  • GOT ONE FROM DSE BRIGHTON VIC, VERY GOOD PHONE!

  • Phone Noob question: how easy/difficult is it to transform a normal-sized SIM card (I'm still using my VirginMobile one from 2003 =O !) into a micro-SIM?

    • +2

easy, grab template from net, sellotape sim to it or draw lines on sim, scissor away.

      • Thanks, battler.

        • +2

just dont scissor through any gold bits ;)

        • hoho, will do!

    • +1

I just went to my carrier's store, ask them for a micro sim and transfer my number at the same time. Or think you can grab $2.00 sim of your carrier with micro cut already from any store, then call them to port your number.

      • I had a feeling THIS could be done! Thanks for confirming it. Altho'…point is moot* as deal is done. Will wait for the next deal to pounce.

*can never understand if moot is used correctly

  • +1

Got the last one from Greensborough, $99! Now to unlock it…

    • +1

i can help with unlocking, PM me

      • Hey dizzy, it says

User dizzy_7 does not accept new conversations.

Change your settings & let me know!

  • +1

Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Bagman!!!

  • +4

I went down to my local Dickies and he said "I dont have any. Its cheaper to have these deals if you don't have any stock". Hur hur. Thats Dick Smith humour right there.

  • Temporarily out of stock

  • +1

Just got the last one from DSE in Winston Hills.

If you want to unlock your phone - PM me

    • How unlock this Phone,mate?

    • +3

I just picked one up from Seven Hills, went to the Vodafone unlock site and entered the IMEI before even starting the phone and was given the unlock code for free.
      https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

So free unlock on some devices obviously.

      • +1

        OMG

        Mine unlocked for free too…

        thanks…

      • +1

Wow, talk about being lucky. Purchased 2 (one for the missus) and both unlocked for free - without even opening the box.

        • jv,sk80 are you in Sydney or not? I start to wonder unlock free is location related may because of the batch of stock.

        • Am in Sydney. It could be due to batch of stock or maybe oldest stock gets delivered first. I remember back when there was a deal with Huawei X3, I got a free unlock code.

Later I ordered another for the missus, but I did'nt get free unlock code. It asked for $75 I think. Its the luck of the draw.

        • I am in Brissie, but my online order shipped from Sydney and it was unlocked for free!

    • Cant seem to PM you for some reason. Says dizzy_7 not accepting new conversations or something like that…

    • Would happily PM, but it says your settings don't allow new PMs.

Would appreciate an unlock if you can :) You should be able to PM me or I can try again later

    • I tried, but you don't seem to be accepting conversations. If you are able to unlock, please PM me.

    • Unable to PM you Dizzy_7 would appreciate an unlock code if you can PM me that would be great or go into your settings and change your message profile to accept PM's?

Antutu benchmark scores 13962 for me. So just below a nexus 4. :D

    • For 100 bucks, wow. Can't wait to get mine in the post. BTW what's the Antutu score for the nexus 4?

      • +2

Around 16k, they list other phones on a bar graph to compare. I guess it does so well because the resolution is lower, less pixels to push around etc.

  • Got one but am a bit sorry to have to cut down my good old Live Connected SIM from forever ago.

  • Howdy All
just got the last one at Dick Smith in watergardens
    lukcy me
    yyayyyyy

    • Just grabbed one out of two in stock at Narellan.

  • lol I still managed to place a click and collect order just now.

I still had the product page open from last night which showed the item in stock, it allowed me to add it to the shopping cart, then enter my postcode(Ballarat) pressed enter(instead of clicking GO on the website) to bring up the Ballarat store and was able to put the order through no problems.

I have received the Click & Collect reservation email, but of course haven't received the pick-up email yet as I just placed the order.

Edit: just got my email that order is ready to be picked up.

  • dizzy_7 how much you charge for unlocking?
    Cheers ;-)

    • +1

Free… i didnt want to post on here in case Voda shut it down………….

      • how do I contact you to learn how to unlock??

  • +3

    Thanks OP

Grabbed one in a shop this morning, leant my lesson in not wasting time with DS Online.
Vodafone was kind enough to fork over unlock code on their site for free.

    So make sure you check:
    https://unlock.vodafone.com.au
before you pay someone to do it.

    • Never had to unlock a phone before (thanks to TPG using Optus network)…

VVV do I have to put the voda sim card in before unlocking??

      • You go to Vodafone site and try the IMEI listed on the box, if they give it to you for free, then you should just insert your TPG SIM and once it starts up it will ask for unlock code, which is a 16 digit number.

If you do not get it for free, go to forum and look for:

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/91771?page=5#comment

Just did so myself for the second one I got for a friend, which could not be unlocked for free.

    • Have you tried to unlock this phone on Vodafone website for free ? Mate

      • Yeah tried it. Didn't work (for free) for me. They want $75 to unlock. What a monumental gyp… I'll try bagman.

    • Where were you with this helpful freebie at 9am this morning when we all started paying to get it unlocked. Oh well, my loss.

  • I have one reserved at Centro Arnedale - in South Australia if anyone is interested…

    **the last one they have

    • I just went to Ingle farm DSE and caught the employee there removing them all from the display case. Waited till he was finished then went to the desk and asked about getting one. Was told "they are out of stock". <MOD: Remove Foul language>

      • They were probably taking them out to allocate to the online orders

      • I think they are all for online click and collect. Did you ask them why?

    • I'll take it if it's still available.

Just PM me and I'll respond ASAP.

      Cheers!

  • Just walked into SYD store and ordered one for 99 bucks. Will take a while but seems like an almost cost-less option (down payment 10%, can be cancelled any time)

  • :( out of stock

  • found this. May be helpful to those who got the phone.

    http://43jellybean44kitkata.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/upgradeupdate-huawei-ascend-g526-to-43.html

edit: seems it's just a ad revenue click harvesting site. Don't go there. Sorry.

  • Got 2nd last one at Trickies Brookside (Mitchelton Qld). Now let charge and unlock this …

  • Temporarily out of stock. OFFER ENDS TODAY! lucky I bought one yesterday, now I am look for unlocking

    • try the IMEI on the vodafone unlock webpage. Apparently it's worked for some people and is free.

      https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/

      • Thanks, should I use Vodafone network first, than ask for unlocking or just ask unlock new phone that never been used on any network?

      • Hmmm, I don't get the "free" option. Is there some magic that others did to get it? Did they try the voda sim first to get the unlock option? Did they top up then got it?

Just wondering… (especially if voda unlock it they can't claim vioded warranty).

        • All I did was put the IMEI code in the website and worked like a charm. No buying credit from vodafail first or using vodafail sim. lol Actually this phone will never use vodafail. lol

  • Sorry for the noob question, but does this come with a Voda simcard?

    • being pre-paid it would have to :)

      • Thnx mate

  • Anyone have a good suggestion for a network to use with this?

My wife currently is on the old tpg $1 a month plan.
    uses 250 txt
    30 min of calls
    600mb data.

That ends up costing over $40 a month so there must be better options.

Are voda actually better these days than they used to be? $30 a month unlimited txt, 500mb data and $450 to use on calls and extra data.

Aldi look ok @ $35 unlimited calls and text with 2.5gb.

TPG new plans look pretty lame in comparison. $19 a month but if she goes over the cap the charges are excessive.

Edit: Woolworths $29 deal looks good. 10% off with a rewards card, lasts 45 days, 5GB data.
That would be plenty of data, 250 sms and 30 min of calls would only be around $100 of the cap. That is the equivalent of only $16 a month. Is there something i am missing here? Do WW get access to all the optus network frequencies?

    • +1

Vaya prepaid 18 bucks per month, 4G, 1.5 GB

      • great choice.

edit: @Meteorite - why would anyone want a 24 month contract with vaya at the same rates? am I missing something?

        • 24 month contract to get a free sim. Pay $20 for the SIM and no contract.

      • Be very careful with Vaya data usage though. Also remember first month is pro-rata

Aim for being under 1.3 GB to avoid excess charges. Make sure you use the correct APN with Vaya. Dont use SIM in tablet and do not tether.

    • Oh, woolworths are being dropped by optus and they no longer sell starter kits for it. Annoying.

      Will look at Vaya, thanks.

  • Can I use it without unlock on Voda prepaid reseller?

BTW where to get the sim cutter locally cheap? MSY out of stock.

    • Almost certainly yes. But some of the handsets are unlocking for free anyway. Try Voda unlock by getting the IMEI off the box prior to starting the phone is my advice.
      https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

      • Thanks, checked want $75 ….

      • +1

Thanks already paid bagman for an unlock code but I could get mine on the above link for free.

      • Edit: Dupe

    • Finally cut the card and it works with my Voda prepaid reseller without unlock. So I am not sure the phone is not locked or just because I am using Voda reseller.

I don't another provider sim card to test.

      • If you have a reseller that uses one of the main Vodafone APN's, your phone is still locked to Vodafone, but will work fine, as you have discovered.
For people with a VF reseller that uses one of the 'purtona' APN's, no such luck, I'm afraid.

        • Yeah as long as it is working now for me doesn't matter. May be after 6 months if I need to change provider they will let me unlock it free.

  • Does this phone have much vodaphone BS installed? Is there a plain factory Huawei rom around?

    • +2

Just the few management apps. My Vodafone, a web link to Vodafone and a recharge link.
Best $99 phone by a fair way IMHO.

  • I got one reserved at Helensvale, anyone one interested just PM me .. so i can give you the number.

  • +1

This things performance is pretty good for $99 unlocked :) About 20% down on a Nexus 4 according to a few benchmarks I ran

  • None left at Glenelg SA (They had 2 in stock). I got the last one at Marion SA (they had 4)

  • Anyone has any they want to resell in NSW?

  • +1

The S4 mini is running a MSM8930 at 1700MHz, the G526 stock clock is 1200MHz. Must be some head room in there for an overclock, Rooted and ran set cpu but no go need a custom rom

  • Anyone found local stock for a case?

  • How long does bagman take with unlock codes? its killing me having a new phone and not being able to use it.

  • at least one still left at gungahlin 2 hours ago

  • Before you pay for the unlocking, please check with this page:

    https://unlock.vodafone.com.au/voila/handsetunlock/self-serv…

I just got my code for free! This offer just keeps getting better :)

    • They wanted $75 from me.

      • +1

i got my code for free…

currently got it working on amaysim…

        • So you just input the code the same as us, right? Did you do anything difference?

        • I just entered the EMEI into the link above and it displayed my unlock code…

I did a pickup from Victoria Gardens, maybe the box had been sitting there for more than 6 months ???

  • +1

and the one i got unlocked free

    • +7

I am wondering may be the difference is older and newer stock.

      • +3

        Neg for wondering ???? @.@"

So tell me why some ask for $75 and some free without using their sim.

        • +3

Don't take it personally mate, some people enjoy negging! I gave you a + so you are back on track mate :)

        • +2

Don't worry balanced it out for ya. Yeah I agree that seems like the only logical reason.

        • +2

Perhaps its a vodafone fanboi lol

        • +3

You are now +1, how about it? ;)
