  • Can anyone confirm that we are charged the same regardless if we use ipad or not to access the 3GB available bandwidth using one of these SIMs?

I seem to have a feeling that they get used up much more quickly than if I were to use Amaysim or other broadband service provider. Am I the only one?

    Thanks.

      • What I meant is they can actually charge you 2GB for 1 GB of real usage.

        C'mon guys !

        • perhaps try downloading a known amount and then see what appears on your account?

        • It is difficult to monitor usage as you have suggested as the telstra website is not real time. Unless I dont use it for a day except for downloading a known file-size file, I can never be quite sure. The telstra elite modem is unlike those from Vodafone say which has a usage counter on the screen itself.

Therefore, I am wondering if others in this forum have learned something different from my experience.

        • So what is the general consensus now?

Just forget about such deals now if one is not using ipad?

        • One would think there's gotta be some way to spoof your android device to look like an iPad to the Telco. Unless they're looking at the data usage itself then forget about it.

Still 15$ prepaids are useful for Google play
And unlocking phones at discounted prices.
And the 3gb Sims are only good for iPad or getting chat support to turn them into 30$ long life plans for credit use.

    • Well it's a prepaid card, so they can't charge you anything extra.

When I activated my 3GB IPad sim, I just said to telstra (through 24x7 chat) activate it as a 3GB IPad sim, and I used it on my IPhone and it worked perfectly.

  • can i use this for League of Legends?

    • why not?

      • how much credit will this have if i buy a card? for LoL

        • 30dollars real credit. That is around 2k+ rp on NA server. But I don't know about Oceania.

These often go on sale for $10 at Coles.

    • often? like once this year at only a few stores and twice each in the past two years?

      • +2

Confirmed it was $10 again at Coles until 10 days ago ($15 less $5 in points). No one seemed interested, so not posted as a separate deal. (You responded to my post.)

Also have been $10 a few times @AustraliaPost.

        • yes points redemptions excluded :)

      • I buy a few of these every couple of months. I have about 10 of them stocked up unused. They happen all the time, not once a year.

It's not always posted on OzB. Just because it isn't doesn't mean the special is not on.

        • true, but then please post when it is - i'm sure people would be interested to know :)

        • Yes, please post when $10 offer is on - I'm always on the look out here on Ozbargain for them - TIA

They have been in various retailers at $10. Also telstra sell sims online for $15 all the time I believe? Okay could be wrong about that one. I was reading that you can use the prepaid credit on playstore, can you do that on encore plan or you'd have to choose longlife? Its still a good deal to get apps at half price.

    • It doesn't matter what prepaid plan you choose, you can use the $30 Telstra Credit to purchase apps and games from the Google Playstore, but there are few apps and games that can't be purchased via Telstra credit.

      • Wrong, if you chose iPad the value is in data. Try using that on the playstore…..

        • Yer i know that, but im talking about Android not iPad.

        • there are ways to get them turned into mobile longlife plans with the 30$ credit intact.
          for android app purchasing goodness.

  • Dick Smith also has them for $15 until 15/7/13.

    • thanks - updated deal :)

    • Not the iPad starter sim though. See my comment further below.

Dick Smith will also deliver it by star track express courier for that $15 (bought 2 a week ago, and that's how it came). Generally much more convenient than going to a physical store and getting it, unless you were going to that store anyway.

    • Don't they have a limit of 1 online?

      • +1

not online but perhaps in-store as per catalogue :)

    • Waiting till tomorrow or the day after and having it delivered at their convenience and needing to be home waiting for it is always more convenient than just heading there and getting it in 10 minutes.

  • I have some orange packs (full size sim) I need to get rid of… $10 each if anyone wants them, PM me.

  • How to you activate the iPad sim if you plan on using it in an iPhone?

  • Description needs to be clarified. Went to Dick Smith's today and the Telstra pre-paid iPad sim is NOT $15. Only the non-iPad sims are half price. They would not budge on this. I tried :)
