        • So the waiting period should be 6 months from the date of manufacturing… ?

        • +1

Well, it's impossible to link the IMEI directly to purchase. The best they could hope for is activation of the prepaid SIM, but I'm sure they have customers that are using existing SIMs all the time…

Simpler for them to enter the IMEI into the system as the stock comes in, and flag it for 6+ months.

Cool, my one unlocked free as well!

One left in Maryborough, Qld. I knew there must be some advantage to living there.

  • Got one this morning from Karrinyup WA. Sent payment to bagman - probably should have tried the Vodafone self serve first but oh well, it's only $5!

    Amazing phone for the price.

    • Did you already receive the unlock code from Bagman

  • Sydney George St. was sold out at lunchtime but I took their offer of a customer order for %10 deposit at that price. The staff told me they call to inform you when (if) they receive more stock and they refund if no stock or I no longer want to wait for it (gives me sometime to think about it :-)

  • +1

Just got the last one at Carlingford. Apparently someone reserved it before me but kept pushing the pick up time back. I said I'd come at 5 and got it

  • Just picked mine up at Morley WA. Didn't seem like it was the last one. A real bargain!

  • DSE Brisbane CBD apparently sold out this morning, placed an order in at my request however.

  • +4

This is nuts… why do I feel that we should do a group buy and just approach a few phone companies (Huawei, HTC, Nokia, Sony etc) and go 'We like these model phones, we have this many people interested in this model, what is your best price'.

The amount of people cleaning out all the Dicks is absolutely amazing, they obviously didn't see this one cumming!

  • +1

a couple starting to show up on ebay @190. we should all spam them with best offers of $99.

    • With all the specs coming through on this phone, I think I'll keep mine. It's pretty future proofed. Plus replacement screens can be had for $6.50

  • website shows "Availability:Temporarily out of stock" from 3 pm today and does not come with option to add to the shopping chart. Can anybody suggest stores which have enough in stock(SE suburbs Melbourne)

    • Ship has sailed my friend.

  • there is still one remaining at the Warrnambool branch of dick smith

    Unlock fees for IMEI: ##############
    Service Fee:$50.00
    New Phone:$50.00
    Online discount*:$25.00 -
    Total:$75.00

BOO vodafail! another $5.49 going to bagman!

    • If you get the charge $75 for unlock,

may get a result using the Handset Unlocking Difficulties webform on the unlocking page.

      Worth a try…..

Still waiting on my delivery from the Dickster!

    Huawei is a good brand!

    • Nah, Huawei is absolutely woeful Chinese crap…

      Wait… hmm, yeah… no…
      Maybe…
      I'll look at it..
Yeah, it sucks but for the price…
      Semi-reasonable and still cheap…
      Getting competitive now!
      Damn… this isn't bad!
      Wow, they can build THIS?
Holy heck, how are they building phones like this for so cheap!

(The evolution of my thoughts on Huawei).

It's like the Hyundai of the phone world.

      • +2

Holy heck, how are they building phones like this for so cheap!

Just because Samsung and Apple build them for cheap for sell them for more. I heard the parts inside is the same as Samsung Galaxy Express.

Do you know they are number 3 in the world just after Apple?

Just grabbed one at the DS shop outside the Mandurah, WA forum. I think there's a couple more there (it was in the back when I called- I had them hold it for me). Late night trading here- there's still time!

Even though there's a SIM included, I didn't have to fill out or sign anything…I swear I had to the last mobile I purchased?

Anyways- lots of positive feedback makes it a good deal to me. I'm actually in a contract on an SG2 until Xmas. Nothing wrong with a spare 4G at this price. Might even gift it to my teen daughter, actually.

    Thanks OP!!!

    :)

  • Got a call from D's saying no stock, oversold. Sh$t. Should have chosen a different store.

  • Thanks Op, got the 2nd last unit from Roselands, NSW.

    Good phone and responsive.

By the way, did any one noticed the icon is kinda sucks because all icons that has transparency back were not shown in transparent, it was displayed as icon inside a grey rounded square.

    • +1

Use a difference launcher like APEX Launcher.

      • hi mate,

Thanks. Just tried, still the same. Googled and found other complains on their facebook too.

        • +1
        • icon pack solved the issue. cheers.

also the original theme pack from huawei emotion ui website solves the issue too.

        • Which site did you get the original theme pack from?
I've only been able to find these themes for the P1 http://en.ui.vmall.com/themep1.html

        • Hey JPL,
Where is that Huawei original theme pack?
Cant seem to find it with Google.

        • +3

The official emotion ui page is here
          http://en.ui.vmall.com/index.html

then click Theme, and select P1, you will see a list of themes. The theme download is pointing to huawei's cloud service that is sometime a bit flaky. If that didn't work, you can download a full collections (more than the official website) from here

          https://mega.co.nz/#!QVwAxYxT!HYNefWosg4blyzypF6gwu3tVhAcTTI…

Unzip the zip file, then copy all the content to the phone's HWThemes folder using USB cable. After that run Themes app on the phone, you will see the full list of the downloaded themes.

Take note that some theme will change the system font, preview the theme first before apply.

The pack has total of 68 themes.

          Hope this helps.

          Cheers

        • Thanks for the detailed instructions jpl.
I had a little trouble though - couldn't see any "original pack" also was a bit unsure regarding selecting the Huawei P1. Are you sure about that? It sounds like the kind of thing that could cause problems as the phone is of course the G526, so they are 100% compatible?
I will have a look through that Mega link later and see if I can find the "original pack" in there.

        • +1

          Hi mate,

I can't download the one from the official website, the Mega Link pack works fine on my G526. The theme from Mega Link download and official website looks the same.

        • Thanks again.

I bought 4 of them I am going overseas monday so i get them for $90 each after gst refund good buying thanks op.

    • Minimum spend limit to qualify for TRS?

Because my click and collect order worked, I called up DSE to cancel the second one I ordered for shipping. The guy seemed surprised. I only needed one and couldn't be bothered trying to sell it later…

    • Hmmm… Cancelled order yesterday…

Today, online, it's still saying awaiting fulfillment and credit card just got charged $99.

  • I found it difficult to remove the back cover. Does anyone have the same problem?

    • +2

      no…

there's a tiny gap on the top left side to stick you nail in and take it off…

        • I know :)

So excited, the phone just arrived and I'm one of the lucky ones with free unlock! Will post a quick hands on review if anyone is interested but from using it for 1/2 hour, I'm very very impressed!

    • Which link you used to unlock it? Because somebody mentioned about a difficult webform but I couldn't find it.

      • +1

        Link is on page 3.

        • -2

I am clearly said that I am talking about the web form mentioned not that link, I knew the link already.

I cannot find what he means the webform on the unlocking page, is it the same thing?

goamax 1 hour 42 min ago
If you get the charge $75 for unlock,

may get a result using the Handset Unlocking Difficulties webform on the unlocking page.

          Worth a try…..

Still waiting on my delivery from the Dickster!

        • Clear as mud….

You didn't reply to goamax did you. You also said "Because somebody mentioned about a difficult webform"

        • -2

I knew this link but goamax mentioned that if got charge $75 "try using the Handset Unlocking Difficulties webform on the unlocking page."

I am confused is it another link to unlock it?

        • The only mention I can find of difficulties is this.

If you experience difficulties, or to unlock your device with Vodafone Customer Support assistance, please contact Vodafone Customer Support on 1300 650 410 or 1555 from your mobile if you are already a Vodafone customer. Your online discount will still apply if you follow our online instructions but still have problems unlocking.

You need to call vodafone and will still have to pay if your IMEI comes up that a fee is required to unlock.

Mine came up with the fees so I just ordered an unlock code from bagman.
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/91771

        • I am confused why you still havent replied to goamax….

Anyway, read the bit of text you have quoted. "try using the Handset Unlocking Difficulties webform on the unlocking page."

He is saying follow the "difficulties" link on the unlocking page. It is pretty straightforward. Maybe the link only shows after you get an unlock code. Either way, i doubt they will just unlock it for free because you ask them to.

  • Anyone got a home delivery order go through? I bought 2 on Wednesday night but my cc is still on "Pending" and my order is still "Awaiting Fulfilment" - I wish I knew about this earlier, seems like a good upgrade from a Nexus S for mum and dad…

    • Yep, mine went through, shipped yesterday, and arrived this morning. Even though it shipped from the same state, couldn't believe it arrived before the weekend, as I live in a rural area.

All I will say is for 99 bucks, this is one hell of a sweet phone :)

  • I ordered first night the deal was posted, is hitting my door today apparently

  • -1

Just arrived, oh what a crappy screen! Dick Smith had the Samsung S2 for $238 a few weeks ago, and definitely worth the extra $138 for the better screen for something you use all day.

    • IPS LCD Screen and Super AMOLED is two difference thing.

What wrong with your screen? Mine just look like a standard LCD screen.

      • -1

Yeah, I am probably being a bit harsh, as I am used to the S2 screen. I think it's worth the extra $ for a better screen.

        • I put my Galaxy Nexus and the G526 next to each other. The Nexus is a bit dark and deep colour and G526 is brighter.

But it is OK for my son to replace his Y201 which is already a big upgrade for him.

        • Ha, I'm replacing my Y201 as well! Now it's being turned into a wi-fi hotspot/home phone

    • Sounds to me you have a faulty phone? The screen quite good on the one I got. Nothing comes close at this price point either. I'd prefer this phone over an s2, I only have a galaxy nexus to compare it against, and its better than it in many respects. 4g, faster processor, bigger screen it seems too, since the gnex counts the buttons in the screen size, and better speaker.

      • I don't have a chance to take it outside under sun light yet, is it better than Galaxy Nexus? But I found it is heavier than my Galaxy Nexus.

Yeah the displayable size seems is larger than Nexus in real use.

Ha ha in that case should I replace my nexus with this :) Because I bought two one for my wife but she may not like the name Huawei :(

        • I will persist with my nexus for a little while longer, but I'm pissed off about no kitkat. I could only get one phone at my local ds, so I'm kind of stuck with the nexus anyway. Hopefully the kitkat custom roms become more stable or I'll have to look at getting a n5. I haven't tested the Huawei in direct sunlight, but even my gnex i can't view even at full brightness in direct sunlight. And yeah the Huawei is heavier, thicker and the build quality is poor.

  • I installed the Twitch app and tried watching a stream but after about 5min the phone just turns off by itself? ie. I have to hold the power button to turn the phone back on.

    Anyone else having this problem?

EDIT: It doesn't seem to be doing that with a different streamer. I have no idea what is going on now. Annnnnnnd it doesn't happen anymore on the same streamer either. Weird.

  • WOO! Just received Dick… just got given Dick… just received my phone from Dick… better!

Plus Vodafone just gave me a free unlock code! AWESOME!

    • +1

me too, what a bargain :)

    • NVM.

  • +1

Didn't like the default theme, replaced it with the apex launcher and now it's much better.

    • Had never heard of Apex before. Tried it, love it :) Got it on my Nexus 7 now too. So thanks!

  • +1

Insert a Telstra prepaid Sim the download speed is 50Mbps, wow!

    • -1

Makes me wonder why we need the NBN at all for residential addresses.

      • +2

Because the largest 4G data plan I've seen so far is 10GB, which at 50Mbps would be sucked up in a couple of HD movies…

Maybe if they started to offer decent data plans, we'd be able to make the switch to completely wireless!

We're probably more likely to get NBN before that. :P

        • 5G is coming :-)

"Makes me wonder why we need the NBN at all for residential addresses."

A result of a knee jerk un-researched policy choice. Providing faster internet access to mostly those that already had it. Those with no access or restricted to adsl1 still suffer. Meh..

A good adsl 2 connection is fine for domestic use.

        • A good adsl 2 connection is fine for domestic use.

That alone is the problem. What defines 'good adsl 2'? At our last house, I had 12Mbps. The new place is closer to the exchange, but can't get over 6Mbps, due to quality issues on the copper lines.

I've also got 3 clients that are connected to an overcrowded and full exchange. As a result, the internet at all their locations is horribly slow, with no other options. And this isn't a regional area, it's just poorly designed exchange zoning. No extra copper is going to help those, or the other thousand or so businesses in the same area.

And as for 5G - that's great. More speed. Are we going to get more bandwidth? Because without that, it's completely useless.

        • 8km from the exchange here and on a rim with a top hat?? think its called that??
Getting "Downstream Line Rate (Kbps): 17738"
Nothing we need calls for anything faster than that.

Internet pundits and extremists may have some call for 10X that speed but they should pay fully for the provision for that not every aust tax payer.
Money would be better spent on more necessary things like hospitals and roads.

      • Not everyone has 4G available to them either (not that my mobile is with telstra) 50Mbps is only a dream for me even with my fixed line ADSL can't even hit 10Mbps. And now they tell us the NBN has been put back up to 2 years in my area

        • I get 36 Mbps here. 3g though is plenty good enough. Tel$tra are the onlyones offering 4g around here.

  • damn did anyone knew that it only accepts mini sim?

    • Micro sim only.

      • +3

        Scissors are your friend

        • +1

Yeah they worked fine for me, just used the supplied voda one as a guide.

        • +2

i cut my normal sized sim down with kitchen scissors. Works a treat.

    • did anyone knew that it only accepts mini sim?

Buy a $2 replacement micro-SIM, and phone your telco to switch over.

      • Vodafone told me to get a blank sim instead.

  • Anybody found a place that sells decent covers for these phones? There's hardly anything on ebay…

    • There were a few available from AU sellers but they all went pretty quickly.

I ordered one of these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231047032972

      • I saw those, they don't cover the front.

      • I was going to order from them, but they do not accept Paypal.

I don't trust them with my credit card details…

        • The seller doesn't get the money till you mark received on Aliexpress or after 60 days passed. Also by using credit card you can dispute. Been buying stuffs from Aliexpress for ages, so far so good. The free shipping will go 2 round the world before you get it, so 30-40days is normal. Some do ship quicker.

          Never use a debit card.

    • Note to anyone following those links: The 2nd link is not a case for this phone.
