      • True. As China should be concerned about Cisco etc equipment.

As consumers, it is the NSA and DSD getting our data in transit that we should be worried about, not back doors on the handset.

        • +1

          Indeed.
Though despite all the NSA/GCHQ invasive conduct, i'd still rather be run by the Americans than the CCP.

i was thinking about getting it in store tomorrow, so dont have to wait for delivery, had a look in their "all stars" catalogue (the one that starts tomorrow), it's listed as $199 on page4.

    pricing error?

    • I sure hope not.

    • Looks like it, I just checked the catalog too. What's the chances they will send them out anyway? Slim I suppose :(

      • Received email with tax invoice, phone will be dispatched today :)

    • It's a special one day deal. The price valid in store only 9am to 5pm tomorrow. Then it will be back to $199.00. Dick Smith has this kind of special one day deal almost everyday. Just different products each day. Pretty sure you will see a big ad in front their store for this daily deal when you arrive there tomorrow.

  • +2

Arggh hate them price errors! I don't think this one is because the phone is advertised on their main website and price listed is a graphic, meaning it could not have been a typo :D Maybe it was listed today and the catalogue is yet to be updated. Fingers crossed…

Also if you read it says deal starts in-store tomorrow and online today after 5 pm.

    • right, its called "dick live daily deal", probably some special deal, not related to the catalogue deal.
and it does say it starts in store tomorrow.
sorry for the panic caused, lol…

  • Ordered one.Thanks OP.

Out of stock, online and click and collect not available.

    • The website has been doing this since around 8pm - keep trying as it looks like an error. One moment it's out of stock, next moment it's available.

  • Comment from Systema @ whirlpool forum (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2133682):

The obvious corner that Huawei had cut was storage. 4GB ROM with 1GB internal storage available for apps, seriously?

    Now.. my comment…

For me, personally, it is going to be a backup phone with perhaps some occasional use it as a portable 4G wifi device. Would have still like more usable internal memory space though… But if you don't game a lot on an Android phone, 1GB should still be usable.

    • And Link2SD will take care of a majority of space hogging apps. Assuming you root it first.

  • +1

There is a problem with their web site keep saying no item in the basket, something like that.

    • +1

Keep trying.. could be a temporary error - but was happening to me too. Otherwise it could be out of stock. Don't forget the stores tomorrow if all else fails.

      • Went to Warringah Mall before they close, the guy said have 2 in stock but couldn't find it.

        Damn it.

        • Just phone them in the morning to confirm. If you're lucky they'll hold them aside, because they're not supposed to (for these one day sales).

        • That's so dick smith, even ringing them before hand gets the 'yeah we have them, come on in' and when you get there its 'we can't find it'

  • Does anyone know if the mic button on the earphones work on this phone to control volume, track etc? My THL W100 does not support this. Thanks.

    • from my experience, it depends on the type of hands free control on the earphones.
i find earphones that are designed for newer smartphones, work universally across phones with android ginger bread onwards, but usually do nothing for older androids.

  • After getting shafted by dick last time, it would take a hell of a deal for me to take another chance of being screwed again.

    I bit…

Replacing a Y201 which is being de-moted to wifi/home phone duties. A little more than I would of liked to pay (I'd prefer to pay $0 if I could) but apparently a better phone than the Y300, except the screen isn't anti-scratch glass and doesn't have a FM transmitter.

  • How hard is this phone to unlock? And root?

Edit: I need to learn to read the first page comments. :P

  • How does it compare with huawei y300 for $99 as well?

  • This is starting to look like the hottest phone on Ozbargain since the Acer Liquid MT.

Any other notable bargains like this in between?
(in this mid-range category, not the basement-level y201, or upmarket Nexus4/5)

    • I got the Huawei G300+ from Dickies a couple of weeks ago for $79 delivered and got an unlock code from our favourite unlock code provider.

  • In dick smith website it says deal ends at 5 pm today. I am not sure y they haven't removed it from their site.

    • It says deal ends at 5pm tomorrow online.

      • Sorry, you are right.

  • +1

Got one in my shopping cart but it defaults to click and collect and won't let me change it to home delivery. When I then try to check out using any post code for click and collect it won't let me. Doh

    • Same issue here. lol This seems to be the 2nd deal I missed out on in the last couple of days. Should pay more attention.

    • Keep trying, i had to try about 5-6 times and then click and collect worked…

  • Tried almost 10 times, no luck… :(

    • same here have tried a heap of times over the last 30 min.

  • Yeah I'll give up now. Let me know if you get it working. :)

    • Try a different browser?

  • +5

In the Click and collect section, enter your postcode and press enter instead of the GO button.

    • YES, WORK FOR ME.. THANKS..

      • Delete.

    • Weird thing is that on the main page, it says this deal is not available for click and collect ??

    • Thanks, this gave me a selection of stores to collect. No shipping, good enough for me.

  • haha I feel like such an idiot. Thanks wafting :)

  • Curious about Antutu scores for this phone. Could someone run a test once they have theirs in hand?

  • Nup, no matter what I do, it always selects click and collect and then says none available!

    Tries IE and FF.

    :(

    • +1

Worked via chrome for me. Once I pressed enter instead of clicking problem went away.

      • Thanks Ronnnie, yes that worked. Geez they make it hard.

Only store in WA with stock appears to be Armadale.

      • Got the last one from Lilydale Vic thanks to Wafting. Now showing out of stock for that store. However I reckon they won't honour it:

        Product exclusions
Most products on dicksmith.com.au are available to reserve online and collect in store. There are however some exclusions. These include Gift Cards, iTunes Cards, Pre-paid Mobile Phones & Broadband, along with Wire Rolls & Loose Cable.

Can't wait for the carry on tomorrow.

  • Is it entry level smartphone of 2013?? 75++ clicks :) :)
or it can be used as backup phone??

You get what you pay for ::)

    • 4.5" dual core CPU, tri band, 4GB storage good enough for a lot of people.

  • -1

Home Delivery seems to be working again now…

Looks like Click & Collect wont be honoured as it's in the T&C's that prepaid aren't allowed and they will contact you to tell you they will cancel the order…

    • Tried it just now. Doesn't work for me.

      • +1

        Try it in Internet Explorer…

Chrome worked for me for click and collect, but no home delivery.
Then I switched to IE and it allowed home delivery but no click and collect ????

they probably have a work experience student working on their website….

        • Me also use chrome click and collect.

        • My order went through using Home Delivery at 11:22pm (Melb time)…

          Keep trying…

        • Tried with IE Chrome and Safari. Only click and collect.

    • Or they may not even call you to tell you that they have not reserved your order.

    • I think they won't call to cancel the order because their staff won't read their own web site T&C.

  • It is back again. Still click and collect only.

    • It's saying $199 on the front screen…

      • It is on page 4. $199 is on page one. It is very confusing.

      • But today at 5pm I saw they have it in store with label for $99 but they couldn't find it for me.

      • DSE fail… on the front page they have the some phone list twice for 2 different prices.

Says free delivery - has the delivery option greyed out when you go to use it.

T&Cs say you cant click and collect mobiles - the order system accepts c&c orders for them.

        nice work DSE.

Ended up putting in two click and collect orders to replace an Optimus 7 and Acer liquid metal. Reluctant to get rid of the acer, built like a tank. Took a dive from the roof of a moving car, battery and back cover were run over. Sat on the side of the road in a massive downpour for about 45 min before i found it. A little drying time, some panel beating of the back cover and it was back to normal.

    • How did you get Click and Collect? - it's saying not available for me

      • Enter your postcode and press [Enter]…

Click and collect now showing "Sold Out" for my 3 nearest stores…

        • Thanks, pressing Enter works! Selecting your suburb doesn't! Cheers jv

  • All over for home delivery. None available (unless I'm doing something wrong!)

  • "Error creating order" even when click and collect went through.

  • Dse better honour this deal

    • Received order confirmation with invoice, phone will be dispatched today :)

      • Well I'll find out soon enough. My local store only had one in stock.

  • Out of stock

  • out of stock…

  • Darnit I missed out.

  • Received email/sms at 8.21am confirming order available for pick-up in store.

  • Thanks OP, snagged one last evening - looks a great buy at that price with a very good feature set for average users.

    Appreciate the post.

  • +1

Available in store George St, Sydney CBD.

    • The one on Pitt St Mall is gone

  • +1

Ordered one for Mum, thanks Ozbargain

  • Just picked up my Click & Collect order from last night,DSE guy reckons they had over 20 orders for the 3 phones they had in stock, thanks OP.

    • Does it come with a voda prepaid sim?

      • Yes prepaid multi-fit sim

    • Can you check if it comes unlocked?

  • If its out of stock online, does it mean its out of stock in store?

edit: went and got one in store!

Wondering what the chances are of flipping the phone on ebay for $180 or so and buying what I really want?

    • Not sure why I got voted down… only bought one! I'll probably get stupid offers like all the other times and end up keeping it!

  • In the specs it says that it has a micro-sim.
Can anyone who has one confirm pls?

    • yes, micro sim

    • When I show girls my micro sim they just laugh, but yes, definately micro sim :)

  • FWIW bought one of these cases:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190945284396?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

And some screen protectors for it:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/390662413682?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

Didn't like the look of the cheaper PU cases.

  • Just pick up my reservation from St Ives and bought one more for my wife (last one sorry).

But for some reason I have also received SMS reservation ready confirmation from Warringah Mall which I didn't order from them. I went there last evening before the shop closed but they couldn't find one for me may be they found it now.

If anyone want to try their luck pm me I can give you the reservation number for you to try.

    • Sorry I think I got the SMS text message wrong it is not for this one.

      Sorry

  • got one penrith westfield store on morning to replace my Huawei y300. Locked to VODAFONE, $75.00 needed to unlock from vodafone website. But doesn't matter to vodafone customer as me.

    Using micro sim.
Definitely need a memory card. only 1G left for your own data.
    Version G526 L22, 3G 850/900/2100Mhz, all Australia 2G, 3G, 4G networks compatible.

    Definitely worth the money.
Next upgrade, keeping an eye on Huawei P6

    • Micro SIM how can it cut it by the way?
