Free 30 Days Subscription for Netflix Australia

4511

Hi guys, as most you guys know Netflix is rolling its service to Australia today. They are offering a 30 day subscription for free as a free trial. Their normal rate starts at $8.99/month with a limit to 1 device per subscription. It goes up to $14.99 for their premium service with up to 4 devices that can play movies at the same time with ultra HD quality and more.

There are 3 types of subscription, basic, standard, and premium. You can try any of them for free. I am personally trying their premium service, as it is for free anyway. You will need your email address and credit card for the subscription(you won't get charged until your trial ends). Enjoy!

  • as if foxtel didnt have enough to worry about ….a free month …..they're done for.

    • +2

as if they are. can netflix stream all the EPL, NRL, NBA, AFL etc games live. Plus they have an app called foxtel GO which can stream onto tablets for free.

      • for $50 a month for sports channels ….i feel like this is going to give them a real kick in the ass that's needed

      • Well you still need a subscription.

Also for $50 doesn't get you the new release channels for shows like The Walking Dead. Fine for sport (well worth $10 for the HD IMO) but to get all the latest shows you're getting up to the $100 mark still.

    • I'm more worried about Stan - it's a pretty good service, but most users are still on free trial, and might cancel and go to Netflix before they make any money.

      • +1

exactly! i feel everyone who would use streaming services would know how big netflix is and make the transition now it's available

  • +1

Just clicked the comedy section…movies look way better and far more selection than Stan already!

    • +6

Because you're getting something that normally costs $9, for free.

How are you so arrogant, when you've been a member for 3 years, yet have never submitted a deal yourself?

      • -3

LOL at that being arrogance. Thanks for the insult.

What's the normal price? Oh it's 30 days free trial and then you pay. So what's the deal again?

Everything I've ever come across and thought worthwhile to post has already been posted after I searched. Perhaps I should just go around and post every free trial I can find? That would be helpful would it?

    • Because the thing which is always going to be available has only been available for 10 hours.

  • +2

this "deal" will have 1000 upvotes

  • Just to remind those people signing up to go for at least the standard or the premium deal because it is free for 30 days. You can always cancel or downgrade before the end of the month.

    • +5

FYI You can cancel immediately, you still get the remaining free period.

  • Does anyone know if this works on Roku?

  • My Sony65X9000B UHD 4K smart TV finally has some little usage. Although only macro polo and Housing of cards are in 4K

…and there goes my good intentions (haha) of doing some housework today :P

  • What I suppose to do with Netflix if I have only bullshit 200Gb limit with damned Telstra for 90$ … Anyway thank you for posting this.

    • Try it out and in the Netflix settings force SD quality. We find it quite acceptable and it's data usage is very low. We'd prefer HD of course, but it was chewing through data and like you we have a relatively low 250GB plan.

    • Check your account, you may have been upgraded to the 500GB plan as a bonus, many Telstra customer's have had their plans upgraded for free this last week or so.

      I'm now on 1TB cable :D

      • They didn't upgrade me, still on 200gb

        • Same, Still on 200GB Bigpond Cable. 500GB would be perfect for me as I already use Netflix US and HULU and we hit the 200GB cap often :(

      • I was also surprised that I was upgraded from 500 to 1000 on Telstra cable. Happy US Netflix user.

      • Any idea how or why you were upgraded? Do you have elite cable?

        • You have to be a long time customer with Telstra.

I think many people including myself were only eligible because they had a Telstra phone line for many years.

        • Got an email today, it seems, as mentioned, to be a loyalty thing, but I've only been on their cable and home phone for several months. Not complaining though.

        • Not sure, I am out of contract, about to hit 3 years from signing up.

Got an email saying thanks and bonus data!

Watch around 900 hours of netflix in SD? Or 70 hours in HD? https://help.netflix.com/en/node/87

Hit up the free trial, cancel immediately, use the full 30 days, don't look back :)

    • +2

Switch ISPs to a Telstra reseller that gives you more data for less $ on the same equipment…
Only 100Gb here and Netflix has been our source of "TV" for ages.. We've never run out of data, watch a few hours a night in HD.

What do you use your 200Gb/month on? And will you sustitute torrents that you formerly downloaded with Netflix?

    • Some ISP's are starting to do unmetered netflix. Switch to them if you can

  • is there any way to use a dozen of discounted telstra prepaid sim packs ($30 value loaded each) I have to subscribe to netflix?

  • Does anyone know if there are any Kdramas or Jdramas?

    • there's about 23 Kdrama/kmovies and about 17 or so jdrama/jmovies on US netflix. Not sure about AU. Crunchyroll anime sub now gets you a stack of drama series though

      • o fair enough. I guess ill just still tvpad it all the way with live kdrama and jdrama. and if I miss an ep i'll asian torrent it to me

  • subscribed for the free trials, but no walking dead, 24. damn!

love the other list so far!

  • Guys dumb question, but is Netflix like foxtel / normal TV where you watch whatever happens to be on at a certain time? Or is there a catalogue of movies and TV shows that you can choose from to watch in your own time?

  • Is there any program list (esp what serials, movies are on etc) ?

  • Glad it's unmetered on iiNet…3GB an hour for HD:

    • +6

Glad I'm on TPG unlimited, been on it for over 5 years. Cant imagine quotas on Internet, it's the 21st Century.

  • -4

Targeted marketing for people who has a credit card. They make a lot of money with people who forgets to cancel at the end of the free trial or they make it difficult to cancel and you end paying the first month anyway.

    • I wanna sign up but that's what im scared of lol .

      • +2

        Cancel instantly..

I signed up with paypal and cancelled straight after. Watching now.

    • That really could use some editing.

    • +1

Targeted marketing for people who has a credit card.

Of course it's for people with a credit card. There's no Netflix storefront where you plonk down cash, how else do you think they charge you?

    • Obvious troll is obvious.

  • +1

For people worried about quota limits, if you change your streaming device settings to output at 720p, Netflix will only stream at that rate. After a couple of months getting close to our 250gb limit, changed my apple tv to 720p (which is still a lot better looking than switching to a lower Netflix quality) and have effectively halved my downloads. The "Netflix 23.9" video is very handy for checking out download rates.

  • Just had a quick play with this. From some quick testing, it seems as though the catalogue mainly consists of things which are also available on UK Netflix. Props to Netflix for doing this, been a long time coming!

  • +2

    This is great thanks OP.
Will give Netflix a red hot go and burn a hole in my Optus unlimited 3G $2 days deal.

  • I am trying to sign up but keep gettingthis error

Sorry, we are unable to complete the sign-up process now. Please try again later.

  • Help me with technical answer
I am with Internode NBN so Netflix quota wont be counted. Now I have set Getflix DNS config to my router to use lot of other services (Hulu, Dishworld etc) through Roku. Do I need to reset DNS config to internode default to use Netflix as quota free or is there any otherway for that?

    • I'm guessing you'll need to disable GetFlix (remove router DNS config), although I guess you could watch an hour of TV and see whether the downloads end up being in your unmetered data allowance. I suspect it will count as data but…my Xbox Live connection never ends up being unmetered while I have GetFlix active.

The alternative option if you have two streaming devices is to remove the configuration from the router itself and instead configure one device for GetFlix (any US service) and leave the other with the stock standard DNS settings and use that for Netflix.

    • Ask Getflix if changing your Netflix region to Australia will mean it'll use the Internode's DNS entries. otherwise can you just untick Netflix in your GetFlix settings?

Alternatively if you can switch region to Australia, then do so & check your usage after a few days, you should know by then.

    • You don't want to turn your DNS off, the US netflix has so much more content.

    • Getflix only pushes your login through the US or other country, then your data goes directly from your device to the nearest CDN server, in Australia.

Do you cancel by calling netflix or via the website?

    • It would be nicer to provide an answer rather than neg.

      • +1

        yeah everyone's a little neg-trigger happy today!

Others have mentioned that they signed up a recurring subscription using paypal, then cancelled it within paypal. In theory Netflix will continue until the next month & will auto-cancel when the payment fails.

But otherwise I believe you can just cancel via their website (but that will most likely cancel the service too).

      • -1

It would be nice if you had the common sense to spend 5 seconds on their website to see this. Clearly it is done on the website. Do you think $9AUD per month includes phone support? lol.

        • +4

well they do have a 1800# to call, so it obviously does, but you'd know that if you visited the website :-P
          It's 1800 071 578

          But from the FAQ

How does the Free Trial work?
Try us free for 1 month! You'll be able to instantly watch unlimited movies and TV episodes over the Internet on your TV via a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, or any other Netflix enabled device. You can also watch instantly on your computer!

If you enjoy your Netflix trial, do nothing at the end of your trial and your membership will automatically continue for as long as you choose to remain a member. Netflix membership is a month-to-month subscription which begins at sign-up. You can easily cancel anytime, online, 24 hours a day. There are no long-term contracts or cancellation fees. Just sign up to get started!

        • +1

Thanks for coming forward. Now do this

        • +1

@supabrudda: Yeah probably should have looked at the website. Thanks for the helpful info.

  • +2

I got Stan for Better Call Saul. Will probably cancel when the season's over, and start again next season.

This catalogue is no better than Stan's.

    • Don't forget community.

    • I read someone comment on this deal (or possibly the uFlex deal) that Better Call Saul is on the UK Netflix library. So GetFlix or another DNS provider would be cheaper than staying with Stan.

  • Do they charge afterwards or they will ask you or the credit card detail you put in only for authorize?

    • you need to provide a CC/paypal when signing up for the free trial.

      • so they will automatically charge after one month without your permission?

        • +2

No, they get your permission when you sign up (for the free trial) & hand over your CC/paypal details. Nothing tricky or deceptive.

If you don't want them charging you, you either don't sign up, or you do & cancel before the 30 days is up.

        • +1

          @supabrudda: Can I cancel 29 days in advance ?

        • +3

@SrMoure: Yes. You "prepay" (or get a month free) for the month in advance.
Cancelled mine and it ends at the date it would normally renew. Could watch it between when I cancelled the renewal and when the paid period was up.

      Cheers for the link!
They always start off with much less content then the other regions & slowly build it up as they acquire right going forward, They have said they're interested in acquiring global rights to content as a preference.

  • The best part for me is that the Netflix app is now available on Samsung Smart TVs set to the Australian region.

We can watch catch-up TV now through our regular streaming services, and still sign in through our US Netflix accounts in the app.

  • +3

Netflix coming to Australia has truly got me feeling as a part of something global :) (even though it was availble through VPN earlier, its not the same as watching it worry free through ATV, my fetch box, on the iPhone, laptop without hola, smart tv, chromecast, and many more devices)

This and Tesla's coming to Australia is super exciting for this tech geek in OZ, felt so neglected for so long!

F*** people who can stream 4k fine. I'm on adsl and I get 3mbps and can only stream 720p. I'm so jealous of u guys that have cable or even the bullshit NBN

    • +6
    • +1

ok, if I throttle my unlimited 100Mb cable back to say 50Mb, will that help?

Seriously I'd be interested to see how many people can stream 4k vids & if there's any issues.

    • +1

Almost nobody can stream 4k because they don't have a specific 4k TV that netflix requires you to have.

  • -1

Where is the bargain? This is their normal pricing model.

    • +5

Free month is the bargain bra

  • Can I turn on subtitles in movies?

    • +2

      appears to be yes
