Personal Finance Tracker Spread Sheet $6 (Was $8) @ CompiledSanity Personal Finance

1490

Recent Tarrifs rises may be impacting your Temu purchases, but this spreadsheet can help you budget for that next Aldi Special Buy.

This formula driven and automated net worth and savings tool has been really popular on OzBargain and reddit, and hopefully you'll enjoy it too. The sheet is made to help track monthly finances and provides a bird's eye view of your financial position each month. For example, I was able to see that if I had invested in NVIDIA in 2019 I wouldn't really need to track my investments anymore.

Changes since the last deal – new graph compression features, XIRR performance changes, improved historical price lookups and many other community suggested improvements.

  • Great product that's cheaper than a caramel iced latte!

Been using it for years and it just works.

One of the major benefits of using the spreadsheet is that you own the data. You can download and keep backups, compared to paid monthly platforms which may get hacked / introduce new limitations / increase prices

    • +1

Completely agree. So many platforms have come and gone (Pocketbook, weMoney, Sharesight increasing prices). It's nice to have something static that I host and can't go up in price.

  • The best bargain is a free item that does the job of paid items as well or better.
Microsoft money is free, comprehensive, and can still be found if you look around.
I stopped using it for a bit when I got lazy, but went back to it and have continuous records for 15 years.
It proves to be handy regularly…. I've still got a record from 2017 where I lent JV $10 that he hasn't paid back! ahem

    • +1
    • Microsoft money as discontinued some time ago, but GnuCash may be a good free alternative.

      • Microsoft money was "discontinued" in 2010… as in microsoft stopped "supporting" it, but microsoft themselves continued to release a free version for some time, and clearly have no objection to other sites supplying downloads of microsoft money right up to the present time.

And while 2010 sounds a long time ago for a measure of software useability and sophistication…. I rate it as still a very contemporary and useful program with zero compatibility issues.

  • As others have noted, this is a great product, and a steal at the price. Many thanks to the dev.

  • I'm using an old free version of this. Can I migrate to this one?

    • +1

Very easy to do! There’s a migration tool in the full version that will migrate everything across for you and get you all setup. Takes just a couple of minutes and the tool will do it all for you.

  • I had previously bought this but failed to figure out how to automatically import multiple statements from say home loan, transaction account, credit card account etc. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks

  • +1

This is a great spreadsheet and have used it in the past, well worth it. Everyone has different requirements I wanted to incorporate expense tracking so I now prefer using is this NW Tracker I added some custom sheets and field to make it work better for me.

    • Sweet this is good too Thanks

    • Yes that one is way better for the average person IMO. This sheet will just confuse you.

Better to use the free trial to see first otherwise likely to give up.

  • Hi @CSPersonalFinance, May I ask if this tool can be used to generate financial year ETF tax report?

    • ETF Tab has an annual dividend field. Though for Australia - cost adjustment feature would be good too.

  • Purchased, spent 10 minutes inputting data then gave up. Ah well lol.

    • +1

      Give it another crack!
Sounds like you have alot to enter but even on the free version is very helfpul. And if you're like me, get a bit of excitement of tracking numbers 😊

  • Love this sheet as well and appreciate the updates. Been using it for 2 years - very happy customer! :)

I do hope the homepage explains the calculation in a dumbed-down level :)

    Good job!

  • Been using this for a couple of months and it's insanely good. Highly recommend it.

  • I went to pony up my $6 - splash out ignoring the free version !

then saw 'deliver to shipping address' - huh ? I thought this would be an online download

what if anything physical gets delivered to my letterbox on the street ?

    • I believe if you click that drop-down you can remove the delivery address if it’s pre-filled by PayPal. Definitely not required!

  • @CSPersonalFinance

Are their plugins that users have employed to automate retrieval of super/bank balances?
The sheet doing this directly I guess would be risky - but potentially some intermediary mechanism where the code to perform this executes locally on user's machine and pushes the result data to some object storage or equivalent location for the finances sheet then to auto import?

  • Does this work with offsets?

  • I purchased the premium version of the sheet but was not of much use to me as it does not factor in 2 incomes. It didn't provide me much value because my finances are intertwined with my spouse and there is no point of tracking and forecasting just based on my income.

    • +1

I just combine the incomes, accounts, super and enter as one.

      • So in the employment salary field, do you enter the combined salary for yourself and spouse?

        • Yes and also enter the average tax rate between the two of us.

Outside of this spreadsheet I have been tracking monthly spend = current balance - previous balance + monthly income.

    • It’s definitely possible to track as a couple, and I have this FAQ here that might interest.

How do I track with my partner/as a couple?

For couples, it's recommended to combine finances and incomes since expenses are typically incurred as a household. Net worth changes should be considered as a whole.

When setting the tax rate in the SheetOptions tab - use the CompiledSanity Partner Tax Calculator to work out an averaged tax rate. Your Salary will be the sum of your salaries.

      • Thank you mate I will explore this.

      • What about multiple income streams with different tax rates, 0%, 15% and 32?% ?
If I combine them how is the tax estimate calculated?
And shareholding portfolios with different tax rates.
Currently use a self developed Google auto sheet for combined shares, an overall Excel manual sheet for Cash Shares Super totals, and an online super transaction and tax manager.

        • It’s recommended to use a weighted tax average to give a tax estimate. Ultimately this needs to be tailored to your requirement - how accurate do you want things? Or do you want to just see everything in a central place?

  • Can this do balance forecasting based upon recurring deposits and withdrawals, and allow changes to be made to see future impact ?

  • I've used this for 56 months. So that's less than 10c per month.

It's not for everyone, but if it helps you get into the habit of keeping an eye on your finances it has a priceless ROI.

    • Who's if not for?

      • Anyone who just wants a turnkey solution that they connect their accounts to and set and forget.

This takes 5 minutes each month and discipline to do it long term.

I personally prefer this way so I see the numbers plus don't pay a monthly fee.

  • I remember buying it in the past. Would anyone know what the email subject looks like?

    • If you want the latest version resent to you you can use this link here. Hopefully easier!

      • Thanks, got the email; the invite was not found.
Will make a new purchase considering how good it is.

        • Feel free to PM me your email and I can do some digging for you. Might be under an old email so more than happy to help look.

          • @CSPersonalFinance: Thanks, bought it again. All good. Thanks for the offer, though.

            • @777: That’s really kind of you and thanks for your support. Let me know if I can help at all!

  • Is this what Musk and Bezos use?

  • Appreciate it, been using it for years and has actually helped me get my shit together

    Price is good.
Now Albo is buying votes, buying more cheap students with ballooning debts to vote for him..
Just little behind Biden we need more games to escape reality. All fibre optics for every gamer, slow internet for business.
We need more HN advertising on SBS because dumb people still shop there.
We need more lollies like new customers perks to think the economy can be repaired.
At the end we live from the savings off coupons, believe Shopback gives real cash?

  • Hi there Associate - when calculating the CGT can I choose which parcel of shares to use as the cost?

    • The CGT calculations is just an estimate, it’s based on FIFO and chooses parcels automatically for you.

  • Gnucash is open source and free: https://www.gnucash.org/

I've been using it for many years.

  • Yep I bought it, only use it for the stock tracker and I cry when i do an update and could have doubled my money if only I had bought the stock when I put it into the spreadsheet…No losers on it so far….. worth it just for that…. and THE WHAT IF just like lotto.

  • i ordered yesterday and yet haven't received anything about this :(

    • Really sorry to hear this, feel free to send me a PM and I’ll send your invite to you manually.

  • @OP this looks like a great tool but I am hopeless at understanding this stuff. Tried to follow instructions but I still got stuck. I'm only supposed to fill in the yellow tabs which is only super? How do I input the other info that would be important for tracking?

  • I bought this in Feb 23. Now I'm not a PC genius but Ive always been able to navigate anything from Microsoft, apple etc and have a Mac, iPad and PC.

I don't know why, I just struggled with this and gave up a month or two after buying it. It was only $6 so no big deal. Just put it down to it must be me and a sign I'm starting to lose skills.
Hoping to use it again and give it another go. I really struggled with it though

  • does this tool allow tracking for multiple entities, or do I have to purchase different licences for different entities?

    • +1

You would run a separate sheet to track each entity. You only need to purchase one license for this.

  • Hi
I can’t able to add this etf, has any one done this ?
    https://www.globalxetfs.com.au/funds/gold/?campaignid=221694…

  • I've been using this for a few years and it's awesome, definite bargain.

@CSPersonalFinance not sure what I did but as of a few months ago the total stocks value is showing 0 (Current portfolio value on the stocks tab, & also the stocks total on the net worth tab). The Total Growth & individual stock values still show. Any tips on the easiest way to fix it without having to re-enter all my historical data?

  • Nice sheet. I understand that I have to get API key from coinmarket cap for Crypto price data. Can't find where to enter the key.

Found it. it is in the options tab

  • So is this to help me budget for the future, or help me understand how I spend historically?

  • Hey just bought the tool and still setting it up.

Is there a way to make it compatible with Bard AI, as i tried uploading onto the Ai chat for some analysis but it cant process it or something like that.

  • Back to normal price of $8

  • I tried to buy it but it is now AUD $8, so I will wait for next sale.

  • @CSPersonalFinance I just tried to buy it, but it's coming up as AUD $8. Can you have a look at the offer. Thanks

  • Same, jumped on and was ready to purchase but not coming up as $6 like outlined
