  • Before someone says "these never work" despite never being posted before. I've tried it on this Kingspec M.2 NVMe Gen3 2TB SSD and it brings the price down to a low US$53.10 (~A$82.71).

$83.98 here including tax, the web site didn't accept the BEST14 coupon code because playing coupons on Aliexpress has always been a gamble.
But for ~$30-40 more an intelligent and educated computer builder would prefer a known brand and local stock memory unless you're building a trash computer for someone and then say goodbye forever.

      • +2

BEST14 requires a US$90 spend and the SSD is US$62.59 ex GST so that's a no brainer. You would have known this if you actually read the deal.

It was purely an example that the code works as the first thing I tapped on from the page.

For any serious system builders out there grab the Lexar 2TB for $129 from BPC if you're on a budget. Local warranty and gen4 speeds

          It was purely an example

Call it the way you like but they sell it for real:

          • 2TB memory AUD97.91 - AUD13 discount = AUD84.91.
          • Add 10% tax = AUD93.401.

Aliexpress's codes have always been a gamble.

      • educated computer builder would prefer a known brand

Er, Kingspec have been making SSDs since SSDs were a thing. They're one of the very oldest original brands, and not in the "weird unknown brand" category.

Educated computer builders would know this 😁

        • Educated computer builders would know this

Educated computer builders don't buy parts on Aliexpress and waste 1-2 month waiting time for something that might not arrive and which has no warranty or might not even work!
You also quoted something and replayed something totally off topic.

Read my post again - I was correcting your incorrect characterisation of Kingspec. Nowhere did I suggest that computer builders should be buying their parts from AliExpress, so I'm not sure where you're going with this 🤷🏼‍♂️

Nope, I quoted and corrected an error that you made in your post.

    • Would something like this be good for NAS back up? I'm using a portable spin 4TB drive ATM and want to update as it takes a day or two to transfer.

      • +1

How much data are you transferring? An SSD with DRAM cache is ideal as it'll be able to handle a heap of writes without the speed dropping too slow.

        @netsurfer will have good recommendations.

        • Only backup from a seagate nas drives about 4TB ATM, 1 TB would be about 20,000 MAME Rom games the rest in movies and photos. this will be more a store and save if something goes wrong drive.

      • +1

How fast is your LAN? If it is gigabit LAN only, you are looking at at best 125MB/s (but 110MB/s might be more realistic) and that's with large files. Your gigabit NAS will still be a bottleneck even if you switch an SSD or SSDs. There will still be some advantages using SSD(s) since the access time (through SSD) is faster so accessing files from idle state would be faster. If it is gigabit ethernet, there is no real need to chase after fast SSDs. Reliability is more important.

For MAME, I think the CHD files are the ones which are more time consuming to backup.

        • 2.5Gbe LAN notebook router and nas. I'm using proxmox with truenas, was hoping to back up with this I bought https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005300135845.html?spm=a2…

For MAME, I think the CHD files are the ones which are more time consuming to backup.

Yeah it runs at about 1MB/s on a spin drive. However it run around a 300GB file size transfering from 1 nvme drive to the other Nvme in my laptop in no time.

@jizmo: I see… You plan to use an SSD in an USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure. If that's the case and you want 4TB, NM790 currently is probably the most cost effective one at the moment. You want a TLC SSD because QLC SSDs can drop to 100MB/s and since it is backing up large amount of data (Easily over 1TB), you want TLC.

There used to be a 2TB TLC PCIe gen 3 x4 SSD that's $110. Unfortunately, the maker changed it to QLC. You only really need PCIe gen 3 x4 since USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure runs in PCIe gen 3 x2 mode. You do need to pick an SSD with decent sustained write since you intend to use it mostly for backup large amount of data.

DRAM on SSD is less of an issue if you care mostly about sequential read/write. There is a minor additional performance drop of 3-5% compared to DRAM SSD on USB enclosure (because DRAMless SSD via USB enclosure generally doesn't support HMB). Any cheap TLC SSDs which can sustained 500MB/s+ is good enough. 1000MB/s sustained would be better of course, but MAME ROM + CHD backup is mostly to prevent the painful re-download of CHD files.

Of course I see this an hour after spending $100 🤦

  • Any good android pad deals with these coupons?

    • They seem to work on pretty much all of them. Anything in particular you're looking for?

    • Having had a bit of experience with Chinese brand tablets, I ended up buying a Samsung A8.

      • No brand ones can be a miss and a miss… Only a few good Chinese brands for tablets

    • Not sure if coupon would include this product, but try:

In my most recent order with Ali, one item was fake, a 4k camera was only 1080 and an oil sensor was the wrong type.

An appeal wouldn't refund the shipping, only the item cost. Unless I sent them back at my cost.

    PayPal returns is now gone.

    So Ali is getting risky.

    • +1

      So Ali is getting risky.

I only commit small amount of money on Aliexpress and I always pay with a credit card so they can play their tricks all they want but my financial institution have the final word.
Also if you find the same item on eBay, it's better you buy from there so scammer ATO doesn't trick you.

    • I rarely have a problem with AliExpress and items are often better than I expect. However, I do read all the listings carefully and stick with sellers that have good ratings/reviews.
Any refunds have been for the full purchase price (inc. shipping). They now even offer free return shipping (items labeled with 'Free return') on items like clothes, where you can return 3 items each month, even if you just change your mind.
My last order was a custom order that wasn't on the sales page and I received it in under 10 days. I can't get a normal package across Aus that fast.

      • Yeah, the speed is excellent. Not sure how you got shipping refunded (was it free shipping)? I had to send in endless videos to prove the camera was 1080. But they still wanted more. Gave up.

  • Drats, was going to use the 36 off code after I knocked off work. Forgot they expired at 5pm. Any chance of similar codes over the next week or so?
