Just got my Coles MC a week ago. Damn!

    • I missed out the $50 offer for some reason.. should I wait for a $100 off that might be coming up after this one expires in April!! :-)

      • +1

        tbh, I think you should.

    • Hi… how do you pay for credit card bill for this? Any interest charged on the amount you spent on the card?

And how to cancel the card?

      • Bpay /Post Office/ Cheque / Direct debit

You have up to 55 days interest free period which is the due date printed on your bill

You call them and cancel it on 1300 306 397 within Australia or +613 9420 4816 from overseas

        • thanks!

    • I heard from people that some credit cards actually allow u to withdraw cash (basically the bank extends a loan). Can u do this with the coles mastercard? If not what card offers this feature? What's the monthly limit? And is it 55-day interest free as well?

  • +1

    Nice find bargainhunter. Thanks.

  • +2

Any drawbacks if we decide to never use this card?

    • The MC itself is not required to use the voucher but you need some sort of flybuys card handy.

Approved applicants with a flybuys account will be sent a $75 Off voucher within 6 weeks of opening a new account. The flybuys barcode must be scanned at the time of presenting the voucher.

    • +1

The only drawback I can see is that applying for a credit card will appear on your credit record. It's unlikely to have any impact unless you regularly apply for cards and then want to take out a very large loan. Lenders may look at that as a sign you're juggling money between cards.

      • +1

Also your repayment history on all credit cards or loans you have with a bank, will now be on your credit file from March 2014. Be careful before you decide or forget a payment ;)

Just applied. Lets see if i get approved. I already have 7 credit cards so not putting my hopes up for this one

    • +5

Not sure why people are negging. Most of the credit cards I have are from offers like cash backs, points etc which end up being cancelled just before the anniversary date . I have no balances owing or debt, as I pay my bills on time

  • Time to reboot my Coles MasterCard!

    • +4

I used to make guitar picks with them in Uni days :-)

    • +3

Yup, we just swipe them through the crack one after the other. Easy to clean too because they're plastic.

Don't tell me you're one of those suckers still paying for TP!

  • +2

I feel dumb. I just made the deadline for $50 off, as did my sister. I thought the offer would be pulled if not claimed by 28 Feb, didn't think they'd actually beat it instead.

There's always a catch. See this article:

The Account Cover Plus option (cost is 1% of monthly closing balance) seems to be fantastic?

Especially the part about if the thing you bought becomes cheaper in the next TWO YEARS they'll refund the difference. Every electronic gets cheaper, so you you'd be mad not to buy your next TV on this card and before it goes on runout, get the cheapest price and get them to reimburse (could save you hundreds!!) I know my TV has come down over $600 since I bought it.

    • If you see an item that you purchased on your Coles MasterCard
on sale at a reduced price at the same store (even if it’s a different
location within Australia) within two years of purchase, we’ll pay
the difference onto your card account – because we know how
    annoying that is.
    • If a new item that you just purchased on your Coles MasterCard
is broken, lost or stolen within six months of purchase, we’ll pay
the cost of repair or replacement onto your card account! That’s
    better than some warranties!
    • If your Coles MasterCard card is stolen, we’ll pay $200 just for
    the inconvenience.

    • +2

If you pay off your balance before the end of your month, does that mean it's 1% of $0?

Who wants to steal my card? Please?

      • +1

You have to ensure your balance is paid off before your statement is created. Then you don't pay anything for the protection.

This is tricky to manage on your first month, especially if you don't know exactly when your statement date is. You just need to get in the pattern of checking your balance before this date and paying everything off (plus a bit more for any upcoming purchases).

        • +1

It sounds like you want to steal my card…

        • Ring ring .. Ring ring .. Hello Coles MasterCard CS how can we help you … Umm some ozbargainer has stolen my card .. No worries here is $200 for the inconvenience and we will mail you a new card today

        • Thanks Coles, can I get another $75 off with the new card? …. Sure, why not?!

  • I just want to know from Fellow OZ bargainers here is what would be the best platinum card around to apply with max benefits ?

    • I recently applied and got approved for a CITI signature card. Comes with 80000QFPoints…$395 annual fee….reasonable fee if you use the points towards a J or F QF redemption as I have to LAX….having said that, I am an active participant is the credit card / point game. I have 9 cards on the go. some with annual fees some without. When they are of no use to me I close them, and within months re apply for the latest offers. Interestingly the only ones to have knocked me back are WOW EDR on their shitty HSBC assosciated card, yet CITI were happy to handout a $25k limit easily.

  • A few years ago when I was paying off a credit card from Harvey Norman, on a much lower pay rate, I was given 4 credit cards with different goodies from different companies and all of them wanted to give me many thousands of $s increases to credit. No questions.

A month or 2 ago when I applied for the Coles one with the $50 voucher I was declined. I don't have any debt, credit cards and have not for over 3 years. I think they just denied my because of the voucher.

    • Minimum spend is $25.05 after savings and discounts in one transaction at Coles Supermarkets and Bi-Lo (excluding smoking/tobacco product purchases, Coles Group gift cards and iTunes cards).

Does that mean we have to buy $100.05 worth of stuff to use the voucher?

      • That's what it sounds like. And you can't buy Coles Group gift cards either. T&C doesn't say you can't buy other gift cards however.

  • what is the minimum income required?

    • When I applied, it didn't ask for my payslips or any proof of income. I told them what I earned, and they just accepted it.

I want for the minimum credit limit though. I don't intend to use this card.

  • Cash back value wise this card has been rated 2nd on Canstar rewards credit card list.

After using a number of rewards cards I can recommend that this card to anyone who pays their balance in full every month.

    $75 bonus is a plus!

    • whats no 1?

  • i filled mine out without a flybuys card and only just realised i needed to have one for the voucher .. what are my chances of still receiving the 75$ ?

    • call them to cancel your application. Then reapply

  • Just got approval for this but called them just to be safe that I was recieving the $75 voucher but it looks like majority of the team members are not aware of this deal.

Had to wait on hold for confirmation and was advised it is legit after 10 mins.

So yeah best to call them after you get approved to make sure its legit.

however the card itself is an awesome deal.

The annual fee will easily be wiped away if you use your card for everything i.e. bills, booking fights, petrol etc.

  • applied ans approved within 2 hrs. yay

  • "We're sorry, but based on the information you've provided, we're unable to offer you a Coles MasterCard, as your application doesn't fall within our current acceptance guidelines.
    "

    What could be the reason?

    • could be time you've been at current address, salary, number of credit cards/limit you declared on your application etc

  • has this expired? I want to sign up but can't see the $75 off deal on their site

    • its there http://www.colescreditcards.com.au/$75-off?gemid1=feb14-col-edm-%2475t+l

  • If you just want the account cover purchase protection (but don't care much about points), would it be better to go for the no annual fee option? I doubt I'd spend enough to earn back the $49 in points.

    • +1

That's what I did , just make sure u pay the "potential" balance before ur statement date and it will be free :)

    • +1

Also, I would recommend after getting the fee-free card to call them up and ask them to upgrade you to the rewards card and waive the first years annual fee. They'll be happy to do it and (for me) it didn't even require mailing out a new card, it was purely an account upgrade on their end and I started earning 4x points straight away.

What about the second/third year's fee you ask? Just call them up in 11 months or so and either cancel the card, or get them to waive the annual fee again to keep you as a customer (see other threads/comments, while I haven't done this myself for this card, these companies are so keen to keep your business you are very likely to get your annual card fee waived (or refunded) indefinitely if you call them up each year).

  • +1

Coles Mastercard is also offering a 0% BT for 6 months if you call them up, and for the FULL card limit (as opposed to 80% of the limit like citibank and other current offers). Unfortunately I found out that the 6 months is from account opening, so for those of us who got this card late last year it's basically useless but if you were late to get on the free money train and only opened an account this year, call them up now and ask about it, you can still get 3-4 months worth of free 0% BT.

OP - not sure if this deserves a new thread or if you should just update the existing title to include the 0% 6 month BT… perhaps we should wait for someone with the fee-free non-platinum card to call up and verify as it may not be for all customers. As soon as I enquired about a BT the call centre person basically read from her script so it's definitely a thing, just not sure why it's not being promoted on their advertising materials.

    • Good tip, thanks! IMO these 0% BT offers are the best kind of signup bonus.

    • Another thought: If they offer you the BT and you've taken out account cover plus, do you still get charged the 1% account cover plus fee? Because technically you have an outstanding closing balance of the BT amount.

  • you'll be paying a lot more than $75 in interest

  • Already got my card in the Mail last week, but … I dont know what happened because i just got approved for another card according to my email :o

    Hoping i get 2 $75 vouchers now :)

  • if this is similar to the previous $50 credit card deal,
the voucher is generic but associated with your flybuys card number.

  • Apparently the $75 gift card won't be shipped out until end of march so have to keep an eye out closely. Even though the annual dee is $49 I'll easily get that back since I'll use the card for purchasing everything from fuel, holidays, gifts, groceries etc.

  • End of March and still no card. Anyone got theirs yet?

    • First lot is mid april.
      Second lot is mid may

The link was targeted to certain flybuys customers as per CS team
I was told that if you didnt get an email, you wont get the voucher

But i got the nice lady on the phone to put in the notes that im eligible

  • Paizuri when did you get approved?

I had delays and hiccups on my card, didn't get it until 3 weeks after approval date.

As for the $75 dollar voucher I spoke with a Customer service rep and they advised we should get an email tomorrow advising which option to go for, either a $75 voucher ( delivery time 7-10 working days great…) or 15,000 fly buy points.

    • I didnt get the email, hmm I think I should call them.

      • should be in the mail today. All good, thanks.

        • Scratch that. Still not here.

    • I'd go for the 15000 points if I was offered the deal. The points and voucher amount are the same $ value. You could save the points for a product or ticket reward or convert them to flybuys dollars.

If you converted them to flybuys dollars then you wouldn't have to use the whole amount straight away. You could make multiple purchases until you reach $75 and pay using the flybuys dollars. If you take the points and then convert to flybuys dollars it also means you don't have to carry around an extra piece of paper and then have to remember it at the counter.

    • Did anyone get this email?

  • I still havent got an email yet. Not happy.

    • I rang coles mastercard today and got told by the lady that I should have received the voucher with my welcome pack. I said I hadn't. I checked it again tonight when I got home and there's no voucher in there.

She contacted flybuys and they said I would only get $50 off and not 75 (????) and that I would get it credited to my flybuys card or in the mail.

Sounds like another pain in the arse ahead of me, right after going through all this with the rebel sports deal too.

  • You can get 6 months interest free 100% balance transfer on this card.

However, if you take out the price protection insurance, you will be charged the 1% insurance fee based on your outstanding balance. And if you've taken the balance transfer then you'll be paying 1% of the balance transfer amount each month.

The good news is that you can always sign up for the purchase protection insurance at a later date, so I'd recommend waiting until after you've paid back the BT.

    • Note the BT has to be done to a credit card - any ideas on how to do a BT to a CC without incurring a cash advance fee for taking the money off the credit card?

  • Strange… the Coles credit card website clearly says a $75 voucher yet they sent me one for $25.

    • +1

they are dicking us around something shocking. The flybuys people said i would get one for $50. i havent gotten anything yet.

      • +1

Call them and ask for a date. The guy on the phone told me May 29th. Almost a 2 month delay after signing up for the card.

  • Applied and card approved in March. Had to call twice. First time they said I'd receive an email soon and the voucher would be posted in early April. Second time they told me in May… still havent received any email/voucher - not happy at all!

  • Applied one and got approved on 20th April.. got the card 2 days ago in the mail and had no voucher in there.

Called customer service and the guy told me it was a targeted offer, only people who was sent the promotion email are eligible.

Argued with him about it being advertised without that 'targeted' terms and conditions, and said there's a second wave of vouchers being sent on 9th May, but did note that based on what he can see, there is no note that I'm eligible. Will see what happens then….

  • I rang again. Apparently instead of getting the voucher, I got a $50 credit on my card. That will do me I suppose, but still its all a bit of a mess.

    • ill call them tomorrow and ask for flybuy points to the value of $75 instead

  • +1

Just called them and they apologized and credited my account with $79 … yes $79 dollars

    • +1

Mine got credited with $75. What happens if the voucher comes in the mail?!

      • use it right way before they cancel it

  • After being approved and using the card, have been told I'm not eligible, despite it being advertised on the website. They're blaming it on Google's indexing. They didn't even budge when I cancelled the account.

Not participating in any more Coles deals.

    • Do u want a screen shot of the terms and conditions

      • Thanks for the offer but I've given up on fighting them for it. I just closed the account instead.

        • no probs, when i called first time, they told me it was a targeted offer and only those email addresses that got the offer are eligible. The nice CS Girl put in my notes that im eligible hence why they put the money on my account. I guess it pays to be nice and chatty :)

        • Haha, nice. :)

  • well i finally got a voucher for $55 and called to complain about it. Then credited $20 back into my CC to make up for it.
