It's exactly the same as the original YouTube app, but with no ads, plus the same add-ons as smart tube (sponsorblock etc). I also found a way to make it show up with the original youtube icon : https://atvlauncher.trekgonewild.de/index.php

Smart tube Is a great up, but the old style UI always been massively off putting for me.

          • @liongalahad: Hmm does TizenTube let you login to your account, select specific video codecs/bitrates and cast from the phone (not a big deal) like SmartTube too?

            • +1

@CVonC: You can login to your account yes. The experience is exactly the same as the original app plus sponsorblock and few other perks . You can select video quality but not codecs (same as original youtube app). I'm not sure about casting but I don't think I have ever cast from my phone to my TV through YouTube, so that's not something I'd really care of … Also I don't have the original YouTube app on my phone, I have YouTube ReVanced which doesn't allow casting.
I suggest you to give it a try…

              • @liongalahad: I just might. Although I don't really mind SmartTube's UI anyway. But thanks for the descriptions.
And my YouTube ReVanced does work with casting to SmartTube btw.

  • Anyone got steam link working on these? I tried On a Google Chromecast 4K and it doesn't work the screen just goes crazy

  • Maybe it's because I just installed it but this seems slower than CCwGTV

    • That's very odd. It's supposed to be a lot snappier with newer CPU and double RAM…

  • +1

Not a great option if you want to use the Foxtel app. I updated the firmware today (android 14) and the Foxtel app no longer works. A quick google tells me only supported up to Android 12.

I have managed to sideload an apk that works on my Firesticks though ;)

  • Great price if you don't already own a Shield. If you do, this is a downgrade.

  • +1

Oh no i just ordered from amazon for $130. Can i cancel or get price matched?

    • Cancel and reorder, they've already matched the price.

      • Just figured that out. There's a $7 return fee but still work out in front. Just annoying as the delivery a bit delayed on this item. Not super urgent for me though

        • You can try the different reason options to avoid the $7 I believe

        • +3

Honesty isn't always the best policy.

    • I always check if the product that I plan to purchase is available at OW.
OW is my first go to place as they provide superior customer service, returns and price match compared and we are also supporting a local business. Only exception is Costco but they don't price match.

My 9 year old Mi Box is still working! Any reason to spend $$ on this?

    • Yes. Life is short.

    • I've still got that old girl, usually take her with me when I'm travelling because it has the super handy USB port which I can plug movies and other content into. If I recall, it stopped receiving OS updates quite a few years ago, and I found it much, much less snappy than this new device (verging on clunky) and the UI a bit dated. Couple of apps wouldn't work or run too well on it either, from memory. So if you can live without a USB port, this is a good upgrade.

      • Thanks for the reply.
        Never used the USB port.
Correct, haven't received an update for a while but it's not laggy, albeit it has problem when playing prime video notifying me that the HDMI cable is not compatible..but I think that's a Prime Video problem.
Are there any other advantages of getting the Google Streamer?

    • I have one gathering dust. Does it play kayo still?

      • Yes, kayo works fine.

        • +1

Just dug it out and fired it up and you're right. Maybe I didn't need this after all

  • Google store will likely price match this, good to use up Google store first if you have

    • how do you get google store to price match?

  • Just ordered.
Currently using an old original Chromecast with a 2016 TV, that doesn't have any option to add apps or other services,
Not sure exactly what I bought, but hope I can get away from using phone to cast Amazon TV, Paramount+, Stan/Binge

    • +1

Yep that's exactly what this does. It runs Android so you just plug in power, connect HDMI to TV, connect it to your network (can use wired or wireless), install those same apps on it and you're good to go. The home screen is basically a portal to your services.

      • In in the same boat. However would a Fire stick do the same thing? I'm really after stremio app however prefer just to plug the usb device in the back of the tv instead if running wires everywhere like worth google.

  • +1

So this will be a lot more snappy than TV's UI?

With good internet speed, can it switch between on demand TV channels quickly?

  • Anyone know when this sale price ends?

  • Good device, but I think the design of the remote is awful. In particular the rounded bottom. Assuming holding in right hand, it's hard to hold the remote in place when trying to press the right nav button.

  • Is this good for installing all those internet streaming apps like streamio etc?

  • +1

Thanks, installed Stremio and the high seas add-ons. Love this new 4k streaming experience. Also great that it can control my sound bar too. 10/10.

    • Are you using any VPN / Debrid ?

      • +1

Yep, trying out a debrid for one month to see how it goes. Awesome experience so far.

        • which one are you using?

          • +1

@noz: RD works well for me over the last couple of years if you're after a recommendation

  • +2

Price matched @ TGG, stacked with $30 voucher (had to add a $15 5m extension lead), $20 new customer instore voucher and paid with ultimate gift card.

    • what's new customer voucher? is it store cash from Gold Service Extra?

      • I had to create another account because my original account was locked for some reason and I couldn't be bothered to contact them to fix it. Bought a roborock last month and they sent me a $20 instore voucher with no min spend and 90 daysl expiry.

  • Stremio was blocked in the app store on the chromecast I bought recently. Is it not the case for this?

I couldn't find any workaround and had to sideload on a firestick instead.

    • +1

That's normal (and the only option) for apps not in the appstore. I think it was available when I installed but where there's a will there's a way. Btw you can sideload on google tv as well.

Best off setting up stremio etc on a PC first then it's mostly configured when you install the app.

      • Why are people in this thread saying that they just installed Stremio from the app store then?

When I tried on chromecast it gave some sort of "this app is unavailable in your country" error.

        • Not sure, what country Play Store are you using? Some people may be using other countries.

Does it come up on your PC or phone? It's definitely in the play store but not all apps are officially supported by all devices. Stremio by itself is a normal player, nothing dodgy about it.

Can't remember when I installed mine.

          • @G-Shock: Yeah I can install it on my Android phone. But the chromecast wouldn't allow it.

            I'm using Australian play store.

            • @Lurk Hartog: May have to sideload it then (and allow permissions etc). Pretty sure it was in the play store for ccwgtv 4k.

    • Try downloader by aftvnews in the amazon appstore

      • To clarify I had no issue sideloading on a firestick but could not get it on to the chromecast.

        • I just popped stremio on a google tv 4k dongle the other day. I also popped stremio on a Sony and TCL google tv from the google play store without any issues.

what gen chromecast are you using?

    • Sideload it on the Google TV. It's really easy ("Downloader" or "Send file to TV"). You have to enable developer options though in order to install sideloaded apps:
Settings-System-About-scroll all the way down to Android TV OS Build and tap several times until it says developer options enabled or something like that. Now you can freely sideload and install apps on your Google tv

  • Be warned that the Foxtel App does not work on it. That's all I bought it for and it now resides in a cupboard.

    • Try side loading it? Works on the old one.
Should get a refund instead of sitting in a cupboard.

      • Foxtel Go does not work on the Streamer. It's a known issue. No side-loading etc. will fix it. Foxtel just being lazy in developing an app to work with the latest Android system, yet Kayo works fine.

        • Does that mean the Foxtel app wouldn't work on any media player running the latest Android OS?

        • It works on ccwgtv.

  • Jbhifi airport west just price matched me, used the $10 perks to bring it down to $78. It'll be a good upgrade from my fire stick 4k max 1st gen

  • How does this compare to LG G5 webOS, particularly for Stremio?

    • +1

You can get stremio for webos quiet easily, but it doesn't feel like the full version… i have been using the andriod tv version of stremio for a few years and imo it is probs the best version

    • Stremio on LG OS has language issues. Never defaults to eng, always have it manually change. Super annoying.

  • When does this sale end?

    • looks like its ending today as per this post - wish I could price match in OW

      • Amazon

Just picked one up, and would not be happy spending anymore than this. The remote is ultra cheap, and the setup process was terrible, and it doesn’t even come with rechargeable batteries. Overall it’s slower than my Apple TV 4K, and dislike the UI. But I can put stremio on it so there’s that.

    • It's fine. As same as the last one I wouldn't pay over $70-80.

    • Stremio being worked on for iOS :)

      • Is it? That would be amazing

      • Huh?

        • I'm only basing comments on the ccwgtv, setup was dead easy, the remote is fine (and came with batteries). Sounds like you had a bad experience.

Works very well with stremio yes..

          • @G-Shock: Yea I got the wifi connection issue during setup process. Can't connect to my home wifi. After some searching, the fix is to factory reset, then if that doesn't work, factory reset and use ethernet/other wifi. Such a pain. Had to use hotspot to get the update, then after that it found my home wifi. Took quite a lot of fiddling to figure that out. Many reports suggested using different HDMI even. Was a massive pain though, and like you said a bad experience - I wouldn't give this to my parents for example. I also had to enter my google password using the on screen keyboard which was a massive pain. Again, it's fine for a cheap device at $80, but no chance I'd spend more than that

  • This or should wait for fire Stick 4k max? Noob here.

I am looking at installing Streamio, Tivimate and Smarttube.

    Any suggestions??

  • I have a 4K Max. Is this better? Any reason to upgrade?

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I had kept the page for this product open for months waiting for it to be on sale, so cheers!

  • Do someone has the screenshot of this price . I have to show to Google as the price have increased now and they want screenshot to price match.

    • +1

Are they going to retroactively price match?

      • Yes Google won’t allow to price match until the order ships and it was too late as the price increased today to $138 so they asked for the screenshot from yesterday.

        • What an odd process

    • +2

      @techberi Try this

      • +1

        Thanks a lot ! legend!

        • how do you price match on google store site
          and did it work?

          • @pinkybrain: You buy first and then request a price match via chat or a link on their website and once the order ships you get the refund back.

            • @techberi: would it still work if buy now since the deal is expired on those cheaper sites?

  • +1

Gah! Was gonna grab one from Officeworks but couldn't get out over the weekend and now missed it. Guess I'll wait for the fire tv stick to drop back down next week hopefully.

    • I went to 3 officeworks and they were sold out, went to 2 JBs and they were also sold out. Ended up going to HN and they had loads.

    • For next time, Officeworks will price match over the phone.

      • Yeah I considered doing that yesterday but had a bit much going on and figured I'd be sitting on hold.

        Live and learn I guess!

  • +2

So based on some earlier comments here about how popular the CCwGTV4K (and HD models) are on Facebook marketplace…. I bought a few of this Streamer model from HN even though I hate hate hate HN with a passion.

I advertised my old CCwGTV4K ones (5 of them!) on the facebook marketplace in the evening for $50 each, and woke up to over 80 messages by morning from people wanting them (!!!!!!!). Ended up selling them all.

I had no idea they'd updated the CCwGTV4K to Android 14, so a quick update and reset to factory defaults and they were good to go.

The Streamer is what the CCwGTV4K should have been - no lag in the menus! It feels much better to navigate, though Youtube/Plex etc pretty much work and feel the same.

  • Great upgrade for a 9 year old Sony TV.

Also pleasantly surprised that the streamer controls the TV power as well, so only need one remote.

    • Yep the ARC settings are handy, powers my tv and soundbar as well so don't need the other remotes often. The ccwgtv 4k has always struggled to select the tv input for whatever reason, but mostly use streaming apps.

  • Solid unit so far - got it controlling the power on my tv and the volume on my sonos beam. The input (star) button is a bit useless since i still need to use the tv remote to actually select/change which input im using.

    • You can't just press the input button to toggle through the list? I changed my buttons so YouTube opens TizenTube, Netflix short press opens Plex and long press opens Stremio, and the star button opens TiviMate.

      • Didnt realise you can change them to "short press" "long press" - will investigate. Unfortunately the way my input button works is one press brings up the menu, another press closes the menu (doesnt cycle through the inputs)

    • Yeah always useless that. Only good to change down inputs not the tv

  • Hmm does anyone know a workaround etc for Foxtel GO app for the CCwGTV 4k - since doing system update it's not supported

AF4013 – App launch has failed
    .
The current Foxtel GO Android app is not compatible with Android 15.
    .
While we’re working on an Android 15 release, you can join our Beta program to install our latest Foxtel GO app to continue watching your favourite shows.
    .
To join the Beta, follow this link on your Android device and follow the prompts

Usually I'd side load another version but not sure. Cheers!
