Works well with stremio đź‘Ť but not the best for gaming though. Seems to be a bit more input delay/Bluetooth lag than with other devices…
Yeah I have one purely for taking away on holidays with me. Loaded up with Stremio and SmartTube. It's great.

It's a solid streamer, better than my CCwGTV4K and Fire TV 4K Max.

How do you get this silent update?
I just bought one, have set it up and I can’t choose 4K in the Settings menu in Kayo. I have the appropriate plan active so it’s not that. There aren’t any further updates available to the app or the Google Tv Streamer.
@Pecan: Huh, that's odd, when I found mine suddenly could do 4k it's in the same menu that you're looking at, in Settings in the Kayo App.
Last time I checked (and why I said it couldn't do 4k to everyone) I couldn't choose anything above 4k myself in that menu, if you've just bought it maybe check for a system software update. It might be that Google put out an update that rectifies this.

That is incorrect. It 100% does 4K Kayo.
Again incorrect - I've used the diagnostics and can see its viewport and stream rates etc are 4k.
Please consider whether your knowledge is appropriate as there is whole thread on Google 4k Streamer and Kayo streaming on Whirlpool which gives correct information

@oodLes: It has always had 4k as an option on mine.
There was a system update that I installed today though (ccwgtv 4k).
Definitely does 4K on Kayo! I have 2 and picking up a 3rd later today.
There was issue when it was first released but that was resolved within a month of release (give or take).
4K F1 and NRL is amazing on this device. I upgraded from Google Chromecast with Google TV 4K and speed difference is noticeable. The double RAM (4GB now) and quadruple storage (now 32GB) makes the Streamer so good.
So is it actually better than the Chromecast 4K? I just bought a secondhand one two days ago for $75.
Also, I have a $75 Harvey Norman voucher.
If this one's better, I might just sell my Chromecast 4K. They sell like hotcakes on Facebook Marketplace.
It is better… Slightly… In every way. I'd definitely resell the CCwGTV4K and replace it with the Streamer… Unless you need the portability of the CC.
Doesn't seem worth it if only slightly better. I'm also surprised you can get $75 for a used Chromecast. I didn't pay much more for mine new.
I didn't try to bargain because I thought I shouldn't and the average offered price on FB marketplace is around 90. First time bought something from there
I sold my Chromecast HD for $60 earlier this year, I was swamped with messages, probably around twenty in the first hour.
@utsc: I sold my HD, and moved the 4K to the bedroom, and bought this new product for the main TV room.
These mini dongles are for portability as a priority when going away and using on hotel/airbnb tv. This new box completely prevents that as it needs separate hdmi cable as well as being a bigger blob.

Hadn't realized they had actually launched this tbh. It would want to be a lot more powerful for the extra size….. No more plugging straight into HDMI and dangling behind the TV I guess?
It's not that much more powerful on the CPU front but it does double the RAM which makes for a smoother experience.
Theyve finally upgraded to the industry standard and went with a Mediatek tv chipset
Definitely supports Kayo 4k? I've been burnt twice before when Kayo said my 2024 Hisense TV doesn't support 4k, and then a 4k firestick didn't support Kayo 4k

The set up was a pain, needing to choose the brand of the tv for the remote to work properly. Couldn't find my tv from the list, ended up trial and error one by one, so annoying

Tv has HDMI cec so it can already be turned on and off via my old 2017 Chromecast ultra no issue. When casting, also no issues controlling volume levels using the phone

When you got to the "Control volume and power with Google TV Streamer's remote" screen during the initial setup it gave you 2 options.
- Set up remote
- Not now

On the WiFi gen, anyone notice that since WiFi 5 there is not much practical gain. Highest bandwidth requirement these days is 4K streaming and is around 25-40 Mbps.
The only benefit is 6e cones with 6ghz band for congestion. But it also just means one more frequency of radiation in every home

Save in on marketplace 'Nvidia shield', should pop up when new ones are listed. I just snagged a 2017 unit for $150 with the shield controller for my dad. Sold the controller for $40. Cost the old fella $110. Slaps 30GB 4K rips via Stremio no problems via wifi. Just pair the shield with an xbox controller or find one selling with the new nvidia remote.
And 10yo technology, new model is well overdue (and as you say it's expensive, like 3x the cost).

OS aside, Apple TV 4K is insane value for the hardware you get. I wished Google had gone a similar route and shoved a Tensor into a TV box.
I bought this, installed on stream, stremio, HDObox, YouTube premium, Free pay per view UFC the list goes on, I have unlimited free access to any show and movie ad free, apple tv cannot do ANY of that, so no, it's not superior

Probably not allowed to on here but there are plenty of tutorials on sites like Reddit.
Can mention YouTube alternatives/mods though, so I'd recommend SmartTube if you want something fully open source, or TizenTube Cobalt if you want a modification of the original YouTube Android TV UI.
