this is as short as a text message.

    • +3

It looks like a commercial break - shows "saving" instead of price.

      • But wait, there's still more!!

      • … changing channel to skip the ad… lol

    • +4

For some reasons I liked it. Not the best deal but one of the shortest for sure. Sure as hell beat those copy-paste laptop posts.

      • +3

You realise there's title guidelines for posting a bargain right?

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:title_guidelines

Otherwise we'll have a pandemonium of unclear post titles. Also prevents flood of comments asking how much for the price of (in this case) iPhones..

      • +1

Great to see a first time poster didn’t say ‘first time posting, go easy on me’. I think that’s in the guidelines somewhere. Well done OP

  • +5

    $100 off, wow generous

    • +4

We are APPLE a trillion dollarydoo company, and you do not deserve a discount on our glorious products.

Buy our phone anyway and as a special favour we promise not to artificially slow your phone operating system down when your battery starts to age a bit - deal?

      • +1

Or mysteriously gobble up your phone’s storage as soon as you freed up some space.

      • This statement sounds accurate to me , but apple does work , warts and all.

  • +4

All iphone 15 models are currently $100 off at JB.

The Pro and Pro Max aren’t on sale.

    • -8

Ditto - any deals around for the pro max?

      • sorry I'm new here - any reason I should know why this received so many neg votes? I came to this thread looking for a deal on the pro max as the post said 'all models' were discounted. Cheers

  • +4

Can purchase for $1325 on ebay with code HGTSNS. Only 3 available in black.

    • +2

The true bargains are in the comments. Thanks for sharing!

    • +1

There was a deal for $1275 just a few days ago! I'm spewing I've missed it!
I refuse to buy it for more than $1300…..

      • +1

Officeworks just applied price beat for me on their “price beat guarantee” phone line (beating costco price of 1349) glad I didn’t waste my time asking in store because everyone says the manager always says no. Came to $1282

  • +4

If only everyone can stop buying, so the prices can go down further.

    • People will still buy the lowest capacity Pro, even when it reaches $2,000.

      • +3

Apart from camera, what's the pro better at?
I'm ugly so never cared about camera

        • +6

Since your ugly, why not just buy a competent phone like the Google Pixel 7 (256GB) outright for $629 instead?

          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/g…

You can use the $770 you save (by not paying the Apple tax) on wining and dining and winning the affection of a member of the opposite, or the same sex, or something that thinks they aren't a sex and enjoy life :-)

          • @shutuptakemymoney101: because it'll die just after 2 years and Google will force you to recite the ACL to them before they will repair it.

            • @maddoglee: That's legitimate, not sure that's the default stance for all warranty interactions with Google though?

              • +1

@shutuptakemymoney101: That's true, not a default stance but it's a bit of a poor effort on Google's part… I got just over 2 years for a pixel 6 and the camera dies on me. Did a full factory reset, all the troubleshooting. Just warning that they'll drag their feet to honour your rights as a consumer. I'm in the midst of getting it sorted and am not really impressed atm.
They offered me a 20% discount on a Pixel 7 or 8 as their gesture of good will… yeah, like I'm gonna drop over a grand on a phone that won't last 2 years… pfft

        • Cameras can take photos of other things besides you. Like other more attractive people and/or scenery

        • 120hz screen refresh rate in pro and pro max vs 60hz in 15 and plus

Apple knows suckers will pay extra for that once getting used to 120hz screen - it is very obvious when scrolling.

N.B. I am one of those suckers.

          • @siuol: Thanks, my old man wouldn't be able to distinguish I guess. Just need to buy a camera protector that shows 3 instead of two lenses to look pro.

          • +1

@siuol: I have 120hz on my Poco X3 but prefer 60hz. It's not as smooth but it doesn't play with my head and gives me more battery life too

      • +1

LOL the lowest capacity Pro Max is $2199 now, so thats already happened

        • The lowest capacity of pro and pro max started at 256 gb though and 15/plus start at 128gb so if comparing 15 plus 256 gb and 15 pro max 256 gb the price difference will be $350 only

          • +1

@siuol: That's how Apple suckers people into buying one or two steps up, knowing once they have a Pro they will never go back to slumsville.

        • Thanks, I meant to write Pro, not Pro Max.

  • Great price.

I got an iPhone 15 yesterday, after having used an android for my whole life.

I don't think it's for me, but I'll willing to give it another month. There's things about it which are really good, and then things about it which make no sense at all.

The hardest thing is figuring out the gestures. Once I figured out how they worked, the phone felt kind of normal. But yeah, some of the UI choices are baffling (like how I can't just place icons wherever I want, they have to cascade from the top). The hardware is pretty good though, the default software is pretty good, and the camera is amazing. The settings menu shits all over any android I've used lol.

I think maybe the iPhone suits a certain kind of person who has very general needs, and I think it does that really well. But there's so much I miss from Android in terms of customisation.

    • +1

also, the animations , touch point responses are so slow and dull on iPhone as compared to android. After using Android, iPhone feels like a toy with so many restrictions.

      • +2

One thing I've learnt recently is that toy software isn't bad and shouldn't be seen as inferior.

Ableton Live is technically toy software, but that's also what makes it so effective. It allows you to focus on what's important, instead of worrying about endless options. It's why people are able to create amazing things with it.

    • I actually hate the settings, more so how every app has the settings in the Settings app vs their own app.

      • I always found android setting overly confusing. Like it wasn't clear where anything was, with the iPhone I feel it's a lot clearer how everything is organised. Furthermore, you can easily search for everything and it clearly tells you where in the tree it is.

        • Same with Android, can use the search and it is useful when sifting through all the customisation options!

      • and also that the notification settings in iOS are either all off or all on, no fine customisations like android.

        • That’s up to the apps to offer that granularity at a message type level, otherwise the OS can show different notification styles at an app level, and allow high priority ones through even in sleep/DND modes. Apps can obviously be disabled from using notifications too.

          • @Randolph Duke: do some apps allow finer notifications tuning in iOS? which ones of you can point out. I haven't seen any till now and would be keen to see the one.

    • -1

With my wife owning an iPhone and me always on android. There's never a time where I think android is better. iPhone always feels nicer to use.
The only thing I didn't like is I got used to gestures on android and iPhone didn't have them so it was a struggle adapting the two.
The biggest downside is that iPhone is good for 2 years before they start crippling the device.

      • +1

My older android phone that's 1/4th of the price has a significantly nicer screen than this base model iPhone 15. But they both have their pros and cons.

        • -1

Apologies I should have mentioned we've only ever used the pro max from apple since it's inception. I guess I'm comparing top of the line android and top of the line apple

      • +4

I was using a 5 year old iPhone XS from 2018 and it worked fine until I upgraded to the 15.

Many people use older iPhones and they run well.

        • +1

Yeah never understood these “crippling” comments, iOS offers major OS version support far longer than anyone else, and 5 year old iPhones running the OS are perfectly usable, if not a little slow sometimes.

        • -2

The phone does run ok but the camera does drop in quality after the second year update. It has with every phone we've bought. I had the iPhone X and my wife has had 4, 6 plus, 7 plus, xs max and 13 pro max. And all cameras start performing worse after 2nd major iOS update. It's not a coincidence. My mate has the same issue but he just changes his phone every 3 years now, which is not something we want to do anymore.
I know for a fact Samsung does not do this as I also have bought the z fold 3 and z fold 4 as well as had the note 20

          • @maverickjohn: Sounds like your subconscious telling you you want the latest phone.

            • @Randolph Duke: That's not the case at all but believe what you want

              • +1

@maverickjohn: I’ve had multiple iPhones since the 3GS - the photos do not get worse with updates. Looking at newer models might convince you your phone is taking worse photos.

          • @maverickjohn: It's true. After five years of use, the camera makes it appear I have aged dramatically.

        • I went from a 7+ to a 15 Pro Max and one of the best things of the 7 was that it just ran. Sure it was slow at many things and the battery - as physics would have it - was getting maybe four hours of screen on time. Other than that it wasn’t too shabby.

      • My pixel 6 camera is intermittently playing up and Google just won't willingly repair it as my 2-year manufacturer warranty was up on November 2023. I first started complaining 5 Dec.
I still have iPhone 4S's that I muck around with and still use…As much as I hate Apple, Google is just too frustrating to deal with.
My wife is still on the iPhone XS and there doesn't seem to be a need to upgrade.

    • Facetime is a magic unlike finger print reader on S23 ultra which sucks if you apply screen protector

      • faceid?
good luck when you are driving, your phone is in the phone mount and then you need to unlock it using faceid.

        • +3

Mine is in a car mount and can detect my face and unlock from a fair distance away without me needing to do anything special like move my head closer

Have you actually tried to unlock an iphone using faceid or are you just making assumptions that it won't work?

          • @illusion99: which model you got and is your mount the one on windshield which are far closer to face than vent mounts?
i had iPhone 12 pro max and this thing was a big annoyance.

        • That was one annoying thing with the iPhone but on the bright side it keeps your from using your phone while driving.

    • I think the iphone was way better back in the early days of smartphones and soooo much more stables than my early pda's
Samsung have come a long way. Ill never go back to apple. Still grumpy with theit anti music piracy rules form 10 years ago.

    • +1

      You're a brave lad, impressive.

I can't do it, I've tried, they make great hardware but my god some of the stuff is just so ridiculous.
Well done and bang on with the stupid 'cascade from top' thing on the icons. It made sense in 2008 and 2011 but now, cmonnnnnn!

If I want my Outlook icon bottom left all the time and my Google maps bottom right, let me do it.

That's just one of dozens of little decisions they make for people which are just too much. I don't expect full Android customisability but so much not for me.

      • You know what's funny, I've been using both phones over the past few days, and I now absolutely can't stand my android.

I guess how I'd describe it is that from a functionality perspective, the iPhone is just so much more coherent. Like everything just feels so well integrated together, whereas everyone on the android just feels so patched together.

Now granted, I'm using a shitty Redmi android (and I assume MIUI is garbage) but I can say with confidence that I now think my Redmi Note 10 Pro is a piece of crap compared to the iPhone 15.

Of course, the iPhone isn't perfect. You can't emulate retro games on it, which sucks. And sure, some of the UI decisions aren't great. But as a phone, I think it's excellent.

        • There's a lot of really good, consistent stuff that makes them feel nice for average users.

If you're a hard nerd and want to do some obscure stuff you'll be stopped dead in your tracks.

I recently tried to copy some images on to an iPhone to edit an Instagram reel and my god…. It was painful as an android guy

  • Does Apple Store price match? I have some Apple gift cards.

    • +1

By and large yes, but it is technically at the manager's discretion

    • Yes, up to 10%

  • $1387 at OW, so no chance for a price beat.

    • +4

OW now has a AI tool which will adjust price automatically based on competitors. Just need to be fast enough to beat them. This was case since couple of months from my observation

  • +2

Costco $50 cheaper than this for members

  • Do people actually get upgraded storage space on their iPhones? 128 gb is $1400 and 512 gb is $1950….that price hike is quite insane.

    • Be proud to fund apple by buying 512gb, jobs will bless you

    • If only there was an in between storage amount which was also ridiculously exorbitant and taking the piss.

      • Don't worry they will introduce an intermediate storage amount, and when they do it will be revolutionary, and the Angels will sing.

Thank You Apple for blessing us, the 'poor folk' will rejoice and write songs about Apple and life will again return to equilibrium.

  • +1

what is the best phone ( preferably android) for a good camera ? I am thing it biting on this one, just got the camera.

    • +1

My personal take : Pixel pro for photos and iphone pro for videos, for both with decent quality go for galaxy ultra .

    • Pixel 8 Pro

  • +1

I'm trying to burn my ultimate gift cards but JBhifi excluding the pro max is making it really difficult

  • Apple must be struggling selling the new model if they're approving discounts on their phone at this time of the year.

    • +1

Multi-million/Trillian dollar companies Google, Apple et al must all really be doing it tough at the moment with the cost-of-living crisis being what it is.

I had the opportunity recently to speak to a couple of families living in their cars at my local park, they were both consumed with regret and grief that they could only afford a Pixel 8 (non-pro) and iPhone 15 (non-pro) respectively and couldn't offer significantly this year to the Google/Apple financial bottom line.

Hopefully things will pick up in 2024 and $3K+ phones will become the norm as we all walk around with overflowing money falling from our pockets that we desperately want to get rid of.

  • Damn, just upgraded the wifes Xr to a 15plus 2 weeks ago.
I couldnt find anything on their website, but do jbhifi have a price guarantee at all, offering the price difference or credit?

    • Did you pay by credit card, if so maybe it has price protection?

  • I don't suppose anyone knows when this deal ends do they? Not back in Aus for 2 weeks

  • can you trade in your old iPhone at jbhifi? Is valuation similar to apple store?

  • Are these now just locked in as the new prices? It seems that way

    • Ok never mind, they've finally reset the prices back up the full $100 extra.

Same damn day I return from overseas!
