Might be worth noting that this only works for accounts that don't already have premium. I've already got premium and it just took me to the generic AU$11.99 page. Also, it's normally AU$11.99 (it's US$9.99 in the states).

    Edit: Congrats on 1000!

    • +9

      Thanks :)

      Here's to my 2000th deal

      • I didn't have a current subscription (having used the 2 credits from the 2 free months and unsubscribed) and I successfully subscribed with my existing account (that already has about 90 paid books in it).

        • Hah, and I got a $10 reward voucher for signing up for 4 months in a row :P

After I logged in it said Start Free 30-day trial but my 30-day already finished and back to basic at the moment.

    Where to enter the code?

    • +1

      spotify or audible

      • Spotify

        • code was for Audible, not spotify. Best to read deal description next time

        • -1

          @easternculture:

You didn't say that when I made this post yesterday.

        • +1

          @superforever:

It was all in the description. Look at revision history. I never mentioned their was a code for spotify. The code was in the audible part of the deal

        • -1

          @easternculture:

I think you may have forgot the first minute when you posted it the code was on the coupon code column. That is why I asked where to put the code.

Anyway doesn't matter if you refuse to say you did that.

        • +1

          @superforever:

yes, but that was for the second part of the deal, the Audible one.

Also Audible have a promo running of 3 months gold membership for $0.99 per month for new customers. Well worth the free audio-books than you can get and keep from the membership. Promo code 981209379088

Well Done EC! You are a Champignon!

    • +7

      Three cheers for French mushrooms!

  • Enter a valid zipcode!! It does not want my AU postcode, is this deal for US only?

Edit - I entered an US zipcode, it then said looks like you are using a Australasia issued credit card, would you like to switch to Australia, I then clicked yes, and completed the subscription for a 30-day premium free trial period.

But cant redeem the code! it does not work.

  • Wow! My premium expires tomorrow and I decided to be cheap and not renew. Definitely will use this, THANKS!

  • +1

Clicked on upgrade, and it just brought me to the $11.99 per month page, how did you get the promotion? (Spotify)

    • Same problem here. It's advertised on the main page, yet clicking on it in only gives me the option to sign up for the free 30 day trail and then $11.99 a month after it.

  • +1

    Congrats on achieving 1000.

  • Will be cutting off my subscription a day before it renews to take full advantage of this!

  • Spotify code didn't work for me - might be because I had already used the 30 day premium in the past

    • "Users who have subscribed to the Premium or Unlimited service or who have taken a trial are ineligible for this offer."

      • well that sucks

        • Dagnabbit, 2 days to go on my 30 day premium

  • +1

Hi easternculture. Is this for US Spotify? It rejected my Aussie credit card

  • +3

The $0.99 subscription is for US only, but the Australian spotify is offering buy 1 month get 2 months free.
Just go to spotify home page for the promo.

Sorry ec but have to revoke my positive vote if it's only for us

      • +1

US VPN and Favorite Las Vegas Hotel Address

        • +4

You still need to get a credit card thru though. I tried ANZ & HSBC, no luck

        • +1

          @Goldberg:

          worked with my citibank

        • @easternculture: no Citibank unfortunately. Great deal though. Congrats on your 1000th post though, keep it up, we love em!

        • @easternculture:

Which Citibank card? I tried Signature Visa and the clear Debit (I forget what it's called, the one for overseas). Also tried PayPal (various cards, all got picked up as Australian). Do I need a US address in my PayPal account?

And no ING Direct doesn't work either. Boy do I have a lot of cards

        • +1

          @Goldberg:
Sign up for a US virtual credit card at Entropay.com - preload it with as much or little credit as you like (say $5) - and use that. Takes 5 mins - easy peasy.
Its what I use for US NetFlix/Hulu.

Edit: if it requests a post code/suburb I suggest googling one in Oregon - no sales tax.

        • @systmworks:

Did you use a fake name on signup?

        • @systmworks: cheers for that, will look into it. It's funny, been with Netflix for 6 months on an Australian credit card. I guess they're just turning a blind eye…for now

        • @The Quote Train: No use your real name and other details with EntroPay, and I think the virtual credit card is supposed to be in the same name as the real card you use to fund it.

I use my real name on NetFlix/Hulu as well - only with the real/legal but virtual credit card from EntroPay, and a real (but not mine) post code/city/suburb.

        • @systmworks: Did this work for you? I'm on a US VPN with Entropay and Spotify checkout declines me citing that the card is issued in Malta (where Entropay is based)

        • @j13: create a new us paypal and link the entropay card. works ok

        • @morgs640: Thanks mate. Worked!

      • tarken pls

edit: anyone tried with an ING debit card?

    • Thanks, still a good deal

    • That has been posted previously https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/172260

    • does that work with current users?

  • +2

Well that put a big downer on the whole "1000th Deal" thing :D

  • It seems like the offer not valid in Australia… This offer only valid when you have US CreditCard & US Postal Code. Not a good deal i guess since Australia still offering only 30 days free trial & $11.99 afterwards.

  • I don't have Premium and this happened when I tried redeeming via gift card option:

Unfortunately this Premium code does not seem to be valid. Try again or contact customer service.

How did you guys get it? PayPal? I didnt see any redemption code section either?

  • "It appears that you are not eligible for the discounted product that you are trying to purchase. If you'd like you can still upgrade your account to premium at any time."

    Sigh…

" If you have have subscribed to the Premium or Unlimited service or have taken a 30-day free trial offer or 60-day free trial offer previously, you are ineligible for this 3-for-1 Trial Offer. You may also be ineligible for this 3-for-1 Trial Offer if you have taken other previous trial offers offered by Spotify. "

Easy - make a new account.

  • +4

Sign up for free spotify account
    Get adblock
Open spotify using your chrome or firefox whatever
Free music forever with no adds

Unless you want to download the application.. then get this deal lol

    • I find that playing by browser doesn't always show all of the songs in a very long playlist…

    • I think you will still get voice ads in the middle of music playing.

I use paid spotimote on my android tablet to control spotify in my HTPC so that I can turn off my TV screen.

Of course you still cannot get the high quality music.

  • Can use paypal, but I won't be able to use it on the go, away from my wifi network (VPN) might just grab the Aussie promo, that's still a good deal for 3 months.

  • Damn it! Just started the Google Play 3 month trial last week. lol

edit: no loss it appears… I've trialled the 30 day premium before.

    • +1

Apparently Google music etc is slightly better quality. Just saying…

  • Just used USA VPN. After entering my Oz Mastercard, and clicked Start Premium, the site said it looks like I am using an Ausrtalia CC and said I had to use same as account. Asked if i wanted to change to Australia, then it said 30 days free instead of 3 months for $0.99.

How do we get around this?

    • Just tried PayPal

      Same pop up:

It looks like you're using a card issued in Australia.
Your Spotify account must match the country of your payment method. Change account to Australia or use another card.

      CHANGE TO AUSTRALIA
      or
      Use a different credit card

      • +1

I believe that is because your Paypal address is Australian.

I got around this with a fake US residential paypal address and it works ok.

        • So i need to change my Paypal address to an fake USA one?

as I might just try the free version of spotify.

  • SHIT YEA

    Thanks :)

  • Great job with 1000!

  • +2

I'm still liking this deal better for Spotify Premium. Spotify Premium is a great service, good to support the artists and the future of music I reckon.

Congrats on your 1000th post, that is a pretty incredible feat! :)

    • What cut do you think artists get from the .99c contribution people will make for 3 months, agreed its a better amount than the pirate bay, but I doubt it pays the bills or supports the future of music.

      • I use Spotify (free version) to try out new music and then if I like the song or album, I am inclined to buy it on iTunes and further support the artist. Some artists like Taylor Swift pocket millions from Spotify royalties and with the continued growth of music streaming, I hope it will let the smaller artists pay their bills and continue to make fantastic music!

      • +1

The artists do not get anything directly, as the greedy music labels have sold their music as part of a catalogue, the artists get a very small amount from even old CD sales anyway. The best way to support an artist is at their concerts.

  • Sweet!

    So basically:

    • Create new Spotify acc w/ US address
    • Change Paypal acc to US address
    • Revert both changes after purchase

    Win no?

    P.S: Congrats!

    • +1

paypal will not allow you to add a US address from your profile any longer.

  • With the audible one - when it says new customer, can i just cancel the premium and sign up again using the new promo?
Whoops just tried it. Looks like the promo code for audible.com worked (my gold membership was due for renewal anyway…so cancelled it).

  • stackable?

  • 100+

  • Won't let me login to spotify on the website

    Login just times out

edit: direct login via the client seems to get around it

  • +3

sorry but waste of time. all 5 credit cards from my paypal rejected. no citibank cc.

  • Audible worked for me after I cancelled my subscription. Signed in claimed the code viola! 3 months for $1. Just need to remember to cancel in March.

  • +14

Unfortunately, a VPN and US address won't be enough to let you through. PayPal will not let you add a foreign address to your Australian card. PayPal will require you to go through security measures to even login while you are going through a VPN. Using a virtual card service like EntroPay requires fees. EntroPay has a minimum of $5, meaning you'll have about $4 left over that either goes to waste, or you have to find something to buy worth exactly that amount- no more, no less. Using EntroPay means this deal will actually cost you $6.45 AUD/$5.25 USD, not just $1.24 AUD/$0.99 USD. EntroPay registers its cards in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea- which Spotify is aware is not in the United States of America.

$6.45 and an hour of your time down the drain if you want to try.

    • Are you saying Spotify will reject an EntroPay payment?

      • +2

Yeah, I tried. It identifies the card is from Malta.

    • +2

Also, if you google Entropay the first page doesn't fill you with confidence.

  • +4

    125 upvotes, so few successful.

    • +4

they all Vote for eastern cultures 1000th post rather than his deal..

      • -1

        Which is BS.

  • Lucky had fam in the US who allowed my to use her card and gave me 99 cents!

Also had to create a new account. Couldnt use and upgrade my existing Aussie account

Without a US card, it would be quite hard to get this through though

  • Once signed up, do you need to use VPN to listen music or is VPN only required to sign up?

    • VPn or DNS changer only to sign up. Once signed up, then you dont need it anymore

There's more to just VPN though to sign up. You'll need a payment method that works for the States. If you're using an Aussie card, it will detect it.

  • I login to my Aus account and didn't let me buy it but give me option to do 30 days trial but I have already done it before is that mean I can trial it again?

    • You have to press change payment option and select change country to US. Then it shows $0.99 for 3 months

  • Congrats on the 1000 EC.

  • -1

no vpn is needed if you have a USA cc or paypal. thanks OP

    • Are you using a new account?

      • yes signed up for a new account

  • +1

Might be a good time to remind people of the rdio deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/153389
Lasts for longer than 3 months and is easier to get working.

    • Is it stackable (buy a few yrs worth of sub)?

      • You don't need to do that - it just works using an Aus CC.

  • +5

    welcome to USbargain?

  • Anyone try buy Spotify e-card online with US VPN and use the code to redeem it? May be e-card will let you use non US CC to buy.

    https://www.spotify.com/us/get-spotify/e-card/

  • +1

Well done posting 1000 deals. Would be nice if we could claim this in Aus without getting a foreign cc and fake address
