I have 2 months of free Spotify.

I wonder if Apple music will have chromecast support. I never realised Spotify never had chromecast support. I know Spoticast allows Spotify to connect to chromecast.

Slo20 it will support Android too.

    • +1

Pandora is good if you want to use chrome cast

      • I get "paid-experience" Pandora for nothing due to them somehow not being able to lock down a completely server based product (like … how?) and whilst I like it for free I wouldn't pay for it. But that said it's more akin to an ad and talk free radio experience than anything else, rather different to Spotify and presumably apple music.

    • +6

Mix Radio is good too… and it's free, 100%. Downloadable playlists (for offline listening, free… so basically, Spotify Premium, for free

      I use Mix Radio.

      • +3

never heard of this.i will give it a try. thanks.

    • +3

Apple is a walled garden, they'd never support Chromecast.

    Mm dat premium quality!

  • TA, i had to agree with your above comment as others have posted similar deals.

  • +1

I hope there's a way you can pay for the US version (i use paypal for spotify US), they always get a way better selection due to copyright nonsense

    • Does spotify work like netflix, where you can use your AU account to access the US version with a VPN, or is it like PSN where you have to use a US billing address/CC?

      • +1

I used a fake US address to sign up for the US paypal, which i was able to link my AU CC to. I then used that US paypal account to pay for spotify US, which gives me access to the US library internationally without need for VPN. Technically this should work for any US service that you can use paypal for, so if you can pay for PSN through paypal then it should work.

  • i wonder if it will be good like spotify

  • +3

"You get access to the full Apple Music library" does that mean every song that is on iTunes? Or is it a select amount of songs licensed for this service?

    • +3

Apparently they really are trying to get everything on iTunes on here, though record companies might have other plan. Still, WSJ puts their library at 37m tracks vs 30m on Spotify.

      • Cool, looking forward to this.
Most of the stuff I would want to hear would be things I can't hear elsewhere so I hope there is some lesser known music available.

  • +1

TA, how much is it gonna cost after the 3 month trial?

    • USD $10 per month. WE WILL BE AEOUND AU $14.

      • +6

        wtf no thanks

        • +3

Yea I'd rather keep the AU$14 and spend it on a new album every month or on netflix.

$14 is too much and I mostly listen to the same music anyway.

        • +1

@Lenneth: If you mostly listen to the same music I don't think subscribing to any music exploration service is worthwhile. Just stick to the free offerings like Mix Radio by Nokia.

        • -1

          @Lenneth:

          It's Apple,what else do you expect ?

        • @Agret:

Just trying them out. Not bad for something that is free. Thanks! :D

I don't mind finding new music. It's just that I can't stand most new music. haha

  • Save for offline listening

So does this mean they're going back to DRM? For the "radio" music at least I am guessing.

    • +1

      It does.

  • Thanks Bro.

  • +2

Won't work with Sonos unless you have a connect with airplay, will be sticking with Spotify.

  • +2

how can they release a subscription with a few month free without releasing the price. (I know US price but they havent released Aus price).
I a company allowed to do that - sign people to a paid service without saying the price?

edit - I just checked it isn't available for Australia yet - Coming Soon.

    • +3

There was an article I was reading claiming it was going to be $12 like spotify. Although this is just pure speculation. They will probably blame it on the Aussie dollar and charge $15 a month and get away with it.

  • +5

    What bitrate?

    • +2

Exactly, regardless of what people say on a high end system there is a massive difference in quality. I assume it will be like itunes :/

      • +2

And regardless of what people say double blind tests say otherwise :p

    • -1

256kbps but it's AAC, which is higher quality than 320kbps MP3.

      • It's not 'higher quality'. If anything, it's (arguably) transparent, like the full CBR mp3, so you won't hear a difference.

  • -8

Not a deal…. Free trials are not deals.

    • +2

      LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE

  • +3

A better bargain: Google Opinion Rewards + Google Play Music. Google Music would average out as $4p/m on what I've made through the surveys.

    • +1

That's actually a really good idea.

I personally just can't move away from Spotify for some reason… I think I'll take up this 3 months free though, that's like a $30+ saving on my Spotify bill for that time.

    • +1

Swapped from Spotify for this very reason, Chromecast support obviously helped too. Wouldn't really call this a deal though.

    • How long have you had it running? From the review it seems that some people only get 1 survey through out weeks.

    • I wish Google Opinion Rewards was on iOS

  • -1

Apple music doesn't offer anything new or exciting over other platforms currently available, pass.

    • +4

You haven't used it, so how do you know?

      • Because I've gone over the announced features and have come to my conclusion. They aren't going to hide anything important when they have a bunch of big names to compete against.

  • I use rhapsody unRadio which is $US4.99.
Absoluly love streaming I stopped buying tracks 4 years ago streaming offers more choices and I discover new artists all the time through streaming.

    • +1

I've used Pandora radio for a few years now, for a while they seemed to give up on adverts, which was awesome. I haven't bought a CD or a newspaper for a over a decade.

  • +1

Are you able to buy monthly subscriptions to Google Music using Telstra prepaid credit like you can with movie rentals? Could make it very cheap.

    • You should be able to use iTunes credit which means usually 20% off the sticker price

  • I am assuming this will just be charged to your iTunes account once the 3 months is over, which means using any iTunes credit before hitting your bank account / credit card, so…… Buy up multiple iTunes cards when they are on a good special and load up your iTunes account with credit :)

At least then you'd have e.g $100 credit that you only paid $80 for (assuming 20%) etc. Extra $20 savings.

  • mmmm my 3 months of play music is expiring soon…… perfect timing :P

  • News have emerged that Android apple music customers will have no free trial zero Nada pay up or go elsewhere.

    https://au.news.yahoo.com/video/watch/28390418/sorry-android…

    • +1

Doesn't mention no free trial for Android. Your link is referring to the 'always free' membership option with limited features.

  • Interesting to see the Australan pricing model, too much to hope for a reasonable price? Thanks TA

  • Is this deal live yet? @tightarse

  • I tried to sign up to Apple Music and it said I had insufficient funds… Someone needs to update the post to say that you either need a CC available on sign up to trial

  • This deal is now live. I am using Apple Music now, and it is pretty neat. Huge library.. feels like iTunes to me.

Best part is you can send your "outsourced" music to the iCloud and it comes up on your other iDevices auto-insta-magically.

  • Took me forever to figure out the way to launch Apple Music is to click the "For You" tab of iTunes.
It kept asking me to download iTunes on my browser even though I had it installed already.
