Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones - $327 @ Harvey Norman [Pick up or Delivery]

551

Overrated Beats by Dre headphones for $327 at Harvey Norman. Available in different colours. [edit: they've down the price by $2 after hearing all your 'professional' opinions below lol)

If your missing some 'swag' or wanna walk around looking a 'douche' then these are the headphones for you! Draws plenty of attention.

I actually own a pair of these headphones….. but refuse to wear them outdoors lol

IMO - The sound quality is pretty good - strong bass, minimal distortion on max volume, instruments and vocals are quite clear; however I have noticed that sound leak is an issue - i.e. even on medium volume, people can actually hear your Justin Beiber/One Direction beats from the outside…\

Nonetheless, pretty solid headphones and not bad for the price. JB Hifi is still selling them for $399.

Yes well I guess I mean who would pay this much for Beats when there are better alternatives around.

    • I don't think a professional would be buying these headphones.

    • if you don't know much about headphones then don't make such a stupid claim.

  • I have purchased several of these $77 Noontec ZORO headphones (in red, white, and black) for family, and friends.

    http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/zoro-red-hi-fi-stereo-headphon…

They get very good reviews on Amazon and other sites, where many say they are better than the Beats.

There are several other Australian online sellers -
    http://en.noontec.com/En/service/buy.html

I add a ControlTalk type cable for those who want to use them with an iPhone/iPod (such as my son).

Eg. - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230874102950 - but can be found for much less at meritline.com etc.

I noticed One Direction flash drives at Officeworks, kids.

    Still in stock … hurry!

    • +12

one direction? straight into the rubbish bin?

      • Nothing a small amount of spray paint can't fix.

    • They must be faster or something!

    • +11

One direction? So they're read only?

    • New Direction

The fake beats headphones for $40 on ebay I think are better value for money.
Look just as cool and sound almost the same for 1/10th the price

    • or fake beats from seemingly reliable HK site for $28

      • +9

You don't know whether they'll turn out to be fake 'fake beats'. Better pay the $40 and be guaranteed of your genuinely fake beats.

        • these are authentic fake beats

I don't think I've ever bought a celebrity endorsed product. The concept has always turned me right off.

Not counting my Bay City Roller tartan jumpsuit of 1975.

    • +6

Damn, so I'm the only one who bought Norton 360 because of Lowndes?

      • +1

bought a kaspersky because Jackie Chan was showing off some moves, kung fu on viruses? SOLD

        • +1

McAfee Antivirus doesn't need to pay celebrities for endorsements, they've got action man John McAfee advertising their company for free.

    • +2

"I don't think I've ever bought a celebrity endorsed product."

      They're not all bad.

Paul Newman's Caesar Salad Dressing provides a far more enjoyable experience than Dr Dre Beats for a 100th of the price.

  • +10

    Another "Monster Cable" :)

    • Brilliant. Another example of perceived superiority.

  • +3

We need Beats By Dre Body Kits so we can make our good headphones look like we're actuaally part of the 'in' crowd without sacrificing sound quality.

Upvote for the thread, good times.

  • +16

the heck are $300+ beats doing on front page, this is an outrage!

  • Wow! There may be minimal distortion on max volume with these headphones, but there seems to be a lot of distortion on this thread :p

  • +4

You could buy HD650s or DT880s for this price. If you MUST have them as a fashion statement buy the cheap derivatives, I'd bet the cheap ones probably don't even sound worse. $50 headphones sound better than these toys.

  • +6

Seriously speaking though, you can buy two Audio Technica ATH-M50s for that price and still have money left over for KFC!

  • -2

Upvoted for the description, not the sh*tty headphones ;)

Troll thread of 2013. Well played OP, well played.

  • -2

i don't get why people pay so much for headphones like these, unless you know music (in music industry, play, etc)
most i paid for headphones was $40 for a pair (2 years old and still going), tried a couple of my mates headphones some are slightly better some are the same but are definitely not worth the extra money
this is ozbargain and i'm happy with my $3 tdk earphones (with one year warranty, dse usually has them on sale at 40% off)when im out and about and my good enough headphones at home

    • +1

If you work in an office and sit down for 7.5 hour a day, that extra difference in sound is really worth it. I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but I bought as pair of triple if 10s for $199 when Logitech ship were running a deal on them. I would have listened to them for in excess of 400 hours with amazing quality, and because there is no noise leakage, my co workers are at peace too.

  • +6

I now like them because everyone hates them #hipster

  • +6

my SWAG level will increase to over 9000 with these babies.

  • +5

well everyone else is posting up on this "deal"… so thought i'd put up a msg about absolutely nothing… its quite nice weather here in Sydney although a bit too windy i reckon…

just a friendly comment passing by.

    Hi everyone =D

Beats are made by Monster who make Harvey Norman's $249 1m long HDMI cables so you know they must be good.

Those of you who think that $327 sounds expensive should consider the fact that they're equipped with a one metre long Monster Cable so you're only actually paying a mere $78 for the headphones!

I can't wait to Flexirent these babies!

    • Damn, I don't know they use HDMI cable on these headphones! lol

  • +5

    Here's my two cent = $0.02

  • +2

description made me lol, for that you deserve a + or even a ++ and another bonus + for stating HN, which is like rubbing salt to my wounds

  • +4

Round and round we go about these headsets.
Not knocking anyone. But that price and up I'll go straight to the big boys: Grado, Sennheiser, Shure, Audio Technica, AKG, Denon, Bowers and Wilkins.

    • Beyers!

    • +6

Glad you didn't mention Bose :)

      • I know their stuff is very average, but their active noise cancelling headphones are very good! Beats the audio-technica active noise-cancelling ones hands down.

        • Try ATH-M50s (they're not comfortable for walking around because of their lack of headband cushioning and they're HUGE + slightly heavy) and you won't even need active noise cancelling :P

  • +2

Guys, a well educated 'Doctor' named Dre designed them so they must be very good. He must have like a double PhD in sheep herding and ghetto marketing.

nah jk, Beyerdynamic DT770/DT990 crap all over this.

As for the comment regarding diamonds, they may not hold their value, but the value to me is sentimental … every time i think about how many people died for my african blood diamond, i shed tears of joy …

on a more serious note, fashion is fashion, i've spent this much on a pair of jeans that are out of fashion the following year to eventually fade and be given away …

I wrote a hippity hoppity song inspired by this thread:

+1 just for the description!! So much swag when you have these on and leaking your Bieber/OneDirection…..ROFL….I will keep trolling with my HD25's and M50's

Is there a mod kid to transform Beats headphones to look like Sennheisers? Perhaps a sticker set? Coz mine came free with my Ultrabook, but I don't dare wear them in public.

    • +3

sell them on eBay/gumtree and you'd have enough money for 2 sennheisers

  • +1

Is Dr. Dre a real doctor?

    • +1

No. But he is a very good producer, I'll give him that.

    • +1

rapper by day, street pharmacist by night…. so yes he is a doctor lol

    • As real as lady gaga as a lady.

  • +2

I own a pair (got a free pair when I bought my HTC One S). They fell from my bed (not far) to a tile floor and broke (one of the headphones came off) within a week. I taped it back. Later, one side of the headphones stopped working alltogether.

The quality is also not very good, and exceedingly poor for the price. The populairity of these headphones is really just staggering considering what they provide.

    • +1

Solos not Studios come with HTC phones. More ignorant rubbish from OzBargainers.

  • $328 at Officeworks Online

  • -5

If you're into bit of flash and still want good sound, just get a pair of Sennheiser Adidas HD25-s for $200ish at Dick Smith online.

    • +1

You don't neg deals for that reason, this is a good price for Dr Dre beats, they are usually like $500 aren't they? I also despise of beats and think Sennheiser pwn them but this is cheap for beats studios.

      • I honestly don't know if this is a good deal for beats, since they have several different models which retail at various prices.

This is just a hilarious deal that should be upvoted so everyone can read its comments!

      • +2

Same model sells for similar price at Officeworks and has had a few posts well under $300 on OZbargain…

  • -2

This deal should be a good gift of the 2013!!

  • If you want similar sound, ath-m50 can be had for about $150 bucks less. Specs are similar, works un-amped. Looks better infact with much better build quality. Fitting slightly different. ATH-AD700 and K701 are also worth a mention.

If you want to spend in that range, the hd650 was featured here in the same ball park price range. These cans go way beyond anything with "Dr" Dre's name on it. Not in the same league, not even league-adjacent.

If people are saying they are buying for a friend and it is a specific request, do them a favor and buy them an education. Not sure on the price, but it will be worth it.

  • -1

For me, if they sell the headphones at JB, Myer, DJ or HN etc….they are crap. You will not find brand like Bang&Olufsen there.

    • +3

So Pioneer, Sennheiser and Bowers & Wilkins are crap are they?

You know a desperate attempt to be "different" than everyone else, doesn't make you better than everyone else?

    • you don't judge a brand based on where they are sold… you judge it one its qualities and merit

    • The "JB, Myer, DJ or HN" will stock whatever they think has a market for.
Bang&Olufsen is a bit of a hit and miss.
Their $100+ stereo earbuds aren't worth that much money, but their speakers on the ASUS N and UX series are…

    • You sir, have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Crap is relative. If beats were sold at $50 bucks, they are good in my books. At B&O's price range, i can do so much better. I sold all my B&O speakers after i clued up as a stereophile. Got myself an upgrade and lots of spare change.

  • Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Monster and Not a dr dre split up, thats why the Monster Beats is on sale……..

    • Beats were bought buy HTC I think.

      • HTC has always had a share in them.

Monster never owned them. Monster just had the contract for producing them.

  • I think we have a consensus that these headphones are probably not the wisest option in their market but if you do have to grab a pair for brainwashed teen you should be able to grab them at this price from any competitor. Beats studio have a floor cost of about $250.

  • After much listening to beats, soul, bose and klipsch , I reckon the klipsch mode m40 is the best sounding, and comfy of all. AccessroyJack sells for $333 which i think is quite reasonable. Here's the link:
    http://www.accessoryjack.com/klipsch-mode-m40-noise-cancelin…

  • If you really want beats that's not a bad price.

However, for those in Sydney… listen to the beats first and then go to the Sennheiser and then the Audio Technica listening stations at Centrepoint… you will end up with a good set of ATs for that price.

    • There's a Sennheiser listening statioon at centrepoint..?

      • You can sample senneheiser and beats up at the jb hifi in centrepoint

        • +1

JBHifi's range of Sennheiser products… is appalling.

  • '#yolo', but really, no thanks.
