NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card: 60,000 Bonus Velocity Points with $1,000 Spend in 60 Days, $95 Annual Fee @ NAB

3390

I was browsing NAB website and noticed this popular deal now available directly through NAB.

The 120K points were awarded to me very quickly (approx ~5 days after spend criteria was met) and I ended up using it to redeem $650 worth of gift cards (before it auto redeemed into velocity points)

Terms & Conditions:
NAB Rewards Platinum Card — 70k Velocity auto redemption offer
Offer commenced on 6 June 2023 and ends 5 September 2023. To be eligible for the up to 70,000 Velocity bonus Points offer (automatically redeemed from 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points), you must be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, apply for a new personal NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card before the offer is withdrawn, have your application approved, provide your Velocity membership number to NAB to enrol in Auto Redemption, spend $1,000 on everyday purchases using your new card within 60 days of opening account and keep you card for over 12 months. You’ll receive an email from NAB after your application has been approved with information on how to provide your Velocity membership number to NAB. Redemption of Velocity Points and the Velocity membership is subject to the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions.

Points will be awarded on a tiered basis – You will be eligible to receive 120,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points when you spend $1,000 on everyday purchases in the first 60 days of opening your account (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria, and will be automatically redeemed for 60,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter and 20,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points after you have had your card for over 12 months (credited to your NAB Rewards points balance within the 13th month and will be automatically redeemed for 10,000 Velocity Points within 10 days thereafter). The name of the cardholder must match the name on the Velocity membership number. Offer limited to one total allocation of 140,000 NAB Rewards Bonus Points per Velocity account.

Everyday purchases exclude transactions NAB decides are wholly or partly for gambling or gaming purposes. You must provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number to NAB in order to have your NAB Rewards points automatically redeemed for Velocity Points. Each week the NAB Rewards Points that you've earned will be transferred to Velocity Points with 2 NAB Rewards Points = 1 Velocity Point, provided your Velocity Frequently Flyer membership is linked to your account.

Your NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card must remain open and in good standing, and you must be enrolled in Auto Redemption to receive the Velocity Points.

This offer is not available to existing NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card customers or customers who have had a NAB Rewards Signature or NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card within 18 months prior to applying for a new NAB Rewards Platinum Credit Card. Offer is not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other NAB credit card offer.

A reduced annual card fee of $95 will be charged when the card is opened and applies for the first 12 months. You will be charged the standard $195 annual card fee in the 13th month of your card account.

@ar7ist: may as well close it, it's a crappy card.
free up credit and get more cards.

    • For paying your CC - you need biller code & ref#.
      Nab's BC = 1008; ref# is your cc#.
You can test it first by sending a small $ payment before clearing your entire bal if you not comfortable.

  • How long did the transfer to flybuys take? I did it a few days ago and still nothing.

have already cancelled the card sigh..

    • Did they come through? How long after you redeemed flybuys did you cancel card?

      • they did! about a week.

  • There seems to be a bit of a grey area around what’s counted as $1000 expense. Could you share what you’ve spent that on? Apparently gift cards from retailers don’t count

    • Apparently gift cards from retailers don’t count

      says who?

      • NAB customer service through their chat support.
Have gift cards worked for you?

        • yeah in the past.
forget the chat, look at the terms and conditions of the card to see what is an eligible transaction.

    • I bought the 10% amazon deal, comes through as coles spend

  • It’s pretty vague and says “everyday expenses”. My mortgage would easily be one then.

  • I'm worried I accidently signed up for the 80k NAB points offer rather than this velocity offer. Anyone know how I could check? I was accepted yesterday and cannot find any option to add my velocity number

    • Just realised the same thing. I called up and confirmed that I was on the 80K one :/
Now checking to see they can transfer the promotion link to my card. However, apparently it is a long shot.

I guess you could check to see if they charged you $45 annual fee or the $95 annual fee.

Hey, this all worked out for me as I was on the velocity offer. Hope you can sort it!

Met the spend last week & received the points this morning. Set up auto redeem velocity points to begin with and turned it off the same day.

    • What did you spend the $1000 on? Also, what was the turnaround time for them to approve the card? They’re taking very long to process mine.

      • Amazon & woolworth gift cards mainly. Then just random retail spending like butcher, fruit/vege store, ambulance renewal, etc. Didn't do any bpays.

They approved mine within the hour with no documentation. But then less than 2 weeks later they blocked the card for additional verification. I had to give them 3 months of bank statements showing my salary deposited & 2 payslips. I certainly wont be keeping the card after that!

  • Did my final spend paying rates on Monday, added Velocity auto redemption that day and got 120000 NAB points today. Opted for $500 Wish cards and balance will be auto redeemed as Flybuys points on Monday.

  • Weird, it's been 9 days and it still says "Your NAB Rewards points will be available within the next few days", is there anything I need to do to enable it? or is it normal

  • I got approved on 26/7, met the 1k spend on 7/8, and just got the 120k rewards points this morning. I never put my velocity frequent flyer for auto redemption.

    • Yeah pretty much the same experience here.

  • +1

I applied 9/7, got approved 14/7, met the 1k spend on 8/8, and got the 120k points this morning (13/8). I never put my velocity frequent flyer for auto redemption.
I've just redeemed $550 of gift cards.
I've spent about $2300 with the card since I got it actually, but if I spent $2500 then I would've been able to get another $50 gift card. So just something you can keep in mind if you intend to pay council fees/big bills with it and you get to >$2k, might as well get to 2.5k and get $600 of gift cards.
I don't intend to transfer any points, so I'll aim to spend a bit more and hopefully I can get another $50 (as I currently have like 10,060 points left still but need 10,210 for a $50 first card).

    • I met spend on 11/8 and still waitig for points

      • Have you got your points yet? Its been 2 weeks for me still waiting

  • Is there anyway to add these cards to mobile wallet without actually waiting for the Physical card to arrive. Approved yesterday but want to buy current Coles Mastercard to get 5% benefit

    • Yes you can add it to your Google Wallet via the app under Cards.

  • I would like to share a very painful experience with NAB recently, which ends up costing me a fortune compared to whatever benefit they can provide.

NAB simply miscalculated a transfer on my account, and litterally stole 2000$ from my credit account.

I hereby make public my bank statements to warn all the community about such mistakes, which I still couldn't claim back. Please check your statements very carefully.

  • Any good ways to pay off hecs or add to super with credit cards as an eligible spend? Would BPay either directly or through something like beemit work?

    • not sure if NAB has those exlcusions

if a provider does, can always use zippay

      • Didn't word my question very well, just wondering if that would count towards the $1000 spend. Don't spend much so otherwise might be tricky to reach.

        • +1

If paying by bpay I would use zippay.
You can't use credit card for beem bpay anymore.

          Sniip has fees, zip doesn't

    • buy the coles MC gift cards and pay via ATO/government easy pay

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/794046

  • Wow, just got the monthly statement with the annual fee included.
This is the fastest credit card statement I've ever got. I only activated the card 10 days ago …
NAB must be worried that I'd get the bonus and cancel straightaway like some people here … :(

    • If it wasn’t your intention to cancel, why the sad face? Still Pretty good deal as you are still making $600 from the card (in velocity or how you want to spend it).

      • Actually, if I get the bonus before getting charged the annual fee, I'd cancel it. But I certainly didn't expect it to be that fast, I need more time to spend $1000.

        • Ok. That explains the sad face. Fair enough. Alternatively they could lower the points and not charge the fee the first year (so it would work out the same and people would possibly keep the card as free). It would be better if no fee the first year of course and same amount of points, but I’m happy to get the velocity points most of all.

  • I ended up with 120k flybuys points. Thanks to OP and the commenters in here.

    • How long after spend did you get the points?

      • 10-14 days.

        • Thanks.

  • My card still hasn’t arrived but met the spend required using the apple wallet.
For some reason I don’t see the button to enter velocity number (on the app).

    • For some reason my rewards are blanked out. My husband also signed up and he could enter velocity no problem.

  • Looking for a definitive answer: Do I need a velocity account to receive the nab reward points? I don't have velocity and just want the points to get gift cards from NAB rewards.

    • No

    • Have you applied and did it work out for you? I have no intention on signing up to velocity but want the bonus points as well

      • Will find out shortly. They took 3 weeks to approve my application as they needed to sight my passport. After taking my passport to a branch and having it confirmed, the employee handling the application had not noticed or checked that I had completed that step and sat on my application for 3 weeks.

      • Yes, it works without velocity. Do try and spend the $1000 asap. Seems like 10-14 days is when they charge the $99. If you're quick like some folks you might be able to dodge it. I didn't but am happy with $501 in Amazon credit after all.

        • Cheers, need to find something to buy first lol. Any idea if bpay works for bills? I see mixed info, maybe need to select credit card as payment and input the number manually.

  • Current plan is to delay getting this until I'm within 1 year of travel, to get the travel insurance benefits since there is the fee. Follow the steps in the replies and decide if the $600 vouchers are better then the equivalent frequent flyer points for a Fiji trip. My first credit card, is it possible that you're able to just pay your rent to hit the $1000? Won't take long in Sydney..

    • Not sure how would you pay the rent with a credit card?

      • I suppose not. Will adjust the timing to whenever I next need to make a big purchase.

        • If your rent has Bpay this card will let you directly pay to that which counts as spend

  • Hi all, we got cards one each (husband and me). Weird thing is my husband was approved 2 days after me. He spent the $1000 a day later and he got the points 6 days later:… I am still waiting for mine!
Btw as he spent the $1000 quickly and points so quickly he was able to cancel before being hit by the $95. It was done via chat. He is an existing nab account holder, maybe that explains why he got his points so quickly

    • I cancelled mine and the next day the $95 fee was charged. Can you please confirm your husband didn't pay?

      • How long after you were granted the CC was the fee charged? It's been about a week for me and I'm yet to be charged. I haven't spent $1000 yet so I'm guessing it's too late for me to avoid the fee

        • +1

I think exactly 2 weeks after receiving card. About 16-17 days from approval email.

          • @LaProblematique: when did you receive the points? did you receive regular points plus bonus points at the same time or not?

            • @ivyholmes: Regular points a day or two after each transaction. 120,000 bonus points were received approx a week after meeting $1000 spend.

Still curious if @fozzie ended up getting charged the $95.

              • @LaProblematique: she said she got charged but her husband not. what about you? did you get charged?

                • @ivyholmes: I haven't been charged yet but I don't have the bonus points either. Hit the 1k spend on Thursday, was approved the Thursday prior so I'm expecting the annual fee soon..

  • Hey all, it says offer ends 5th sept - do I have to get approved before this date or as long as I apply before then?

Planning to get onto it this weekend…

    Thanks!

Applied on 21/08 and haven't heard anything back. Tried calling this morning and the automated message said there are processing delays, can't provide an update, banker will be in touch etc.

I already have a NAB account as well which is disappointing when hearing people got approved in 2 days.

    • Both me and the wife applied.
I got approved instantly. Wife applied on 24/08 and is still waiting to get approved. Says ID has been verified and the application is just stuck there.
Niether of us have a nab acc.

      • Any update on your application? My friend applied 24/08 and has been assigned a case manager last Friday but nothing has happened.

        • No update as of yet. Still says "Your identity is verified." and is stuck there. Wonder if I should call.

          • @ar7ist: I called this morning and apparently they wanted additional verification docs but I didn't get any correspondence requesting those. Best to call up and see if you have the same issue.

            • @Barglala: My friend finally got comms from NAB asking for 2 payslips (already gave), 3 months of bank statements showing salary deposited & ATO income statement! All for a 6k limit lol.

              • @junet: Just had the same issue… I have tried calling several times with the application officer never picking up…

  • Applied on 1 August. There was some argy bargy with submitting payslips but card finally approved and arrived on 16 Aug. Spent $1000 on bills the next day. One week later 120,000 points dropped, and a few days after that, it was auto transferred to Velocity. Can't complain about the process.

Only after all that did the first bill drop. I should have cancelled immediately and avoid the AF but my conscience stopped me.

    • the velocity transfers are scheduled every Monday, 9AM

    • and avoid the AF but my conscience stopped me.

you need to work on that ;)

      • I know right. I just remembered how much those bastards make…

        • You didn't need to put in VFF number for the 120k points to come across.

I just converted mine into 120k flybuys points worth $600, received in my flybuys acct within 24 hours

          • +1

@Brick50: Yeah I knew that but I wanted the points which I sell for 1.1cpp, and therefore worth a little more than $600.

    • Did you pay your bills via bpay or the credit card option usually on their website? seeing mixed info around whether bpay counts towards the spend and I like to pay my bills via bpay.

  • +3

Looks like this offers been extended till end of January

  • +1

Quick update: if you spend money quickly (use to buy gift cards for example) the points arrive super quick (1-2 weeks), then you will not be charged the $95. Jump online and chat to them to cancel (you need to use all the points too, but it’s fairly quick to do). Me and husband avoided being charged and we received 120.000 velocity. Thanks op

    • 120,000 NAB or 60,000 Velocity? I hope I am fast enough to avoid my points being converted to Velocity.

      • I wanted them converted (2 credit cards = 120k nab points). No need to add your velocity and you’ll get nab. Why not velocity? You could sell at 1.1 each and make extra.

        • I am going off OP's information -

The 120K points were awarded to me very quickly (approx ~5 days after spend criteria was met) and I ended up using it to redeem $650 worth of gift cards (before it auto redeemed into velocity points).

Is this not the best value method anymore?

          • @spiderbite88: I’m not sure actually depends what you are after. I prefer velocity as you can nearly get a one way ticket to Europe (plus money). I saved a fortune for my next trip and coming back on Etihad. But if you don’t travel maybe gift cards (not sure what is currently offered though).

            • @fozzie: Hi again, I received the points! I purchased gift cards, it says they're posting them to me. Can I cancel the card now? Or should I wait until the physical cards arrive?

EDIT: I see the digital link to the cards. So do I open a chat and ask to close the credit card? I can't just close it from the website.

              • @spiderbite88: Log in the app and chat to a banker to ask to cancel. If you wait for delivery it might be too late. I think you’ll still be protected by credit card even if you cancel (outstanding payment is due within 3 weeks I believe). Enjoy!

                • +1

@fozzie: I asked to cancel 2 weeks before the first statement, they canceled the credit card. I was notified by Apple Wallet my card was de-activated. However the account remained on the NAB online page and $95 was subtracted. How did you close the account completely?

                • @fozzie: How do you pay it off before close it down to avoid $95 fees?

                  • +1

@ivyholmes: Chat to them, tell them to shut it and then you’ll have a couple of weeks to pay it off

                    • @fozzie: my husband is a first timer using credit card, he also got accepted for this card and HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card, do you think if He closed this card (NAB Rewards CC), would it affecting his credit score in the future for house loan? I'm just making sure not paying $95 wont hurt us in the long run

                      • +1

@ivyholmes: It makes no difference whether you pay $95 or not. Applying for a credit card in itself can however after your credit history. If you have a good history it will make no much difference. Just ask for your credit report. Closing a credit card it’s a good thing for your credit report.

Get the points in 13th month, along with the 195 annual fee

    • +1

      If 120k points = $600. Then 20k points = $100. Not worth it?

  • Crazy how quick this went through, took roughly 10minutes from starting the application to being approved with a digital credit card setup on my phone. Made the 1k spend on saturday, now just waiting for the points to come in.

  • Its been almost a month after I met the spend requirement and still waiting for the points. Anybod in the same boat? Called the loyalty number and was told he can see I meet the spend threshd and just need the system to allocate the points, which can take upto 3 months… very frustrating

    • Called them again, and she said it's being processed, then got the points today and converted them to flybuys.

      • Same – took almost a month after meeting the criteria to get the points.
