  • Price beat at OW ?

    • Did they beat by 5% at Office Works?

      • Sure did. Paid $132

  • +2

That's a nice price!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • r they available in every store?
btw do they have WD my passport 2TB?

    • Don't know about other stores sorry. They had the Seagate 2TB Expansion drive for $119. The 3TB is much better value.

      • +2

2TB Expansion Desk is $99 in the latest OW catalogue, just in case anyone wanted a 2TB

        • +2

so sad, just bought myself Toshiba 2TB Black Canvio Desk USB 3.0 for $115, speeeewing…

        • I would be hard pressed to use more than 1TB but that's me. Who here uses more than 2TB?

        • -1

137tb used here, have capacity here for 209tb (thats all formatted capacity naturally, after parity drives etc)

        • what do you store on it?

        • Primarily HD recordings from a go- pro and a pair of blackvue incar cameras. Chews in excess of 100gb per day.

    • +1

Good guys have those 2TB 2.5" drives for $187 .. if you buy two online you get $50 score credit with the Bonus Offer going on at the moment on there website.

      • +1

but i want one 3tb desktop (must be 7200rpm), one 2tb portable. and i am travelling oversea…
is this Seagate Expansion 3TB Desktop 7200rpm?

      • hmmmm interesting

      • Got a link to the bonus offer? I looked at their bonus offer page, and I could only see a $50 relating to Samsung notebooks?

  • Yeah good price, paid $150 for one last week ><

  • Not shown in their latest catalogue.

    Only got 2tb @ $119

  • Great price thanks for sharing!
getting one soon as I knock off

    • -4

dunno why you were negged for that comment. seems fairly similar to a few others.
let me even that back out ;)

      • I think some people just want to use up their 5 allocated daily negs no matter who's in their way.

        • +2

Guessing - but maybe because tds has said great price, plans to get one, but hasn't given a positive vote to deal?

        • -1

Maybe OzBargain should put in a reminder to vote positive if you use certain key words in your comment seeing people seem to forget often.

"Thank you for your comment, we noticed a positive tone in your words e.g. Great, Thanks., please + this deal if you like it."

  • Good price. Just watch when cracking open and installing in a pc? A lot have issues with >2TB

    • +1

Any issues if you were to use it as intended?

On a side note - Why does the rep section have Australianbridaldirectory.com.au ?

  • I suppose it's lucky that I've only been buying portable HDDs and haven't thought about getting a desktop HDD till now. Can do with an extra 3Tb.

Does this thing have air vents for cooling or is it fully enclosed? I probably would fear this thing burning out if there was a lot of dust getting into it.

    • Just looked at my one and there are vents underneath

      • Thanks for that mate.

I suppose I should consider packing up my speakers as I only use my headset these days. That'll free up space on my table and make it easier to move things around when vacuuming around the desk.

I've already counted 200Gb of photos, music, images and uni notes that I could move to an external drive. Pity this unit isn't one of those vertical standing ones.

  • While this deal is tempting. I just don't like adding another power brick to my multi socket plug. Great value per size ratio. It is tempting but that power brick is a deal breaker for me. Plus the deal anyway as this is good value.

    • +2

Yep, go buy one of those 3TB USB-powered 2.5" jobbies. Much better.

      cough

      • You'd think that thing would have an operating system with the amount of storage it contains, It'd almost be a shame not to get a cheap AMD desktop and just fit it out instead.
        http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…
I'd use this and just throw it together with cheap parts. I'd just put the operating system on a USB stick or even one of those cheap 30GB PCI SSDs. Plus it would come with at least 1 network interface with the option to add heaps more with all those other slots.

Although I'm sure this would use alot less power, be more reliable and etc. I just like having the extra features and power.

Check out this bad boy (it can host 10HDDs and supports RAID 0,1,5,10, JBOD… yeah….

I can confirm if your an aps employee you get another 10% off this price.

    • So it's $119 if you're an APS employee and ING account holder? :D

      • Not sure what you mean about the ING account.

        • Had the 5% rebate in mind, but in hindsight, wasn't thinking straight :-/

    • By APS do you mean "Australian Postal Service" or "Australian Public Service"? What proof did you need to show?

      • Australian postal service. Just need your APS number/ID tag.

  • Nice price. Nearly as cheap as the ones picked up a few months back when DD did the 30% discount offer ($132 delivered, by memory).

Not sure if they're still got the "ridiculously expensive ST33000651AS HDD if bought as a bare drive" in them?

    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=ST33000651A…

    • sorry, who's DD?

      • Deals Direct.

A woman blessed with very good genes.

  • Are these ther good ones people were using for NAS units? I'm looking for some hdd for a nas, are these good?

Or should I just buy internal wd hdds?

    • +3

I had issues with the two that I bought for my Seagate Blackarmor NAS (bought them about 3 months ago)… Although the device would see them, and I could use them as separate volumes, I couldn't get them to sync in any sort of RAID arrangement. Eventually bought two internal drives…

      • What the hell, why neg Jetsom for giving feedback ffs.

    • Don't forget you lose warranty by removing the hard drive from it's enclosure.

I've been waiting for Western Digital 2TB 7200rpm internal drives to drop to a reasonable price for more than a year. WD have never been able to get to a similar price point as their competitors.

I'm probably just going to get internal Seagates for my NAS, either 3 x 2TB or 3 x 3TB, depending on what I can afford.

  • Has anyone cracked one open or looked at the diags to see what drive model is inside?

    • Just bought two from OW QVB Melb for $132.0 each. Still quite a few left. Seagate Disc Wizard reported one as ST3000DM001. The other not open yet.

  • Cheap! Fingers crossed & hoping 3TBs drops to approx $125 around this time next month just b4 xmas.

    • -1

      Not going to happen.

If your lucky you may see the Toshiba's bare drives just dip under 140 maybe, since they are 147 currently.

  • Good deal, I bought it from JBHiFi just yesterday $10 dearer.

    • Got mine from Officeworks for $10 dearer too ($149.00) :-(

Waited for a week to see if a better deal came along, typical lol…

  • +1

none on northern beaches 'cept Dee Why, 1 left.

  • Hey all is this full USB operated?? Or it has a power cable too?? Can't stand the ones that need AC power

    • It has power cable

      • +1

        Standards:
        2.5" = USB powered
        3.5" = AC powered

        • Thx!! Makes sense now :)

  • Just went to Post Office in Balmain. They have the same drive but for $159. When I showed them the above image of the receipt they said different Post Office's charge different rates sometimes and as it isn't in their brochure as a special they won't reduce the price to $139.!!

    • I'd ring Australia Post about that one. Sounds like some "know-it-all who really knows jack sh!t" AP employee giving you a bum steer.

      • Thanks.. Will do.. They pointed out the 2TB on special in the catalogue and on the shelf and then said the 3TB was as it says on the shelf $159 and not on special..

        • Did you go an LPO? LPOs technically don't have to put their prices down for some sales (since it reduces their margin to practically nothing/negative)… maybe this is one of them.

  • No stock at Forest Hill. Anyone else actually been able to pick one up?

  • What kind of drives are in these now for those who bought one?

  • i think the $139 price is for the usb 2.0. not the usb 3.0

    • really?

      • i will look for the catalogue and find out. see which product code its for. the usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 has different product codes

    • OP, have you got a photo of the retail packaging?
The receipt doesn't really state whether the item is USB 2 or 3

    • $139 is USB 3. I have 1. It's a white box with 'Expansion' written on the front in green text. Grey stamp indicating size/speed. BARCODE: 7 63649 03944 1

  • +2

Ok. The product code is 26153. And this is for the usb2.0. 3tb. Offer ends 9/12

    • damn

    • +1

If that's the case the OP should edit the title as it's a little misleading

    • The one I just got is USB2.0. Not that it really matters to me as my desktop only has USB2.0 on it.

  • couldnt find it in South Melbourne

  • Also note that Seagate have just released a new version of 3TB External USB3 with a slightly lower RRP it seems. I've not seen any reports if it's better or worse than the older version (looks aside) - the older one had a reputation for getting very hot.

  • Any idea if the hard drive is soldered to the casing? I'd love to take it out and use it in my NAS!

  • Went into OW at QV (VIC city). TOld the guy about the deal, took it to the frotn desk and rang it up for me. Paid $132. Thanks for posting, very good deal even though a hotswap case would be better. Will have to transfer and get rid of 1 of my 1TB internal drives now…

  • As a true ozbargainer, I got it the cheapest …..see my receipt here : http://db.tt/QRKkJ2Ng

Now don't ask me how they got it wrong because I showed them the auspost receipt.
I only realised when I came out of OW that they price beat the $137 !

Paid by my Ing orange everyday so got 5% further discount. So cost me $123.65.

    • +1

ING discount is only on transactions <$100 -_-

I would've asked to split payment to $99 and the rest on another card or cash.

      • +1

Yep, my bad…don't feel like a true ozbargainer anymore :)

        • Mmm yeah those little terms and conditions have to be read carefully… it says only 5% rebate on $99.99 transactions….

  • Is this the new sleeker version? JB has the newer 3TB version in a sleeker case for $149. The 3TB at a PO I visited was tagged $199 and was the older USB 3.0 version.

  • How are you getting the price matching? Ive never done this whole price match thing.. Do you just walk in and say hey AP does this for this price? Or do you guys take a print out of the recepit..
    - Ozbargain noob.

    • I just showed them the Auspost receipt on my mobile.

      • They refused to honor the receipt on my phone, unless they can ring the actual store at padstow and find out. Which they can't… because Australia post doesnt actually show specific store numbers…

        EDIT:
So, contacted a friend in wagga who was actually just outside AP. They had it for $139 so i got her to grab me one :)

  • +1

can anyone post a photo of $139 HDD at AP please? Then everyone here can use it to price match at OW as far as my experience tells…

  • I phoned the Australia Post Support No. 137678 Got them to check stock in Brisbane Part No 10057, is USB 3.
Runcorn had 22 in stock yesterday. Got OW Wooloongaba to pricematch less 5% picked 2 up yesterday. All explained to the Lady @ OW before driving there. Already put aside @ front counter. Paid & then back home.

  • I bought one from the Robina PO.
It had a large sticker saying $139. Its USB2.

I went over to JBHiFi next door and they happily price matched it with the newer (white & green box) USB3 version.

Both have the same hdd inside, its a ST3000DM001, which I believe is 7200rpm, 64mb cache, sata3.

  • -3

I signed up to ozbargain so I can saythis
this is USB 2.0, so not a great deal at all

    • +1

but if u price match with OW… u will get USB3.0 if u 'smart' enough…
not that i need the USB 3.0 but i bought it from OW last night with USB3.0 on it… :))

  • +1

Went to my local office works (joondalup in Perth), told the worker there about the Australia post price so he went and call them.. Australia post guy on the phone said they only stock the 2tb.. so I call them then and there told them a mate definitely brought one from your shop… then he goes i'll check again……. finally comes back and says they have them but he doesn't know the price… finally gets back saying 139 down from 208, at which point had put it on speaker so the office works guy hears it. PRICE BEAT WORKS. Why don't they do a proper check the first time?
    (USB 3.0 )

  • Thanks ouzholic for post!!!! - I got the last one at Noarlunga (SA) Post Office at this price - the guy serving me was jealous - he didnt realise how cheap it was!

  • Just picked one up for $139 from my local PO - its a USB 3 model, they also had the 2TB version for $99

  • Got one at my local JB HiFi for same price! it's usb 3.0 definitely

  • Got one pricematched at OW. $132.05

  • I got one pricematched at Officeworks today for just over $132 :) and I got the USB 3 model too :)

    • Would you kindly post the receipt please? I can then go and get one without having to argue with them. Thanks so much.

  • +2
    • now it does!
      thanks!
