I was about to post this deal…good Work..Great Price !!

    • +1

got the misses one…too good to be true though…Apple rarely discounts this much. They control the market.

The Good Guys, harvey norman, JB Hifi all up around the $1,150 mark

      • got the misses one…

Wow! I guess you already have one?

too good to be true though…

Correct. It will be a private import from HK or USA. Catch would not risk importing these themselves and reselling from Melbourne.

Apple rarely discounts this much. They control the market.

Again correct. If the statements on, and content of, the description page were true - Apple would match that price and OfficeWorks would beat it by 5%.

      • +1

        They control the market.

        Yeah, it's called price fixing.
I have no idea how they get away with this year after year after year.

        • +2

Seriously who pays even 900 bucks for a phone these days

People buy when they see value in the purchase. That's how capitalism has worked for thousands of years.

        • @AlexF:

when they see value in the purchase

This statement only further shows that they are sheep to think that this is value.

Seriously people only buy it because they dont know any better

If they were fully educated about the range of products, they would realise that android phones are better value

But alot of existing customers are locked into the ios ecosystem particularly with the itunes store. so they dont bother looking elsewhere

This does not mean that Apple devices are amazing because everyone else buys them

The majority doesnt make it a fact

        • +3

@furythree: I'm no fan of Apple (never bought or used any of their products) but I feel irritated because users of Apple are being called by such bad names all the time. How can you be so sure that "android phones are better value" than iPhones? How can you know "people only buy it because they dont know any better"? How can you assume that iPhone users are not "fully educated about the range of products"?

Only iPhones and Android phones are worth to mention? How about Windows, BlackBerry and other phones that use different OSes?

If people are "fully educated", they can buy whatever they want. As long as the stuff serves the purpose people want and it doesn't affect someone else life in a bad way, I can't see the reason why they shouldn't go for it. There's no need to bash one's choice because theirs are not like yours.

        • @721411:
maybe you should read more carefully

i pretty much covered POSSIBLE scenarios of why people buy certain phones

The incorrect assumption is to deal in absolutes

Either way the cost price of these things are in the $400-500 mark. So $1000+ for a phone is (profanity) ridiculous

Youd need to have some pretty specialised needs that only an iphone can give you to suggest that people would buy it to suit their needs. Since every other phone manufacturer has a product that achieves the same purpose

if its not hardware related need, then software is easily available to cater for it, and believe me that there is alot more software flexibility on Android than on iOS.

People are free to buy whatever they want. Thats why they can jump on this deal all they want. Doesnt make them any less fools

A fool and their money are soon departed

    • you reckon they'll milk this and release the 6S?

      • +8

they'll make more cash if they release a new one…all those idiots you see in the news lining up will sure be there again even if it the exact same phone but different name ;)

        You can't handle the truth.

      • +5

Or get an S6 which is miles ahead of the iPhone.

Look they are different SmartPhones with different 'operating systems'.

One might as well say that the Mi4i is miles ahead of both (and costs just around AU260).

        http://www.mi.com/en/

        • That does look nice for the price. :)

        • Qualcomm
          Snapdragon 615

      • +3

So far ahead they had to take out the SD card slot and removable battery cover just to let Apple catch up.

  • -1

seems OK, looking all over the site to see if its a refurb or something silly like that.

hate to admit it as I dont like iphones, but this is a decent deal. up voting an Apple product noooo.

    • +3

After a few years of android we bought a 6plus recently as its always good to test out the competition.

After two days my wife utterly hated it, and asked if I wanted it.

The thought of a large phone with no back button didnt exactly appeal to me, especially when the on screen back buttons seems to appear in different places on different apple aps. (for the most part the back buttons appear at the top of the screen?!)

Bought two s6's instead and am loving them so far

Perhaps we are biased as we are quite heavy users in terms of launchers, modulation etc but my god, I really felt like the iphone is years behind the times in terms of usability and function.

Aesthetically the iphone is nice, and the camera is good (though the S6 surpasses imo) but to anyone thinking of trying it out who is happy with android, I wouldn't recommend it.

      • +4

I think you hit the nail on the head there. Android is to iOS as Windows is to OS X. Android / Windows users like to fiddle with the OS. iOS / OS X users generally just like to get things done. That's not a slight on either. I used to like to tinker and change things.

      • +2

Most apps you simply swipe on the screen (left to right) to go back to the previous screen.
You don't have to use the back button, which usually appears in the top corner.

Having both a Note 3 (work) and iPhone (personal) I loathe the physical back button. Too easy to accidentally press it.

        • +1

I can't say I've ever accidentally pressed the back button in 6 years of owning Android phones. Yes, sometimes it's a swipe, sometimes the swipe is used within that screen for another function. Swiping left and right intuitively mean going through screens on the same level (like a photo stream), not going up a level (although it can be used for that, but that's confusing). The back button intuitively means going to the screen you were at before, regardless of level. And sometimes it's a button in the top left corner, sometimes it's somewhere else.

I just hit the back button.

It's also handy for going back to the app that launched the app you're in, and the one before that, which you can't do on iOS (have to go through the multitasking menu).

        • +1

Don't think I've ever picked up an Iphone and not been frustrated by the lack of a back button.

  • +4

really $900 clams for a smartphone these days….

    • +2

      Those sound like expensive clams.

    • smart phones for dumb people

      • +1

but some people claim Android phones are easier to use than iPhones?
Does this mean Android phones are the smart phone for even dumber people?

      • +3

If you look at the demographics that just doesn't wash. iPhone users tend to be far more likely to have a degree and be in higher earnings bracket. Does having a degree necessarily mean you are smarter?? That's debatable as there is a difference between innate "Smarts" and having skills or knowledge about a particular topic (there are perhaps a lot of lacklustre brains with degrees).

However, Android does tend to be more attractive to those in IT which makes a lot of sense as these type of people tend to like to tinker with stuff.

        http://www.forbes.com/sites/toddhixon/2014/04/10/what-kind-o…

Personally I have an iphone as my primary, no degree but I'm the in design field. I also have an Android phone to play around with. I do think iPhone is way overpriced and hence have never paid anywhere near to full price for one (iphone 5 purchased secondhand for $100).

I still prefer the range and quality of apps on iOS, but the operating system is far more fun to play with on Android.

        • +1

People in higher earnings brackets are more likely to be concerned about material things, and being judged on them, don't you think? I see a lost of wealthy people with D+G, Calvin Klein, on their T-shirts and I'm going to come right out and say that the quality of the shirt itself is no better than some $50 T-shirts.

People with degrees tend to have more money, people with more money tend to be more conscious of being judged on their material possessions.

        • @dazweeja:

Very much agree, although it doesn't really change the fact that the majority of iPhone owners are not "dumb people" as per the original poster's argument. There is a definite status thing going on with a lot of iPhone owners though.

There is a difference between someone who is just generally "dumb" as opposed to someone who is willing to waste money on material goods purely for the brand name and associated status.

Being concerned about material things is not just something associated with those on higher incomes though, plenty of poorer people strive to give the appearance of status, otherwise you wouldn't have people buying knock off clothing labels/ watch brands etc purely because it gives the illusion of wealth. Then there are the wealthy people who couldnt give a shit about their outward appearance and just appear to be working class.

When it comes to quality the tshirt thing you mentioned is a good one, you reach a point where the quality cant really get a lot better within a price point but the label then takes the pricing to ridiculous heights.

    • Every time someone posts an Apple iPhone deal someone complains about how expensive it is. And yet it continues to be voted upon expentionally highly

      • +1

that's why Tony Abbott is in power.

  • Any catches?

    • +4

      Only catch of the day.

    • +1

      Any catches?

False and misleading information on the web site item page, I believe.

  • +18

Why are ozbarginers buying a $899 phone?

    • +1

The most expensive price for a current gen smartphone is actually $1079, posted on Ozbargain. And it's a Samsung.

Samsung is now the Apple of Android phones.

      • +5

Still quite a catch up to do though. An equivalent iPhone 6 Plus 64GB would be ~$1299 without a bonus smartwatch.

        • Where is the bonus smartwatch deal?

        • @asa79:

Where is the bonus smartwatch deal?

I think at Dick Smith Electronics?

        • +1

          @asa79: from this deal (DickSmith).

        • -1

@scotty: Thats not an iPhone, its a Samsung

        • +2

@asa79: that's what I have replied — iPhone 6 Plus is more expensive and without the smart watch, so Samsung still has catch up to do in the pricing department.

        • +1

@scotty: I see what you did there scotty :D

    • I'll stick with my Oneplus One haha

    • $908.99 phone, yet I still so many people dropped it carelessly on the train floor/ concrete on the street with no bumper case … like it was $100ish value phone.. sigh… these 6's series are all overpriced, Samsung & Apple that is. $900 for a phone??

      • +3

Just dropped my beloved $29 Nokia Lumia 530 (Telstra) on the footpath when I was biking home two days ago. Back cover, battery and phone scattered on the ground and I thought it was gone. I tried to assemble all the parts then turned on my phone. It worked like nothing'd happened. Thanks to the glass screen protector and the leather wallet case I bought from eBay, my phone survived the drop. Only some minor scratches on two bottom corners and some on the screen protector, the phone works normally!

        Long live Nokia!

    • +3

Being an ozbargainer doesn't mean you dont have money, just that you dont like paying full price.

  • +4

Unbelievable. This phone is $245 cheaper than the Galaxy S6 64Gb.

    • +15

but about $500 more than the oneplus one which is also 64gb

      • +63

but about $870 more than a 64gb usb drive which is also 64gb

        • +1

how many phone calls and selfies can you take on a usb stick ?

        • none?

        • @ShinjukuJR:
Suppose the selfie is 5mb, so about 12,000 selfie on the 64gb usb stick, anyway you can store more selfie on the usb stick than on the phone, as they dont use any system memory.

      • Does oneplus have a store you can take the phone when it had issues so they can replace it right there and then for you?

        • +11

No, if it's faulty and you're in a hurry you just buy another one and you're still ahead!
And if you have to wait for delivery then just buy a cheap Android for the meantime. And guess what… still ahead!

        • Actually I found out just now that some AU sellers are selling oneplus one on ebay..which means they are bound by the ACL to provide warranty if things go wrong. Most likely they will send the faulty unit back to China and potentially it will take a considerable amount of time..however if the warranty service they provide falls below the australian standard regarding the repair time or whatever, I suspect that they are also likely to be obliged to make things right for you in compliance to the ACL by offer alternatives like replacement, refund etc. I could be wrong though, please correct me if anyone believes that's the case.

        • Yeah you can order another one.

        • @maolin95: Pretty sure Australian consumer laws don't cover private auctions.

    • +1

      Maybe because it's on sale.

Damn that on sale product is cheaper than it's competitor that's not on sale.

    • Not quite

Samsung are still offering 10% and free delivery bringing the total price to $1,034 for the 64gb standard S6 so $124 dearer including postage.

Still an obscene amount of money for a phone whether its $900 or $1,034 though.

  • Now that's a deal!

  • +15

The after care from Apple is something every company on Earth needs to replicate. If anyone has ever had a broken phone, they will know how much of a pain in the butt it is to get it repaired and fixed. A tradie was working at my house yesterday when his iphone 5 broke — battery dead. He called Apple, they diagnosed his phone remotely and said the battery was dead. They told him to take it into an Apple store and they would replace it immediately. He previously had a HTC and waited weeks to get it fixed.

    • +10

Takes me 23 seconds to swap the battery out of my old Samsung

      • +4

You cant swap battery in Samsung S6
You cant get same day replacement for any android phone, maybe a loaner phone if you pay for insurance

        • +1

My android phone doesnt die and need replacements in the first place

Apple is notorious for planned obsolescence

Just google "Apple ipod battery planned obsolescence"

        • +1

@furythree: so your android has some special type of battery

        • -1

          @asa79:
yeah one not commissioned by apple

    • +2

I had a HTC One M7, was replaced within 2 days by Telstra store. Doubt Apple would have been able to do any better where I live, since there's no Apple stores. Probably be better if I lived in a capital city. I have a Note 4 now, it work out costing me around $550 by the time I claimed back GST. It's really hard justify paying so much extra for a slightly better service in the unlikely event if my phone happens to have issues later on. And also the Y550 is such a good back up phone, that I wouldn't even be concerned in the slightest being without my note 4 for several weeks. Actually phones like the Y550 make me question whether not it's worth investing $500 or $600 into smart phone's anymore.

      • This to a T. Work has a set list of available phones and must buy from Optus, but I would have saved them about 400 bucks if they let me get the phone I wanted instead of the phone they were contracted to give me (an m7 since I didn't want an iPhone)

  • +10

I am hereby claiming that Catch Of The Day are lying.

These will NOT be Australian Market iPhones.

    • +1

I beleive you will be correct.

      • Look I know I posted this deal but I'm inclined to think it's grey… Even though they say Australian Stock… On the COTD website they say dispatch after 7-9 days which is enough time to haul it across from another country and post to us… I've PDF'ed the necessary docs should the sh!t hit the fan with legitimacy…

        • +1

This product is ready to ship from our North Melbourne warehouse.

          Lying?

Maybe it's supposed to say (very) North of Melbourne? ;)

        • @McFly:

"This product is ready to ship from our North Melbourne warehouse."

          Lying?

Most probably. Just as the rest of the description is probably lies - Model Number, Apple Warranty, Apple Australia Stock, etc.

If not, it would be a great bargain AND one could price match as Apple and other stores AND price beat by 5% at OfficeWorks.

It would be great if COTD tell OfficeWorks that it is all true and correct.

I don't know if this helps or not. I sent them this question:-

"Does this phone come with a Tax Invoice from Catch of the Day - So I can claim the GST back at the airport when I leave the country in a few weeks time?"

          This was their reply:-

"Thanks for writing in to us. I understand that you want to know more details about the GST.

Please be advised that all tax invoices are available for our customers to view and download via your account, and that these invoices specify how much GST was paid.

Have a great day and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us."

They are being so evasive, that I guess that the only way we will know for sure is after you receive the phone and check the Part Number and the AC Charger included.

        • @A3Australia: I don't think they are being evasive - they talked about tax invoices and GST.
All the invoices I've had from them are proper tax invoices - can't see why this would be any different, even if they do get their stock 'elsewhere.'

        • @McFly:

I don't think they are being evasive

          1) I asked about the iPhone 6 64GB. They avoided mentioning the item.
          2) I asked if the iPhone comes withh a Tax Invoice. They avoided answering my question.
          3) I asked if I could claim back the GST. They avoided answering my question.
          They are being evasive.

          • they talked about tax invoices and GST.

In general, yes. However, they avoided stating that GST would be collected for the iPhones.

All the invoices I've had from them are proper tax invoices - can't see why this would be any different, even if they do get their stock 'elsewhere.'

This stock may not be their stock. We don't know. This stock may be being sent from outside Australia. We don't know. There may be a Tax Invoice issued for these iPhones. We don't know. As COTD are evading answering the questions.

If they do issue a Taz Invoice, the GST component should be $81.73

      • With the aussie dollar being craptastic in value why wouldn't this be aussie stock? Not that i trust COD in any way just don't see the value they would have gotten from sourcing overseas.

        • +2

          Ummm… Iphones aren't made here…

    • +1

      Model: iPhone 6 (MG4F2X/A)
      Unlocked and Australian Apple stock

If they do sell MG4F2X/A, it is AU model.

E.g. 64gb black Hongkong model number is MG4F2P/A.
      This is what Kogan sells.

    • +9

Australian launch prices for the iPhone 6 were $869, $999 & $1129. You obviously have a 16GB model?

      • -4

I purchased a 64GB Grey from BigW and paid with gift cards which already discounted

        • Big W still had 64gb for $999 last i saw

      • -3

$998 was the sale price but the gift cards I got back then was worth $2500 (paid 5% less), so got the phone for almost $900 and the rest were used for gtoceries and fuel

        • +16

          No one cares, you're still a rapist!!1

        • Pity the Australian dollar has fluctuated since then resulting in higher prices for Apple products in Australia. Still that 5% discount is now about a 15% one with the price hikes.

        • +2

          5% off $998 is only $49.90.

So you paid $948.10 for your phone

Still a good $40 more than this deal.

  • -3

Also, you can easily grab one for cheaper than RRP or closer to this price on Gumtree and iiNet, check it out

    • I'm not going to switch ISP just to open one website about trees. thanks but no thanks.
