    Expect new iPads in October

    • +2

New iPads aren't expected to bring much to the table. A better processor, better camera and a little bit lighter? I reckon this device is perfectly good for the foreseeable future and I wouldn't worry about the pending release.

      • +3

Touch ID as well one could safely assume.

        • -6

Yeah but who uses Touch ID on their 5s anyway? Most people I know used it for a week and then switched it off. It's a good idea but at the end of the day it's just another spec to impress the isheep and an attempt to retain market share. I'm pretty fast at swiping to unlock too haha

        • +23

I use the TouchID all the time!

        • +7

          @ShamelessBargains:
Well I've still got my on, it's fantastic. Will be indispensable once iOS8 comes out and developers take advantage of it.

        • +8

@ShamelessBargains: I use it every single time to unlock and purchasing app and songs at iTune, too lazy to enter password nowadays, just gently hold the home button for a sec Viola!

        • +5

i use it, touch id is the best that is the reason i switched my android to a iphone 5s.

        • +7

@Zfan111222: I use it too, the work email requires the phone to be locked with a pin and Touch ID saves me from typing the pin every time. Love thie feature over my older HTC One

        • +10

@ShamelessBargains: lol u should know better than to bash apple stuff in an apple bargain… its a feature… same as a big screen will be a new never before seen feature of the next iphones… u just nod n move on .. :) i've had apple products… n cant fault them, good consumer products and great marketing :)

        • +3

@scud70: and their support is pretty top notch

        • +6

@scud70: tbh I am locked into the apple ecosystem and I am a struggling to see new apple innovation. I don't like the way Apple is heading by following the pack and rebranding their products with very minimal upgrades. It seems the innovation stopped once Steve jobs died which is saddening for the company and consumers I think. Just my thought though :)

        • @ShamelessBargains:

True, but not like other companies have made any major jumps themselves. The only thing i can think of that apple really needs is waterproof.

        • +1

          @ShamelessBargains:

Almost everyone I know with a 5S uses it.

        • @imket: i'm not entirely on board with waterproofing, only because the major repair issue's are usually screens breaking and the more things they add the harder they become to repair (wife broke her lg g2 screen i took one look at youtube vid n said i'm not even atempting to fix it) … :)

i think most innovations will be through the OS going forward… :)

        • +2

@scud70: yeah I like the idea of waterproofing too. Seems apple is just following the trend of other smartphone makers and increasing the screen size and upping the specs. The continued integration in IOS8 is a bit daunting as they are really trying to lock you into their expensive ecosystem.

      • 'for the foreseeable future'? You obviously can't see very far.

    • -1

      19th of Sept announcement/release date…

      • +1

That's for the iPhone, iPads are later

        • +1

          9th Sept, not 19th

  • Good price!

      • +3

It definitely does have a retina display… Not sure where you got that idea from.

        • -2

You're right… It does seem to feature it, however.

The REAL LIMITATION in this cheap ver is the 16 GB
(reviewer says 12 GB is available to User).

          Some won't mind, of course.

Also, A7 is Dual-Core (per a reviewer), but fast.

      • "Do any apps going to"

        • haha

        • Are any [new] iPad apps going to need the Air's "Motion processor" (or other iPad Air specific features)?

(Others seem to be able to parse for the obvious meaning; but you are welcome to my "new & improved" rendering, above. ;-)

        • @IVI: pedometer apps of course!

  • cheaper than 20% off before :)

    • +1

Yes I believe it was $400 that time.

      • At least one reviewer says Android users don't any reason to learn iOS in the iPad Air.

        What'cha think…?

        • +1

At least one reviewer says Android users don't any reason to learn iOS in the iPad Air.

          What'cha think…?

That you need to work on your English.

    • +5

sajidmib, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

      • +19

        you understood that?

        • +1

Haha, that's why I am asking, why is he talking crap and gibberish.

    • +2

Unsure if you're comparing Apples to Lemons?

  • +2

Don't forget 2% cashrewards cashback or Qantas FF via Qantas shopping.

    • For once I actually remembered :)
780 points if going the qantas route
$7.80 if going the cashrewards route

      • How long does it take to track in the account?

        • 1-2 days, theoretically. Cashrewards seem to be all over the place in terms of tracking times, sometimes it'll only come up 4 or 5 days later. No idea with qantas online mall since this is the first time I'm using them.

        • @bangbang: thanks, the first time I used it, it didn't track, hopefully it does this time. But, from your comment should have gone the Qantas route.

        • The money is there for you to transfer to your bank account right after allowed goods returns period specified by shop in listing is over. Speaking from experience.

  • How does warranty work for this? Can take it apple store?

    • dont think u can take it to apple store. certainly can try.

    • +1

I'm pretty sure that iPads have a worldwide warranty? Just the iPhones that miss out, I think.

      • +1

Just the iPhones that miss out, I think.

        And iPads with Cellular connectivity.

      • +3

Apple has International warranty on Ipads where parts are available. Basically if you get a wifi ipad you are laughing as the parts are all universal except for the charger (big deal). If you get a celluar one and the bands are different here in Australia isn't the same then they don't have to fix it here, you would need to send it back.

"Where international service is available, Apple may repair or replace Apple Products and parts with comparable Apple Products and parts that comply with local standards."

        http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ios-warranty-re…

    • +1

      you can, there's global warranty

    • +2

How does warranty work for this? Can take it apple store?

Yes, any Apple Store - in any country. However, there is no two year Consumer Guarantee. Just the standard one year Apple Warrantee.

      • I'm in 2 minds on whether to go with this or wait for the new release and then go with a hopefully reduced Air with 2 years guarantee…

        • +1

Depends how juch the extra year is worth to you
I wouldnt think dse , OW etc would get down to this price…

The cheapest i know atm is wireless1 if you're in sydney would cost $499. Pricebeat at officeworks 5% and time it with an overseas travel you might get around the $430 mark .

Use it with price protection insurance from 28 degrees in case price drops below 475 but doubt it will from OW (could be wrong) or purchase with your citibank no annual fee credit card for additional 1 year warranty

        • @SmiTTy:

          • option to use Westpack Visa no annual fees Credit card to get extra two years warranty.
      • Thanks. I was thinking of getting the wifi one only for fathers day present. It seems it will work well.

      • -4

eGlobal has this for $465, so if you're worried about the 2 year warranty, then the additional $65 buys you peace of mind.

        • +4

Not exactly, they're both grey imports.

edit: just checked, you forgot shipping as well which makes it $494 minimum shipped.

        • I think it should be ok. The eBay listing mentions about Australian warranty

      • What's a "two year Consumer Guarantee"?

      • I had returned a Japanese Iphone at Australia Apple store, they will order a Japanese one from Japan and ship it over to Australia, free of charge, under warranty of course.

        • I had returned a Japanese Iphone at Australia Apple store, they will order a Japanese one from Japan and ship it over to Australia, free of charge, under warranty of course.

Just curious - what will you then do with your replacement iPhone? It is of little use here in Australia surely?

  • Any news on 32gb ?

    • +2

I would totally do at 32gb for 450

  • Can we use Amex 50$ off via Qantas shopping?

  • What's the price on its own website?Amex's kogan offer can't be used on ebay.

    • $479

Haven't really seen anything worth using the Amex discount on..

  • Nooooo I bought an iPad 4 for $400 from officeworks like two weeks ago! D:

  • +1

Love my iPad Air, it is super fast and works a treat. I use it as a consumption device mainly too. Also kogan is stocking the sony xperia z2 for $500 which is good buying too!

    • Hows it taste?

      • Lots of aluminium and the retina is rather delicious. The real question is will it blend?

  • i do love air….. deeeeeep breath

  • Great price

  • Whats a good price for the Mini 1st gen or 2nd gen?

    • From memory, the cheapest the 1st gen mini has been is $200 & that was from Kogan.

  • +2

I have an iPad Air yet I bought one just because it was cheap……

    why?

    • +1

      because you like eating apples?

  • +1

Even cheaper than the previous deal! ($400, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/150885)

  • Can annyone give me there thoughts should i get a ipad air or ipad mini to go along with my 13" macbook air ?

    • +1

I don't see a big advantage in having an iPad solely because you have a macbook unless you also use an iPhone and imessage is your main way of communication.

Furthermore, there's a difference in having a macbook and tablet (ie: not particularly complements in the sense you'll be using two at the same time or interchangable for the same task).

I would say get the air if you want simply because any typing will be done on your macbook saving you from getting a keyboard case and ruining the slim figure. (Note that the air this actually thicker than the Tab S)

I personally do not like the iPad mini as it seems too small (in comparison to 5" smart phones and the expected 8.9" Nexus)

      • do any of those have the apple symbol or apple written on it?….

      • Thanks for the reply

Im current using a Nexus 4 as my phone but going to upgrade to a HTC One M8 when they come down in price a bit , the main reason i was thinking of getting an ipad is for reading and for those times where i want to show someone something or watch a movie without having to get my laptop out and boot it

        • +3

Right right, I won't impose on your decision to get the HTC M8 but just to let you know, there are much better options and the phones to be released soon may sway your mind: note4, nexus shamu, etc

Make sure to think about storage space since you'll be adding texts and multimedia.
Android has greater options: SD support, OTG USB mount
          And supported media formats too.

        • @BanSlavery:

Won't be buying a new phone until I see the new ones get released

Also if you mean storage space on android thats sorted got some micro SD cards at the moment the nexus 4 I got is the 8gb model..so it will be good to upgrade (worst mistake getting the 8gb should have gone with 16gb)

        • @TheVoucherKing:
I mean storage on your tablet too! 16GB isn't much especially if you add on some movies and apps etc.

        • +1

          @BanSlavery:

Good point but 16gb should probably do the job for me :)

    • Since you have an iPad maxi, consider an iPad mini.
Or wait for a larger iPhone 6 instead of an iPad mini for better continuity.

    • +1

The macbook is About as relevant here as your sexual orientation. Go to a store play with both ipads and pick the one you are more comfortable with. That said you don't sound like you know why you're buying an ipad. Perhaps figure that out first.

  • I got iPad air last time from Kogan and it was a Japanese imported edition.

    • +3

But still designed in California, right?

    • I got iPad Air from Kogan last time as well, but it was Australian version.

  • +7

Wonder if they'll do another $500 MBA deal. My credit card is ready, Kogan.

    • Hmmm. What is this week's Ebay Sunday deal anyway?
