  • Also consider the Lenovo 14” Yoga 7i OLED with touchscreen and 360 rotation for an extra $50

  • Looks nice

  • This is actually pretty cool, the iGPU is insanely good while still being a low power usage Ultrabook. OLED 90Hz on top is awesome.

  • For gaming, if you plug the laptop into a USB-C dock, (to connect external display via DP, kb+m) ,
Do you lose any graphics performance, versus plugging the monitor directly into the laptop (HDMI)

    • This I would like to know as well! Does it support multiple displays through a USB-C dock?

  • First big flaw i've found on this laptop;

no Fn Lock… I can't seem to find any way to do this. I prefer to have access to the F1-F12 keys without having to press Fn button

    • you can change this in the bios, press f2 during start up

      • Thanks bro will try. Didn't think of that yet, will play around in the BIOS

        Any other settings worth tweaking?

        • id recommend turning off "memory integrity" under windows settings - apparently if you have it on it gimps the gpu.

    • What's the MSRP?

  • +2

The Ram speed is 6400 if anyone was wondering

  • Deal back on

  • Does Officeworks usually have further sale/discount on boxing day? Really tempted to get this. One of the very few laptops in the market with a 780m.

    • I just read about the 780m and I find it quite impressive. Do you know what other 14 inch laptops have 780m?

      • Not a lot that I know of. This Acer laptop is a very good deal IMO.

The other one I found is Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 from Harvey Norman when they had a 10% gift card offer a few days ago: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lenovo-yoga-pro-7-14-5-inch-…
A bit more expensive but it has double the RAM and SSD space and I believe a more premium build.

This one from HP looks pretty good too: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/822467

I ended up spending a bit more for a Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14" which comes with a discrete GPU when Shopback ran a 13% + 15% cashback promo on Lenovo online store.

        • Thanks, my budget max is $1200

The Lenovo yoga is out of my price range

The HP is worth considering and I prefer HP over Acer. I don't trust Acers build quality

How much did the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14" end up costing with all the cashback promos?

          • @Homr: It was slightly less than $1800 after $360 cashback. The 3 years warranty that comes with the pre-configured 32GB/1TB option did it for me in the end.

I had the same concern about Acer so didn't proceed with it but it sounds like a good laptop by all accounts.

I also considered the Asus ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go with the AMD Z1 extreme CPU which also has 780m. You can plug them in to a monitor at home and use it like a normal PC but in the end I preferred the convenience of having a bigger screen and keyboard whilst still being reasonably mobile.

            • @buddy03: Do you think they will release a newer version of 780m soon like 880m?

I'd like to play warzone 2 and cs2 on 1440p

              • +1

@Homr: I don't think it will be anytime soon. AMD will have the new 8000 series laptop CPUs (Hawk Point) available soon but from what I understand they are practically the same as the current gen CPU and they will still have 780m.

I heard there will be big improvement in the upcoming AMD Zen 5 CPUs (Strix Point) but you probably won't see them until end of 2024.

@buddy03: I might take my chances and wait for the Lenovo slim 5 to come down to sub 1.5k

I currently have a desktop with 1650 ddr6 and I can't see any benefit spending 1.2k to get a 780m laptop with little or no improvements from it.

  • This is good stuff. Will check at officeworks for boxing day

  • Got one today for my sister. Will share unboxing and experience. Bios updates and debloat here I come

  • Can anyone share their experience with this laptop please. I want to find out the fan noise and build quality of this laptop, along with whether the screen is glare or non-screen. Moreover, I wanted to know does people's eyes get hurt when they look the screen for long time, and how is the screen size compared to the other 14 inch laptops (Is it larger or smaller than other 14 inch laptops)? Thank you

It's good. The fan is quiet only kicks when on heavy load. The screen is gorgeous. There's a bit of glare when there's lots of light but it's a pleasure to work on. And of course you use your judgement. Don't stare at the screen constantly

        Thanks for your detailed response

          Pleasure

  • Also looking to get this for a son in high school, so two questions:

    1) Does it have dual channel RAM? Officeworks doesn't specify. One of the reasons for getting the 7840u is the OK iGPU that he could play CSGO, Payday, Roblox etc on at home.

    2) Does anyone have experience with OLED burn-in for school use, where it displays the taskbar most of the day but is closed and sleeps every 40min?

    • +1

I just grabbed one yesterday, so I answered some of your questions:

1)As far as I checked on my laptop using the Task Manager, under Performance > Memory, it shows 4 slots with 4GB each.

2)To prevent OLED burn-in, you can simply hide your taskbar.

      • Thanks! It always annoys me when a laptop is advertised with a top tier CPU but then crippled by single channel memory.

  • Is this laptop worth it at $1497?
