Install Stremio + Buy Offcloud = Basically like a Lifetime Netflix sub for $40usd.

Stremio works amazingly well with real-debrid, but it costs $16 EUR every 6 months.
Instead I've found Offcloud works very nicely with Stremio and they currently offer a lifetime subscription on stacksocial for $40.
They've been around since 2009 (14 years). You can watch unlimited Stremio streams with a Offcloud lifetime sub.

So what is Stremio?
It's an open source app similar to Plex/Kodi available on Windows, Mac, Linux, Google Play with over 10+ million installs. (4.2/5 rating). Most of the streams are 1080p/4K.

What is Real-Debrid/Offcloud?
It downloads and caches torrents/usenet files remotely and then streams the content to you, so you never have an issue with ISP complaints.

How do I install Stremio + Offcloud so they work together?
Read this: https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/comments/yi5jdw/ultim…

The part where you choose "Real-Debrid" from dropdown menu, instead choose Offcloud and enter the Offcloud API, which can be found in Accounts > API Key.

Once you try Stremio + Offcloud for a few days, it's time to go cord cutting.

"**NOTE: The guide suggests checking 'Don't show download to debrid links' – I recommend not checking this. By leaving it unchecked, you enable streaming even if the title isn't available, caching the file for others. If checked, you might see 'No streams available' if the file isn't cached, which disadvantages you and everyone else in the long term."

How can I tell if a file is cached and ready for instant streaming?
If the link shows [OC+] the file is cached, if it shows [OC-download], then it means you need to fetch it/cache it.

That’s a pretty sweet deal. But do they offer the same results as RD? Is there anyway to tell?

    • +10

No because it's not as popular. The more people that use OC, the more links will get cached. That's the whole idea behind these types of services. As of now, I notice mostly all new content is available on OC, but older titles are not, whereas RD covers old stuff pretty well.

      • +1

That makes sense. I thought that may be the case. Still a decent deal if you want the latest stuff I guess. But if you want it all, seems RD is still the way to go.

        • +4

You can use both at the same time on Stremio though (just install torrentio twice) - so one may want to get the liftime sub to OC while still using RD and then switch to OC when/if becomes popular enough

          • @liongalahad: Good point.

            • @zubzub: the only issue is if you are into very old stuff that is not seeded on torrent anymore, it may be too late for OC to ever get that stuff cached

              • @liongalahad: Last I recall, RD only caches for 15 days (reset upon every access), so niche/older stuff can certainly still disappear off RD.

                • +1

@Castcore: Im pretty sure it's a lot longer than that or I'm sure some of the old unknown movies Ive recently watched would not be there to watch. In fact I dont think it is stated anywhere how long RD caches their content

                • @Castcore: I disagree, I'm currently watching older stuff/niche at this moment without any issues (Rd) such as viper, outer limits, old batman etc.

        Pirate life with Nord vpn.

        • you aren't invisible with a vpn champ

          • -1

@Kozhutki: Huh? Tell that to all the corporations who uses vpn. May be they just wanna be visible. Just a thought.

            • @unhuman:

              1. Depends on how the VPN communication is encrypted
              2. Depends on if you have DNS over VPN
              3. Depends on if the VPN provider will leak your data themselves.
              4. Depends on the data pattern even if it's encrypted (for example, huge amount of upload/download in certain packet size/time interval, you can hide yourself inside the closet, but you can't hide a truck under a closet)

Corporate VPN is aimed to not leak sensitive data, and usage/browsing history etc is not that important (e.g. They might not care if others know the user submitted a spreadsheet or a piece of code, as long as the file itself is not leaked), whereas your personal VPN is aimed to not leak your usage

          • +1

@Kozhutki: nor are you with real debrid or this one.

            • -1

@memez: never said you were, it's also not something I'm concerned with

        • +1

yeah that $1 nord sub really got u covered

  • +2

This sounds interesting any other thoughts on this?

  • +16

Lifetime sub for such kind of service seems unsustainable.

    • +5

Definitely agree. It's a punt and for $40, which is like 2 months of a standard streaming sub, I don't mind. FYI OC has been around for 14 years.

    • +1

Only if it's always available and widely known. You cuold have said the same about the old lifetime Getflix subs but i've had one for nearly 10 years or so and it's been brilliant. People moan you don't get Netflix on that plan but I've been using them for BBC as well as their included VPN and proxies for geo-hoping and even torrenting for years and years. Service still going strong presumably because there's still people out there singing up on the month-to-month. Hopefully this can stay the same.

      • +3

I still have my getflix sub from one of the very old subs — still works on Netflix for US-only! 100% was just a punt back in the day, but it's paid for itself and then some.

      • I have getflix but never used it haha what do I do with it

        • +1

You just configure your DNS on your device (router or PC - depends what you're trying to do) using Getflix's DNS settings, update the registered IP in the Getflix dashboard and choose which services you want it enabled/disabled on. If you're stuck then email their support, I remember I did in the early days.

It's solid. In 2016, it certainly seemed like Netflix were playing wack a mole with it and it was down as much as it was up, but that seems to have changed.

          • @pais: I have it, but have never been able to get it to work with a TV, Chromecast or other streaming devices, only mobile devices and PC's, but I don't use them to consume entertainment content.

Even tried updating router settings, but no luck.

            • +2

@elektron: These often use hard-coded DNS servers (Chromecast in particular), and the simplest solution is to configure your router to drop traffic destined for Google's DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4), at which point it should revert to using the DHCP/manually supplied DNS (which should be the GetFlix DNS).

It would only make sense that various other streaming HW platforms implement a similar system, it's just a matter of working out what, andnvkockihgbu5m

Just my 2c on the matter.

              • @parad0x: Thanks, I.might give it another try at some point.

                • +1

@elektron: @elektron No probs. Feel free to PM if you need a hand along the way

      • +1

Haha. The old getflix lifetime sub. Yep, got that too. Then streaming companies came to Australia. Remember buying those cheapie hulu and netflix vouchers on ebay. Reckon it was $20 for a year of Hulu or something. Netflix being not much more. And getting a US cable login so could stream HBO, ESPN etc. How things have changed now

    • I feel the same about house prices.

  • +2

It adds $4.99 for taxes and handling

    • Yes, it added it after proceeding with payment, which is sneaky.
Paying with card set as United States or a PayPal account with U.S. address probably would've had no tax.

      • Naah i paid in USD it still got added

        • +1

          With US address?

        • +1

I said my state was Oregon and only paid a $1 handling fee

    • so how much is it after everything in AUD?

      • $44.98USD, so ~$65.63AUD.

      • 62.57 AUD with Paypal

    • its the GST tax. If your located outside Australia or use non AU address, no tax is added.

  • +11

    1st rule of fight club

    • +2

Hahah. I still consider fight club in the NZB realm.

Oh shit I’ve said too much.

  • Looks good, but it doesn't support many file hosts.

  • +1

Took a punt. Worth it just for the torrent/nzb support tbh. You don't even get nzb support with RD.

    • Can you elaborate on how it supports nzb? Does it provide a direct download link rather than using something like NZBGet?

      • +1

They provide you with a usenet server for you to integrate with your client. 100GB per day ('fair use') included in the plan.

  • Is this something that would allow one to stream content onto their phone?

    • +1

Android, yes. iPhone, not very easily. You need to set it up with the Stremio app.

      • +4

iPhone works fine… you just need to have Outplayer or VLC https://blog.stremio.com/using-stremio-web-on-iphone-ipad/

        • +1

          Correct.

      • +2

Think Stremio web works just fine on iOS. Just have to set it to play videos in an external player such as vlc. Tried it once on my boys iPad and worked fine.

        • +3

Yep, exactly. It’s not as smooth as just using the app on Android. But yeah totally doable.

      • +1

Thank you. S22 Ultra. Hoping it's nearly as simple as if it was via Windows or some other alternative. Hard in my house to get big screen time as despite having what seems like 100 screens and 100 PCs, 1 of my relatively small family always seems to occupy it. Keep buying PCs and they eventually get 'absorbed' 🤣

        • Hahah. Least they can’t take your phone from you.

          • +2

@zubzub: You haven't met my family. 🤣 they are probably on it when I sleep and shower.

  • -3

I am more of a syncler+ and premiumize person

    • +1

How do you do mr meeseeks? ;)

      • -1

        lol why the downvotes haha

    • +1

Syncler is garbage. It would be fine if it was free. But you're paying for a product that is inferior in certain aspects and has worse support than a free product lol.

  • +2

Cheers OP. Hopefully its really "lifetime" but if it lasts me at least a year, ill be happy.

Edit: Tried some file hoster links and they didnt work. Tried adding a magnet link and it seems slow to download. Same with pre-cached files. Was a slow buildup to a decent speed.
Good for the price but nowhere near as good as Real-Debrid

  • +2

If you're hesitating, you can create a free account first and set it up with Stremio using the OP's instructions. You only get 3 links (streams) but it works it treat with a free account. I just tested with the movie Saltburn using Android. (BTW, if you're streaming Saltburn, don't be confused like I was - the 4:3 aspect ratio is normal!)

  • +2

Last Changelog update was over 1 year ago.
Kinda really want to buy this because I always get RD every now and then for like 1 or 2 things.

But a bit worried that this could be a last money grab before pulling the pin. Looks like the deal on stack social has reviews from a couple years ago tho, but a lot of them sound kinda sus/fake.

I dunno, anyone wanna convince me to jump on it? I run my own server with Plex and Jellyfin, I used RD before that but wanted to be able to share with family, something like this isn't necessary but would be handy for those occasional things that have poor seeds or whatever.

    • +1

F*** it we ball. Cost me $66.06. If I get a couple uses out of it (getting faster downloads on random torrents) then I'll be happy enough.

      • +9

I regret it, don't be like me. After testing the services, I don't think this deal is worth it. It does work..when it works, but I'm finding that the speed and consistency of it grabbing non cached stuff being very very slow and often it just throws an error and won't add it. I can't even figure out what the errors mean or why they're happening. You also don't get a download speed or ETA for adding stuff to your cloud. 50GB is very limiting too This is completely ignoring the fact that the download speed from their servers is not ideal.

A bit torn because I think that perhaps for basic use on Stremio this might be pretty good if you can find a cached link, but considering that's not my primary use case this really can't compare with the other debrid services.

        • Where was is pulling from? Real Debrid pulls from Sydney

          • @memez: The only servers I have pulled from so far are the following:
            Fr - France
            Fi - Finland
            De - Germany
            Ca - Canada

Using a US vpn significantly helps with speeds on already cached content. Offcloud still sucks for adding non cached content.

  • So I activated OC and installed Stremio and the Torrentio addon. When find a movie it shows a list of links but wont play. What am I missing? Do I need to do something in OC first?

    • Try downloading the torrent in OC 1st and see how it goes

    • +1

      stremio, real debrid and torrentio

    • did you add the OC API key in Torrentio before clicking Install?

      • Yes i did. The movie link shows up in OC, I can watch directly on OC or download, just can't play on Stremio.

        • do you have VPN enabled? if so try turning it off to see if that's the problem

        • Im having similar issues. Links show but nothing loads.

    • Same problems with stremio. Looking at my VLC stream list though it isn't using the offcloud download link but has torrentio in there. It isn't relaying the correct link to the streaming application. Might give this a try with Kodi instead.

    • See my detailed post on the next page for tips to resolve network and buffering issues

  • +4

Can't look past Real Debrid for this kind of service. Been rock solid got over a decade.
    RIP Warez-BB.

    • +1

Warez-BB was my go to back in the day RG links had everything!

  • New to this…can you view the shows/movies available?

    • If you get Real Debrid it literally almost has every torrent cached…. Apparently this only has newer content only.

  • If a torrent isn't cached, can you still watch it instantly with the potential for buffering, or do you need to wait for the whole download to finish first?

Edit: I tried with an old modern family episode, and it said downloading - but never actually loaded after a few minutes for only a few hundred MB

    • +1

Usually it downloads the entire season so it can take some time.

If you look at the cloud section on Offcloud, you can see everything thats downloading in there.

Probably best to try load an old show a few hours before watching if possible.

  • Can someone explain where is the content from? I installed streamio but couldnt stream anything, it was pointing me to subscription services like netflix. Im probably missing something sorry.

    • +5

In Stremio you should uninstall the 'WatchHub' addon which is what is pointing you to the legit sources, then install the 'torrentio' addon (see how to in the orginal post here). Whe configuring torrentio you include your new OffCloud API key.

Now when you go into an item you'll get the OffCloud links.

    • You need to uninstall that addon and install torrentio

      https://www.reddit.com/r/StremioAddons/s/OvrKWuuZVv

  • +20

Bit of useful info for anyone new to Stremio.

    1. Might find it useful to uninstall 'WatchHub' addon. This stops Stremio displaying the links out to the offficial streaming apps on which content is located and is installed by default. Makes it easier to get to your OffCloud content as it's then put front and centre in the UI.

    2. Might find it useful to install the 'Cyberflix Catalog' addon. This gives Stremio integrated lists of popular/trending shows/movies split by the major streaming platforms. Makes casual browsing for something to watch much easier, as well as quickly finding that show you know is on Netflix, say. The Stremio Discover tab also becomes much more functional with it in place.

    • thank you, I did those steps but when I select a movie, it says no streams found.

    • And torrentio add-on I think changes things a lot.
      Both other recommendations are great

      • thanks for the tip ! that works !

    • Have you found a decent solution for a list of kids shows? I looked around haven't found anything really.

      • Cyberflix Catalog has a kids section.
Click configure and then select the categories of interest.

  • Possible to get this workimg on google Chromecast (tv)?

    • Most likely use case for this is in conjunction with Stremio, which is an app in the Google Play Store on the CCwGTV.

      TL;DR: Yes.

    • I am getting error while trying to install stremio on GCTV

      • Probably a storage space issue, I've had heaps of apps fail that will succeed once you delete a few things

    • Yeah i got this working last night just installed directly from the Chromecast with Google TV apps search

  • +8

Going to downvote as a warning for others considering buying.
Had a quick test - torrent downloading rather slow at 6-9MB/s compared to AllDebrid's 30-35MB for the same file. Was slower to start also on OC.
Rapidgator and Uploaded are on their landing page but neither work. Uploaded not even on the list.
k2s says it's dead on status but when you try to debrid it says it's only for premium users - guessing this was back when it worked but just generally shows they don't have their crap together for me.
If they haven't sorted these things in 14 years I wouldn't count on it now.
Might still be of value to some but host support is next to none so a hard pass for me

    • agree on some points. its bad if you're using it for file site downloading. RD is 100x better, but for stremio it works quite well, esp since its lifetime and 1080p streams are near instant for me.

    • Testing a 4K bluray 26.6gb file. Starts off at around 3MB/s, currently at 33MB/s.

Agreed on Stremio, I think it works for basic users but advanced users would want something better.

    • -1

      That’s why premiumize is best

      • I've always had >250mbps from real-debrid, assume Premiumize is the same.

Just tested on symmetric gigabit at work, solid 700mbps connection over WIFI 6.

    • Streaming 4K content requires approximately 2.5 MB/s. So who cares if Offcloud tops out at 6-9 MB/s?
