Telstra Bigpond T-Bundle 200GB $80/Mth

660

Basically was very hesitant to post this as bigpond or telstra in general isn't considered a bargain however for people who are interested in fast internet speeds rather than unlimited bandwidth this is the way to go.

So basically this is T-bundle includes:

line rental.
internet 200GB
100MBit line (elite)
Family Call benefits (Free Local + Free calls to Telstra mobile)

If you look @ their website its usually 115$/mth

I recently connected my parents up with something similar it was 90$/mth had to go the to trouble of contacting a 3rd party out-sourcing centers for these deals as telstra reps cannot offer these bundles usually.

Was pulling 115Mbits on speedtest and 0ms with the connection.

Quite good if your into games and streaming; and 200GB is sufficient.
Otherwise stick to TPG unlimited if your into downloads.

Note: always check your benefits clearly as they have lots of varying offers like bolt-on packages and stuff.
For example I got an extra bolt-on deal with 20$ credit to any mobile every month from home phone.

Note2: Alot of people have been mentioning TSA deals, will like to note that's how I originally got my deal.
This is their official website.
http://www.tsagroup.com.au/contact.aspx
I went through Rod on 1800 634 055

Definitely go through them if you cannot get a good deal through Telstra.
My deal specifically was
90$/Month
Unlimited Local Calls
Unlimited calls to Telstra Mobiles
Unlimited calls to Telstra Mobiles on Same bill
Bolt-On package 20$ /mth to any mobile
Free installation and activation inclusive of free modem.
22 day cool off peroid

There have been other deals mentioned here.
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55820

$78 / mth however this was 27/10/2011
They definitely didn't budge when i tried for this one.
And from what i've been told its not unlimited local more like budget.

So while its the cheapest its ever been at 78$ there are a few downsides, depends on what your after really but its a landmark for you to bargain with.

    • Did you have to negotiate hard to get the upgrade and free local calls?

    • someone else above got it for 80, lolwutmikka

  • fook! wud sign up to this in a heart beat but just signed up with optus and locked in for 24months~

    anyone have any ideas!

    • +1

      lol yes wait 24 months;)

  • check TIO (telecommunication ombudsman), is there a statutory/other cooling off period?

i have optus cable, (but no copper wire connection), does that belong to optus exclusively?

any issues with telstra & torrenting?

like do they scope you out any more than tpg would or is that just my paranoia?

    cheers

  • How do you get so high speeds of 115Mbits on Speedtest.net?

I joined this exact plan this month and my speeds are the following:

    Ethernet Cable: 28ms/14.19Mbps(D/L)/0.84Mbps(U/L)
    WiFi Desktop: 31ms/10.96Mbps(D/L)/0.84Mbps(U/L)

    • I Just live in the right area?
I was on abysmal speeds on ADSL2 , about 2MBits.
I was on the Border of the exchange limit (5km)
So cable when I Was told it was available was a no brainer.

      • Doesn't make sense to get 115Mbits/second.

When we click on the Telstra info, we see that the maximum under the ADSL Elite is 20Mbps for ADSL or 30Mbps for Cable. You should also get a ping that is greater than 1 ms. Can you provide the link to your speedtest results? For comparison, here's mine:

        http://www.speedtest.net/result/2565743075.png

We can easily get this type of link by running Speedtest.net and then clicking Share this Result.

        From Telstra:
"BigPond Elite® Cable plans can provide download speeds of up to a maximum of 30Mbps when downloading from capable sites or across multiple sites. Some existing customers may need to purchase a new modem to achieve these speeds.

        Average speeds will be lower…"

    • You have terrible lag. Like the OP, I'm getting 0 ms lag, 78.88 Mbps download, 2.41 Mbps upload. Melbourne.

  • i'm looking to switch to telstra as the adsl speeds in my area are atrocious and i had telstra cable before which were pretty good

so if a rep is able to workout instructions to get 200gb with home phone usage and elite or higher speeds for ~$80, post it here and i will sign up instantly!

I've mentioned it above, but I'll say it again…

Call up 1800 330 139 and ask them to put you onto the family and friends offer for the T-Bundle Connector Everyday. $80/m with 200gb data, unl. local calls and calls to Telstra mobile phones

      • They ask for the Telstra employee referrer ID so they can put it in my order form. What should i do?

  • Good deal, Though sadly I can't get Telstra cable only Optus. I'm off contract but there are no real good deals with Optus at the moment.

  • I am paying 80 dollars a month in Brisbane for iiNet ADSL2, its the normal metro price

I get 200 gig of data a month
    Phone line rental (I probly make 2 calls a month , I use Mumble voip/line voip/skype voip/email/fb)
    Uploads is counted .
    ABC iView is free traffic
Every single AUSTRALIAN Steam Content Server is free traffic
    Free xbox live traffic
Free traffic for 3FL and Games.on.net gaming servers
Free traffic from the file library at http://www.games.on.net
Free traffic from all these radio steams - http://freezone.internode.on.net/radio/

    • so if i live in a metro location and use internode i can get the same deal without calls?

  • Is the family and friends the best deal with home phone?

Is there other companys (not telstra) with better deal?

  • Anyone managed to get a silent line included in the $80? i am very tempted to jump into this deal as i am paying $49.95 on ADSL 2 with iinet and line rental at $27.95 with primus.

  • I pay $78/month at the moment for Bigpond Ultimate Cable 200GB with phone line rental included.

    • Is that from the previous deal?
do you get any free calls?

      • No free calls. Local calls are 30c each. Yes, it's the old deal from January 2012.

        • Extra $2 and you get local free calls… might be a good deal

        • If you even use the landline which I hardly ever do. What about voice mail and call number display - are they free in this deal? They were thrown in for free in mine.

        • +1

not to sure but there seems to be two deals
the family and friends for $80 and just a normal offer same speed and seems like same specs for $80

          http://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/broadband-offer/?dd=…

          and

          http://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/familyandfriends/

        • what is the difference?

        • @MrZ

when you sign up for cable do they need to install cable by technician?

          how much cost?

        • Only if you don't already have a cable outlet. I had one already so I didn't need a tech.

        • Is that a Telstra cable outlet from previous owner/plan or can they use the cable from an Optus installation?

(Asking because I'm considering switching to Telstra cable to get rid of the horrid peak time congestion)

        • Neither. I had a contractor put it in.

        • MrZ

          How much it cost?
Where do they join the cable to the street?
          Can you post some photos..

I want to get cable but not sure if I got it already and if I don't telstra tech would cost $148.

          What is you max speed?
Is telstra cable cheaper than optus?

        • Do you have foxtel or Bigpond cable previously? It uses a coaxial plug and isn't through your normal phone line so if you haven't previously had it, it's not that likely you can DIY.

ps. I have Bigpond cable at parents' house on the 30Mbps option- and I get around 28-29 using LAN cable w/ a 15ms ping.

        • From what I can tell, there does appear to have an old foxtel line

          is that all I need?

        • Seems like there is a difference in the names of the cable. The first deal says it's BigPond Elite® Cable and the second deal says it's Ultimate Cable.

"BigPond Elite® Cable plans can provide download speeds of up to a maximum of 30Mbps…"
          vs.
"BigPond Ultimate Cable plans can provide download speeds of up to a maximum of 100 Mbps into the home…"

        • OP commented that he has Ultimate Cable for the 100 Mbps plan.

  • Can you get a cheaper plan while under contract or do you have to wait until end of contract?

This post would be a great read for those considering switching to Telstra. Telstra should always be the absolute LAST OPTION as a provider. Hopefully the NBN will end Telstra's stranglehold on regional Internet and we can be rid of them forever!

  • Are 13xx numbers treated as local calls?

    • I dont think any phone provider treat those as locals, they all charge like 30c a call for 1300

my folks have back to base home alarm and it calls a 1300 number and they get charged 30c a call via telstra even though got unlimited local calls on tesltra.

      • I am with TPG and they treat 13xx numbers as local calls for sure.

  • This boasts an impressive "downlink", although this really is but one key. The other clearly is "uplink", and also "committed" - all connected with international topology, in respect to total quality.

So for decoding this, I get this broadened picture.

Down link I see it a tie with optus retail i.e. 20-50 Mbit and sufficient to exceeding my need, each option easily capable of multiple streams HD*10 Mbit.

Up link shows age with HFC in general, but can't be more a pain than where you're stuck at copper speed [1.2]Optus. Supposedly from T-Con Ultimate, you gain a +75pc improvement.

Committed bandwidth (plan div by 324gb) OTOH, presents a compelling argument for the challenger with a typical 50pc more quota at equal price level.

In the analysis it might get down to uplink for webcam quality/cloud xfer transit, versus stay with full Mbit (& not smaller 0.67Mbps) per committed capacity.

Decision could be easier were there geographical speed/heat map like exist to monitor adsl levels.

  • Telstra called me and subscribed. Don't know why they took $48 for activation! I dont see $48 in anywhere here: http://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/familyandfriends/

    • I was "qualified" for the T-Bundle Connector Everyday (Telstra staff referral).I was told that I would need to pay also: $59 for phone connection + $48 cable activation + $9.95 P&H for the modem. Furthermore, if a Technician is needed, then I have to an extra $125 in relation to the phone line and $299 cable. That stopped me signing up on the spot and asked if they can call me back in a week!

    • It does mention a $48 activation fee right at the bottom underneath the '$480 saving' box

  • I use this - it's probably the best home internet I've ever used. 24mth contract is daunting but can you see yourself getting better connectivity in your home inside that period - NBN will only offer speeds like these.
Worst install experience I've ever seen or heard of - eventually rectified after a million calls. I was working with Telstra at the time too. In reality the pipe isn't perfect slow/fast etc, but it's the best I've used. Yes speed tests show >118Mbps but real use is dependent on the other end/'s connection when downloading things.
