7% off in-Stock Tesla 2023 Model 3 (with Less than 50km on Odometer) from $55,360 + On-Road Cost @ Tesla

2970

Tesla, just dropped the price of an inventory Model 3 even lower, might be a good bargain to get before the:
stamp duty rebate https://www.revenue.nsw.gov.au/grants-schemes/electric-vehic…
and 3k ev grant ends: https://www.revenue.nsw.gov.au/grants-schemes/electric-vehic…
at the end of this year.
With the refresh model 3 2024 loosing the gear stalk and blinker stalk, this could become a high yield investment ;D

Doesn't say Build Your Dreams across the back. I mean really. Worst car label ever. My car is not what I dream about. I dream about much more "interesting" things.

Im not fully sold on EVs yet, but mate i had a look at a BYD atto in perosn (i want a SEAL, but none there).. the quality from door weight, fit and finish was better than tesla. Imo ofcourse.

        • yeah there is a visible difference between colleagues with older tesla and more recent ones, they seem to not age very well and get tatty.

one person has a byd i was too stunned by they weird styling to look at build quality

I'd probably go with a honda e or something like that

          • +1

@juki: Original ones were made in USA and were not well screwed together (I have a USA made 2019 3 Performance). But the new ones made in Shanghai are VERY well made (wifey has a 2023 base model Y). Its not that they don't age well, you have to remember that Tesla has only been mass producing cars for a few years, it has taken them a while to iron out the kinks, they are FAR better now.

            • +1

@dtpearson: yeah the older ones are probably from around 2019. The new ones look fine but, well they are new :) and yes hopefully they have worked at improving them

I dont have anything against tesla, its just not the car for me and seeing the tattier ones had me wonder about the support and so on if buying a second hand one.

      • -5

You arnt buying an EV because you are a car person, who cares about specs

          • @Deviner: what is wrong with your caps lock there fellah. think you need to buy a new device. electric computers/phones definitely better than petrol ones by the way.

correct me if i am wrong but the acceleration on electrics c**ps all over petrol. 0-100 in like half a second. sure they don't sound cool but they outperform and there is no ugly fuel circle thing messing up the lines.

      • Imagine buying a BYD when you can get Tesla for similar price.
BYD should be half the price.

        • +7

And the car in the deal which is made in China. And Tesla sources some batteries from byd.

        • +3

Everything made in China isn’t built to the same standards nor has it gone through the same R&D prior or receive the same post sale support.

An iPhone and a Vivo are both made in China. But I know which one I’d rather use.

More so when it comes to a car and safety.

          • +3

@PainToad: Vivo right? It's Vivo isn't it? The one you would rather use?

            • @Dice: I would go the vivo too. anything apple is overpriced, grinds to a halt in 6 months rubbish.

          • +1

@PainToad: Which one? I’d definately use vivo

        • +15

It’s not racist. There’s no mention of race or race implied. It’s against CCP.

Negative or positive comment about a race doesn’t not constitute racism.

          • +5

@spc12go: Yup. Was about to say the same.

Does it make you racist if you say disparage the Labor, Liberal or the Greens?

Why are people equating CCP with the Chinese people?

          • +1

@spc12go: Calling all Chinese engineers "Winnie The Pooh's serfs" not racist?

            • @bio: i think its more referring to the mistreatment of factory staff rather than the engineers.

            • +10

@bio: What the Chinese called African and white people. “black ghost” and “white ghost” are racist.

Or how they call Anglos “imperial dogs or pigs” Japanese “tiny Japanese or Japanese ghost”

Those are racist comment, comments made directly at a race, about the appearance or misguided history.

Winnie the Pooh is referring to the CCP leader’s body shape similar to Winnie the Pooh. Fat shaming is not racist it’s not nice. Think how winnie would feel.

            • +2

              @bio:

Calling all Chinese engineers "Winnie The Pooh's serfs" not racist?

Explain how you think it is and let's discuss.

Not all insults are racism. I'm failing to see any here myself, but welcome you to share your thoughts.

            • +1

@bio: Calling someone a serf is not racism. Where did you get that garbage from?

Using the term 'serf' indicates that those poor people are victims of an oppressive and hateful regime in the form of the CCP and Winnie the Pooh.

            • @bio: No, not racist.

              Get a grip.

lower price does not equal to better value

      • Unless the M3 was just way too expensive from the start.

        • +8

Nearly every car is too expensive from the start these days.

          • @onlinepred: f'n AMEN brother

          • @onlinepred: I worked for a very large motor distributor in Australia many years ago.
At the time they had around a 100 percent mark up from the landed cost including all shipping , taxes etc and the retail price at the dealership on vehicles they imported.

I suspect that things have not changed much in the industry and that sort of price gouging is still going on.

And of course the government protect this thievery by the local car industry by making it nearly impossible to import grey market cars or near new JDM cars. That is the main reason why Australian consumers suffer from overpriced new cars in Australia.

    • Interesting… from a RRP perspective when comparing equivalent specs, seems pretty line ball on value. BYD seems a great car, if you can excuse the software.
Ioniq is complete garbage, we still need more real competitors, although Volvo line-up is better than I expected.

I've decided to wait a few more months to see actual reviews of the 3 refresh, but BYD or Tesla seem pretty close on value.

      • +1

Why is the Ioniq garbage? They get pretty good reviews

        • With regard to reviews, always consider how they are funded. Take one for a test drive, if you like it then great be happy.
I found the car highly dependent on software, and I do not feel Angular is actually ready for release. Regular blank screens, failure to charges, long or extended charging times (almost twice as long as it should take, for no apparently reason). Suspect heat related. A/C and electrical failures.
Sure there are many lemon tesla's, but the volume of lemon Ionic 6's seems pretty impressive against a low volume of sales.

I am still in the market, but going to wait it out a few months, I'll reconsider the Ionic again, will try and go in new with fresh eyes.

          • @UltimateAI: Fair enough

          • @UltimateAI: you found which car for all this you mentioned?

          • +2

@UltimateAI: I own an IONIQ and am a member of an IONIQ club and I brand you a lemon good sir. take your YouTube watching comments elsewhere. Branding a car "Garbage" because you watched a couple of people making youtube videos is pretty poor. then to come on here and make such accusations!.

            • @Sometingwong: So many cool EVs out, currently have a Model Y myself but love the styling of the Ioniq 5 and EV6, not a big fan of the Ioniq 6 though!

Also Polestar are amazing in their design

              • @NickimusRex: I agree. I love the varied EV options out there, and would love to see more options. Each has their own pros and cons. But compared to ICE, they're all amazing for city driving (yes yes can't drive across the nullabor in an EV blah blah, can't tow half of Sydney harbour bridge blah blah).

I have a Polestar 2 and loving it!

The Ioniq 5 would've been my first EV buy, except it was near impossible to buy at the time!

              • +1

@NickimusRex: You mean Polestar just looks like a real car rather than optimised for aerodynamics. The polestar is very uncomfortable in the drivers seat where you feel clasutrophobic due to huge transmission tunnel in the middle and your knee hitting the side. Drive one and see.

                • +1

@Naigrabzo: I have one, and have been driving it for over a year. Doesn't feel claustrophobic to me at all, or my wife and 2 kids who sit in the car at the same time. My knee doesn't sit the column. I stretch it out and recline. Then again, I'm not 6'5" tall.

I know of 3 other friends who also have a Polestar 2 each, without the issues you speak of.

                  • @dangerdanger: @dangerdanger

Nice! It's good that you like it.

I can only speak to what I felt when I test drove one. As the driver, I felt trapped in it.

The overall feel is more premium. The range of course is poor compared to Tesla. It is a new brand of course and I wouldn't trust it's longevity.

They do have some nerve charging high price for a car that has been NOT designed from a ground up architecture for EVs. They left the transmission tunnel there just to taunt the buyers.

I can't remember whether it has battery conditioning.

                    • @Naigrabzo: This isn't directed at you personally FYI. :)

I'm an inner city driver. I charge at home and work, and the battery is forever between 60-90% so I never feel range anxiety. I know you're not saying, but for the anti-EV people out there, YES I have a shit tonne of solar excess production and am self-sufficient, a lot of those electrons go into the car at weekends and WFH-days.

Price was spot-on for what I had in mind, including state rebates at the time. I also only had to wait 1 month for delivery, guess I got lucky. Yes I realise I'm extremely lucky on location / income / car needs. Price is always going to be an issue, and the last time I checked everything seems more expensive.

Longevity = better than an ICE. And I churn through cars every few years so longevity is irrelevant for me. So when a new car comes out in 2-3 years, I'll move it on.

Yes it has battery preconditioning, but again irrelevant for me. It's garaged, I don't drive it long distances, I don't live in the extremes of temperature except when Adelaide has heat waves. But in terms of battery life : see above. Irrelevant if I roll over my car every 3-5yrs.

All these concerns people have about EVs are a non-issue for the vast majority of would-be owners. It's like someone worrying about the newest iPhone 15, when they know they'll just move on the 16 or 17 or 18 eventually.

And as for most EV users, we're getting bored of the ICE-EV or Tesla-nonTesla arguments. Each to his own. And I say to ICE drivers : just rent an EV and see what it's like -they're fantastic.

            • @Sometingwong: My neighbour has two in his family and seem to love it.

          • @UltimateAI:

I found the car highly dependent on software

This is the biggest problem with all modern cars in general. We all own phones and computers, we all know how unreliable it is and how quickly it becomes obsolete and impossible to support. Why would you want more of this in your car?

            • @1st-Amendment: No choice with software unfortunately. Every new car is like that. Just choose your manufacturers carefully.

          • +2

@UltimateAI: Which planet are you coming from? I drive an Ioniq 5, and I haven't encountered the issues you talked about.
I'd say your comments are, I woulnd say garbage, but pretty off the mark, lol.

    • +7

Worst interior though, looks like a 90s CD player

      • +4

One of the earlier reviews of a BYD I watched said the infotainment screen was a cheap generic Android tablet that barely functioned just stuck on the dashboard. Of course BYD claimed it would be fixed "soon" with a software update. Let's hope their software updates are better than most cheap Android tablets.

Told me all I needed to know about BYD.

Do just enough to create the illusion of a complete and quality product.

      • +1

Man the BYD's Guitar strings on the doors, and the super small odometer screen was insanely comical.

        • +4

It is comical, but it's bigger than the odometer screen of the Model 3.

    • Possibly if you ride share, their warranty will be better, but for everyone else it's not even close, model 3 is much better value.
Now not everyone likes the Tesla experience, that is an equally valid reason to get a BYD, heck we need some variety on the road.

    • -3

BYD is that the company where there are YT videos of wheels falling off while they are driving ?

      • That's the Toyota BZ4X and Subaru Solterra

        • BZ4X and Solterra are worst value prepositions of our time. 79k for Solterra announced recently.

          Dreamin….

    • -1

      Not at all.

If you look at how often the BYD batteries are going to be cycled compared to Tesla there's very little chance they'll make it past 150,000 without some crazy high degradation.

Youd certainly not buy one second hand with over 100,000 km. This will become very apparent in a few years.

If you plan to flog it off before then all good. Depreciation might be pretty bad though.

    • There is more to value than price.

You're saying "BYD is cheaper." That's a completely different issue.

    • I suspect most early BYD cars will literally fall to bits in the next few years. Lets see how their preferred service company reacts then.

      • BYD Tang was sold since 2015. So we can check some early owner's experiences.

    • BYD Seal has better value on paper, but I know which company I would bet on being around in five years time.

      • yes. In theory BYD could pack and up and leave Australia when their cars start falling apart. If Tesla as a company fails, all their cars could stop working. Could Hackers break and push an update which disables all their cars?

        These are all possibilities.

    • Cmon man, are you comparing Iphone vs Huawei?

  • Not interested in a car with such poor build quality, especially for a price tag of 60K, there other electric vehicles offer significantly better build quality in comparison.

    • +13

Yup sure, that's why it's the most sold EV in Australia for 2023.

      • +53

the top 3 selling vehicles in australia are farm trucks made in thailand, certainly our nation has great taste in cars

        • Yeah, if they can keep their edge in the next year or tww, the options out there weren't exactly overflowing.

Poor build quality? Thats the american models you're thiking of? The chinese built ones are really good.

      • I hopped in the 2022 Model 3 recently, and man, the ride was kinda rough and not so comfy.
And, the interior quality didn't really scream "60K car" to me.

        • +1

Probably the 22" wheels or whatever it had. The size of wheels on cars these days is stupid.

          • @drprox: I rode in a few Tesla Ubers in the UK, they all had the standard 18" wheels and the ride was always very firm.

        • +9

A $60k car now days is a typical mid size SUV with some options from Hyundai, Kia, Toyota etc.. doesn’t mean what it used to I’m sad to say.

        • -4

Certainly at $60k I would be looking at a Kia EV6 instead.
