  • what's the consensus on running Win 8 on this?

    • You'd be fine.

    • +3

No point if it doesn't have a touchscreen.

      • +1

I have the same laptop, running W8. Runs like a dream, and the boot times are significantly shorter.

But…. the Lenovo drivers don't seem to be out yet, so you will not get the Thinkpad toolbox / Lenovo auto update utility, and no battery management software either.
        However there is hotkey integration.

        • All I'm hearing is no bloatware. I think most people just want a laptop they can do a clean install of win7/8 on. I hate seeing bloatware knowing I've spent likely 2 days bargaining to get the best hardware only to have it slowed down.

        • +2

Lenovo does not force you to install 3rd party bloatware on their Thinkpad series of laptops — most of their bloatware are Lenovo utilities that do actually serve a purpose.

    • -6

      Win 8, lol.

      http://www.kitguru.net/software/operating-systems/benjamin/w…

Nice deal, all OzB'ed out though, no $$$ left. :(

edit: negged by Win 8 fanbois, I see…

      • +4

It's really a shame considering it's a superior OS to Windows 7 in various ways.

The only thing people see is Metro and the lack of a Start menu, which both suck but can easily be remedied. (Shouldn't have to though.)

Install Start8 and uninstall all the Metro apps and you've got a Windows 7 on steroids.

        • +1

Yeah with Metro gone, Windows 8 is pretty much identical to Windows 7 in terms of user experience.

On top of that, you get Windows RT app support, cloud prefs sync, quicker file search etc. which are all great features.

        • That link said win 8 is less popular then vista going by december sales, but the win 8 sales count stopped on the 22nd december! Does not count all the pre/post christmas sales!

  • +3

    Wow, i5 and 3G in 13" form… for $410!

  • +1

If I needed a laptop, I would so hit this.

  • +2

Can you price match this one? http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Lenovo-ThinkPad-E320-1298…

Is this website right - http://www.shopo.com.au/lenovo-thinkpad-e320-12983bm-core-i5… Was $469 last week? But now $529 with Cash back?

    • nice find

    • can't we buy from topbuy if it's cheaper? they say any vendor as long as the price is not post-coupon and a tax invoice is supplied

it's only 8.95 difference after accounting for shipping

can anyone find any cheaper lenovos elsewhere?

    • +1

OP is powerbuy rep, not onlinecomputer rep so i doubt they could answer ur question. Contact onlinecomputer for price match.

yeh if u want, jus apply for cashback thru powerbuy then buy from topbuy. As long as AU retailer (ie. ABN + tax invoice), will be ok.

  • Can you upgrade the RAM on this yourself? In other words, is there an additional RAM slot?

    • There are a total of 2.

    • if it uses 4GB x 1, you can just add additional 4GB to get 8GB. but if it uses 2GB x 2, you can't use existing RAM.

  • -3

Cash-back is capped at 5 units. - insufficient quantity?

    • +1

      per person

    • +1

Pretty sure that means 5 units per person

      • -3

OP changed it before you guys could reply.

  • Umm has anyone done this before with this site? How do you know it's legit and you get your money?

    • they've posted a few deals and i think most people have had no problems getting the cashback

    • You get your money, quite quickly too.

    • I have dealt with Powerbuy.com.au twice last year. Quite prompt and straight forward service.

  • this doesn't have a DVD drive does it?

  • how good is this laptop spec wise it seems decent. is it fast at booting up, how much is shipping for sydney 2194. how long does the cash back take.

  • nice price for i5 with 3G modem.
$15 delivery to 3168. still get around $100 cashback tho.
too bad I already have L420 with the same i5

  • Tempting

  • +2

All good with PowerBuy. I got my $ back within a week on a previous deal.

  • Great deal!

  • +3

This might be suitable for someone wanting i5 with 15" screen, but no 3G modem.
    http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

    • Im not able to find the E530 cheaper anywhere else…can anyone else confirm?

    • Call the shop. Despite it shows in stock, they don't have that in stock. The explanation is that the webpage gets delayed on updating the stocking level. They only have the i7 version in stock which is at $799.

  • Can I claim for TRS (tourist refund scheme) after claiming the cash back?

    • +1

Yes, you need a tax invoice from the seller and purchase it within 30 days before departure given price is more than $300 GST inclusive.

    • +1

They will give you GST back on original purchase price (before cashback).

    • Thanks!

  • As mentioned in previous deals be aware this is a good laptop but has a shocking track pad.

  • Good find.

    • +1

Actually, it is from a REP!

    • Used??? Yeh right.

      • No 3G?

    • +1

      2nd gen vs brand new 3rd gen…:D

      • +1

the one on this deal is second gen as well

  • funny I put mine on ebay and this comes on ozb 2 secs later very annoying lol

    • +3

Your one has a red lid though so that easily doubles the value.

      • zing'ed lol

    • +2

Just take it down and list it again later when there isn't a deal on.

  • $25 delivery to WA, plus 1.5% for credit card/paypal

    • 8.59$ in NSW sydney area

      • bank deposit saves ~$7

      • Pick it up?

    • I wouldn't bother unless you lived in Sydney, I'd just go to the store and pick it up. :P

      • fuel would probably cost you more than $8 if you live +10min away from city

        • Not if you have a scooter

  • Can you please include the Screen res (I'm expecting the standard 1366x768)

    • I dont think its 1366x768 cox its 13.3 inches for E320

      I was looking for E430 or E530

  • I5 is good. However 2.9 GHz is turbo, about 2.3 GHz normally so CPU a bit out of date. An extra $150 could get you a newer model.

    • The performance difference between 2nd and 3rd gen Core i5 is not discernible in general use anyway.

I would rather put that $150 into getting an MSATA SSD drive and upgrading it. Core i5 + 120GB SSD + 320 HDD + 3g WAN = Ultimate student and business notebook.

      • If not mistaken, the 3g module is using the msata slot and thus you can't put in a msata ssd.

    • The difference between bottom end Ivy and Sandy chips is pretty minor, less than 10%. This isn't meant to be a beast, upgrading to an SSD would make a bigger difference for most

  • Slightly cheaper at TopBuy (factoring in shipping), Someone confirm for me that it is the exact same laptop?

    http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Lenovo-ThinkPad-E320-1298…

AND Cheaper still if you pay by direct deposit:

    http://www2.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Lenovo-ThinkPad-E320-129…

    $524.48 delivered then $120 cashback = $404.80

    • topbuy deal already posted above

  • My parents are looking for a new laptop. This may be perfect for them.

    • +3

      cool story bro.

jokes aside it's a great business laptop or student laptop too. if you primarily use it at home you might want the bigger version linked above, as weight and 3G won't matter

    • +12

I think your expectations for a $400 laptop may be a little out of touch with reality

      • +19

        Don't bother, Merlict. He's a blithering idiot.

Please refer to this comment where he complained about a $169 computer not having SATA3, USB3 or an SSD:
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89695#comment-1184952

And this comment where he gave us all some insightful information by telling us how his 24" monitor was much better than the 15.6" screen on a laptop:
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89420#comment-1179732

And this comment where he claimed that a Star Trek bluray set was a rip off because it was cheaper to pirate it (I'm sure he did not have the intelligence to intend that pun either):

        • Thanks Johno that was good for a laugh.

I once knew of someone who, when asked by a friend of mine to build them a PC for "Word, Outlook and Facebook", built a PC i7 with 8GB of RAM, two Velociraptors and an ATi 6970X2 graphics card.

          Was that you ethereal88?

  • Anybody tried to call onlinecomputer to price match it?

  • Great machine for $409.

  • As someone asked previously, does this have a DVD writer.

    • No , sold mine a while back and bought a Toshiba r830. Better machine if you have the cash, with a DVD is significantly lighter than the e320

  • +2

For those who lives in Sydney, somehow it is cheaper to buy in store (OnlineComputer is near Capital theater in China Town). I went in this afternoon and bought one for %509 (with 2% credit card surcharge included. If you are paying cash, $499 only). No need to bargain, it is marked on the notebook for $499. So with $120 cash back, you only paying $379.
If you just need another reason to buy this model, it comes with built-in 3G and also personally, I really like Thinkpad's keyboard, it is so good to use it.

    • Are there any left? If so going to cancel my existing order for this.

      Also, they provide invoices?

      • don't know how many stocks left, didn't ask. Invoices was provided.

  • I5-2450M is third generation cpu? I do not think so.

    • launch q1 2011 so this is almost 2 years old stock

  • Just ordered from TopBuy an hour ago. But now their rep notifies that they do not provide the invoice with the product.

Anyone ordered from TopBuy who can testify whether I can get the cashback from my purchase?

    • +3

if they are an australian business it's their legal obligation to issue a tax invoice with the purchase

  • I got this laptop late last year, absolutely great for travelling. Very quick too!

edit: I paid just over $500 and got GST back when I left the country for my holiday

  • +1
