Can connect it behind Starlink modem via Starlink Ethernet Adaptor (purchased separately)

Only applicable for Generation 2 Starlink Kits. Can be used on Generation 3 and Starlink Mini without the need of an adaptor.

  • have the ax3000 v1 model but can only hit 750Mb/s down within the router UI whereas if i test it with my PC via speedtest i can hit 950Mb/s… maybe UI bug? i would assume if you test direct from the router you can hit max/near max speeds (i have 1Gb/s plan) considering you're not going through another device…

    • some of those speedtest sites are pretty inaccurate

but can only hit 750Mb/s down

      Sending my condolences.

  • As Wi-Fi 7 is cheaper now… just wondering BE3600 or AX5000+?

    • +1

Which WiFi 7 BE3600 router are you talking about? The AX86u Pro is still a very strong router and will beat most cheap WiFi 7 routers.

      • the one from TP Link TP-Link Archer BE3600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router

Really at the point where these amazon deals need to be tagged as targeted considering the amount of these deals that amazon wont ship outside of metro

    • Wait, wont ship? Or just charge for shipping?

Im not metro, and mine just charges me.

      • Wont ship, not even an option to pay shipping

        • There no option to buy or ship to me either. This sucks. Would have been a good stop gap router for me as I've been trying to replace my RT-AC68U for a while now. Not sure if this is a crappy/buggy model, though?

I bought this last year. Does to job. Wifi isn’t much better than the old Telstra gen 2 I had, UI is pretty good. No issues with it since turning it on

  • This or AX6000 Archer AX80 for $189?

    • +1

One router AX80, multiple Asus - find AiMesh to be one of the best off the shelf.

  • Pay a bit more and get flint 2 for $182

    • A little more info please. Why you think its better? specs-wise or use-based?

      • +1

Both, fully OpenWRT compatible (though, so is the ASUS), butthe processor ram and eMMC is notably better if you want to run apps on it.
Also the heatsinking in the flint is to die for.

Got this one for $165 a month ago (also through Amazon). If only I'd waited!!!

    • Better pick up a 2nd one and make a mesh :)

  • Good router for wireless VR / game streaming?

It is a normal wifi router, no RGB lights. How can they call it "gaming"?

    • In the UI, you can click a button on specific devices as "Gaming"

      … lol

  • Hi all
I have an Optus nbn modem but thinking of switching providers.
If I want to retain the nbn phone line, I noticed this router/modem does not have a dedicated phone port.
Will it work if I buy an adapter of some sort and plug it into one of the LAN ports?
    thanks

If you mean a LAN port on your current modem, it should work if you plug it into the WAN port on a modem like the one in the deal. I have the (older?) AX3000 and when I first got it I was with Aussie on FTTN with a Netcomm modem router they provided. No phone port on the AX3000 but connected it to the Netcomm from one of its LAN ports and it worked without doing anything extra on either router. Had this setup for three years without issue.

Main reason I did this was because the Netcomm had terrible range and overheated in summer. Disabling its wifi and bridging the AX3000 to handle that solved both problems.

You can try what the other commenter suggested and simply plug the Optus modem into this router. But if you are also switching VoIP provider, then this is unlikely to work.
If it doesn't work, yes you can just buy a VoIP adapter, which plugs into any router via LAN.
Something like this, but you'll need to configure your VoIP/SIP account settings. There may be cheaper ones but note there are also many knockoffs/fakes.

Check that the provider you switch to can give you the VoIP settings. Because some like Optus won't and make it a lot more difficult to use your own hardware, see https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3n2rr0v3

      • Thank you both! both scenarios makes sense and provides greater clarity.
I am thinking of switching to a new NBN/VoIP provider so the VoIP adapter sounds like the solution.
Is it possible to use the old Optus NBN modem for phone port purposes only? ie. disable the Wi-Fi and LAN function on the Optus NBN modem, plug a cable from the ASUS router LAN port into the Optus WAN port?

        • Might work, but you will have to update the VoIP settings in the Optus modem to your new provider and I'm not sure if that is possible given how locked down Optus make it. The linked thread should help but might be more trouble than it's worth.

Surprised this deal is not more popular. Looks like a decent router.
