      • Maybe I used the wrong option but I tried the "System Update" app that was pre-installed. It said there were no new versions available even though there was the new version on the website I posted above.

        • +1

I think the first firmware update enables OTA updates, so the initial update will have to be done manually.

  • +1

Mine is still saying processing. ordered on the 14th july.

    • mine says the same…. i've sent a pm to the rep.

    • Product became presale not long after this deal was posted as all the 500 units had been sold and the additional 270 in the second batch. 3rd batch ships on the 18th.

  • Having trouble doing the firmware update. Im' using Windows 8.1 x64. Drivers installed OK.
The instructions included from Tronsmart are crap. They say to hold the reset pin and connect the power adapter - what they actually mean is to hold the reset pin (power already connected) and turn the device on. Tronsmart doesn't even say that the device needs to be connected to a TV for the update).

I tried following these instructions from freaktab http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rk3688-devices-a… and it got me further than where Tronsmart got me - I was able to see a boot recovery screen. Here I selected the "Boot into bootloader" option but after this nothing happens. The tv screen goes blank, device stays on (blue LED). Firmware update tool on PC doesn't detect the device. Saw on freaktab that you need to push the power button once at this stage, this also did nothing. Any ideas?

    • +1

Same experience for me on Win 7. Out of ideas…

Solved: trick is don't read their guide. Run the Driver Assistant -> driverinstall.exe first and then do the pin in hole restart and it will do everything automatically. If it goes to the menu to select something it hasn't done it correctly.

    • I got it done by using a different cable. That's all it was. With my old cable no new hardware was being detected by windows. Hopefully all future updates can be OTA.

  • Does anyone have something which sounds lose inside their device? I've got something unfixed and ratling inside, sounds like a small screw or something.

  • +1

For those interested in a new Rom for the R68
    http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rk3688-devices-a…

  • I've installed Droidmote Server on my R68 with the Droidmote client on my Android smartphone to act as a remote control. I'm now looking for an app to stream the audio from my R68 to my smartphone (with headphones) so I can watch movies etc without disturbing my other half. I could buy wireless headphones but that would be too easy :-)
Does anybody know of an app that would do this kind of thing?

    • Check out SoundWire. I haven't used it myself - just seen it mentioned occasionally.

The issue with streaming audio is getting it synchronised to the video. Network latency and processing aren't your friends.

      • +1

Soundwire is for streaming audio from a PC. localcast has a audio routing option but so far I haven't gotten it to work on my phone.

        • Ahhhh dang it. Thanks.

My humble apologies for the error.

See, this is what happens when I just glance over stuff written in forums… and why I can't have nice things.

    • I was having some problems with the factory firmware (old and latest update). I've now switched to this custom ROM by abdul_pt and the device works as intended.

      • What do you mean when you say it works as intended?

        • +1

I intended to use it as a media player that supported 1080p display and didn't crash on some of my common file formats. I can now finally do that.

        • @badarz: oh ok. Was hoping that it meant you got all kinds of apps working. Like netflix

  • still waiting….sigh

    • The gigabit batch ships out from the 18th, so tomorrow.

      • +2

        I know it's just annoying :(

      • How do we know if we are in the second batch or will all remaining orders be sent today?

        • Second batch shipped a couple weeks back, so you will be the batch sent from today.

        • @Clear:

          I really hope so.
1 month is a really long time

        • @thorpef1: Yup, presales can be like that. This happened when the PiPo X7 was released last year. Geekbuying and other sites ordered 500-1000pcs and thanks to a factory shortage PiPo only gave them 200. Next time GB does something like this they'll put a stock count on… I hope :)

        • @Clear: Well it would be nice of them to finally do this….

But as this promotion was done injunction with Tronsmart, it's not all geekbuying's fault…..

        • Was second batch the gigabit as well?

        • @Clear:

so my order status is "Payment Confirmed(Processing) "

Im assuming this doesnt mean shipped

        • @suudo: No, but this batch is.

        • @thorpef1: Correct.

        • +1

          @Clear:

So my order still hasn't shipped after over a month.

          Give me my money back.
          This is an absolute joke

        • @thorpef1: Then go ask Geekbuying for a refund. They can't deliver a product that has been set to presale for a month because Tronsmart couldn't provide enough units.

      • yay, hope mine ships soon. seems like forever ago

    • Me too
      Better ship express tomorrow

  • +1

My R68 Meta arrived today at the office. Will try it when I get home this evening.

    • Mine arrived today.. I dont want to open it until theres a fix for Netflix. Otherwise ill sell it.

      • +3

Netflix support has been added to the wasser firmware. (http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rk3688-devices-a…)

        • Thanks heaps for the update shiznit. Glad to know that someone has got netflix support working. Might give Tronsmart a couple more weeks to see if they can get their firmware working otherwise Im moving to the Wasser Firmware!

        • No worries. Just take note that a lot of people are having issues getting it to boot on the pro. Seems to be working fine on the meta though.

  • Well it's the 19th now and doesn't look like my unit has shipped. Any other known delays?

    • They said the 18th, but didn't say the year. Here's hope we get it by this time next year

      • How long do we have to lodge dispute with paypal?

I think I will wait until the last day and if it hasn't shipped by then ask for a refund.

        • 180 days now, I think. So you've got plenty of time.

          From: https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full#…

S12.1 You may be eligible for the PayPal Buyer Protection Policy if all the following requirements are met:

    • Same here, no luck, I have been waiting since 14 july. This is what I get some hours ago from their support, looks like it's not going to ship anytime soon. Anyone else got responses from geekbuying?

      • I think one more week is all I will give them then its time to cancel.

  • +5

Alright I found out more information… I'm sure a lot of you will blame it on Geekbuying or say not again…

Tronsmart decided to delay the order due to finding a glitch during quality control. Geekbuying is then going to get the pieces by the 22nd and will have all orders shipped by the next weekend. If you don't want to wait then feel free to contact Geekbuying to cancel and get a refund. If you run into any troubles trying to get a refund then PM me your order number and I'll get it sorted. I've already successfully got orders refunded for people who told me their order number.

    • +1

      Thanks for the update

    • +1

Does this glitch affect previous batches?

      • No. Related to the firmware for the GB version, but will be fixed by release.

    • +4

Thanks, Clear. And thanks for all your comments providing information and help, and keeping us all updated along the way. Sure, the delays are frustrating for all of us to varying degrees, and I get that it's not directly your fault, so well done on taking the heat up front and keeping it all cool for the most part. (Yes, I realise as a representative that's part of your responsibilities.)

Also, thanks to all the OzBargainers who have provided early feedback on their units and taken the time to write comments about alternative ROMs and the like. Saves a lot of time compared to reading through the other forums.

Glad to see someone appreciating the work I do. I don't actually have any obligation to help anyone here and I receive no financial benefit from Geekbuying to do so, but I do because I've had my fair share of trouble with china-sites and I don't want anyone to have the same experience.

        • +3

I'm really thankful that you even bother spending time responding and giving us updates on what's happening when you don't have to, if this was another chinese site we'd purchased from, 90% of the time we'd be dealing with automated copy+paste email responses and kept in the dark, so I'm glad I have some idea of what's happening to my order and hopefully it'll be shipped soon, keep up the good work man.

        • @Gazette: How about this for a copy+paste response that I received today:

          Dear sir,
This is the customer service of geekbuying.
Thanks for your email ,sorry for the delay ,The factory did not support the phone to us in time ,we also negotiated with their manager few days again ,and they promise us that they will give us "R 68 " in stock in these days
please do not worry. Once it's in stock, we will ship it to you as soon as possible.
          We apologize for the inconvenience.
If you have any question, please feel free to contact us.
          Best regards,
          Carrie

[@Clear] care to decipher this for me? A date would be nice

        • @benmuller: Tronsmart did not provide them with the units on the day they said they would. The 22nd is when they're getting them.

  • If mine which was ordered on 14/7 is not shipped by 22nd I will lodge a paypal dispute. I wont waste my time trying to contact them.

At least if we all do this they will suffer a net loss. This is best way to handle this.

    • Would be interesting to see how a dispute would go on a preorder…. besides I can get you a refund within 48 hours rather than waiting for a dispute to end, but that's up to you ;)

  • Just wondering all these people asking for refunds if your in line to get the Tronsmart Orion R68 Meta Android 5.1 gigabit version for the $59 (I think it went for that much it's been so long now) and from Melbourne area I would be interested in purchasing it off you because "Clear"indicted this sale would be back up and running but didn't know when, the insinuation was soon, but I haven't heard anything since this sale ended prematurely so I think I'll have better luck from someone on-selling the item. So just Pm me :)

    • I was told soon by one of their reps. It's probably not going to happen now.

  • +5

Tronsmart has released a new firmware update, rooted and with Netflix working.
    http://www.tronsmart.com/?p=3521

    • +2

      Thanks, Netflix all good now.

    • Great news!
Just need NBA app to work now!

  • What's the latest on this then?

@Clear : "Tronsmart decided to delay the order due to finding a glitch during quality control. Geekbuying is then going to get the pieces by the 22nd and will have all orders shipped by the next weekend."

HK ships on Saturdays I thought so why aren't we shipping out today?
And why would it take GB a week to ship out the products? Surely Tronsmart have delivered them with all the firmware and everything else on them… ?

    • +1

The stock arrives in the China warehouse on the 22nd sometime in the morning or afternoon. The stock has to be unpacked and each box has to be labelled and scanned into the system. Orders then need to be processed, packaged and shipped out to the customers. Considering the amount of work involved, the number of staff and at what time the the stock arrived, it's near impossible to ship it same day.

      • My Order #3401603 is still not shipped and hopefully since today is 23rd and a Sunday, everything should be shipped out by 24th Monday. I had emailed multiple times to Geekbuying Support/GB FB Team and still they cant confirm that I will receive the latest batch Android 5.1 and 1000M Gigabit LAN version. All I received in reply is that I might still receive 100M LAN version whereas you are confirming here that all the new batch for Tronsmart Orion R68 Meta will be with 1000M Gigabit LAN. Can you please check and confirm on this.

I am happy to get it even by mid-Sep on my hands with the latest firmware and all bugs fixed but just want to make sure I get the 1000M Gigabit version.

        • I made a post above saying that stock arrives on the 22nd and all orders should be shipped out by next weekend, which would be the 29th and 30th of this month, but it's still very possible that you may get a shipping notification on Monday.

These 1000pcs are definitely GB LAN and the only way you're going to get 100M is if someone has cancelled recently, but it's unlikely.

  • +1

I received arrived on Thursday. Small 22MB OTA update after start up and Netflix working without any issues.

    • OTA also includes root as I'm able to change the nav buttons.

      • What app do you use to change the nav buttons?

        • SoftKeyZ, but it's a paid app. I got it years ago and doesn't seem to do the other buttons, but I know the Xposed Framework has a plugin for it.

  • +1

my order still has not moved, ordered on the 14th, almost 6 weeks later… nothing.

    • Same… still not shipped.. will give few more days…

    • Worth reading my comments as I provide constant updates. They're all expected to be shipped out by this weekend.

      • Thanks, received a shipping notification last night. Looking forward to receiving it!

        • +1

Awesome. After the latest OTA update it's definitely a lot better.

  • Does anyone know if the R68 will be able to support HDMI CEC with a firmware update?

  • Order #3399991, "Dora" from geekbuying promised 48 hours to refund.

The 48 hours promise was made on 20 august. No refunds until now, when I asked they told me to wait for another week. Thought you guys should know, not easy to get a refund out of these people. I'm not even sure if i can get my money back.

    • I can get it all sorted pretty easily if customer service decide to be difficult.

      • thanks Clear. If you can help, I'd appreciate that, cheers.

        • I'll pass it on. I probably won't get a response until tomorrow night. Depends on how busy the marketing team are.

        • @Clear:

Thanks Clear, they are still stalling us by the sounds of it :)

        • @p10n33r: I told my contact. Did you get another response this evening?

        • @Clear: yep just now, i was asked to wait another 24 hours before the refund kicks in.

I guess we'll see how it goes tomorrow :)

          Thanks!

  • Good news, I got a shipping notification. Though the DHL tracking number is not coming up with anything.

    • Ditto.

Though the DHL tracking number is not coming up with anything.

This usually means that the parcel is awaiting collection by the courier

      • Yep this ^

      • Did you guys pay extra for DHL? Mine has shipped but with Singapore Post.

        • Yeah, standard shipping is free, but DHL/TNT/EMS cost extra.

        • I went with free standard shipping, and it is being shipped with Singapore Post. "Estimated Delivery Time 15-30 business days".

      • Cool tracking info working now

  • Me too. Fingers crossed this is the home stretch!

  • Mine is also finally shipped..!

    • Yay, me too, better be gigabit after all that waiting

  • I got another email saying My Order is still quite far away from the Queue and would only be fulfilled in the next stock which arrives in warehouse by this weekend. So another week of delay and guess what they will not even upgrade your shipping after so much delay. Unfortunately for these companies with shoe string margins they operate on, Customer Service is not their USP, low prices and deals are, but as an exception if they make a small loss once to make a reputation, it goes a long way, they need to understand that.

    • What's your order number? The stock is definitely in the warehouse today and units have been shipping out all week.

      • order#3401603
This is the reply I got from GB After Sales :

        Hi dear ,

        You are very welcome ,
we get the news that the next batch is 1000M , but there are too many orders line before your order ,
we had to reserved for them first , and we need to wait for another batch.hope you can understand that ,
the next batchwill be in stock within two days .once the item is in stock , we will ship it out ASAP,
please wait for it patiently ,
        Best regards
        Simon: )

It will be great if they can get my order shipped with the latest 1000M batch on or before Friday and have a working tracking.

        • +1

Alright, I'll ask them about it. Tracking always works, even with free shipping, but don't expect that to be any good once it leaves China.

        • @Clear: Thx a ton, hopefully I have the unit with me before mid-Sep

  • Got my 2 units today… will see how i go.

  • Order Number: #3399808 placed on 14 July … it's now the 27 August. Still sitting in "Payment Confirmed (Processing)" status.

Renegade - given that my order still hasn't been fulfilled, I'm guessing a 2017 arrival date for yours … although I hope yours gets sent this week.

It's good to see that some are actually getting the two units they ordered and have waited way too long for.
