First post, so hopefully its a good one. Basic Mac Mini, but best price it has been on Amazon according to Camel….25% off Apple retail of $999. Not powerful enough for my use, but would be a great purchase at this price if you're not using heavy applications.

I was just weighing my options on which Beelink to buy, and now this comes up.

    • Go Beelink. No idea of your use case btw. 🥳

      • I got the Beelink GTR Pro and it is very noisy. GPU temp is over 100 degree.

Just bought Minisforum UM790 this week, it seem super quite and CPU is much cooler. Only thing I notice so far is the Wifi speed but the issue could be from my router.
If you use the cable, then you have nothing to worry about.

For those looking a little higher, the M2 Pro version of the Mac mini is also 10% off:

    • It's a shame they didn't do the 25% of this one! It was the one I was looking for when I found this deal. I'm fine with the M2 and the 256GB of storage, but 8GB RAM just not enough for my use, unfortunately…Looking forward to the day 16GB is minimum, but with Apple I feel like I'll be waiting a while…

      • +4

They'll do it in 10 years when 32gb should be the minimum.

      • Yeah, I'd have bought one of these myself at 25% off.

      • +2

I have heard that on the M3 the minimum memory is going to be 12gb. I actually think 12 would be ok. Not ideal but OK.

I have the original m1 sit with 8gb and have found that it’s not enough a few times in the last month.

I think I just bought the last one. OOS now (was about to buy another one)

    • Well done. Act fast, think later. (Unless of course you always wanted one!)

    AOC store is $795.3

Might work out cheaper if you have scored some 10% off or 15% off Apple GC early this year

Also, highly recommending upgrading to 16GB Memory

miss this one but looks Catch have 797.6+post also

    • Get Officeworks to price beat this though

  • Would this model have been sufficient to run Blender on it?

    • -2

I think you can put a blender on top of it, and it will blend apples.

    • run ok, rendering will be dead slow

      • +1

        Ok thank you 👍

  • Where are the 8GB whiners?

    • +29

Still closing chrome tabs to free up memory to post …

    • It's a valid concern depending on your use-case. I ended up upgrading my M1 to 16GB and it worked well enough for me.

But yeah, for a lot of people 8GB is enough.

    • +2

I had an M1 8GB (was concerned but gave it ago) but even only as a web browsing box it was not enough
Required being careful with tabs and regular reboots

Sold it after about a year and upgraded to an M2 16GB and all issues gone.

Such a stupid thing to be an issue when ram is so cheap, shame apple didn't make 16GB standard or at least an off the shelf option.

      • +4

Not sure what browser you were using, but I had the same machine and it never even blinked at even some moderately intensive tasks, let alone web browsing. 8GB was fine.

If you have multiple Google accounts AB’s have them open it will chew up the memory so fast. Gmail is usually almost 2gb. Two of those and you’re at 4gb. If you use Google drive then you’re basically at the limit.

        • Chrome and gmail can be appalling memory hogs on macOS.

  • Bummer. It’s back to $1797 🤣

    • Check the specs - 10‑core CPU and 16‑core GPU, 16GB Unified Memory, 512GB SSD

      • Yeah had to look twice too.

  • Combin with with one of those 14" type portable screen ;)

  • who on earth would build a machine like this and put in only 8GB of RAM?

    • +6

      Apple

    • +3

Apple totally in line with their business model..

  • Any recommendations for monitor to pair this with ?

    • +1

      Pro XDR

  • was it really 747 bucks? or 1747?

    • +2

Yes it was $747 for the 8GB RAM version (RRP $999), but it’s now out of stock, so Amazon redirects the original link to the more powerful, higher spec version (which wasn’t any lower than $1797 as it is currently). Just the way Amazon works when something is out of stock.
