velocity every week at the rate of 1 Velocity Point for every 2 NAB Rewards Points”.

Is it ok that I input the number or is there a points issue because this doesn’t sound like it refers to the offer?

    Thanks I’m advance!

    • Yes that is where you enter it. I believe to be eligible to receive the 120,000 NAB points, you need to setup the automatic Virgin transfer by entering your Velocity frequent flyer number there. Once you set it up, your points will be transferred across automatically every Monday. So you need to keep an eye on it every day after spending your $1000 to see when you receive the bonus points to use them before they transfer across to Virgin (unless you want them to transfer to Virgin).
